My tip : explore grains and flours in Asian indian grocery stores. There are many different kinds of frozen vegan foods in store too. Like steamed IDLI, SAMOSA, VADA, SAMBHAR, VEGETABLE BURGER PATTY, VEGETABLE KEBAB, ALOO TIKKI, AND THERE ARE LOTS N LOTA OF SNACKS plantain chips, rice crackers, spicy noodles, papad crisps, tapioca chips, and many flavors of pickles in oil. Patel brothers store has all good quality foods.
Some brand names to try are
    DEEP : FROZEN FOODS
    SWAD :GRAINS AND LENTILS
    HALDIRAM: FROZEN FOODS
    DAWAAT RICE
MOTHER'S RECEIPE : PICKLES IN OIL

yesss this is such a good point. a lot of people tend to disregard non american cuisine when going for alternative diet options and that makes it so much harder to find a variety in food choice. adding different cultures foods to your pallet provides much more volume to your options.

I feel in addition to writing down things you already eat that are “accidentally vegan”, to also write down your new vegan recipes that you try so you never forget all the great things you can make. I find myself eating the same thing or thinking “d*mn, what do I eat?!” Because I forget all these great dishes I’ve made. If you write it down (like your own personal menu) it makes it easier on you when your shopping or just got off work and want something tasty but don’t want to think too much about it...
I haven’t done it yet, but I’m sure it works.

We ate lots of the same foods for years! Until I started watching homestead videos and the homesteaders have cooking videos, it was mostly cheese, meat, and milk. My kids loved watching those cooking videos, eventually my husband had enough and he complained about the cheese videos, I said, enough, let's watch some vegan recipes and I was blown away by the awesome vegan channels such as make it dairy free, rainbow plant life, Avante Garde vegan are my favorite, also like Liv B, edgy veg, and followed many more and now I have so many recipes, I even started baking

I was vegetarian for 5-6 years then one day, January 23, 2003 I decided to go vegan. I find it easy. At first my meals were boring and lacking, but I became enthralled with nutrition and soon became confident that I was getting everything I needed. It’s also nice being able to quell any concerns from friends or family about my health. The hardest things for me is the haters and nasty commercials that my friends drool over

Does your diet rely on store-bought plant based meat and other store bought plant based products? I try to go vegan (still can't exclude dairy completely) and what I experience is anxiety that I can't get enough satisfaction from vegan meals even though I try to use plenty of beans, lentils and tofu and thus top every meal with something unhealthy (mostly sweet and made of flour). There's no way back, but now I am so much afraid that I will end up with poor health not because of lack of protein or nutrients, but because of extra processed plant-based store bought products I would finally go for lacking satisfaction from food made of whole ingredients. I would really appreciate some shared experience from the one who has been vegan for 18 years!

I have been at this for 7 years now, after first trying to be vegan many years ago and going back to being a vegetarian(who no longer bought leather, wool, tallow soap, etc.). Nowadays, it's really easy. I barely think about my consumption choices because they are automatic after a couple of beginning years of reading all product labels and looking things up online diligently. It's a practice, veganism is a practice like Buddhism is a practice; it's a lifestyle you never perfect but which you are always striving to do better at. Good tips here, MIDF Fam. Happy New Year, and TFP : )

However, in 2020 I tried tofu in different ways and finally found that smashing it like mashed potatoes really helps tofu suck up the soup/sauce/spices I am cooking in. I taste less of tofu. I found watching content with vegan product tests and recipes on RUclips (yours are my favorite 👏👏👏) to be a game changer. You can waste a lot of money trying vegan options on your own - because when a vegan product is bad, it can be so awful that it goes straight in the trash.
That said, any plans for a best and worst of 2020? That would be super fun to see.

i have always worried about nutrient content and have watch so many beginners guides i have lost count months ago.
the best advice i have found only in dribs and drabs is .... consume ...
1/2 plate of greens like broccoli, cauilflower, cabbage, lettuce, kale or spinach
1/4 plate carbs, meaning starchy veg like potatoes (inc sweet) or rice, barley, quinoa ect.
1/4 plate of protein eg beans, lentils, tofu or Tex veg protiens
    snack on nuts and fruit
more info like this would be so helpfull xx i am no expert and 8 months in still struggle with the basics like above

I am at the start point of my vegan journey.
I live in Kazakhstan and some people here assume “vegans are enemies of Kazakhs”, because the majority of food is some bread-stuff and meat (historical reasons actually!). There are no “no-meat” options at some places and little to no veggies present at the table (maybe it’s the problem of my family). So I feel somehow overwhelmed my that notion
Loved these tips, thank you 💖

I did that with miso soup!! I made it and started drinking it. It tasted fishy but I brushed that feeling off. 1/4 way through drinking my miso soup, I read ingredients and it had a fish-based ingredient in it.

Jackfruit was one of my dinner/lunch menus when I was still in the Philippines 19yrs ago. My grandma (i believe she's the one that makes em) adds some dried fish and a little fish sauce for saviory (not our ingredients lol).
Basically a cocomilk savory jackfruit (close to ripe/unripe. In between the two) with onions, hint of garlic. Yup I think thats the giest of the menu without the dried fish and fish sauce. Could even be a: cocomilk curry jackfruit since I love curry and cocomilk in one bowl.
Hmm.. actually... thinking bout it now.. there are many ways to make a lunch/dinner jackfruit menu. Jackfruit salad! Forgot where I had that.. but it was semi ceviche style jackfruit salad (I'm sure the jackfruit was boiled/blanch/cooked with cocomilk), red onions, lemon, cocomilk, cherry tomatoes, salt&pep.

Love this video! Got a question though: I used to be vegetarian and now I feel like going vegan. This said, I am very worried about getting all my vitamins as I don't eat a lot. Being a woman over 50, I also worry about calcium. I am not the type to count calories and stuff, so I would like to know if you also take multivitamins or if you would have resources to share. Thank you for your enthousiasm... it's contagious!

Thanks so much for watching! We're glad the video is helpful. For the most part we eat a very balanced diet and don't worry about it much. That being said we do take a multivitamin and a b12 spray.

Well I did go vegan overnight. I went from standard American omnivore, meat in most meals, to vegan basically immediately. I had a few meals I made prior that I had saved that I ate. I'm also very aware this is extremely abnormal. I came to it via ethical conviction and it was strong. I had been convinced it was right, but when it clicked, there was no way I could continue.
I'm watching this to assist my wife who is currently taking the slow transition route. A lot of good tips in here. My wife is a very picky eater and I wasn't. That made a big difference.

You guys are hilarious! I love it. My son and I have dairy sensitivity/allergies and thank God he Loves fruit and veg. I could fry up some bell pepper, onion, zucchini and squash in a little olive oil and we would eat that as his meal. He is two years old by the way!!!!! I want to be healthier and eat more like him. And honestly some alot of the research I have done, being Dairy free is the closest thing to being vegan without actually giving up meat. I would like to one day have half of all our meals be vegan. Idk if I can go full vegan, but I also haven't started yet. Also, Mushrooms are disgusting and I'm allergic anyways.

Thank you so much for pointing out, that becoming a vegan can take a long time. Especially for some of us, who have a lot of food allergies. I'm still eating organic eggs and organic milk, and I hope to get to the vegan nirvana at some point. It is very important to me ❤, for the reverence of other lives, spiritually, emotionally, and physiologically. Thanks for the inspiration. ☺

We know that fruits always taste great, but veggies sometimes need help. Magic Ingredient: Tahini Dressing... Tahini 1:1 or 2:1 w/water. Stir until smooth. Add lemon and/or lime, garlic and salt to taste. Great for brassicas & other veggies. Add to wraps for great flavor

I’m starting today! I’m so excited, honestly most other meats I don’t really eat but the biggest one is chicken. Is there a substitute you guys have for replacing chicken?

    • @MakeItDairyFree
      @MakeItDairyFree  3 года назад

You totally got this! It really depends on what you are making and if you are ok with processed vegan meat subs. Chickpeas, jackfruit and seitan are more natural subs. But you can do vegan chicken nuggets or vegan grilled chicken strips (gardein or daring brand)
