    Just a note to add with the 4l60e and 700r4 the parts that make the 4l65e so good some of these parts can be interchange into a 700r4 and 4L60E the 5 pinion sun shell and others parts, be warned only use gm parts the aftermarket not so good warned by a fulltime trans guy
    Another note there where many upgrades with the early 700R4 but look at transmission cases if hunting for a transmission there's different cases a 4 wheel drive case which has a "K" on the front right i believe (maybe left side) of the bell housing these I can't confirm but understand to be a thicker case
    The k case will have 6 bolt holes 3 on each side to bolt up a aluminum cover on the bottom and bolts threads with will be used
    Which the aluminum cover has braces bolted to on some models.
    The other cases will have a sheet metal cover and sheet metal type bolts to hold the cover on ,
    Great info enjoy what your doing helping others getting out there and going wheeling 👍

    4L65e was the trans in an H2 Hummer - about 8000 lbs - there is also a 4L70e as well that is a bit stronger as well. About the 4L80e - it takes about 25% more power, which translates to about 25 more hp - that hurts fuel economy. About the 4L6x and 4L7x transmissions - the internals are interchangeable. You can put the higher-count planetary in a 4L60e..... about the adapter, the spline count on a 4l60e and 4l80e is different and the bolt pattern is different as well.

    I have an 87 Chevy square body pickup (2wd). Hope to be doing an ls swap in the near future. Truck has a 350 with a 700R4, Would I need any spacing plates for the motor mounts, heard of people putting a 1 inch setback plate on, but that specific application was with a 4L80, were as I have a 4L60. Read somewhere about the 4L80 being a longer trans, so I'm a bit confused as to what I will need to make everything line up with my stock driveshaft.

    Boss, I have a 4L60E from a 02’ Suburban. Never had an issue with it. Looking to refresh the transmission and not a full rebuild. Looking to make it a little stroking and mostly to prolong its life. Any suggestions?

    I have an 1985 K5 Blazer with an 700R4. I have a 5.3l LM7 with the 4l60e 4x4 out of a 2005 Tahoe. I have a few questions. Will the 4l60e bolt up to the transfer case from the 700R4? Secondly, I have little knowledge with fuel supply, do they have fuel system already made for these types of builds that I can buy. Thank you!

    I just ran across your video. Awesome job on the swap! I am in the middle of LS (LM7) swap; mine is a bit different application - Jeep TJ. However, I am using some of the same components as you. Namely, the NP241C transfer case (TC). I have a question about its wiring, if you don't mind. The TC has two sensors on it - VSS and 4WD shift indicator.
    Forgive me if you addressed this in a later video.
    I have to re-wire both of them because my harness did not come with the plugs to fit the TC sensors. For the VSS: I need to figure out which PCM wires (GRN/BLK and PPL/WHT) go to which side of the sensor. If your VSS is like mine, the plug can only go in one way because there is a tab between the two pins in the sensor referencing the correct placement. If you can remember or can tell, with that tab facing upwards, which pin (left or right) is for GRN/BLK and which one is PPL/WHT?
    For the 4WD shift indicator switch, my TC came with a three-pin sensor (P/N GM 15693423 or Dorman 600-502). Did yours come with the same? If so, how did you wire it into the wiring harness? I don't know where each of the three wires should terminate. Or, did you change it out for a two-pin? If so, where did you terminate each of the wires? My main focus is connecting it to the 4WD indicator light on the dash. Thanks.

    Hey Merrick, was the transmission you got originally set up for awd? If so how did you convert it to 4x4, just go with a manual shift np241? About to buy an 04 Escalade engine and transmission and just wanted to make sure 4x4 was a possible swap with the 4l65e.

    Any experience with the older 4L80's? Kinda discovered after the fact, that it's the older style from the mid to late 90s. Planned on mating it to and 02 Lq4 that I picked up, but not sure about how to control it now. On the fence about fuel injection vs carb, but maybe the only way is to use the computer? It's going in a 71 k5 blazer.

      I am not too familiar apart to say they are a lot heavier and larger with more parasitic loss vs a 4l65. That said they are super strong. I have not had any issues with my 4l65 at all

      @@MerricksGarage That's what I've heard too. Somewhere up to 25%? This is never going to be a mud truck, and honestly the engine will never break 450tq, so maybe I just need to let the 80 go? Pretty sure I can still run my np205 with an adapter for that tranny as well, right? I missed what you were running for a t-case.

    • @MerricksGarage
      @MerricksGarage  5 лет назад

      205 to 4l65 is expensive. That’s why I went with a 241. Get a magnum box from ORD and you can run a 205

    Is there 2 types of 241 transfer cases? If so, which 241 did you use to mate up to the 4l65e? I came across a 700r4 with a 241c TC which I planned on mating to a 5.3L for 78' K10. I have a friend who recently rolled his 2003 escalade, if I'm not mistaken, it came with a LQ4 motor and a 4l65e tranny. He wants 3 grand for the whole truck, as the engine was a crate motor replacement with only 8,000 miles on it. Thanks for any input you or anyone has.

      plans have changed, I have a 1995 Tahoe that I plan on swapping in the 6.0. The type of Escalade isn't the esv and I'm not to keen on the Cadillacs. My question is do you have any experience in swapping a 350 TBI for a 6.0 LS? If anybody has any info I will greatly appreciate it. Thanks and keep the videos coming

    what engine mounts

  • @christopherjames1918
    @christopherjames1918 7 лет назад

    Alrighty, so my 700R4 kicked the bucket and I'm going this weekend to pick up an LQ9, 4l65e wiring harness, and ECM. Going to reuse my 208 transfer since I just rebuilt it last month. Got some DIY4X motor mounts, the sexy looking roll cage, and debating on ordering the diy4x dash as well.
    But anyways what pump did you install on your build?
    did you go internal pump, or external?
    what PSI?
    I looked at the measurements for the trans bracket placement and it will fit perfect where it is at.
    driveshaft will carry over as well with the only issue being the need to upgrade to something stronger. which I have a set of driveshafts from a past build that is thicker and can handle more Tq.
    Lastly, I know you mentioned upgrading to 3/4 ton axles, currently my 87 blazer has dana 44's with a 4.11 gear set front and rear. you think that will suffice the Tq from the LS setup, or should I buy a set of dana 60's and do so different gearing? currently, Im running 37" tires.
    also great job with the videos was a big help to finally get me convinced to do the swap.

    • @christopherjames1918
      @christopherjames1918 7 лет назад

      Sweet now I know the psi I need to run and what to get. Some questions I thought about last night. First what kind and where did you get you headers? Did you have any issues hooking up the wiring and computer. I know the harness is direct plug in but we're there any major issues you came across? Is there any reason for me to keep the stock ecm or can I pull all the wires and computer out with the stock block? Then lastly when considering the ac how did you go about hooking all that up, did you keep the stock condenser? Or did you go with something from a newer truck?

    • @christopherjames1918
      @christopherjames1918 7 лет назад

      James Merrick so got the old dash, and all the wires I don't need out from the cab. Rewired my cab lights, stereo, and got all the wires for my gauges setup and ready to install when my diy4x dash comes in. Getting to 5.7 out of the truck next weekend and I'm gonna rebuild my 208 transfer while I wait for my LS mounts to come in. Also ordered a k&n intake, pulled a radiator and electric fan from a 2006 Silverado 2500, and got my motor. The trans will be in here in a few weeks went with a 4l65e with hd kit, the wiring harness and computer I sent off to lsx4u to get cut and turned into a stand alone and have the computer reprogrammed. The fuel filter and pump will be in Tuesday. Lastly the headers we on back order so still waiting on an eta for them. It's starting to get there just waiting for everything to come in.

  • @1976chevyboy
    @1976chevyboy 6 лет назад

    The most common you’ll see unless under a weird truck like an 8.1 or 1500hd is a 60 or 80. 80 blows any of them out of the water, 60s are trash 60k mile transmissions. In my time of 15 years I have replaced @ 15-20 60s and maybe 1 80. Honestly switching the input gear in a 205 and getting an adapter from ord or advance adapters is not that expensive for the strongest stock case. The 80 is a fuel hog, but if you’re doing a swap for power and torque you can’t expect good mpg that’s insanity.
