- The Yoga Journal podcast is a free, online yoga class by Kathryn Budig that provides intelligent, accessible, and effective yoga videos for students of all levels. In these yoga videos, Kathryn Budig provides students with knowledgeable instructions, playful sequences, and the detailed demonstrations of her student and model Rowena King. Each episode features different poses and themes in order to provide you with a wide-range of practices to keep your routine fun and challenging.
This Arm Balance sequence is all about play. The sequence will teach you how to use your back and stomach to lift up away from the ground and keep your weight off your arms. Kathryn has you practice this principle with poses including crow pose, baby crow and side crow. Overall, this practice is a great lesson in how to be okay with falling down and letting your go of your ego.

Your instructions are very clear every step of the way. The demonstrator does it gracefully too. Thank You
I love the way you teach . . . I like knowing which muscles are effected and all of the details you tell us. Your student is a real contribution to this instruction. Thank you both.
I really enjoyed how before each arm balance we did a more stable move that had a similar structure. Like doing twisted chair before twisted crow. It really helped me see the connection between postures I already knew very well and the new arm balancing postures. Thank you.
This was amazing! I had so much fun. It helped my mind really learn what arm balancing was. It's funny how you think something works, and then seeing how it actually works. Thank you so much! I loved this, and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more.
This is what I've been waiting for. LOVE Kathryn Budig.
Very nice lesson. This is the first time I've seen this format, with one person explaining and another doing. This made it especially enriching to watch. Thank you.
I need you lord I need you
Fantastic - thank you for including routines to warm up to prepare for the arm balances - a lot of videos just show the arm balance (or other move) and I'm still a beginner, I'd like to have a quick routine to warm up with, THEN jump in! Thank you thank you!
this is an amazing video. great (and very steady) work by the model. kathryn is awesome in leading and teaching.
Excellent instructions and beautiful demonstration!!
thank you so much for this video! I have always fallen on my face when attempting side crow, and last week, almost by accident, I managed to fly it on the left side!! felt confident and tried it on the right, and fell on my face again :-P been working all week to match my right side to my left and couldn't manage, but practiced with this video today and flew side crow on my right as well as the left!!! thank you so much for helping me progress
Make sure you're looking forward always. I used to fall on my face when I was looking down :)
Beautiful. The girl who is doing is so strong. My god. May be one day I could do the way she is doing. Beautiful and clear instructions. Really enjoyed. Thx for sharing this.
I liked how you explain introductory poses. For instance, I can't do side crow yet. I find side chair to be rather miserable. Now I see that I need to step back and keep working on the other poses first and find my way to the balances later.
Perfect timing; was not too fast or too slow. This was very informative.
that side lift is hard! but I could do the front lift! I was surprised I could do it! great relaxing video!
Finally, something which helps me understand how to do side crow
great video! perfectly targeted warmup, great poses!
Thank you very much for the valuable tips!
After one year and half of trying Bakasana...now I did it! for 10sec!!! very happy 😀😍😘
Beautiful lesson. Thanks for sharing.

Namaste's! Thank you, astounding! I can do any of the arm balances yet but I'm going to keep trying
Super helpful and informative. Thank you!
Thank you for this class, i love your enthusiasm and the way you take her through the sequence. lesson learned... don't jump into side crow just cause it looks good :p
This ABSOLUTE CLASSIC ❤❤❤

when I did the side lift, I thought my arm was going to break! # have to build more muscle!
Great vid. Thank you and pranam :)
Where can I purchase CD's of these videos?
Namaste Kathryn Budig. thank you for helping me to create space. My name.is Lorrissae. be well
i did the 14:13 and my hands started to hart
why and what to do?
Start working on increasing both mobility in the wrists and strength in the forearm, upper arm and shoulder girdle as well as core. The crow works best when we can pull our torso up as opposed to letting it fall heavily onto the wrists and hands so much.
Why are people so positive that they know what is going to injure this woman? Clearly they are both experienced. Let them listen to their own bodies, and you listen to yours.
How long will it take to STOP collapsing onto my HEAD!!!
thats really nice ...
malasana - excrement pose. where did garland come from? anyone know?
Nine years later I reckon you know why Malasana pose is so called, but for the benefit of new students: A necklace containing 108 beads used for chanting mantras is a mala, and the arm position in the pose resembles a necklace or Garland.
See how compressed the models spine looks in down dog, uttanasana, the crow poses. With all of her spinous processes protruding out, it was scarey to look at.
Are you aware how much the sacral ligaments are being over-stretched? Marichyasana was hard to watch because her lumbar spine was completely flat as she twisted. Ouch ! The lumbar spine should always be in its natural curve when we twist the spine and this practice did not honor the natural design of our spine. try yogalign
That was hard ... couldn't even do it.
Feels like the flesh of the back of my arm is getting ripped of by the weight of the lower body. Must not be doing it right :(
Good video. although some more details would have been nice. eg How not to do it. What muscles are supposed to be used and which aren't, etc.
Waiting for that face-plant to come. I've put a pillow at a strategic position just in case.
Better a pillow than a hard floor.
Om music for yoga
nice ?:" i like that work?
1:07 looks so wrong.
All this shit for those dumb arm balances!
What a waste of time!
Btw someone is enjoying her poses a bit to much.
