  • The Rolex GMT-Master II 126710BLRO is undoubtedly one of the best and most desirable watches of today-just try and buy one new if you don’t believe me-but aside from its scarcity, there’s a single complaint owners have had that stands out as a tiny blemish on an otherwise perfect watch: the bezel, or to be more specific, the colour of the bezel. Well, we’re going to try and fix it.

Gradient bezel is a fun thought exercise, but your colors don't really align with the actual hours on the bezel? (shouldn't it be rotated 180º, so the darkest portion is at 24:00, and the sky blue is at 12:00?

John Yu Not it shouldn’t, that’s assuming that the darkest hour of the night, is midnught. And the lightest moment of the day is at 12. But don’t forget this is a gmt master designed for travel. What if you travel to the arctic circle during summer when the sun barely sets for maybe a couple of hours a night, or vice versa in summer ? The issue would be a lot more complicated.

Part of the problem with your gradient bezel is that when it gets dark varies by not only season but also latitude. When it gets dark at 22:00 in Western Europe, it gets dark in most of the U.S. around 18-19:00.

A couple of features on two of my watches I wish I could change are: 1 - On myBlack Bay GMT have the 24 hour hand as an arrow (like the Rolex) rather than the snowflake. I think its one snow flake too many. 2 - On my dark rhodium Oyster Perpetual 39mm have applied polished batons all the way around the face instead of lume at 3,6 & 9. Would look much classier and hark back to the classic OP’s and Datejusts of the 60’s. Saying that I love both watches as they are!

The only reason i still wear the ‘old GMT2’ is the size of the new one. With 42 mm it is just a little to much for a watch that is not very delicate of its own. But i love those faded colours if the bezel. Dont do anything about that, but i really loved the way you fixed a non-existing problem.

Too bad the mockup rainbow bezel is backwards -- night would be at 24, noon at 12.
And didn't Rolex revise the BLRO colors after a year-ish of production? More reddish, less pink?

I am assuming that the Blue/Red bezel problem is now well and truly solved. There are now Chinese Explorer 2 knockoffs by San Martin and Chronos with an apparently perfect ceramic Blue/Red bezel, and these watches are selling for about $300.

Great video! And it doesn't make a difference what Rolex comes out with--we still can't get our hands on one. :(

the only thing that prevents me from buying the black dial Explorer 2 is the shiny white gold around the indices. if they'd used blackened ones (DLC'ed?) like they did on the white dial then the black dial would be an amazing watch. but the shine from the indices as they are ruins the aesthetics for me.
