Ive noticed something, he does a LOT of talking but someone else is always ends up doing the work. Smart management skills right there. :)
Brochure or tech card
Of course it's easier to pay someone when u got tons of cash than know urself. It's easy to read a br
Got catfished into this video saying all that power for $1,000 😂😂
Hands down! I have been working on internal combustion engine for over twenty years now and I’ve seen the insides of a lot of of them and that sludge is from lack of oil change 100%! I don’t care what anyone says!
Even if its a bad pcv valve or bad oil rings or leaking valve seals
Agreed 100%
Clearly from oil. Anyone who says that's from overheating has never worked on an engine in their lives.
It's not a 1000$ build if you have a pile of leftovers from 20 cars that you had to pay or trade for parts. I've got no money in my drift car because I sell Mercedes parts but it would cost a small fortune to buy all the parts.
@John P did you just say na and boost
@John P nvm i understand i just read it again
@John P if your only making 460hp on 12 psi you must be running a small ass turbo the 5.3s can handle 1000 hp on the stock bottom end upgrade the rockers trunnions came and it can be a reliable 1000hp car
@@thenotoriousnova1102 reliably? 1000hp on a stock bottom end? Where’s all your videos at homie?
@@Lokomart yes stock bottom end if its 07 and up they have forged crankshaft and rods they can handle 1000 hp only thing that sets em back is the trunnions and cam
Not overheating. No oil changes. I had a 69 Ford Galaxy with a 390 that never had a oil change in 20 years. Bought it from a 80 year old man the original owner. When I pulled the covers off it has sludge so thick the rockets had groves in the sludge. Engine ran fine.
I saw an old. Ford motor like that and you could see the Ford script in the oil jello mold.🤣 still running though.
I died when Ben dropped the pushrod, said 5 second rule and stuck it back in. 😂
Not gonna ruin a pushrod or bend it
Officer: Sir have you been drinking
Doc: no just my truck
Officer: well you were going a little fast back there
Doc: yeah the truck is a heavy drinker
uR Fluid tried to hard
Rewatching this in 2024 and im geeking, these vids are hilarious 😂 also super cool to see how far you’ve come to today
I just upgraded from a 4.8 to a 6.2 0.20 over pistons, aglin lifters, btr stage 2 turbo cam with dual springs, lsx intake, 92mm tb and a big turbo
Phil I just saw your reply from yesterday u got a good point about both having a stock block. Good luck to both of you racing.
Great video !! But we need more Ryan, wes & Brad participating in the fun, you need a ls nasty Christmas/ new years party @ the shop with brad grilling & Phil dressed as Santa
John The whistles go
WOOWOOOOO. And everybody should be up already cooking breakfast in the morning.
You guys are great! New sub!
I am looking forward to seeing how this build does. I am a Holley guy. I just got my Holley 105mm TB 112-591 along with my new black Holley billet elbow 300-253. My 598 f3-130 bbc on a real mild tune made 2200 rwhp. I am getting ready to build my first V30 128 vortech powered LSX 482.
John Doc the cleanest hands on RUclips, lol
Looks good cant wait to see the colorado running you using a 10* reamer for the knuckles off the crown vic? I been debating doing that swap to mine
Ben is so right! And yesssss to polished valve covers!!!
WTG Ben! 5 second rule on the pushrod! 😂
John: oh new water pump maybe it overheated
Everyone who became an ls engine expert 2 hours ago: actually sir it clearly reached 500°.
I had a mercury once that was losing water and was going home in the freezing cold . It started steaming with 1 mile to go home and i wasnt about to get out and walk. We made it home but it cooked the oil. So it was solidified and chunky like those heads. I pulled the valve covers and it took a spoon to dig the oil chunks from around the rockers. It ruined the engine, the valves knocked from that point so it went to the salvage.
I’ve seen a Ford motor that after removing the valve covers the cooked oil completely filled the valve cover to where it said FORD in the gelled oil.
I have An 01 Silverado 1500 LS pickup
now It is 1 Owner Over 300k Miles on the Motor but I think is Time For an Upgrade .....What are Your Recommendation Should I Keep the 5.3 and Have Built ? And if So What Is Everything I need As Far as For Engine Components......
My other Question is ! ? What Year 6.0 Will Fit My Truck and What’s All I need to Make a Swap if Going that Route .... Should I go with LS1 or LS3 what’s The Difference on these 2 and I’m Looking for A Powerful reliable Engine as well on a Budget
Didn’t realize LS head bolts could be reused after being torqued considering they are torque to yield bolts
As long as the engine didn’t get turned on I believe. Someone correct me if I’m wrong
arp can
Single use.................new ones every rebuild.
Dude the fact that you acknowledged the comments about interrupting Ben is awesome. now just keep up the great content bc that was strictly constructive criticism 🤙🏼
Is the way yall checked push rod length for real or yall playing
Why did you mill the heads? To square the mating surfaces, it to increase squish?
Just wondering. How come you want to put the hex bolts for the throttle body as opposed to regular 6 points? New to drag racing/ building engines
$1k build as he proceeds to put a $3k + intake and Efi setup..
Yes. What brand is that water pump ?
How do you feel about prochargers for high hp ls we are in the process of building an x275 car and we are new to boosted stuff I know there is less work on prochargers when it comes to fabrication but I am worried about the strain on the crank it does have a callies dragon slayer crank
Good job on putting assembly lube on those rocker arms nubes
John, what's the best way to get a hold of you? Got some car ideas I want to share with you.
Wont a loose chain like that mess with valve events?
That's definitely a combination of both, but the major culprit is lack of oil change oil changes much later than they should've.
Best channel ever
John doc how are you using that ford throttle body on a LS with no IAC motor. Reason im asking is i have same set up and curious how to make it work.
Def want a water pump, since you said yall were wanting to make this truck a drag week/race week build...
With hi miles there always hard as a rock. You guys know this.
How tall is the super vic with holley elbow from the valley cover? Thanks
Just wondering how long will that motor last if all stock
That's from lack of oil change. I bought a 1981 buick LeSabre 400$ never overheated, I pulled the valve cover and it had tar build up. Still never overheated when I drove it. Lack of oil change.
I'm not saying it's what happened to the oil, but cheap valve springs can actually get super hot when overworked. A spring that is not up to the task of a prolonged high rpm application can reach 500 degrees no problem.
you can build your own electric degrees tank with a 55 gallon drum and cleaner fluid and a battery charger
John doc do you always use ls7 lifters?
So informative
1000 horse ALL DAY LONG !!!!!!!!! Hell yeah BUDDY !
what is a vehicle position sensor ? do u need one of those?
Where are yall located I would like to get 6.0 upgraded
What’s the part number to that pan , pick up tube and windage tray
Just curious what the cost would be to build that motor if you don't have friends with all those parts laying around? What would the cost be if you bought all the parts used?
Yeah I think you need a Chrome everything that you can that would be pretty funny I think it adds hundred more horsepower
What's up with the Nova wagon in the corner of the lot? Is it for sale?
Just seen the Mitchell farms hoodie they are out my way! Where are y’all located?
Im need one to go in a big rim car
Used head bolts. Used head gaskets. Used timing chain looser than....... When this thing blows up. You seen it coming
chuck thomas ls timing chains always got that kind of play unless running dampener but it would make since to much for a simpleton to under stand that one side is tight the side you pull from the other has slack the side you don’t pull from
@@AdamShull22 that might be if it blows while accelerating, what do you think happens when you chop the throttle? Use common sense man.
Yeah it's a 8 or 10 penny finish nail for the shifter rail
im guessing 750-800 before the big bang. either way gunna be a good video.
Not doing oil changes will do that to your oil. It breaks down and eventually burns the oil. Ive seen it on a coworkers grand Cherokee where she had 50,000 miles and never once had the oil changed.
Do you guys have anything on the LQ9 Escalade engine?
y'all think you could make one of these engines 717whp for 5k? LS7 LS9 LT4 or the LSX
FYI LS7 lifters have .200 plunger travel . LS rocker bolts are .078 per 1 turn with 1.7 rockers. BTW any cam with .600 plus lift will need roller tip rockers. You will wipe out those trunnion upgrades without roller tip rockers eventually....
That was from lack of Maintenance that was from possibly running some low coolant running cheap oil filters and run into cheap paraffin based all engine oil like they sell at the corner store. Or running Pennzoil for Quaker State both of those are some very cheap oils.
Who makes that water pump
Ppl are going to say Those heads are not stock! They are the same thing as aftermarket heads! Because they’ve had a valve job and been milled .005 and because I say so and I am butthurt about the fastest stock 5.3 block. They probably won’t say that last part but for sure the first part.
So you don't have to gap the rings?
I would say Oil Never Changed Ex Leased Truck, Thanks for making my Keyboard a carrot catcher.
Anybody who knows about LS powered GM vans knows, the heat that is held in that dog house causes that slop to form in just about every one of them over 150k miles. Most times those vans were company vehicles and maintained regularly, but cheaply. The recycled Quickie lube oil doesn't hold up well in the underhood temps of those vans. I doubt it was overheated at all. Chances are it just got used up, traded in and nobody wanted to sell a van with high miles, so off to auction it went and ended up at the recycler. Run it! Like Ben said, it'll probably run forever.
One side of nitrous plate for gas to start it then the other side for fuel enrichment.
How do u make that much power for that cheap leave all the info in the description so I can build one
Buy a gen 4 engine, gap the rings, any 224/228 cam, valve springs, 25lbs of boost. Put it in a 3000lbs car, boom 8 second car. Sloppy mechanics did a 8s build for 8k.
What rods and crank and pistons are in that 6.0 are they factory and if so how long would that last on alcohol.
My 5.3 with factory rods and pistons on e85 lasted a couple years. Still perfect with 22 psi when I spun a rod bearing due to my own mistake not resizing the rods.
But you guys got a lot of stuff for free right or at least in trade? So it's not like you had to start with an empty engine stand and $1,000 in your pocket and come up with a thousand horsepower engine on the stand, is that correct? Because I would love to do it, I got a thousand bucks and an empty engine stand so yeah I would love a thousand horsepower engine on it !! Awesome video and build can't wait to see how it turns out, thanks guys 👍🏻
Shouldn’t all the bolts be torqued down to a certain pound, when building engines, or is it just tighten down to about just a turn? Trying to learn so I can attempt to build my own?
I've been building motors for 30 plus years and I don't use a torque wrench except for head bolts and crank bolts. After a while you get the feel of what it is.
People who never build motors think that yeah, main caps and heads get torqued everything else zipped on with a 3/8 impact
john why you get all messed up over comments just it will be fine and by the way and hope you marry Christmas to ya
I'm dying over here waiting to see this engine fire up and do some pulls I am looking forward to it especially using used head gasket and smoothing out the damaged cam this is going to be awesome come on Jon Doc fire it up already
Still using the wife’s phone but your right it was a lack of oil change but it looks like it’s bn a little hot but it can’t really run hot all the time but you did see where stop leak was in there so that’s why I’m skeptical but hey long as you can gap Phil that’s all that matters lol We’re gonna keep bashing on Phil and he’s gonna come out swinging, throw the stick bottom end out the window and build a massive engine and just put the gap on everything lol Can’t wait to see this thing blasting down the track💯
Cross thread better than no thread. Best locktite they make lol
How much did you mill the 317 heads?
I mean do people not realize water pumps take a shit from time to time. Change em on trucks all the time.
Yeah they usually leak out of the little weep hole but still work fine
@@bcd2107 yeah we never see a overheating issue with them. Just don't like leaving puddles in customers driveways and stuff. So they leak ..... they gone lol
@@bcd2107 NOT! The weep hole is your warning that this water pump is not going to live much longer! Deal with this right away. Ask me how I know!
@@BAMotorsports The weep hole serves a purpose. Its a early warning.
@@ag3nto578 indeed it does. That is why I change them when I see one leaking lol. Other people seem to think it's fine lol
So what would u sell one of these cxxx engines for????
to me it looks like lack of oil change with some over heating issues!!
so how much was that intake?
Why would you run that timing chain i dont get ?
Where is phil and the fuel tech. I wanna give him the gap
They didn't put the cam on the base circle to adjust the valvetrain
It might run fine and last a long time... but not knowing the history, mileage etc, I always pull the caps and check bearings. There is a reason the van was in a junk yard and with transmission out already, most likely the engine or trans was the issue. The oil like that couldn't have been good for the bearings. Then again if I had someone else doing the install/removal, why not take a chance lol
gd1996 it was totaled beyond repair🤦🏻♂️
Let me come over to get some help to throw some parts in my car I want a 1000hp or a little more in a ls1 5.7 gen3 corvette
You're gonna be well short of 1K at the crank going this way. We took a 144K 5.3 out of a junk Yukon Looked at one rod and one main bearing used the stock accessories and added one ebay 76 mm turbo and came off the trailer at 10 psi and did a 6.30 did nothing else but tune her to run a best 18 months and 400 plus passes later at 5.60 and 24 lbs when we finally lost a piston from a aeromotive fuel pump that didn't live up to it's advertised potential.Pure junkyard stock we did use the Magasquirt that was new at 1300.00.
I also plan in getting a yunkyard 6.0 and only rebuilding to top end for my first ls budget swap. How do I chose a good junkyard ls? I don’t want to buy one and end up having to rebuild everything.
I see that Mitchell farms hoodie.. eastern NC right
what? no lube on the pushrod ends?
What's the new purple egg mattress
Running at 500° with no oil change for four years, that’s a good engine
I'm pretty sure the cam should be on it's base circle to set each bank of rockers.
doesn't matter with hydraulic lifters . its not a lash adjustment, just a torque setting as long as the correct length push rods are used.
I'm building my own turbo 6.0L 4L80 swap on my shortbed Silverado... I will tell u this it cost waaaat more than a thousand to safely make 1000hp. Machinist bill alone was $1200. U need lower end bearings, a cam, valve springs, lifters, new piston rings and gapped to correct spacing. Really a port and polish is recommended too.
Just a crankshaft I want is 1200 bucks.
@@sethh8892 just use stock crank they will take well over 1000hp
I can't believe none of you guys are not going to the big race Saturday! Do you not race any no prep events John? You know if you're going to go after Billy the kid your going to have to go to the streets or a no prep event! No glued down track there! 🦅🇺🇸🦅
He scared! He has nothing for billy.
@@fourwheelerjock on the streets I would agree but at a well prep track his f body when done will definitely be capable of beating Billy but the driver has to be as good as the car! 🦅🇺🇸🦅
@@RustyWells2 John struggles to get his shit to hook on a well prepped track. Billy's truck hooks on gravel. And besides, no one cares about prepped track racing.
@@fourwheelerjock Billy's truck didn't hook tonight in the biggest no prep race of the year in North Carolina! 🦅🇺🇸🦅
@@RustyWells2 he had a great race on friday night and won. And made it two rounds and the truck was flying. Just turned it up a little to much. You cant say that truck doesnt hook 90% of the time.
What are the cam specs
I like the valve adjustment. Lol
Yeah, no kidding... lol This is how NOT to tighten your rockers!
Man that thing is gonna lift off Phil’s wig in reverse
u gonna paint block and shine heads
It's pretty cool I happen to stumble upon your channel. I am also building a 1st gen standard cab Colorado and I'm building an LQ4 with new Ls2 flat top pistons , reconditioned gen 4 rods , balanced and polished crank , Clevite H series rod and main race bearings , BTR LS7 head gaskets , LS3 821 ported and polished heads BTR
.660 springs with LS3 rocker arms with the trunion upgrade. BTR LS3 stage 4 nationally aspirated cam. I'm running a small block.chevy electric water pump with the adapters to work on LS motors. I just got to the part in this video where you talked about the same intake I'm going with. going with the Super Victor but I still need to order that along with a carb. I haven't yet decided what carb or cfm I'm going to run. Maybe you guys can help me make that's decision. I have two rear ends . I have a 8.8 that's I cut down to 44" with no tube ends welded on . I have a 9" housing and center section that full length with an extra set of gears. I'm probably going to go with the 8.8 for now due to the fact that parts are a lot cheaper and the 8.8 is lighter and will hold up just as good by welding the tube and running bracing . I have been asking around about my set up and what I'm looking to do over what gears I should run and everyone is telling me 411 and bigger. I'm also trying to decide whether to go with a 2speed powerglide or go with a 3 speed Tutbo 400. My truck will be strictly an 1/8th mile drag truck. I plan on going with a tube back half 4 link adjustable coilover set up to run big or small tires. I'm looking to convert my steering from power to manual rack and pinion. I'm looking at swapping an S10 manual rack and pinion set up into my Colorado. I'm also running adjustable coilover up front. I have stripped all metal not needed throughout. Everything on the inside of the cab has been stripped . I have cut the front fender wells completely out which opened up the engine compartment and gave me plenty of room to run a twin turbo set up later. I am filling in the tail light openings , both door handles, the fuel filler opening, both mirror bases and the tailgate will be sold and I'm going to fabricate a lightweight one piece fixed tailgate and roll pan. The inside of the bed will be cut out and I'm going to make an aluminum bed cover that will have a hinge to allow access to the battery and fuel cell. That's what I'm planning and I'm glad I found you guys. Definitely following your build.
I might be wrong because in the video it's dark but isnt there supposed to be a timing chain guide?
Truck engines don't have them, but the cars do go figure.
Lq4 and lq9 don't have them in the truck engines.
Thanks for the reply. Learn something new everyday!
How to get a motor from u guys
