Having held several, they're impressive pieces of kit, but not everyone is into German watch making with exclusively precious metals. They are heavy and impractical where a steel VC overseas or PP Nautilus can be worn everyday (apples and oranges, I know. But, sometimes people have to choose between dress and casual/sport watches)

@@Atombender that, ladies and gentlemen, is what we call a strawman fallacy.
I have no desire to have a case full of watches I never wear. An increasing number of luxury watch owners only own one grail watch, and if I own one, I would wear it every day--haters be darned. The Rolex GMT master and Submariner became the standard of the industry because you can wear them anywhere, doing anything. It's possible to desire extrodinary craftsmanship and reasonable practicality simultaneously, hence my preferences.

My God, this A. Lange & Söhne Zeitwerk ist amazing. At my last visit to Dresden I saw the original mechanical digital display clock in the Sempera Opera House in Dresden, made 1841 by Mr Johann Christian Friedrich and his then employee and son-in-law Ferdinand Adolf Lange who founded 4 years later A. Lange & Söhne in Glashütte. It's just amazing, that they minimized it and made it into a wrist watch. The craftsmanship is just breathtaking.

ALS is without a doubt THE god of watchmaking and Zeitwerk is the ultimate watch but as biased as I am, the way GO Panorama Date executed the overlying digits of minutes is way cleaner and more seamless. I know I’m being picky, but that vertical gap between the two digits of minutes takes 0.5 point away from the 110% amazing Zeitwerk (in my opinion of course)

Here’s a suggestion for a video. ETA vs. Sellita vs Miyota vs Seiko movements and the iconic watches they power. What’s the difference. Why pay more for one vs. another? Is the generic as good as the original? Or Spring Drive vs CoAxial vs ETA. Lots to cover on this topic. How much is the caliber factor into price of a watch?

Ah, almost my dream collection. That Lange is really the watch of dreams, something so simple looking on the outside yet so complex on the inside. The AP and its nautical inspired design is also perfect in my eyes, sans price. That Rolex whilst magnificent in its own right, I think overlaps with the AP in terms of usage (unless of course, you actually go swimming or diving with your watch on), and I would replace it with a dressier watch. A Cartier Santos, although not technically a dress watch, fits well with the "firsts" theme IMO and I think in today's society would fit well as a dress watch.

The Zeitwerk is an incredible watch and my personal favorite high-horology time piece...the grail watch so to speak. But never achieved before? Maybe not to this level. But I remember as a kid back in the 70s having a digital analogue...as in mechanical, watch myself. They were a dime a dozen at the time and looking rather obsolete next to the rise of LED then LCD electronic digital watches.

The Rolex Submariner was, is, & will always remain as a handsome reliable timepiece. My abstraction on the displayed Audemars Piaget timepiece is that I have more affection for its guts (mechanism) than its glory (appearance). I don’t find it to be attractive in the least bit at all. Aah...the A Lange Sohne displayed model’s remarkable engineering leaves me breathless & speechless. 😮

That APs dial pattern isn't symmetrical with the markers. I know many images are exaggerated by close up photography, but I'd see that everytime I look at the watch.

The 2 watches can both hold the Zeitwerks beer when it shows them how it's done . If i had the means that is the watch i would get the same day ...........or the one with the date complication while im still dreaming
