I just bought an XR1 Pro capture card device and nothing seems wrong with only when I play trough the OBS tab you can tell there's huge fps drops sometimes but when you check the recording you can't tell there fos drops because of the auto buffer setting on OBS and that seems about it. I've been seeing reviews about the Elgato HD60 X and they say it's the best capture card of 2023 and I've been hearing a lot of good stuff about the Elgato HD60 X and I'm thinking of returning the XR1 Pro and going for the Elgato HD60 X but I just don't know if it's worth the switch? I would appreciate it If anyone could tell me which one is better.
Update: This card now supports Variable Refresh Rates, so you can run Gsync/Freesync without your recordings being bugged out. Just update the firmware at EVGA's site.
@@stormedtie you can have vrr without having 120hz (fps) hdmi 2.1 is the standard for 120fps maximum. Variable refresh rate is meant to prevent screen tearing. But that type of screen tearing is also possible at lower refresh rates. Stutter can happen at literally any FPS
Just got this for $79.99 brand new on Amazon. Now they raised the price back to $99.99. Thanks for this review - I feel happy with my purchase to be able to stream Xbox series x and Nintendo switch.
Came here today to see what your thoughts were back when it launched. It's on sale for $99 so I grabbed one up! Thank you for the clear and concise review!
Just wanted to point this out. If you are using a laptop as your streaming pc you do not have to utilize the HDMI out port on the card. The card its self counts as its own display in windows on your gaming pc when not used as a passthrough. Which you can then identify as a source on OBS on both PCs.
The HDMI out is for passthrough and has nothing to do with your streaming PC. Your stream PC only will see the USB video capture. Yes, your game PC will see it as another display, but you are then limited to 120 fps 1080p.
You mentioned line noise issues in the on-screen text summary, but I don't recall you actually speaking about this issue in the video. I'm considering buying this device, but if the line noise is an issue, even if nothing is plugged in (as I read online elsewhere), then I may go with the Lite edition which has no headphone jack.
The line noise is an issue with any analog cable. It isn't the fault of the XR1, more your PC in general. Just get a ground loop isolator for 8 bucks on Amazon.
Do you have to use the Headphone Jack for your Microphone Audio to go through it?? Like would the Mic sound still travel from your Gaming console right to the PCs OBS while using USB dongle Headset to Gaming console??
The device seems almost perfect, but I wouldn't call it "budget", considering that it costs 200 EUR at this point. if you're looking for a cheap solution, you can go for any MS2130chip based capture device. Usually, comes in USB stick form with only an HDMI input, but you can get it for around 5 bucks. It supports 1080p at 60Hz and 4k at 15 Hz. The 4k limitation still works for capturing the desktop, slides or any low movement content. You can easily capture 4k 30fps to 1080p at 60 fps, though.
Hey that was an awesome informational video! Thanks so much for taking the time. Is there anyway you can show how you set up your audio for pc to pc using this XR1 pro ? I'd appreciate it! Love your content!

Does it add any latency going from your gaming PC to your gaming monitor with the pass through? I'm thinking of doing a dual PC setup and just want the easiest setup possible to get going again. I had an Elgato and did like a mirror display, so DP going to my gaming monitor and then hdmi to the capture card (at least that's what I remember) and there was no latency, but it was a pain. Thanks for the video and overview of this card.
the only problem im having is that i have a input delay and its noticeable in my fps shooters, the stream and recording is perfect but my gameplay im seeing has input delay and I can't figure out why. i use a xbox series s
It would be through OBS. Other than the software to control the RGB colors and audio level, it's just UVC device that works within various softwares that accepts plug and play video capture devices/webcams.
This is the Pro version. This was half the cost when I made this video. At 210, I'd definitely consider all options. I love it, but I would compare to Elgato and Avermedia and go with the cheapest.
So if I am using it on a laptop, to record some ps2 gameplay, as far as I know, I cannot use the hdmi out from the capture card. My question is if I can use the usb C as a video output to my laptop. I hope you guys can understand what I mean 😅
Hi Frugal, I’m using the XR1 Pro at the moment, but since I’ve introduced it to my setup I’m experiencing screen tearing. I have not noticed any frame rate issues. I have an NVIDIA gpu and gsync monitor. (I did not have screen tearing when using the display port) thoughts?
I want this... I have a question tho Hopefully you can answer. I want my passthrough set at 1440p 144.... it does record at 1080p While keeping that output correct?
Yep. Theoretically, it will go up to 165Hz, its just not published. This is my current setup. 1440/144Hz passthrough, 1440p/60Hz recording. I downscale to 1080p in OBS for streaming to Twitch.
Ok I am struggling because everyone says its just plug and play. I have a dual pc setup. My recordings don't have a high refresh rate. Do I need to switch my hdmi cables for both hdmi in and out for the XR1 pro to hdmi 2.1? My current monitor gets 144hz with display port, 120 with hdmi but it's hdmi 2.0 only which doesn't seem to matter looking at other youtube video reviews on the xr1 pro, and their recordings are flawless. Mine are capped at 60 or looks like less tbh. HALP! lol
So...this card has no SD card option and forces you to use OBS; that is why I'm returning it. Better off with the avermedia 2 plus which has an sd card option and doesn't require an invasive program like obs to use.
Would this be good to use when streaming Switch live through OBS/Streamlabs in 2023? I've spent almost $200 on diffent devices and they all have latency and screen tearing just trying to get opinions
Just so you know the xr1 lite(don't know about the card in this video) is a fantastic card for switch gaming. I've never had a single issue and I've been using it for years now.
If your monitor has 100Hz at maximum over HDMI (like the Xiaomi Mi Curved one), then it's a limitation on the monitor, this particular monitor can do 144Hz only over Display Port
Well, I didn't say it was the perfect capture card. I said it was the nearly perfect USB capture card. FYI, I've had more issues with my HD 60 Pro and Cam Link Pro than this (both PCIe cards).
