What Is "Oshi" Culture in Japan?

- "Oshi" Culture has always been something I found super interesting about Japan, even before the vtuber boom. With vtubers and now Oshi no Ko, many have gotten to see it first hand, but the "Oshi" culture you might think you're familiar with is a bit different in Japan. For the record, Chisato is still my oshi. And yes I made this video because I realized fanboy over my oshi too much.

It's crazy how Japan can produce an anime clearly aware of how toxic idol culture is while simultaneously making the industry a national icon.
Pretty ironic in that sense, isn't it?
the sentence „more love then parents have to their firstborn“ is a sad but true statement xD
My Kami-Oshi is Aqua xD
but yeah the dedication fans have is insane sometimes
All i have is Youtoube membership and birthday merch ^^
Aqua's singing is so cute, I love it.
Another certified banger of a video. I will proceed to use s̶t̶a̶n̶ oshi when referring to waifus
The man's learning the japanese way
Ngl Simping for irl Idols feels weird to me, Simping for 2d women feels good cuz you still have the seperation of Fiction and reality that no matter what you do you can never touch, kiss, hug,f*ck that girl.
This is why I love Hololive Idol Culture since I can worship them at a safe distance while keeping my sanity.
I get what you mean cause I think I'm also in a similar boat. I like the distinct difference in everything between a fictional and real person. It's fictional for a reason.
@@redjoker Well the downside is that Objectifying them is more easy since you fap to Thier models not themselves and there ain't no sense of Guilt either since they fiction, It sounds Crazy and Sick but trust me I'd rather feel like this than end up in Jail lol
it's nice to womanize an object instead of objetualize a woman (those words don't exist but I don't know how to write it properly)
And then forbidden knowledge is a thing
Agreed as a Bi person. I feel strange fantasizing about a real person. I prefer mutual respect in that category. But, Fictional characters are well, fictional. It’s easier. But maybe I’m the weirdo here. I’d still be hesitant with the fictional character, too 😭
When I was watching lycoris recoil I thought I was watching the most popular anime of all time, but apparently I was way off (which isn't so bad I guess)
Similarly, when I was watching this video I didn't expect it to have only 390 views. Man talk about underrated...
Thanks, glad you enjoyed!
RedJoker is my Oshi! Well right after Chisato at least.
I thank you, but a mere mortal such as myself does not deserve to be compared to Chisato
Thank you for that last part, I hate that word too
When I was in middle school some of my female classmates obsessively talked about their favorite One Direction member. They didn’t carry merch of them, but consider that my first exposure to oshi culture. Now 10 years later I’ve got idol merch of my own. Funny how things work out
When you put it that way, i guess even Western media has their own version of oshi culture
Oshi means bias in kpop group.
7:05 it's beautiful 💀 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣!
My oshi/bias/favorite idol/celebrity crush will always and forever will be Jimin. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
My Oshi is goomba😎
It’s kinda like having a bias in Kpop but going to the extreme 🤔
How dare you show a Bloom into you cover while screaming the word yuri and not make a video essay about it yet?! 😤
One day I promise, that's a big video
@@redjoker I'll wait until the day I die! 🫡
😆
Liyuu stan here
Cultured
off topic: video about „Yuri is my job“?
Sorry, currently not really interested in the anime
daaamn
Honestly Idolish7 make something similar before and better and is a anime of males idols.
It's actually funny to watch howthis culture growing and also is very good for business for the ones who creating this thing. On the other side it's very creepy in my point of view basically because you are spending all your time and money on that 'idol'. Personally I just find this as a very interesting phenomenon, how people may be controlled by a few people, who are forming this shit. But I don't want to be a person like this, for me it's very cringy and very odd like stans (no offense).
Yeah, I have some waifus and best boys too but I'm not so obsessed with it
I buy a lot of merch but yeah, I get what you mean. It can be dangerous to get way too emotionally attached to someone you don't even actually know.
What's the difference to a stalker?
I guess the stalker goes straigth to the "source"
