- This watch is to the question, “Would you like your Lange 1 with a tourbillon or a perpetual calendar?” the answer, “Yes.” The Lange 1 has, since its 1994 launch, been a flagship platform for German watchmaker A. Lange & Söhne to demonstrate its unique take on designing and building watches, and nearly two decades on, the Lange 1 still isn’t pulling any punches. So, what’s so surprising about the Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar? Let’s find out.

The Torbjørn 😂
When I see watches this expensive they're usually hideously unattractive, obscenely extravagant, ostentatious lumps with nothing going for them and have no reason to exist other than an empty show of wealth. This on the other hand, is truly beautiful and exquisite and a masterpiece; something I'll never come close to experiencing, other than in videos like this. Thank you for sharing.
You're so right about those bloated symbols of ostentatious wealth that pass for horological "masterpieces". Sub Dials until the cows come home. Graphic design nightmares for the noveau rich. Sub Mariners inexplicably encrusted with diamonds.
Yes, it is more of a demonstration of human ingenuity. What amused me, however, is the constant promotion of the "eternal calendar." The "eternal calendar" is usually designed for 100 years, exceptionally for 1000 years. This is designed for about 100 years, because the advertisement entices to find the day of the year 2100. There is a simple algorithm behind it, which you can try on paper. The so-called "eternal calendar" has one small drawback - it only entertains for a while, like a similar application on a mobile phone, ie it is not practically usable. But apparently it belongs to the "astrolabe" to which the watch is trying to approach. The watch will find its buyer, who only wants to be different. This is mostly the goal.
“I’m British, how’d you know?”
You can buy a watch this expensive, but you cannot buy time.
@@michielvanerven5638 :/
This is an otherworldly example of design, finish and engineering. The price is completely irrelevant because so few of us will ever be able to own one, it’s enough just to savour this exquisite piece of haute horology vicariously. An absolute tour de force.
I wouldn't own one if I had the money. Spending huge amounts on watches is idiotic; time is free.
@@petepeter1857 That’s your opinion and you’re entitled to it. However, if you feel that way, why are you viewing a watch channel that frequently specialises in expensive timepieces? And why try to diminish those who are lucky enough to be able to afford such things by branding their purchase decisions as “idiotic”? I suspect you’re just trolling.
Obviously a fantastic watch but the finish on the second hand is atrocious
@@petepeter1857 But art isn't.
@@shaverray4462 People tend to make idiotic decisions. Purchase of expensive watches at the time when money can be donated and used for lives improvement is one of them. Viewing this channel is viewing art and achievements of craftsmen.
In the world of 'first-world' problems, resetting a perpetual calendar ranks right up there with Ferrari service intervals. Incredible machine this- simply beautiful in layout and execution. If I win the PowerBall...
I don't know, I'm having a terrible time deciding on a tapestry for my dining room.
I am not big on dressy watches and all those perpetual Pateks and APs have never really scratched my itch, if you know what I mean.. I'm more of a Sinn, Omega, GS kind of guy... But ALS, oh boy.. What a magnificent piece of art. I don't wear suits or tuxedos at all, since I don't find myself in places that necessitate these kind of clothes. That is why I love and wear sporty watches.. But I would buy and wear a suit to a grocery store, just to pair this beautiful watch with a dress code it deserves... According to my humble opinion, A. LAnge and Sohne is THE greatest watch manufacturing company in the world. Period...
Now that being said my choice wouldn't be this Lange 1. I'd go for a Datograph or a Triple split chronograph masterpiece with a salmon dial, thank you very much.
I still couldn't afford one, lol
Not If. WHEN you win it mate.. When you win it. Crank up that positivity!
And when you win it, of course I'll be claiming my mandatory 25% for this cheer, eh? Keep me posted.
A glimpse of the face behind the hands. Brilliantly told story and shots, as always! 😊
Thank you, A Lange & Sohne, for sharing this one. Stunning piece! ❤️
Of all the videos on this channel that I’ve seen, this is the one I’ve enjoyed the most. Absolutely brilliant comments to a brilliant watch. Thank you.
This watch is one of the most beautiful watches I have ever seen. A Masterpiece - full stop. Thank you for this wonderfully produced video. I am a huge fan of this channel.
I really love what A. Lange & Söhne are doing for horology and I love the aesthetic, the finishing, everything about what they are doing.... Still; 300k, that's some walking around money.
Yeah... That's almost zeitwerk minute repeater or 2x triple split money.
Well compared to RM going for millions, it is a bargain for this real watch.
Give it to charity, buy a Citizen Ecodrive watch . I couldn't justify spending that amount of money on a watch, even if I was wealthy enough.
@@zaedlo believe me IF you were THAT wealthy , you wouldn’t mind at all
@@ekimandersom4478 You do know that the guy that makes Richard Mille watches, Giulio Papi, is also responsible in part for the success of ALS? Developing tourbillons and perpetual calendars for them
This is art. Why do folks buy RM at this price point when this is available?
I find it truly amazing how this channel went from a hobby to a channel that the legend itself lends the most amazing watches to.
Work of art
2 tricks, 1 involves emptying your bank account.
This watch looks like a 3D render somehow thrown to real life, it is disturbingly flawless to the point it makes me scratch my head and question reality. I will definitely add witnessing this watch in real life to my grocery list of life.
The diamond cap jewel/end stone does it for me.
Really?!
@@muffemod Diamond end stones are found in antique pocket watches.
@@robertbrowne7880 I know right...the first time I ever saw a ruby jewel in a movement the first thought I had was why aren't these diamonds?!
Nice to see the face behind the voice, even if only for a few seconds. Thanks to Lange's finishing skills ;)
You had me at “Rolesaurus Rex 🦖 “ 😆
I audibly laughed, and am still laughing every time I think about it, hahaha
A fascinating review. I adore the big date windows of this brand and I loved the way you correctly surmised that most of us cannot read the incredibly detailed sub-dials of complications. I also don't have a spare £300K but if I did this would be on my shopping list. Though personally I'd lose the moon phase complication and show the tourbillon instead simply as they are mesmerising to watch. I have one on a skeleton movement and its great to watch.
A. Lange & Sohne should make a perpetual calendar chronograph tourbillon
It's time Lange released a Mr. Talking Hands Limited Edition.
This channel is actually owned by langes parent company
@@devonellesse Ze Germans?
Being Lange &Signed, it would speak every language on the planet, and be mechanical only. Cost would be: If you ask, you can't afford it.
Would be cool if they did a Mr. Game and Watch.
Beautiful A Lange and Son watch. I prefer the tourbillon in the back because it keeps the dial beautiful without a hole.
Such a minimal face, so much info. This is why first time I learnt of A Lange, I knew I know nothing!
What a stunning watch, every detail from every angle. Thank you for sharing.
6:24
Oh my god
That's just... art
PLEASE try to do a video on the new A. Lange & Sohne Cabaret tourbillon Handwerskunst. Holy crap it looks incredible.
I can see why Patek and AP fear A Lange.. Simply stunning how the Germans craft watches.
Lange belongs to the Swiss company Richemond Sa...sorry..hehe..Like RR belongs to BMW and Bentley to VW, Aston Martin and Jaguar to Ford...
Patek doesn’t fear Lange really, they make watches for vastly different people. Patek has always stayed in its own lane and done its own thing. It very much doesn’t care about what other companies do, it was there at the birth of the wrist watch and will be there if it ever dies.
Patek fearing A Lange, yes. AP, no.
How the heck you don't have millions of subscribers? You deserve it chap!
Always funny and informative. Keep it up.

A great watch and a great review. I watched it with a big smile on my face. Thank you for cheering me up.
What I particularly like about this watch, besides its incredible features, is that it’s not flashy and not easily recognizable like say a Rolex. This means you can wear it without drawing attention to yourself as one whose wearing a watch valued at more than most people’s homes. I think I should clarify, “you can wear”, that I mean unlike myself I referring to someone whose crazy wealthy.
If you wear a watch like this you peob arent anywhere close to a group thay will rob you for it
Stunning watch with amazing engineering explained, as always, with concise detail and articulation that would put some Shakespearean actors to shame. The camera work was exemplary, as we have to come to expect, but I particularly liked the shot of the back in which the light is gradually reduced, to cast beautiful shadows and allow the gold to really pop.
LANGE 1 PERPETUAL CALENDARPink gold with dial in grey

This model was introduced in 2021. The dial is crafted from solid silver. The hands are made of pink gold. The hour and minute hands are luminous.

All of your videos are satisfying to watch. Subscribed, thank you!
I'll never be able to afford this watch, but what a masterpiece!!! Hopefully one day I'll be able to own a Lange 1 in one form or another, as it is my grail watch, but today is not that day. And tomorrow doesn't look good either. But I can dream, can't I? 😁
😎
My girlfriend asked my why are watches so expensive. I showed her this video and she simply nodded. Thank you and keep up the excellent reviews.
@Davide A. Visconti Borghese lol. Luckily for me, she's not massively into watches, but she does now appreciate how and why they can be so expensive.
"What's that sound? That's you mind being blown". Incredible as always. Keep it up Mr. Talking Hands
A date complication in most watches can only be seen by "a bird of prey with binoculars"...OMG, so true! Why oh why do watch designers insist on such tiny windows? I really dig the sharp humor of Mr. Talking Hands.
Absolutely stunning as we have come to expect from AL&S! 😍
Btw could you cover some of Nord's watches (Zeitmaschine, etc) & Cyrus Klepcys??
During a visit at a Lange and Sohn show i met some watchmakers working there. At the question why they worked for Lange they told me they have the freedom to have their own ideas and just go ahead. And it shows here, new complication and new materials in a still classic looking watch.
We have finally got a glimpse of the mystery face at 4:41
Good catch!
It was more clearly visible in a video with 3 chronographs that are cheaper than they seem in the JLC watch.
How many of us replayed the video at the specified time index? :)))
A tour de force of watch engineering, design and execution! But does one become a happier calmer gentler person wearing this compared to a Saxonia Thin 37 millimeter?
Yes.
I do think so
Happier and gentler but definitely not calmer.

What is the camera and light setup for these videos they look great
So hypnotic and dreamy...until you mention the 300K price tag
One of the most enjoyable, informative, candid and genuinely comical narrations I've heard in any horology channel. Thanks for the sub dial laughs :)
This isnt something you need its something to be blown away by and to marvel at the engineers who put this together !
Thanks for sharing such an incredible watch. Without you making videos about watches like this, I wouldn't know there are watches that I'll never be able to afford. But, that's not a bad thing.
Amazing
The first annual calendar automatic
Incredible finishing
Tanks to show us
It looks very classy and elegant. Younger me wanted it all iced out, older me wants something that doesn't overstate itself. Much like how I've grown.
This is such a beautiful watch. Masterpiece.
My favorite this year's video
Pawn shop guy: best I can do is $35 and I'm taking a risk at that.
Well that is a beautiful work of art, and beautifully described. There is just one thing I didn't like, and that was the way you mangled the company's name.
A. Lange & Soehne is a name A. Lange and sons we would say in English. Lange would pronounced Lung-eh like a lung with an ehh and Soehne pronounced like sern-eh.
That's a dumb comment. The relegation of the hours and hands etc. was pretty common practice back when pocket watches were the norm and wristwatches were a novelty reserved for aristocratic ladies. This became less popular as the initial fashion for wristwatches were much smaller, with 30-33mm being considered medium for a gentleman's wristwatch, 34-36 being large and 37+ being only reserved for "tool watches" unfit for formal wear.
The Lange design harks back to that traditional pocketwatch face for their larger watches, they are actually fairly traditional dial configurations.
They love you over there. Enough to post this video on their LinkedIn page. That's definitely something.
Terrific. I also appreciated the Pentax Spotmatic.
Great job as always!
Terrific watch, this does everything that I would expect a great watch to do, and more. I'd love to one day own one. However, at the price that you have quoted, this is not ever going to happen unless, I win the lottery. Thanks for compiling and sharing. DM.
I want one - and every household SHOULD have one !!!
As for the “Bird of Prey with Binoculars” comment - I STILL haven’t recovered 😂😂😂😂😂😂….
Excellent video - up there with the best you’ve EVER made 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
What a stunning piece of engineering. Outstanding.
Jesus, ALS is beyond watchmaking now, they're just magicians and wizards!
Superb watch from the best watch company, great video and the exhibition case back is brilliant with the German silver , thanks
The "Yep, subdials" at 5:50 is killing me every time
Such a beauty! I saw the salmon dial L1 PC a few days ago and it was drop dead gorgeous! Finally one can put a face to Mr Talking Hands - a befitting watch to show a glimpse of the legend himself 😁
Is the Salmon dial the one which he showcased in the Datograph PC Tourbillion video? That's also worth 330k
@@sushimshah2896oh..dont think so. I was referring to the normal Lange 1 perpetual calendar that was launched earlier this year. I think it is limited to 150 pieces. It’s listed on the ALS website if you like to have a look.
@@user-co9di2vs9v No, what I was trying to ask is whether the "Salmon Dial" is the same colour/finish as seen on this (it's the complete opposite with 3 layers of sub-dials😂 but beautiful nonetheless)-
ruclips.net/video/7RnQ92kcbLk/видео.html
I know that the Lange1 & Datograph are different lines so inherently their dials would look different in terms of the arrangement, hands, etc.
Btw I can only have a look & admire, that's all (am a student rn). Don't see myself getting anywhere close to even buying a $20k watch in the next 20 years, let alone something that costs >10x as much!
@@sushimshah2896 likewise brother. I can only ogle at shop windows 😂 Luckily the sales person at the ALS boutique was a really friendly lady who even when I told I dont have money for even the cheapest ALS patiently showed and let me try on many models including the limited edt PC and triple slit. I have hears similar reviews for ALS boutiques in other places so you could just go and try some watches. Its nice to feel a >$100k watch on your wrist 😊
04:18 what’s that sound? that’s your mind being blown.

did you record this in march?
Unbelievable and I don't just mean the watch. It's Mr Hand's giving us the tour that befits how amazing the watch is.
Beautiful watch.
Thanks for showing 👍
Another fantastic video. This channel is the best and ALS… 😍
I love the *YES* meme so much
Edit: Rolesaurus rex. This guy throws insults like 👌
Btw what a beauty it is.
The Rolesorus Rex 😂👏👏
A truly beautiful piece
So what is the marker at the 6 o’clock position. Does the 4 stand for April?
Leap year
Rolesaurus Rex! :D
This watch is incredible. At this price I would rather have this than an RM tbh.
go for RM. You aren't really the target segment of A&S
Thought I’d point out the typo in the title of the video. You clearly mean £3,000. Right? RIGHT?!
Simple the unique flawless watch brand . Years ahead of the rest .
The fact $300,000 watches exist kinda makes me feel ill ngl
Why? It at least creates jobs. I'm sure a lot of people had to work very hard to engineer and build this. That is a good thing. Sure, it is a bit of a status symbol and it could be said that the money could help some starving children in africa or whatever, but the money being spent is better for the world than it just sitting in a rich guy's bank account
This is the first time I find a watch which hide Tourbillon under the dial.😎
Did I miss the explanation of what the number in the little triangular window at the six o’clock 🕕 position indicates?
The year in the 4 year cycle.
Man!!! A. Lange & Sohne do absolutely amazing work!!! BEAUTIFUL!!!
That may be the most gorgeous watch I've ever seen, all things considered.
I thought this was going to be about the new Cabaret Tourbillon. Now I’m wondering how many other 300K watches ALS makes 😂.
They do the Datagraph tourbillon at $299;800 in platinum just $200 shy of 300k but a nicer looking watch than this one
7:32 rollersaurus rex lmao 🤣
You would need 2 hung together back & front just to admire the incredible workmanship.
Great review loved the little asides, thanks Andrew
6:22 just when your mind has been blown. There’s a second extreme wave. WOW!
Yeah, it is stunning!!!
So beautiful I could weep. And the date, out there so BIG and blunt, the punk factor!
Wao!!!what a design and elegant craftsmanship 👌
Is that camera the Pentax K1000?
I'm dissapointed that there is no mention of how it shows the date of the month as I'd like to know how that is done. I'm assuming it's just a tape in an endless loop, but I would like to know for sure.
What is your opinion on Gevril watches ?
the diamond from the side when its mentioned or within a few seconds of being mentioned and shown looks like it has a wolf head inside, sort of like the pink panther movie diamond was supposed to have a pink panther in the diamond
how does it handle daylight savings time, for those places that use it?
This may be my new favourite watch ever
2:06 lol what’s going on with the print quality of the date
Probably best watch ever made.. Brilliant
That was one of the funniest ones you've ever done. What a watch!
