i've been waiting for you to start including minimum framerates and you finally have. thank you and good job.
Great content and magnificent benchmarks as always, been watching your videos for over 5 years now, never failed me
Was looking for your vid on this Tom. You always provide crazy charts since you test so damn much, you mad man. Have a great week sir.
I haven't seen your videos since Sandy Bridge. Good to see you're still at it.
Just want to say thanks for your great videos and hard work mate! Much appreciated.
I'm crying.. my 1950x, just over 6000.. This is indeed Time To Upgrade :)
Yes Tom! Over 200k. 1M soon. Keep going.
Thanks fer another honest review Tom best wishes to you and yours
Excellent review. Love you, and your Sis. Keep up the good work. My heart is always with you and your family.
Thanks Tom!
Here first as always, cracking review thanks Guv!
@OC3D Great review Thanks for the F Clock information. I was lucky enough to purchase Ryzen 5900x today. This is going to be my first AMD processor/build so all this information is super helpful. All I need now is my 🔥DARK HERO🔥 😎👍🏿
Thanks Tom. Amazing review as always.
Great video, im struggling to get my head round overclocking completely, I have a 5950X and RTX 3090, I was wondering if you think its okay to use Asus Ai suite to auto OC?
Great review Tom, guaranteed OC3D quality 👌 AMD's on a real roll, great to see them back at the top!
Awesome stuff! As you said, 5900x seems like the deal in terms of best gaming and production performance. I'm also REALLY impressed by the new all-core OC ceiling which now seems to be ~4.7 Ghz whereas Zen 2 topped out at ~4.3 Ghz.
Top notch as always fella
Thanks man!!
Hi Tom, would you be able to explain what is the F Clock you were mentioned meaning please? At the moment I have 4x 8gbs (3200mhz cl16) I have done a lot of bench test on cinebench r20 and I only get about 8000points and didn’t run at its speed of 4.9ghz. Really don’t know the issue there, I assume because I have lower speed of ram...Would you be able to help please?
Ehhh finally!! I really want to see what they pack :)
That case on the table can sure fit you Tom.. :D
AMD are still unstoppable it seems. Thanks for the review as always Tom.
Well they are stoppable the supply that came in today not many 5900x s AMD was full of shit, we have suffient supply I got check said in stock then 20th November fuck nows
idk why but i only get 7200 points on r20 with my 5900x. it gets cooled with 1x hydro x with 2x 360mm Copper rads. it runs in r20 multi only to 4,2 ghz all core is that normal?. got in running with 3600mhz 2x 16gb corsair vengance on x570 msi meg ace mb
@@h4ckerhunter Pretty normal. Ryzen is great but out of the factory clocks are really all you get to play with.
They do respond well to tuned memory so may be worth looking into that.
@@DC3Refom how are they full of shit when demand overwhelms supply?
@@h4ckerhunter hey just wondering if you have fixed your issue? I have done the cinebench myself and I get 8260 points with
Ram: 3200mhz cl16,
Mobo: Aorus x570 elite
Cooling: 360mm Z73 NZXT
I have looked up on youtube they get around 8600 points, but with better RAM CAS like cl14 etc...
Please let me know. I want to get higher point as well
welcome back Amd, we missed you
Really good review, above and beyond to test the limits!
The best as always from you my friend.
always good thank you
I really hope RX6800 will be worth the wait. Desperately need to upgrade my build. I love my monitor but at the time of purchase you needed a high end gpu just to utilise a 1440. I went with a 1080 thinking it would be fine. Lowering the setting in games is not something I thought I would have to do after purchasing a new build.
Ohhh wait I need a coffee and some biscuits. Time to see the 2nd ZEN3 CPUs review!
How do you do your temperature tests (i.e. what are you running when assessing the temps)?
Also, just wondering why you say you wouldn't be comfortable with the 4.7 GHz setup you used on a day to day basis. Although the max temps during stress testing are getting close to 90C, presumably those temps would be much lower in almost any practical scenario. For example, I have my 5950X set to 4.6 GHz @ 1.30 V and the temps during Cinebench R20 get to the high 80s. But when I look at the temp during any normal application (gaming, video rendering, etc.) it never goes above the mid 70s. So does it really matter that it goes to 90C during stress testing?
hey-up folks how goes it?
bezzie mate just bought around some freshly baked homemade cookies (coconut, white chocolate and raspberry) which i'll be dunking in my coffee whilst watching the review

Exactly the same for me m8... I couldn't get a 5900x cpu, but I did find a shop selling a 5900x bundled with asus v111hero, not necessarily the board I would have chosen, but it will do the job nicely. Enjoy ur 5900k hope ur also better soon👍

Ah yes, R9 3950X and TR 3995WX are "budget" options.

I have a 5900x with a noctua NH-U12S (with push pull). At stock setting my cpu boosts to 4.5Ghz in games while hitting 82 degrees celcius at most in cyberpunk 2077. While running cinebench r23 my cpu boosts to 4.7Ghz at 84 degrees celcius. I am aware that most people would choose an AIO for this cpu and that i am somewhat limiting my cpu on air, but I am happy with a reliable air cooler at stock cpu settings. Hope this gives people a good idea what its like using a mid range air cooler on these high end cpus.
Using a Dark Rock Pro 4 with the 5900X, highest temp it ever recorded, 72

stock issues in the uk ? , i could not get the 5800x anywhere i tried online (5x e-tailers)
Thank you for a great video. But I though this was about only CPUs comparisons, not over locking RAM!
Hi! What's that black casing/chassis in this video?
how much fps would you gain/lose if you set that ram to 4400 cl17? and leaving fclk to 1800 because ive seen intel gain atleast 21% going from 3200 to 4400 and the ring bus set 50. cause so far it seems the cpu's are being held back by memory speeds and fclock now
I have seen all the new 5000 series CPUs pop up in online stores here in Central Europe, but they have either been very expensive (+200 euros above mrsp) or they have been on backorder.
It is not as bad as with 3080, but it is close. I will wait a bit. Maybe get a 2700X first and then just upgrade the CPU next year.
So for your PBO you only had to change those 2 settings in the bios?
How do one do the "Max cpu boost clock override 200MHz" on a Gigabyte Auros x570 motherboard? i can't find that setting anywere?
That case is so big for no reason lol. I have the 5900x and it's a beast, half of the cores regularly boost over 4.8ghz with a few hitting 4.95 out of the box with no PBO
hard getting 1 of these, I tell you. I had 30 mins of time out and refreshes on several shops, until 1 order went out.
I've been having a nightmare with my new 5950x build continually getting Whea Uncorrectable Errors BSOD.
Mobo: Aorus Xtreme x570 latest bios.

Cleared the cmos and installed bios on both of them.

Any ideas what the problem might be?
Please help Mr Logan.
Nice review, and just long enough to finish my tea. ;) Looks like I'm going team Red for my December upgrade.
@OC3D TV Sorry my English isn't the best one. Did I understand you correctly that running 4000 Mhz is somehow like playing the lottery? So there will be and update, and only if my 5950X CPU can run the F clock at 2000 Mhz I will be able to use 4000 Mhz Rams? Means I could also get a 5950X which is not able to run the F clock at 2000 Mhz?
Quick question would you say pbo with 200nhz offsett is worth enabling for gaming on this cpu or would I be better off leaving at stock and having better temperatures I'm guessing the only thing I do on my pc is game
I forgot to mention it's the 5600x CPU I have
Can you guys mention your 5950x temps on full load here, my 5950x goes to 90c and stays there 8 whole time while running cinebench r23, im using NZXT X73
Managed to get my hands on a 5800X, should have it tomorrow. Just need to find a GPU to complete my new build.
Question - stay with Nvidia and try and get a RTX 3070/3080 on a g -sync monitor or go with RX 6800 on a non-freesync monitor (AGON AG352UCG6)?
Bit of a no brainer. I would go for 6800 for SAM and better price/perofrmance. Just wait for benchmarks. Hope this helps
Love your reviews buddy! Thanks for all the hard work and time you put into keeping us informed!

15:27 Because you're using minutes as a measurement and minutes go upto 60 seconds (not a round 100) it doesn't really work.
You mean "4minutes 59 seconds" (299 seconds total) and type in "4.59" but the system thinks that is 4.59*60=275.4 seconds.
If you meant 2min 59sec for "A" and 3min 0sec for "B" you're putting in 2.59 and 3.00 respectively, A 1sec difference.
But the system see's "A" as 60*2.59=155.4sec and "B" as 60*3=180 which is a 24.6 sec difference.
Look at 5950x OC vs 5950x PBO with times of 11:59 and 12:05, It should be a gap of only 6 seconds, But the graph shows a wide gap thats more like 27 seconds.
Meanwhile the 5950x stock time of 12:25 (an extra 20 seconds over 5950x PBO) is very close.
It's like having a graph measuring things in feet and inches, Unless the person making the video is careful software gets confused, To software 3.15 would be "3ft 15 inches" and perfectly valid.... But its best to just say "51 inches".
I would highly suggest switching to just 1 unit like seconds and not some arbitrary denomination such as minutes and then trying to decimalise it.
Edit: other example
A) 3800xt=15min 55sec
B) 3700x X570 OC=16min 1sec (A difference of 6 seconds).
B) 3700x X570 OC=16min 1sec
C) 3800XT=16min 12sec (A difference of 11 seconds)
The last 2 are MUCH closer together than the first 2
Software thinks A and B are 0.46 units apart or 27.6seconds..
How is the 5900x PBO generally beating the 5950x in games?
In the Sony Vegas bench, the 10980xe is 18 cores, I wouldn't be sad that it performed better than the 5950x with 16 cores, especially considering that AMD's is $200 cheaper. So while the 10980xe was faster, I wouldn't say it was $200 faster. It would have been interesting to compare the 5950x with a Threadripper with 32 and 64 cores for these types of applications too.
Oh yeah, also the 10980xe only supports PCIe 3.0, so data transfer of large videos will be slower than the AMD 5950x which supports PCIe 4.0. So the extra minute in rendering time you save, is lost by the extra amount of time it takes to transfer the resulting video.
I did exactly what you said, with pbo Im overclocked to 4.98 why is mine so much higher ? Ive got EKWB aoi 360 temp hit a high of 70 , fans set on turbo, Asus tuf 570 gaming pluss , I did same thing you did you got 4.7 i got 4.9 almost 5. why is there such a difference??
Sheeeeesh

Woo hoo
The 5800x is definitely the odd one out.
5600x and 5900x are the buys. AMD really want to shift those 6-core CCDs.
Intel + Nvidia is a much more stable choice !!
is 70c safe for a 5900x? mine runs at that sometimes and im kinda scared
this morning i updated my bios to the most recent 1216 and now my temp at full load go to 90c and stay there till test is done, i dont know if i should go back to old bios version
Curiously other reviewers had AMD a little ahead on Shadow of the Tomb Raider (although I think they were using 3080/3090s). Regardless, these new CPUs are still all round Intel killers.
@Warped Sounds didn't see Jay's review, but maybe PCIE 4 helps a little when using a 30 series. Just a random guess anyway, I don't have any of the new hardware yet.
Is there a difference between
Ryzen 9 5900X and Ryzen 7 5800X
In games I use games only
Spend the extra $100 and get the 5900x, ifyou're right on money, the 5600x is just as good, it just performs slightly less. The 5600x has beat Intel's top cpu currently so it comes down to your budget.
Others like Jay and Linus are saying there is an advantage in games this video is saying there isn't and they're not always margin of error giving games like Far Cry 5 and Tomb Raider an 8% or 9% edge instead of trailing Intel by 1~6 frames. Is the 2080ti not powerful enough for this test?
Think you need a range of GPU's - all the results were on the same GPU with the same GPU drivers though and AMD got to see my review a day before launch
@@OC3D Yeah there's obviously an advantage to it being consistent with past reviews too. I was just wondering if that explained some of the differences.
Everyone is repeating This Memory Problem

TEN nano seconds!?!??!?
Unforgivable....
This gentleman seems to have forgotten to mention not to go out and buy faster than 3600 memory unless you have a board capable of those speeds. Some b550's are but certainly not all. x570, believe it or not, is typically worse for memory than is b550. B550 is a newer memory architecture which is why it might be preferable over x570 despite the diminished PCIe 4.0 support. It can handle faster memory and overclocks are more easily achieved, even overclocks as simple as xmp/docp.
You can't hit 2000Mhz 1:1 Fclk on Zen 2 chiplets and as it uses the same memory controller on Zen 3 your chancers are less than zero.
Why do all reviewers omit the one thing that may be a deal breaker? ....
BOOT/POST TIMES from button press to signon or Windows desktop. I
guess cause it WOULD be a deal breaker?
Just sayin. Thanks for the Review.
Minor changes in the bios and bios updates make huge differences to this. It's just like game and driver updates. What's on the os needing to start up ect would need to be considered Plus motherboards themselves are all different too so it's almost impossible to compare.

Sorry mate, I am subscribed and I do follow and watch your vids but this time your numbers are off compared with the rest of the reviewers and by quite a bit... Also I really cant understand your reasoning for not testing more games and waiting for the new GPUs to come out for you to do so. You can just test them all now and add a bar for every other GPU that gets released.
We picked cpu bound games and not just a load of pointless numbers fella. Everything was also tested with the same drivers so all really fair. 1 or 2 frames is nothing
It's very possible that it's motherboard differences or even benchmark variation. Just because these benchmarks show AMD as not winning, it doesn't make them wrong.
Also just to add - our GPU test rig is currently powered by a 3950x system we set up just before the Nvidia GPU's got released. We will be testing the AMD GPU's on that same rig to start with - thats how we keep everything fair. We will do some testing with a 5000 series CPU but that will be extra testing. We wont build a system to specifically favour one brand.
