I watch an anime to have fun, to cry, to relate, to experience the story and emotions the anime gives, to remember the times i watched amazing shows, to enjoy the anime while i still can, To brighten up myself when i feel empty. Anime is such a beautiful thing, the bad ones the good ones, each one has its own story, its own fun. Animes gives us memories, experiences, emotions. I appreciate anime because to put it shortly, its changed me, the way i see things, the way i feel things. And i hope you all feel the same way, its not just about the story, its not just about fun, though those are important things in itself. But i think the most important thing about anime is the memories and experiences we made

That's why I avoid ranking stuff. If I enjoyed it, it's good. I don't want to look the different way because someone I don't care about felt differently.
what is fun, and what is good, is not necessarily the same thing. i can enjoy the greasiest of fast food anime, and be bored of top quality 5 star food anime.
For me, some shows I definitely watch to feel something or experience a good story.
And others have nothing going on except pure "fun".

In general? I guess I watch anime to get away from my own wacky shenanigans to watch someone else suffer from wacky shenanigans. Slice of life for example is a genre I enjoy watching because it helps me relax and let out steam after a long day.
Also, what do you mean, Bofuri is perfectly balanced, why shouldn't someone be able to become completely invincible
Completely understand the sol anime part, it's just a really soothing experience.
Also you're right yup invincibility is absolutely fair in games of course. God imagine being able to do that in some mmo game haha
I started to seriously reconsider how I justify the shows I watch to other people after watching SAOA: Gun Gale Online - the spinoff with the small, speedy pink girl. I literally jumped on board watching that anime because the author of that spinoff is the author of Kino's Journey, and you can see all of his hallmarks in GGO, especially his goofy side. As such, the show is pure entertainment. It knows it is attached to the SAO franchise and makes fun of that, but also owns it. The action scenes are hype, and the downtime is littered with lighthearted humor that keeps the story moving and away from a serious tone. But you can't quite communicate that to people who want to know why you're watching "trash".
Nowadays I still wonder if there's ever going to be a handy phrase just as accepted as "the worldbuilding is great" or "the story is masterful" to describe these kinds of shows. I think it's the reason why some people instead call it "good trash" or words to that effect, which is a bit backhanded to be honest. For me, I emphasize it's brain-off entertainment. It's the show you put on when you don't want to feel obligated to pay attention and get invested if you don't want to.

Basically why I mostly watch "Trash" anime/manga. I've read many many genre of manga in the past and realize that I prefer not stressing myself out while doing so, which usually means story with less stake and less emotional drama.
I get it, it's just easier to pick up and watch/read, less pressure and stress
This was the reason CSM was so badly received by a good part of the manga readers: it's a work that delivered both a serious history and a fun experience, but the later was very nerfed in the anime. The people who only cared about the first loved it, but all the others got frustrated.
Guess the reason that I really watch anime is for the music, if not that it'd be because someone said it was good.
Music is definitely an important factor, can change the whole feel of a scene
A story revolves around characters, world, progression, and execution, fun is its amplifier.
I think that's why I loved Tondemo skill, even though the story is slow and almost non-existent. It has two of my fav things, food and wholesome character interactions + silly comedy. It just gives me that warm fuzzy feeling and let's me relax. (^ ^)

I watch Buddy Daddies, My Life As Inukai sans Dog and Mou Ippon because they're fun. But for wildly different reasons.
God I don't know if I should be ashamed that the one show I caught up to the manga is inukai san out of pure curiousity

Well... to be fair, good writing and directing also applies to fun, bad writing and/or bad direction can degrade the fun of a story. For example the horrible writing of SAO war of underworld made that season infuriating to watch, even though I enjoyed most of the previous seasons, bad writing is why I'm resentfull of Golden time and Nisekoi. Another example is Romantic killer, where the akward direction drained out the fun from many of its jokes.
I'd say deep or complicated stories are fun too in their own way and that's why I have shows as different as Bloom into you, Ms. vampire who lives in my neighborhood, Ascendance of a bookworm, Saga of Tanya the evil, Hyouka, Interviews with monster girls, The scum's wish, Oregairu, Re:zero, Tanaka-kun is always listless, Konobi, Wotakoi or Maidens of the savage season at the very top of MY anime list.
