  • Perhaps the HYPEST Bocchi song, I will never get over that Bocchi guitar solo. Yet, the lyrics are incredibly deep. What is Master Ryo cooking

this is a really amazing analysis! i always felt it was from ryo's pov, especially with the mv being centered around her. that and the message of the song made me go "oh yeah this is ryo's song". but i had never actually looked at the lyrics in depth. this song is what made me instantly fall in love with the show. ever since i watched it back in october i've spent countless hours trying to get down the bass line and bocchis solo. i love how you said the band the song is talking about could be ryo's old band. that would actually be genius, and fit the song considering underneath her aloof exterior, ryo is actually a very passionate person.

@@redjoker literally! I wanna add on to something I always thought of when listening to this song, though this is more of a musical analysis and how it ties into your lyrical analysis. So the bassline is pretty crazy. It's very fast, moves all over the fretboard, and never slows down. It's pretty intense all things considered. I saw someone say in the comments under a video that was comparing ep8's live performance to bocchi and kikuri's street performance, that the basslines fit different circumstances. The original bassline is aggressive and passionate, and when you listen to the song it almost sounds like its trying to push through the rest of the instruments and do its own thing. That's what Ryo does, she does her own thing. i like to imagine that when bocchi gave her the lyrics for this song it hit her so hard that she decided she would pour her heart out into the bassline. tho i do agree that they keep these songs kinda vague on purpose so for the anime i ignore how canonically bocchi rights all their songs lol.
Now as for kikuri's bassline, when she's playing she is supporting bocchi's playing. even bocchi says this in that episode, that kikuri is giving her a solid foundation to go off of and shine. So when you started talking about how the song could be from bocchi's perspective with the line about only wanting to hear the sounds she makes, it immediately made me think of that. Bocchi wants to show the world what she can do, and she'll overcome her fears to do so. her impromptu solo also supports that line. And the guitar part of this song is tricky in its own right, considering how fast it is, the muting, the 16th notes, and the bends in the chorus (those took me ages to get down). those bends also sound like screaming, for lack of a better word. bocchi is using her guitar to scream out what she feels and to push through the music (like ryo with her bassline) to hear the sound only she is making.
so yeah, this song is amazing. not only are the lyrics so well written but the music as well. they tie in together perfectly. god this video is making me gush over the song all over again. your analysis is making me realize that maybe I like it so much not just cause of how it was introduced in the show and the instrumental parts, but that the lyrics are just so... raw. and i feel that. ryo is my favorite character and i relate to her so much (and bocchi cause we both socially anxious af lmao), so actually closely looking at the lyrics is making the song hit more than it already did. i agree, this is a song between bocchi and ryo's connection. its not super obvious like constellation, but that fits them because they have that telepathic loner connection thing going lol.

4:20 remaining in your methaphor couldn't the fact that the train is coming soon mean that there is no need to change their style since if they stay on track, no need to push forward, the train to success is coming soon and if they instead push forward hoping to get a shortcut they will miss the train?
The fact that later she is the only one on board would fit the fact that her old band moved forward and she alone waited for the train that came soon after (kessoku band)

For me, bocchi song lyrics are the sum of bocchi's own experience mixed with what she understands/wants to write for a member of kessoku. That's why the first song she writes about only in her own perspective, then she goes on to writing about Ryo after getting to know her previous band experience in ep4, and after this, write the two culture festival songs, one to kita and one to nijika about the time they had and will have together.

      Thanks, glad you enjoyed!
As for the lyrics, I basically just googled a few sites, took what I thought sounded correct and translated the parts I thought were meh with my own japanese ability, so here are the lyrics if you wanted them:
That band's song, sound to me
      like shrilling, ringing laughter
That band's song, sound to me
like the piercing sounds of a railway crossing
      Don't push me forward
      The train’s already coming soon.
I close my eyes, a light shines on darkness
I cover my ears, a heartbeat surely cuts through
Within my chest, my heart sways my body
I don't want to hear anything else,
nothing but the sounds I'm making
Looking for a place I belonged in the dissonance
I was saved by a sad song but,
That band's song, is a cast to someone.
It seems like I’m the (only one) who’s always wrong
I close my eyes, a light shines on darkness
I cover my ears, a heartbeat surely cuts through
Within my chest, my heart sways my body
I don't want to hear anything else,
nothing but the sounds I'm making
      I don't need it
      Don't push me forward
Don't touch my heart so lightly
      The departure bells rings
      I'm the only passenger
I clap my hands, the sounds, for me alone
I stomp my feet, until footprints are left behind
I open my eyes, the title of a loner
I accept it, the impulse of solitude
Now in my chest, the ascertaining sounds of my heart
I don't want to hear anything else,
nothing but the sounds I'm making

When I first listened to this song, I assumed it was about Bocchi's feelings and how she's always kind of scared to take the first steps she needs to take, like how she takes small steps but her friends push her to go further (Nijika asking her to be in her band, Kita signing up for her), but Ryo's POV makes a lot of sense here (haven't watched the vid yet btw)

    Ryo, the Ubermensch I guess.
It is amazing that lots of information are hidden in those songs, and before I know them I wouldn't feel that deep when watching the anime. With extra information from songs, it brings the emotion to a higher level. And fortunately enough, that your interpretations for the songs are amazing! Not only how good is the analysis but also how you presented it. This is very touching for me, and just happened to watch this video while I'm having problems and doubts with my uniqueness from everyone else in my life as well.
Ryo and your video did help me emotionally. And this is a time for me to personally feel what "It might not connect with too many people, but those it does, it'll hit deeply" means.

Another banger analysis as always! I struggled trying to analyze it on my own, but I always had a feeling the lyrics were about Ryo despite elements relating to Bocchi as well. So yeah I'm agreeing with you that it's Ryo's song and message. Of her story with past experiences and how she is right now as an individual. We might not know much about her in the story itself, but the genius writing behind the lyrics is more than enough for us to truly appreciate and admire the bassed character that is Ryo.
(Yes, future generations should use Kessoku band songs to study literature lmao)

Amazing analysis on the best character!
As someone who values being alone and walking a solo path, Ryo's a character whom I really love throughout the series.
While Bocchi may speak to those who are alone because of anxiety, Ryo speak to us folks who are alone because we love solitude.

I love Ryo and Bocchi, my two favorite girls out of here, and seeing their connection/story thru this song is amazing
Also I can relate to the idea of the song and whole Ryo's character development, like me frfr, maybe I'm kinda introvert-narcissist myself too
