I'm surprised anyone would be upset at Charlie for making good money. His RUclips channel has 9 million+ subs and he has around 20k twitch subs. Anyone with a brain could figure out that translates to money.
the amount of money charlie makes doesn't surprise me at all, he has been around for like fifteen years on youtube, he was one of the first streamers on twitch, and he was around when the roman empire crucified criminals, so he deserves his money lol
Don't forget he presumably resurected someone back from the dead, and multiplied bread and dried fish to feed the people. All in all, he absolutely deserve the money he earned.
Being a retired soldier, I will say the highly paid entertainer has got me through a lot of hard times. I never got paid what these people got paid, but that entertainment helped me stay connected to the out side normal world.
The sad part is, he’s right. There are People who get pissy at their friends or family who do better than them whether it be financially or overall better in life. It sucks when people compare each other like this and it’s not a healthy view to have, they treat life like an actual contest and it’s sad. It’s like they try and punish you for doing a little better than them in one aspect or another
It’s because these people don’t focus on their own passion or a purpose to have. They are empty people, broken even. Dr.K (therapist streamer) has talked about how broken viewers are, and they come to Twitch to watch other broken people. Broken people with broken dreams and broken lives will ALWAYS get jealous of other people with higher success. It’s their own insecurities of not being successful, or not having things figured out, of not being great at something. They are MEDIOCRE.
it's envy over people who managed to make bank by doing things they enjoy, something borderline unachievable for 99% of the human race i can perfectly understand where it comes from but it's still not acceptable
The amount of people that were mad on Twitter about the lack of diversity in that list of top earners was hilarious. As if there's a regulatory body that governs what ethnic group of people make the most on twitch.
This is what I love about Charlie. Everything is a really well-constructed, reasonable point. No arguing, no emotional ranting, just reason. So refreshing
The real issue is these people suck at math word problems, they were told the answer without showing their work, "If Charlie has 1,000,000 friends and each friend gave 1$ how much would Charlie have?" "I dunno 1$ isn't that much... like 50$?" "No he would have 1 million dollars" "WHAT THAT IS TOO MUCH DOLLARS!"
i just like how humble charlie is despite clearly earning a lot of money its really easy to let it get to your head but he just keeps doing what hes always done
@@imperialbagel Not since he found out that most the charities he donated to were corrupt and pocketed the majority of it. I know he still puts money into places it's needed, but I forget what form it takes. If you search it youll probably find the video that explains better. He said he takes 50% at the least iirc
People joke about Charlie being homeless so much that they actually think he is homeless. What next? Are people gonna be disappointed that he isn't actually Jesus?
The fact people hadn’t realized Charlie was mega rich during his yugio phase is astonishing. Like, you think someone who didn’t have fat stacks could afford that many cards and still eat?
If people really thought firefighters deserved that kind of money, they would donate their money to the firefighters rather than twitch streamers. Might be an interesting experiment to see how much a firefighter who documents his life and experiences could actually manage to get from donations online, but I doubt the kind of person to be a firefighter is the kind of person who would attempt to gain financially from the horrifying experiences in that way.
I work in fire safety and compared to what streamers make, I make absolutely nothing. Makes me want to quit and be a streamer sometimes. But then I remember I'm not nearly funny or attractive enough.
@@TheBlackWaltz when you boiled down Charlie's content its mostly references, his opinions and genitalia related words, of course it helps having a wide sense of humor (that you can make watching a lot of content to develope your own) and there's a lot of options if you are not the mos attractive, I think the most important thing is the determination to do it on regular basis and the hability to endure the full time every day, sometimes I can't stand watching the same thing for more than 2 minutes if I have the option
So true like wtf y'all... his channel LITERALLY shows how much money he has! Yeah it doesn't tell us the exact amount, but ANY of his videos (where he isn't reacting to something) involves so much shit that I'm surprised people still think Charlie is poor.
@@nomoretwitterhandles It should go to show you how fucked society thinks when it comes to money. People are surprised someone is humble with their income and not flaunting it, when in reality most wealthy people don't flaunt their wealth. Only the 1%
That's just from twitch, social blade also has his monthly income from youtube averaged at around $500,000.00 a month. I have it on good authority that social blade is actually pretty accurate... and usually on the higher end. (I know a semi popular youtuber who does youtube full time and asked him about his adsense vs socialblade's estimates). My estimate is using a conservative middle number.
idk if anyone is really paying attention to charlie, it's about people like Hassan who preach things like "eat the rich" and privlege while being a casual millionaire with the money directly coming from his rhetoric. of course to anyone with a brain, it still isn't surprising.
i feel like when a person is putting themselves out as entertainment, it’s marketed occasionally as “i can relate to you.” I’m sure it’s not many streamers’ intentions but it is somewhat how parasocial relationships form
It is almost always marketed as that on platforms like RUclips and especially twitch, because they take advantage of lonely people with time on their hands
That I think is ultimately the cause of some people being upset. People are less bothered by the ridiculous salaries of movie actors for example as there's no way you can feel like you 'know' an actor or can relate/interact with them based a pre-recorded film. Streaming is far personable and people feel like they have an actual connection and can relate to the streamer. It's stupid but I can kind of understand it.
The fact that Charlie still has the patience to consistently address these idiots still baffles me. I would be so fed up to the point of just ignoring them, too much ignorance nowadays
I just don't like the Marxist/socialist types who preach the evils of capitalism while benefiting from the system. I don't care how much Charlie earns. So long as he doesn't talk about taxes and redistribution.
People be saying this like there is this grand instance playing football playsrs, musicians or streamers. Its not like your hard earned money is going to the government and then distributed to streamers, firefighters and football players in disproportionate ways. Its the POEPLE THEMSELVES GIVING THEIR MONEY TO STREAMERS. If you wann help firefighters, donate. Dont complain about people spending their money funding entertainment.
Virtually everyone should be paid more than streamers. But there isn't that much money. Therefore, streamers should be paid less in order to pay the others more.
@@xXscreamingkoalaXx But people are paying them deliberatley. Nobody is paying streamers, there's no instance giving them money. There's ads, okay, there might be a twitch contract which is like a record contract, and then theres the bulk: subs and donations. And those two things are given to streamers by people deliberatley. Its the very people that complain about this, that are the reason why streamers make so much money in the first place
@@the_Googie False. Donators largely aren't complaining. I don't usually justify things by appealing to stupid people being stupid with their money. It doesn't mean the streamer deserves 100x a firefighters wage.
People like to feel like they are making a difference. With their donations, they hope to make that difference. So when they see their 5-100 dollar donation is a drop of rain in a swimmingpool they feel less special. They feel like their decision to donate didn't matter. In some cases people are indeed confused or mad that entertainers make huge sums of money. And much like Charles here said, some people form that 'relationship' with their fav streamer.
@@mikko3 at the end of the day it's ultimately your choice to financially support them beyond watching their content. if you can afford it there's literally no harm. if you cant afford it then dont donate anything. now I'm she there are popular streamers that need to stop acting like they're damn near broke, but still.
@@mikko3 Well hey I don't really know what else to say. Subs and bit donations are a major part of Twitch. I genuinely dont see what the harm is in participating in those things if the streamer you're giving the money to isn't being greedy and trying to guilt trip people. Maybe I'm just missing something
I think it's more like that streaming has become such a extremely enviable career if done correctly, but it's still hard for most people to digest the fact that just chatting, playing videogames etc. in front of a camera is more profitable than any full time job to have ever existed. For me, for instance, it's still pretty hard to unpack.
@@CorelUser it's pretty simple in the end It's like athletes like soccer players. "How do they earn 2m just sitting on the bench?" It's all to do with the sources of income, and it might help you rationalize it. People like streamers and soccer players don't have a boss. They take time out of their day to provide entertainment. Certain individuals like this and pay some money to show support. Some companies like the advertisement these people can bring. So instead of one boss paying 10 employees. It's close to a couple hundred (depending on succes) different sources of income. The reason sponsorships are so lucrative is because a company saves money paying a streamer Vs paying for an ad that might be shown on Amazon, Google, or a webpage to a variety of people. Targeted ads without having to pay for uptime, clicks, marketing saves them thousands. As someone else writes the ads, presents them to a targeted audience of people that trust this person
@@Gio98art no, I understand how it works, I just envy them because they have been able to make the easiest of hobbies that profitable. Of course it needs talent but still
I think a big reason for people feeling betrayed is due to the fact that when people watch a streamer or youtuber for a long amount of time they start to develop this feeling of friendship or camaraderie, and start to think of the streamer/youtuber as their friend or an equal. Yet once they figure out that the streamer is a multi-millionaire or a millionaire, they feel betrayed because they no longer feel equal to the person or like they're friends. It breaks the imaginary bond that they thought they had. I hope this answers some people's questions.
parasocial relationship + sense of relatability, especially when most people aren't earning millions a year its a hard pill to swallow for them that their most relatable internet personalities make that much
I think the ”I could do that” effect is strong when critizing streamers for their earninga, since streamers are the most ”normal” or relatable to the average person. The funny part is that yes, you could do that, but you would quickly find how much dedication and luck it takes to make it big, as it is in other entertainment.
Precisely, I'm fairly certain a good majority of people could do exactly what Charlie does (no offense), but the problem is, it takes extreme luck. For every successful streamer you see, there's hundreds of thousands of streamers who never got past 10 viewers. But thats not his fault he got lucky, by that logic, we should start revoking the prize from people who win the lottery.
@ossobuco I still think luck is only part of it though, since you still have to be an extremely good performer/entertainer to stay relevant. For example a shoutout doesn’t mean that much if you cannot retain the viewers.
It’s different for Hasan Piker though. Dude literally made bank grifting off of 14 year old socialists by pretending to be all _eat the rich_ when he is in fact part of the 1% they hate so much.
@@elluqushchannelz I agree with this. Charlie got shouted out by Ray William Johnson back in the day which brought a lot of traction to his channel, but what made people stay is Charlie's dry humour and the content he made. Like you're lucky if you get hired to work for a big company and have a big salary but what makes you really successful is how you do your job.
To add to this, most people think streaming is as easy as putting up a broadcast software, popping in your favorite game and just doing whatever. The sheer amount of work that goes on behind the scenes is absurd, you have to plan, you have to edit, you have to market yourself, you have to make sure your equipment works, you have to handle the business part of it. So when little Timmy thinks he could do it, he’s dead wrong. Being mad at successful people is so weird. Most of them don’t get handed their success, and when they do, it’s often not lasting at all cause they don’t maintain their success.
Super weird non issue people are freaking out about. Entertainment deserves to be compensated otherwise that specific entertainment isn't guaranteed to exist.
It's such a competitive market and you need to have a certain sense for what is entertaining. It's just how capitalism works. People that are better at doing what they do will just earn more.
Charlie already TOLD us how much he makes in an earlier video about his card “addiction”. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that he’d be rich with the followers he has
Charlie, you’re telling me you aren’t POOR, and SUFFERING, and SAD?? Ugh, I cannot believe you aren’t in a horrible spot right now while giving me basically free entertainment
I cant believe my 5 dollars a month isn't the deciding factor on Charlies ability to continue living every month! I thought I was so important to mister strimir!
I still remember a long time ago when Cr1tikal first announced he was going to monetize his RUclips videos. He basically said he just loves making videos and would rather donate the money to charities, he even went so far as to post proof every month that he was spending the RUclips money on charities. He has always just liked making videos, and he's always been a good guy. Im glad he has made it this far
^ To add to this, I think it was very cool of him to donate everything to charity at first, but I'm actually really glad he changed his mind over time and started keeping some of it (im sure he still donates a shit ton). Now he is able to invest in really cool shit like the God Slap comic as well as Moist Esports, and there's gonna be a lot more to come
Charles: *Spends 1000s $ on sex toys* *Spends 10s of thousands $ on Yu-Gi-Oh cards* *Buys a warehouse* *Creates and funds his own e-sports team* *Bets 50k$ on a silly poker game* Random guy: "I didn't know you had money..."
People really forgot about the entire video Charlie made last year where he pretty much broke down what he makes every month. It was one where I think he was addressing people who were concerned about him spending large amounts of money on cards.
He literally made a video detailing his twitch subscription income just to make the people who were concern-trolling about his "gambling problem" spending tens of thousands of dollars on trading cards would shut up lol. He not only was obviously rich, he wasn't even pretending to hide how rich he is.
The reality is people get angry when successful creators are no longer relatable. Those parasocial relationships are highly effective, and when reality hits they're disappointed. They figure the individual is no longer relatable, and no longer understand the struggle for decent income. That's what causes people to go livid for other peoples success. Edit: Yeah, he said the same thing later in the video. Just got to that part, bingo.
Yup, modern society thinks that rich and poor are different being that live in different worlds. If a guy is rich ofcourse he never see struggles in life and don't relate to me
Wait, did people not realize that Charlie made a lot of money off of these streams? I know everyone is hating on rich people these days, but I think it's important to remember that there's a big difference between selfish corporate overlords exploiting workers for a bonus, and self-employed entertainers who are extremely open about how much they're making and who receive money from completely voluntary donations.
Piggybacking off this original comment, I think we gotta put things in perspective. When we say “rich people” we mean the top 1%. For instance. Donald Trump and Kanye are closer to poverty than Jeff Bezos is by a hundred miles. When people like me say “eat the rich” we don’t mean people who’ve worked for and are currently working for their money. Streamers, Movie stars, Musicians. If your dad is like a Doctor and owns a boat, we’re not talking about him. We’re complaining about the people who own 10 yachts, never take any of them out, and own 6 different summer homes. Mark Zuckerberg was trying to chase the people who lived in Hawaii off their own land because he wanted another fucking summer home. (Real thing by the way, you can look it up.) Jeff Bezos doesn’t work for his money. He sits on his money and watches it grow to exponential amounts. When he was CEO of Amazon, he made a grand total of 3 calls a day and woke up at noon. Now, you can argue that, “he deserves it because he built the company to where it is today!” You’d be absolutely correct! He did build the company yo where it is today! And he worked hard to do that! But he doesn’t do any of that now. He does jack shit and maintains a level of wealth people like you or me will never achieve a hundred lifetimes over. Eat the rich. Fuck the 1%. Remember who your enemies are.
@@noirbe238 you would be shocked how many people fit into the 1% it's not just ultra elite overlords. And why are you sé pressed with what people do with their money? Bezos built his empire he can do as he pleases. Just because he doesn't save away today doesn't take away his privileges that he earned.
I remember when Charlie first started making money on RUclips ads and was giving the money to charities. I always felt like he tried to avoid getting rich as a streamer, but his humility and generosity just made him more likeable and therefore more successful. I even remember him saying in a video awhile back he funds life saving operations for people's pets, and he's gone to small twitch streamers to drop money on them. We don't need to eat him when the revolution comes.
Back when people were freaking out about the card "addiction" Charlie spoke very openly about how much money he was making. How is this a surprise to anyone at this point? Our boi makes bank, it's been known for a long time.
Some for sure. But there is ALSO an element of the socialist/Marxist types being hypocritical within the rules of their own ideology. Who honestly cares what Charlie makes? He ain't being a commie douchebag.
Most people seem to pretend that the streamer is their actual friend so when it's shown that the streamer is well off or comfortable financially it fucks up their fantasy because now the streamer is no longer just like them (as if the streamer ever was)

Honestly, Charlie deserves every cent he makes. That income is voluntary donations. Nobody is forcing those people to give him money. They’re giving it to him because he’s a genuinely awesome content creator and they enjoy his content. He deserves all the money he makes because he works for it. He makes content for us and we watch it.
Same, I mean I’m kinda happy Charlie is filthy rich. It means he won’t stop making videos because he’s starving but only because he doesn’t feel like any more. And for someone whose 9 million subscribed YT account is barely monetized at all, I only have respect to him. I learned a lot from him, and I’m glad he’s getting properly paid for how everything he did
Why kinda happy? He should make you feel really happy since he's a streamer you like lol, i'm proud he's filthy rich because he desevers it for working hard up to it
The polemic part its that they maybe make too damn much money. for a job that definetly doesn´t deserve it, We can understand for example a doctor having a good income, but a twich streamaer?, its not fault of them but it is disgusting how captialism benefits some jobs that definetly don´t deserve THAT amount of money.
I knew that Charlie made a lot more than me just based off the things he buys and how he talks about doing things like giving people $14,000, or something like that, for their dogs to have surgery. I wish I had that money. But I also like how he doesn't rub it in our face all the time. He's very humble and I like that.
We gotta remember this guy started out literally giving 100% of his YT revenue to charities until he realized how many charities were elaborate scams. Obviously since then he's made millions and is well off, but I'm sure paying for other's expensive vet bills is only one of the charitable things he does with his wealth. From everything we know, Charlie is genuinely a good, down to Earth guy. Not many people with his level of success/income maintain that quality.

I think the reason why everyone has a problem with how much streamers make is because people picture streamers as just people who play games on the internet or just sit in front of a camera and talk to people for 8 hours straight and nothing more. They don't see the behind the scenes of a streamer nor do they want to see behind the scenes of a streamer because then they realize how much work it actually takes to be a streamer
One aspect. Other is that a few streamers are of the socialist school of thought and preach the evils of capitalism while partaking and getting rich from that system. It's hypocritical and annoying. I always figured that Charlie had "made it" at some point, so that's nice to know
The only way that seeing the streamer income has impacted me is I no longer wonder if the ones I watch are paycheck to paycheck living. It's good to know the guys you like to watch all the time are doing okay.
Yeah, one of my favorite streamers recently quit his day job of 20+ years to be a full time content creator, that instantly improved the quality of content and he was so happy
Fun fact: Nick Saban makes more then any government official. In fact, he makes significantly more in 1 season then the president of the United States in all 4 years in office.
Nancy Pelosis husband made 10 million dollars off of a single stock exchange he was able to make because of early knowledge about restrictions being passed in congress this year. This a regular thing they do, and the same goes for a majority of other politicians in some manner. Their income is far away from being based on salary.
This is why I laugh when people say Trump became president for the money. He was making, and could have continued making, far more money in the private sector. Like him or not, he definitely didn't do it for money.
Not sure why people are so focused on streamers income when there's a bigger issue at hand with Twitch getting hacked... goes to show where the internets priorities are.
Right??? I’m here like who gives a shit how much they make, they obviously make money! I’m more concerned about the fact that Twitch got hacked in the first place
This entire debacle just proves without any doubt that literally nobody cares about their privacy anymore and hasn’t for a while. When people care more about other people’s income than their own information.

Assuming what people make vs. actually seeing the real life numbers can be a bit of a reality check. In my opinion it just hit home for a lot of people when they see streamers are making their yearly salary in a month, not even including other sources of income and this just leads to people losing their minds and maybe considering why they even donate money in the first place. Possibly. Still I don't understand, it would've been pretty crazy if RUclips revenue would've been leaked because that is much harder for us to estimate. I would be pretty interested to know how much Dream makes with his (incredibly entertaining) monthly videos for example. With twitch it's easy to see as Charlie stated and I've seen plenty of streamers talk about how they're well off already. That doesn't keep me from me wishing them to earn more but I'd rather donate to someone smaller on the platform instead. People finding it unfair is weird anyway, there are not many people on this world like xqc that share more than half of the time they are awake while 50k+ people watch and get entertained at any given time. How is it unfair that they earn millions per year? But anyway, social media makes many people mentally ill so we shouldn't be surprised. EDIT: 2nd sentence *don't understand
nah they were shocked and surprised, and in the negative way. Started talking about sexism, racism, and the "financial gap"...as if twitch isn't a platform solely built for people who CHOSE to FINANACIALLY support who they want to. the stupidity...
Yeah I'm unlikely to donate. Why am I donating to someone who has far more money that me? I can just buy myself a coffee if that's the case. Influencers and entertainers choose to make content, if they make income that's great, but clearly these people aren't hurting for money as much as they act like...
@@jadecoolness101 Do you pay for the music you listen to? Do you pay to go to the movies? I'm pretty sure you do either of those or something comparable. Same concept, you pay people who probably have more money than you because they entertain you.
The reason why streamers are targeted for "not deserving it" is because streaming has a very low barrier of entry. Unlike Hollywood, literally anyone can stream but very few get successful. Most of the hate comes from envy I think.
Correct. When people say "I can't believe he's making that much money on Twitch," they mean "I can't believe I'M not making that much money on Twitch."
I think it makes sense to be envious, a lot of streamers making millions just happened to get lucky. They still work hard and clearly they need to put in a lot of time and effort to keep their fanbase, but a lot of it comes down to getting lucky and blowing up Which makes people envious. (Example: Philza blowing up from the RUclips algorithm, going from average 20 viewers a stream to over 10k and now has made over 1mil in the last year)
"It takes only a little bit of common sense, and a little bit of, just, _thinking_ rationally for a second, to realize..." But therein lies the problem. Such things are rare in this day and age.
People saying that Charlie hasn't done anything of equal value to deserve the pay he gets doesn't realize that the fans are the cause of his success. The fans are there because they find something about him that they like enough to keep them coming back. Same with production value, if the fans are comfortable with the quality of his videos then so is he. They would simply leave if that wasn't the case, which they obviously haven't and more keep joining.
Only OG cr1tikal fans know this but he used to donate 100% of the money he made off his youtube videos, i think he only stopped because he found out that some of the organizations he was donating to turned out to be scams
@@Spiffo0 Still doesn’t change the fact that he earned that money. Yeah I know all streamers do is watch videos and play games usually, but if their personality brings a ton of people to them, and those people give them money, then they earned that money.

@@CorelUser it's pretty simple in the end
It's like athletes like soccer players. "How do they earn 2m just sitting on the bench?"
It's all to do with the sources of income, and it might help you rationalize it.
@BlueRedAndYellow yeah, I guess some people just missed that message.
That's why some RUclipsrs have stans, they ignore that probably
parasocial relationship + sense of relatability, especially when most people aren't earning millions a year its a hard pill to swallow for them that their most relatable internet personalities make that much
Yes true for many people,
Charlie said this on the last minute of this video, but it's true tho

Exactly lmao
(Real thing by the way, you can look it up.)
Jeff Bezos doesn’t work for his money.

@@jadecoolness101 Do you pay for the music you listen to? Do you pay to go to the movies? I'm pretty sure you do either of those or something comparable. Same concept, you pay people who probably have more money than you because they entertain you.
@@coserkaze people said that? Or journalists? Because journalists aren’t people.
The reason why streamers are targeted for "not deserving it" is because streaming has a very low barrier of entry. Unlike Hollywood, literally anyone can stream but very few get successful. Most of the hate comes from envy I think.
Wow. ruclips.net/video/eQaorH2bVCc/видео.html .

Sounds about right
(Example: Philza blowing up from the RUclips algorithm, going from average 20 viewers a stream to over 10k and now has made over 1mil in the last year)
Eh for me it comes from when people don’t deserve it
"It takes only a little bit of common sense, and a little bit of, just, _thinking_ rationally for a second, to realize..."
But therein lies the problem.
People on twitter gets mad because Charlie made more than some people on a regular job lol
He is fucking Jesus he doesn't need to do it
@@dedemgufron3384 he doesn't need money to survive he has exploits the devs need to nerf jesus
Only OG cr1tikal fans know this but he used to donate 100% of the money he made off his youtube videos, i think he only stopped because he found out that some of the organizations he was donating to turned out to be scams
@@Gamer-hl2qc is this in a video? Cuz ngl that sounds interesting to listen to
No matter how much money Charlie makes, he will always be remembered most for his lead acting role in Hunger Games.
They didn't pay him enough for that role, he carried that entire film with such a short appearance. smh
For me it's his Boardwalk Burgers joke, never gets old.
This is outrageous. How dare Charlie make a lot of money for all the hours he puts into streaming and entertaining millions of people.

"for all the hours he puts in watching youtube videos and playing video games" you children are seriously brain damaged.
@@Spiffo0 Still doesn’t change the fact that he earned that money. Yeah I know all streamers do is watch videos and play games usually, but if their personality brings a ton of people to them, and those people give them money, then they earned that money. That’s how jobs in the entertainment industry work. If a lot of people like watching you, you’ll get money for it.
@@Spiffo0 he is bad as any other drama tuber, and to think people hated h3 and keemstar when they were drama queens whispering behind backs like children in recess
