- If you’re looking at buying your first premium watch, or even if it’s not your first rodeo, it can be a bit daunting trying to find the one that’s right for you. I drove 40 minutes to buy a watch I had been lusting after and saving up for for weeks. When I was at the store, I made the mistake of looking at other models that I also liked. Eventually, it came down to two pieces - the one I had planned to buy and another one I also really liked. The salesman said nothing and I managed to unsettle myself about which one to buy. Then the guy spoke up and simply said "usually, it's the one that you wanted initially that will do it for you". That snapped me out of it and I bought the watch I had come to buy in the first place. And every time I wear the watch and look at it, I'm glad the salesman set me straight.
I fired him, He should've sold you both watches.

Had the same experience. However, I went the opposite way because the one I didn't expect to see there had always been one that I wanted so badly. I ditched the watch I went to the store to buy and bought the one I always wanted.

(with addons if possible) Could've asked him why he was buying his watch to replace an old one? for work? 'Two watches are better then one' have you not heard the age old saying mister?! Probably 6 or 7 years ago. I have a JLC Master Complete Calendar that cost $1,200 to overhaul a few years back (ouch). Not looking forward to having the Breguet serviced, but it theory, the basic movement is the same as in many Omegas.

Sold my TAG and finally got the watch of my dreams for 10 years my submariner blue with gold bezel and gold middle. Love it and definitely draws conversation as I’m a lorry driver and not expected to own one with tattoos and shaved head lol work hard play hard .

Good on ya, mate! I'm a 59-year-old retiree in Savannah GA, and I'm wearing mine right now. I saw this watch back in 1977 in a jewelry store window, and was never the same. Had to have it, and did, 30 years later. I love mine.

Very positive message, unfortunately I don't buy it, because what people at first think they want is what they saw being advertised to them. This kind of "buy the watch you want" thinking is EXACTLY what garbage watch brands want uninformed consumers to do. The message would only be true after a few YEARS of researching for oneself.

I agree with these points. I almost fell for the last one...ive wanted a really high end quartz watch for a long time with 'post apocalypse proof' features such as being solar powered and made from titanium and sapphire. I really wanted a Tissot T Touch Expert but couldn't afford the $1000 price tag. On numerous occasions I almost bought a more 'sensible' option, a Citizen, with most of the features I wanted. But, it just wasn't a Tissot, and ultimately I never settled for less. Finally a week ago I found the Tissot I wanted being sold as a display case model for a decent $120 discount off of what I'd normally find it for. Still expensive. I sent him an offer for $130 less than that, and he accepted, netting me a nice $250 discount. Despite still being expensive for me, as I look at it on my wrist right now I dont regret waiting to buy it.

Just bought a $50 Casio analog quartz 200m divers, with the optional rose gold tone bezel and hands, because the goldish hands I've discovered, they will reflect even the tiniest bit of light well enough to read in almost total darkness and I'm an old guy and self-winders need some extra daily arm shaking to keep ticking. I've had $300+ similar looking watches from seiko, pulsar, elgin, even one that was radioactive so I could read it in the total darkness of my coffin for 25 years - so many self-winders over my lifetime and most will last a dozen or so years with absolutely no maintenance. I like this $50 casio more than I've liked any watch face before. Even it lasts only the life of its 3yr battery, I'm likely to replace it with another of the same. But then again, this may be the last watch purchased during my lifetime, as I am that old, that I may not outlive this Casio, but I still might do some boating, swimming or adjusting a lawn sprinkler.

I like my AP and Lange, but seldom get a chance to wear them as I often travel / work in rather dangerous neighborhood down in South America villages and farms.

What I like about this video: 1) video is absolutely professional and grabs attention from the start to the end 2) the narrator speaks clearly and has a moderate, pleasant tone of voice 3) video is clear and crisp and macro is just great, a pleasure to see! This said, I totally agree with comment before this one.
Another suggestion: avoid expensive watches with quartz movements, especially Swiss ones like Tag Heuer, Breitlings with the ETA quartz chronograph movements, the batteries in these watches don't last long. I had a TAG 2000 series with the ETA 251.262 that needed a new battery soon after finding the watch with a very low price.
1. The one from an unreputable source.
2. The one that's just an investment.
3. The one you haven't considered servicing costs for.
4. The one someone else tells you to get.
5. The one you could have now over the one you could have saved for.
But man, the lessons in this video are gold.

I would not buy watch just because it can go up in value and I don’t like that watch. I have done that, not regret as I can sell and get money back. But I keep it in my safe and rarely wear them. It’s like buying a gold bar.

i think that people who do such things dont realize that a watch or any material thing wont make you special.
Just get a watch that you like, it doesnt matter if its a unique one or just mainstream.
And lets be honest, in the world of watches there is no such thing as mainstream, because most of the population dont even wear a watch.
I don't mind a pre-owned watch. You have no choice getting a vintage watch. But it needs to look like its been looked after. No damaged dials or eaten up cases. Cape Cod cloths do wonders to most watches. They don't cut into the metal.

Interesting video as usual. The only issue I have with this channel is that it doesn’t take a stance on anything...they never really critique any watch, it’s always positive.
I'll be very honest and straight forward here with my fellow watch lovers ! If I had to put aside availability issues on the market, if all watches (Rolex included, AP, Patek Philippe) were available at retail prices and if i had to buy a watch to wear it everyday, without considering any "investment crappy theories" : "What watch would I be buying ?"
After years of researches, hundreds of reviews I saw on RUclips, after countless shops I visited, I said to myself :
1/ I want a watch that can "handle LIFE", I want to be able to jump into a pool without having to remove it, or go to a karting session with my buddies without fearing to break it ! Not a "jewel watch" to show off for garden parties only !
2/ I want something built like a tank yet delicate and classy and be able to wear it with sweatpants or a nice Italian suit if needed.
3/ I want an exceptionally good timepiece, Swiss made or eventually Japanese, with a hand assembled prestigious and reliable automatic movement
4/ I want the best "bang for the buck" out of it, I want the best possible quality for my money and not be paying mostly for "the Brand name".
5/ I want a model which proved reliable over the years that doesn't need a 700€ servicing every two years !
6/ I want a watch with a respectable Brand history, that contributed to the legends of the watchmaking industry and not from some fancy designers that usually make clothings !
7/ I want a watch from a Brand that treats me as a king, because "the customer is king" and i'm doing THEM a favor by putting my money (the value of a small car) into their product ! And not the other way around ! Not everyone is able to spend around 10K€ on a watch ! So They are not doing me any favor by letting me buy their product, it should never ever work this way ! They are a business and getting money from me, therefore they should be rewarding me with the utmost respect ! If not they can keep their crap and choke with it !
So what's the conclusion of it ? : The only Brand that matched every single condition of the specifications i mentioned is Omega ! And the model i'm considering is the Seamaster Chrono ! My dreamwatch 🤩. I will be getting one soon ! The only issues I have is to decide between the "chrono" or the regular version and Black dial or White dial (knowing that the white dial doesn't exist in the chrono version).

Good, solid logic my man. And your eventual conclusion will not let you down in any way. (Amongst a horde of other dive watches, I own a 3rd generation Seamaster 300M). Just bear in mind however that the chronograph version may be just a tad too sporty for formal wear. I hope you get your choice and good luck to you!
couldn't agree more about the Breitling. A friend got it from an untrustworthy auction site. The watch that he did receive looked like the Navitimer with all the sunburst face and the slide rule but it turned out to be a fake when we took it to an exclusive retailer. The retailer opened the case-back and there... a cheap Chinese automatic movement with a hair-spring on the verge of splitting apart. $4000+ went up in the air.
I was expecting 5 specific models, but this was much more helpful.

Avoid doing what my mother did - bought a fake Longines from a backstreet store in Thailand.
It looked great for the equivalent of about £60 in Baht.
It was only when the store assistant started filling out the warranty card that she redid her mental arithmetic on the exchange rate and realised she'd just bought a real one for £600 😄
At least she got a nice watch out of it, even if she hadn't quite planned for it!

Don't buy watch to impress people. Watch is a personal tool and fine jewelry man can have. It should bond with you not with other people.
Look at a watch. Remove brand power of the watch from your head. Do you still love it? Does it represent who you are? Will you wear it? Does it justify the cost? All checks off then that is the watch you want!

I'm only just watching this video today and it resonated with me.
I've been looking to buy a new watch for a while and I did the mistake of starting to read reviews and opinions and it sent me down a rabbit hole.
"Don't buy this watch!" - "This brand sucks!" - "Can This *Cheap watch* compare to a Rolex?!"
It really annoys me with all the snobbery in the watch world. I can't afford a Rolex or Seamaster, heck, I can barely even afford a Seiko that's more than 200£!
And I found a couple of Invicta's that I really liked and that had gotten great reviews.
But then I did the mistake of looking at YT reviews.
And SOOO many just slag them off from dusk till dawn.
One guy compared an Invicta Speedway to a Rolex Daytona!? I mean. WHY!?! Thats like comparing Pizza Hut to authentic Italian Pizza. Absolutely stupid.
Of course, I'd LOVE to have the money to get a Rolex, but when would I use it? I want a watch to wear it and use it and with a Rolex, I'd never have the balls to wear it in fear of it getting mugged, broken or something like that.
My sister-in-law has a Folex from Dubai, which looks really good. I'm not an expert, but I couldn't tell the difference between her Folex and an actual Rolex. Obv apart from it being scratched and worn at her work as a cleaner. :)
But, all that aside, after questioning myself and cancelling my original order a couple of times, I finally said "Flack it, I'm ordering this watch because I like it".
Like you say in this video, the only watch you are really going to love, is the one that you WANT to buy and the one that your gut feeling tells you to get.
There will always be someone who dislikes your watch, regardless what it is.
An the only opinion you should care about, is your own.
Also, don't listen to people who compare a Rolex to an Invicta. Just. Don't. :)

Wanted an Omega Seamaster for years and years. Finally got a good job and was able to buy a new one, the exact model I wanted, for about $1,200. I have worn it happily every day for over 20 years...aim high and buy what you want. The cost will be forgotten eventually but quality is never regretted.
I have one of the Bering Titanium watches, and I love it to bits. My mom got it for me as an early high school graduation present and I couldn’t be happier. Since then I’ve done a ton of research on it, and found out that I could have gotten something with more features for around the same price, or even less, but I wouldn’t trade my watch in for any of those. I wear it everyday and I’m really happy with it.

That was excellent and my idea, 3 years ago now, was to treat myself to a good watch and did not want to buy something ostentatious like a Rolex or Omega (they are nice) so wanted a brand that wasn't known to many. I ended up choosing a Bremont MBIII and I couldn't be happier. I love the look and feel and most people don't realise what a good timepiece it is.
I've bought some premium hand built watches. They all tell the time okay, but being mechanical they need internal cleaning, lubrication, and adjustment after three to five years depending on the type of movement. This type of maintenance is expensive. Typical maintenance for an Omega Speedmaster, or a Planet Ocean, or a Rolex Mariner, or a Tag Chronometer, or the average Breitling, can typically run in to the range of $800 to $1200 if no replacement parts are required. Being mechanical, over time there are parts that will wear out. These are watches in a stainless steel casing that the purchase cost is in the range of $10,000 to $15,000 typically. With the more exotic designs the cost can go in to the range of $20,000 and up with no limit!
For example, if the front glass is damaged which on many of these watches is made out of sapphire the glass. This glass alone can be in the cost of $600 to $1000 average price. If it has silk screening as like numbers or indicators on it the cost can typically be in the range of $1200 just for the glass. There is a number of hours of labor to change the glass providing no other damage is done. The labor to change the glass can easily be in the range of $200. On the diving watches there is a rotating bezel for the interval indications. With some of these watches this bezel is made with ceramic and the etched in numbers are platinum or rhodium, or some other non oxidizing very hard metal alloy for endurance. If the bezel is damaged from being struck the replacement cost can exceed $1000.
There are high end quartz watches, but after some years, they may not be serviceable because the electronic parts and modules may no longer be available if there is failure. If you want a good quality quartz watch best to buy the level of watch you need or would like, but it is not worth to spend thousands of dollars on one unless it is a specialty type and you absolutely want the features. There are many terrific quartz watches in the under $1000 range that are excellent. If the watch goes defective out of warranty, generally they are not worth to have serviced. Simply get a new one. Basic service can be in the few hundred dollar range just to start with, and you still have an obsolete quartz watch. As for accuracy nothing you can wear on your wrist will beat any quality quartz watch. Timex and Casio watches starting in the few hundred dollar range can keep time down to less than a minute a year accuracy!
As for time keeping a mechanical watch will never be the same as an electronic quartz watch. Mechanical watches accuracy is subjected to temperature change, how the wearer moves around, and physical activity. These watches can be easy to be damaged if struck too hard. With a high end mechanical watch if damaged it can be very expensive to service. A bent or broken balance wheel or escapement shaft replacement with the labor can typically cost in to the range of $500 to $1500, because of the big disassembly, re-assembly, and adjustment cost and time. In a way, owning a high end watch can be more expensive to service than your car.
It is important to make sure your purchase is from a reputable dealer. There are many replicas (counterfeits) out there. Choose your high end watch based on your own opinion. Make sure you have a dealer who you can absolutely trust. You can contact the watch manufacture to recommend a dealer closest to you. This way you will be sure the dealer is okay to buy from.

Appreciate the post. Have been weighing whether to get a nice automatic but this post has convinced me to stick with my basic casio and put the money elsewhere.
When a watch has been running for 3 or 5 years there’s always some wear.
I have worked for Omega and they have standard prices for a full service. This price contains new parts, hands, polishing the watch and replacing everything for water resistance.
There are of course some parts that are more expensive. Like the main plate and the complete balance + bridge.
But if you really love a watch you should buy it. You have 3 to 5 years to go until it has to be serviced.

After 25 years of wearing various watches from my collections, my advice would be to look for watches that don't feel so heavy on the wrist. I love plexi-crystals. They make the watch lighter, look cooler, buff out easy to hide scratches and don't shatter like glass if you drop them. My everyday watch for 24 years was my 1979 Tudor Snowflake Sub - no date, of course. That watch was a purpose built tool watch in every way. I wore that doing EVERYTHING, from yard work, working on my cars, sailing, sports, etc... I only had it serviced ONCE in that time. I bought it in 1994 for $600 and never worried about it. I just sold it last year for $8500, scratches and all!

The service requirement cannot be emphasised enough. Do not by a fine timepiece if you're not prepared for the cost of ownership. I admit eagerness in building my collection, but buyer's remorse when the service interval arrives - and then passes. Now I have three watches with are well overdue for service and the difference in timekeeping (and chronograph function) is palpable. Wading into the deep end with expensive watches is both figuratively and literally a fool's errand if neither you, nor the timepiece have been pressure tested.
It's why the bulk of my collection are seiko, sellita, and eta movements. Any halfway competent watchmaker will be able to service it. Heck, it's probably cheaper to toss out the movement and put in a new one.
These high end watch companies take you to the cleaners....Zenith and Rolex.

I now have 3 despite trying to resist the continual craving to buy more.
I had the willpower to stop smoking, but I cannot kick my G shock addiction.
Heed my warning; If you buy a G shock you will love it... but you will buy more.

I've been binge watching videos espousing the benefits of premium watches, and the more of them I watch, the less convinced I am that want one. It seems to me that the principal motivation for buying a Rolex, Omega, Breitling, Tag, etc., is the belief that you will be happier and you will feel better about yourself. If this is what one needs to fulfill these needs, there is something missing one's life.
I'm sure I will get a lot of hate and may be branded a troll for leaving a message like this, but I've yet to hear a rational justification for spending thousands of dollars for a device that offers no real added functionality over quartz watch, and as for as accuracy goes, is inferior.
You need a real passion for craftmanship, I guess. If it's just for wanting to know the time a Casio will do. I for one absolutely LOVE the skeleton watches with the glass backs, where you can see the inside and all it's moving parts. A Rolex does nothing for me. It's just another watch, because you can't SEE the craftmanship underneath.
it can also be a reward for accomplishing something great as well as a reminder or a family heirloom or a gift or many other things it doesn't have to be to feel good about yourself
for most people, me included, it's just a hobby(but an expensive one)

I really want it Rolex GMT II but they aren’t available now and the people who have them new wasn’t 50-70% more than retail because the lack is availability. So I end it up with my Tudor Pelagos and I love it. It cost me 4.5k which is half of that of the Rolex I want. I have two other watches amd I will when they are available get the Rolex I want. I would say.. Have two or three of the watches you want that way you can cover all your likes and doubts..I wear them all every couple of weeks I switch amongst the one I have and really love wearing them all. They all have their own personal secrets and likes.. I will probably end up with 5-7 watches at the end..

I love this video because it is so true. I had a friend of mine telling me which watch to get when I really wanted my Aqua Terra. I was all set to buy it and he told me that I should go for the Pklanet Ocean instead. He told me of its heritage, how it had more features, and how it was a better dive watch. I almost went for it, then I realized that I probably never would use those features and certainly never would dive with such an expensive piece of jewelry on my wrist. So I ended up with my Aqua Terra and couldn't be happier. I wear it everyday with pride and am so thankful I didn't listen to him.
I almost did a similiar thing with the 36mm Seamaster Diver 300M, but the friend telling me to buy was myself. Came to my senses and still saving for the Rolex OP 34 that I really want.

My first watch was a Tag Monaco and it’s still my favourite despite now having a decent collection. Just something about the Monaco is retro and looks cool with a T Shirt or suit IMO

I was saving up for a Tudor black Bay 58 . Then I went out and got a Stienhart Ocean one 39 . I am very happy with it but I really see your point now . I still want the 58 . .
Avoid watches everyone else has, simply because everyone else has it. Don't be afraid to buy and wear the piece that you love and excites you. Following the crowd will lead you to a crowded place and your individuality will disappear.

I bought a used YM since it was my grail watch. After a few years I sent it off for service. Had no idea it would be $908. Sold it not long after.

Buy the watch you want but be practical. 36 years ago I bought a Pulsar/Seiko in Il. at a mall right off the highway heading to St. Lou. $106, black, military time, glow in the dark trim, day and date, quartz and when the battery gets low it starts skipping from one sec. movement to two at a time to warn you. I still wear it and only replace the battery when needed. How much better does it get than that? I mean really!
Exactly right in what you said. I purchased a Seiko Solar military watch here in the UK for £80 in a sale at a reputable jewellers, It is a watch I wear regularly and never lets me down. Being solar powered I don't need to worry about a battery just use light to keep it charged artificial or daylight
It doesnt has the story craftmanship and quality I want to get a Omega speedmaster or a watch with a nice story or detail on it
My 1986/87 Rolex Submariner and Omega Seamaster were stolen from from my home around 4 years ago. The Sub was a very important possession and its theft was a huge loss in many ways. I can no longer leave it to my first grandson, for example. If you own nice timepieces, secure them.

My Father had a Franck Muller Watch laying around at home and he told me that it was a gift from an old friend who passed away. Because i was intrested in the worth of the watch, i took it to an shop, where the employee told me that it sadly is a fake. He told me that it is still a really good automatik watch, not just a cheap fake with batteries. I wasn't shooked or anything, cause a gift is a gift, but i was blownaway of how far fakers go to copy good brands, espacially when it comes to watches.
So don't buy any watch Archie Luxury owns. Got it.

Three rules for me:
1) Buy the watch you really want. If you get something else, you'll just end up spending more money in the long run
2) Rarely be quick to jump on a purchase. Unless you absolutely know you want a particular watch, just mull on it. I've missed out on watches I thought I really wanted, but when I missed out, the urge went away.
3) Never go in debt over a watch. You can argue it is ok if you can pay it off quickly and without eating into basic living expenses.
I bought what I really like, but I wear what I am allowed to wear. I can’t wear AP in third world neighborhoods and I can’t wear gold president in office meetings when my boss only wear a steel Batman.
Gotta correct you on 3). NEVER get a loan to buy a watch. It doesn't matter how quick you can pay it off. It's gonna build a bad habit.

A fine video. I hafta admit, I was expecting a list of specific models of watches to avoid. What you have posted is excellent advice about waiting until the watch you want to own crosses your path and then buying it because you want to OWN it. I used to be in the guitar business, and would give similar advice to the people who would ask, "wouldn't a such-and-such guitar be a good INVESTMENT?" No. I recommended buying the guitar only if they WANT to OWN it. There are many reasons WHY you might want to own it, such as, I wanna play music on it, or I like the way it looks on my wall, or I wanna brag that I own a prestige model. Your video says exactly the same thing about watches.
Thanks for the great video and info! I needed this. Everyone's been telling me to get a Rolex Sub, I like it but don't love. Same goes for the Daytona. I would consider an Explorer??? However, the timepiece that my heart has been set on for YEARS now is an Omega Seasmaster! I will buy one!
I was in the same predicament. I always loved the Seamaster 300m, and I specifically wanted the ink blue dial (no wave pattern) with the blue ceramic bezel. I could never really afford to go out and buy one up front but I was willing to save up. Once I'd saved up the money and was ready to make the purchase, everyone I knew began telling me that I should continue to save up for the Rolex Submariner or at least a steel sports Rolex as it would keep its value better than the Omega would, which is true. I liked the Submariner at one point, although it was about 3 times the price of the Omega and atleast 3 times as boring. I really liked the 36 and the 39 Explorer 1 and I was especially fond of the OP 36mm with the blue dial. But ultimately, my heart was set on the Seamaster 300m and no amount of persuasion from others was going to change my mind. I have had the Omega for over a year now and I still absolutely love it.

All good advice. I bought the watch I really, really wanted in late 2003. A Tag Heuer 6000 Chronometer blue dial and steel case on a steel bracelet. Still love it.

The servicing cost is a great tip. I was looking at a vintage omega seamster, only around $1000 but turns out the servicing costs are are around 500 and the an old watch like that isn't quite sturdy and may need more consistency servicing. Food for thought...
Nah bro dont get a vintage seamaster aim for an 007 seamaster its pricey but it's way better and holds decent value. Make sure you check the MM also 38MM has less value
The six one ypu should not buy is the hyped one, because during this hype on the watch the prices may be to high. Just like the do on the tudor watches now, wait a bit an buy your watch when the prices are going down. (sry for my Englisch, is not my native language)
I just started my journey in watches and I brought my old Citizen Promaster Dive 200 to service because it was not running. It’s a gift by my granny for when I finished middle school (early 2000s). If that watch is going to work I’m going to keep it until I can afford a more serious diver. But now, since I started to delve into this artwork and learn how they work, I find myself longing for an affordable automatic dive watch I can wear every single day. Perhaps a Seiko (for his history) or a Citizen. Once I save a little money I would love to buy a Mido Dive watch and then my ultimate goal will be a black submariner. I already know this newly found passion is going to last until my last day on earth. Thanks for the informative videos.

I would add to avoid brands that are just marketing exercises. Taking a city name or an occupation. Out sourcing every component, finding an entry level auto calibre and splurging on showrooms or fancy websites with claims of numbers of years in the industry being wildly inflated.

Hamilton Rose gold X-wind(auto), Omega Seamaster(midsize)quartz, luminox 3000series, Omega speed master1980's (refurbished ☺️), Fortis pilot watch, victorinox stainless steel ...these are my watches.
I now avoid quartz watches like the plague. I have a number of watches, and with quartz watches they seem to always require new batteries, which in a decent watch is expensive and time consuming, I have a quartz Breitling that I have had twenty years, and it still costs me $300 for a new battery every couple of years. Automatic watches are more interesting to me, my only exception being I do own a bunch of Citizen Ecodrives for every day wear.

Not really clickbait at all, it's more of a fairly clever title that gets a reaction before you even watch the video. Even more so because I saw a Navitimer and a Black Bay and went "you what?!" Then watched it. The thing is the actual content is good.

just be careful , all watches need servicing at some point , ive just got my normal seiko back from servicing & it cost me £100 , not sure what that would be in your country .

Funnily enough, the gold and blue Submariner is one of the watches I'm looking forward to get. My most recent acquisition, the Tudor Black Bay Chrono 79350, is also not popular. But I love it very much. I buy want appeals to me, not what appeals to others. If you buy a watch simply to impress others, then that isn't happiness.
it's a watch I've had my eyes on now for 3 or so years one day I'll buy it, it's Ref no. 126613 and it's gone up a bit since I first fell in love with it! I first saw it in a window display at the mall and it's still there so I'm thinking if I was to go make a nice offer on it they'd probably sell it
Most important watch you should avoid: the one you think is going to make you look cooler, or richer, or more appealing or more fashionable. Other people care about your watch very little. Or your car, etc. Yet I see people wearing really expensive watches they know nothing about as a statement piece.
As you said in the video if you buy watches you love to wear and appreciate yourself, they will always make you happy and your collection will mean something to you. If it doesn’t mean something to YOU then it’s just a bunch of metal bits you spent your hard earned money on.
I can't stand it when I approach someone about the watch they are wearing and they have no clue of the model history etc. "My wife bought it for me." I am probably just jealous.
I'm okay with the "my wife bought it for me" response, especially if they know very little about it, care very little what brand it is but love it for that reason. It only irritates me when they know nothing about a watch but bought Rolex because they think it must be great.
