You can also duplicate your display to the device and not use the pass-through. This allows for example 120Hz refresh to monitor while running card at 60Hz. Max capture rate that worked for me was 59.94.
This only works sometimes since it’s rigging it in a way that’s not designed - which can randomly tell you it can’t do it upon reboot etc. and doing it this way results in double tearing and/or frame pacing issues, which doesn’t look good
@@EposVox in my experience (which only goes back to 1997) it works 100% of the time. I’ve NEVER had a duplicate display not work. Just have to turn the capture PC on first.
One thing I'd like to see covered are "PC free" capture cards which record to something like microSD cards. These seem like a neat choice if you don't want to capture by a PC, but just record some video to edit later. The only one I've personally found that seems up to the task if the AVerMedia Live Gamer Portable 2 Plus - but you have to be willing to pay a premium, nearly double what this costs, at which point it seems like we're creeping into actual 4K capture territory.

They bumped the price up $10 since yesterday. I bought one yesterday, before the price hike. Curious to see if the hardware is improved. I tried 3 different XR1 and none of them worked. 2 would completely freeze up after just a minute or two of catpure. The third one would repeat a few frames, every second. And would consistently overheat and freeze up after about 20 minutes. Tried high quality cables. Rear USB ports. Powered USB 3.0 hub, etc. Two different computers with the third card. One Zen 2 based. One is Intel 8th Gen.

Ironically, when I got this bundled with Splatoon 3 on amazon for, like, $70 or so, I ended up using it for the same purpose Genki adertised. The audio device is passed through separately from the video, so i can just play the sound through windows and use mpv to stream the video with little if any noticeable latency. Solid little card!

Oddly enough I was able to get 1080p 120hz using a series x by running the hdmi cable included with the xbox to the input of the xr1 lite, then using a BENFEI HDMI to DisplayPort powered adapter from the passthrough on the capture card to my monitor via displayport. The Benefei adapter is only hdmi 2.0 so plugging it into the console directly doesn't expose the console to 120hz, but this workaround does. My monitor reports 120hz and the testing I've done has supported that. Kind of weird seeing as the card doesn't natively support 120hz but apparently I've found a niche workaround.

I just watched until 5:00 and this sounds like you have DSR active. None of my three monitors shows up at a higher resolution than native. Checker your NVcontrol panel or the Greenforce Experience if DSR is active. I will continue watching now ;)
Nice review and channel. I ended up buying one of these and have been testing out for full day capture. At points I've gotten moments where the signal in OBS preview goes to black and then reloads a couple seconds later with true signal - rinse and repeat 15-60 seconds later. I'm not sure if this is due to the laptop running OBS having it's busses fully loaded (work laptop, triple monitor, webcam, headset, dock, yadda) at some point something pushes it over the edge or if the XR1 is getting a bit overheated after running all day. Once it starts doing this black flashes and back to preview - it seems to just continue and both times I've had it happen - it's been after the capture device has been connected to OBS with an active signal for over 8 hours. At points it gets pretty toasty so I've taken to putting the device on it's narrow side so the top/bottom, which have more surface area are more in contact with the air

It works fine, EVGA has a tool for disabling on their site( HDCP Control for XR1 lite), otherwise You get a lovely HDCP blackscreen. It's under the support section. I ran it tru a cheap splitter dectivated HDCP on the app and presto.
It is kind of a letdown. Just got this for my laptop (PopOS), and realize there is no way to make it negotiate under USB3.0 mode (xhci_hcd driver), so the recording is limited to 720p in OBS. Other devices can run at USB3.0 normally, but only this capture card does not. That said, it works as expected with my other laptop though.
Upon recommendations of my video hosting service i.e. StreamingVideoProvider, I started using Y&H Capture Card . Though it is a budget card but gives exceptional results.
I just got this item, and I have a few questions. 1. When I plug the HDMI input into my iPad or my Macbook, it showed HDCP and is thus unable to capture anything, but it doesn't happen on my PC. I am not even running any app on my MacBook or iPad. Does all Apple device has HDCP on by default or it's the capture card overreacting? 2. When I connect it to my PC and passthrough it to my monitor, it can only output 1080p even when my monitor is 1440p, and there is no option in the display settings to change the output to 2k. Is that desired behavior? Other than the issue I mentioned above, the device works great.
Can someone tell me if the passthrough feature has actually no delay on the main screen? Might be a dumb question but I'm really sensitive to input lag, so I don't want any more added.

Depends on what you’re playing at. Series S/X can do 4k120 and 1080p120 (and 1440p) that this card cannot. If you’re playing at 1080p120 or 1440p at all, I’d recommend the Live Gamer Ultra or ASUS CU4K30

Also, as far as I know, the washed out picture you brought up might actually be because this card doesn't handle full range RGB correctly. From my experience setting it to full range RGB in OBS and the console leads to raised blacks and washed out colors, while limited range on both OBS and the console lead to more correct colors and black levels with no crush. My monitor is a bit wonky with switching from full to limited range (on my PS5 both modes display correctly while on my Xbox 360 limited range appears super washed out) so this is a problem.
I have a problem with my EVGA XR1 Lite. No matter if I have it plugged into a usb3 port and regardless of that I've tried plugging it to several usb3 ports I can not get it to display in 1080p 60fps, it is stuck in purple low quality mode. The strange thing is that I couldn't even update firmware on it via my computer because it said it wasn't plugged into usb3 port although it was. A few days ago I tried it out at a friends house and it worked perfectly fine there and with full resolution, also I was able to update firmware to the latest without any problem. I've even tried to remove all other connected peripherals and having the card connected to a usb3 port, still low quality mode. You guys have any idea what is causing this?...
Well since it worked on your friend’s computer, the card is clearly fine - so I’d start by going to the driver page for your motherboard and updating chipset and usb drivers
so I just came here because I just got my ps4 back up and running an am in the market for a cap card that will do what it claims and is very cost effective, my pc is my primary gaming/streaming rig. so ps4 is more for nostalgia, therefore, it doesn't need to be over the top and flashy. I just need it to do what its meant too that's all. thank you for the insight
Obscure question, if you're trying to capture audio/video out of a Mac, will the Mac see this as a valid audio output device? Elgato capture cards do. I have a cheaper card that works fine w/my nintendo switch, but not the macintosh. If so, this is exactly what I'm looking for! thx

I know this is silly to say. But i didnt know about it. If you plan to use this capture card for ps5 gameplay make sure you have TWO hdmi 2.1 cords!! I felt so silly for over a month and half figuring out why my gameplay look weird
Well this is only HDMI 2.0 so you only need that spec, but it does come with one in the box, so the one that came with your PS and this one are all you need
@@EposVox Yes but if you use your 2.1 hdmi from the ps5 and connect it to the capture card to display on a monitor/tv with the 2.0 hdmi that it comes it ruins some of the graphics gameplay. Also you have to turn on the hdcp on the ps5. At first i thought it was my monitor that was broken but when i use two of my 2.1 hdmi cords it went back to normal

dont get the shadowcast, it has no passthrough so you will get input delay unless you use an active hdmi splitter. You can get a product similar to the shadowcast for much cheaper, its kind of a scam. Genki is just good at marketing
I am looking for the cheapest 1080p 60fps capture card. Would this be it? You mentioned that this is also good for retro gaming. I also plan to use this on a Wii which is 480p. I tried a cheap brand but the colors were terrible. Do you think I should try the XR1 lite?
Hello, and sorry. I'm a new sub and enjoying your content. I'm slowly making my way through your videos, but I'm completely new to all of this. I'm not a complete idiot, but I am fairly illeterate when it comes to most of this stuff, though I'm trying to learn. I'm looking to get into RUclips ing, but just trying to get together the gear I'm anticipating that I'm going to need, ha, and then trying to learn how to use it. I'm not a gamer, or don't anticipate being a full time streamer, but would like the ability to live stream occasionally. Pretty simple set up of running a Canon M50 mark Ii into my Asus Zephyrus ROG M16 at 1080. I'm not sure if you already have a video covering this scenario, that I haven't gotten to yet, but I'm wondering what you would suggest to someone in my situation. I'm not opposed to spending some money if it provides portability, ease of use, and consistent reliability, but obviously simple and cheaper is preferred.
Does this capture stereo audio or not? Others have asked the question below, but I didn't see an answer. All of the cheap capture cards I've used only capture audio on 1 channel. In Windows 10 or 11, can you go into Settings - System - Sound - Properties and check the format reading for the device? I'm guessing that the device will present as a Digital Audio Interface, USB Digital Audio. The Format should be 2 channels if it captures in stereo. I have 1 on order and will cancel if it doesn't capture in stereo. Thanks.

Because it absolutely does not eliminate those issues, doesn’t work with adaptive sync or HDR, causes alt-tabbing from games to take forever among many other quirks and issues, and can add significant input latency under certain (often unpredictable) conditions
Man, I'm so glad that the can't link and the crapcards finally kicked the door of the manufacturers to make something actually damn good that doesn't cost a ton.
I'm still having the misalignment issue, have you heard of any fix yet? I've done quite a bit of troubleshooting and updated whatever firmware they have for it so far, no luck.
I've been using this with my PS5, and it actually DOES have 1080p120 passthrough, it downscales to 60hz in recording, how well it does it i have no clue
Mine worked fine for 2 days, now it requires rebooting computer to work in obs. I am only getting a flashing purple light indicating its in usb 2.0 mode even though its plugged into usb 3.0 port. Ive tried all my usb 3.0 ports and tried my phones usb c cord..... It still only flashes purple. Anyone else have this issue? Is there a firmware update? Does it require a powered usb 3.0 hub?

Obscure question, if you're trying to capture audio/video out of a Mac, will the Mac see this as a valid audio output device? Elgato capture cards do. I have a cheaper card that works fine w/my nintendo switch, but not the macintosh. If so, this is exactly what I'm looking for! thx
Bought this card on october last year after seeing this video... gotta say, worth it! but it does dip from 60fps to 30fps sometimes randomly when capturing from my ps5... maybe something is wrong in my OBS settings?

I know this is silly to say. But i didnt know about it. If you plan to use this capture card for ps5 gameplay make sure you have TWO hdmi 2.1 cords!! I felt so silly for over a month and half figuring out why my gameplay look weird
Well this is only HDMI 2.0 so you only need that spec, but it does come with one in the box, so the one that came with your PS and this one are all you need
@@EposVox Yes but if you use your 2.1 hdmi from the ps5 and connect it to the capture card to display on a monitor/tv with the 2.0 hdmi that it comes it ruins some of the graphics gameplay. Also you have to turn on the hdcp on the ps5. At first i thought it was my monitor that was broken but when i use two of my 2.1 hdmi cords it went back to normal
I just bought this on eBay for $35 dollars used. Hopefully i works great on my ps4

the xr1 lite is now 70 dollars on amazon but the normal xr1 is 130 which is a better deal imo
The normal XR1 is constantly on sale for 99, I don’t think I can recommend you pay extra when it’s regularly on sale

dont get the shadowcast, it has no passthrough so you will get input delay unless you use an active hdmi splitter. You can get a product similar to the shadowcast for much cheaper, its kind of a scam. Genki is just good at marketing

Hello, and sorry. I'm a new sub and enjoying your content. I'm slowly making my way through your videos, but I'm completely new to all of this. I'm not a complete idiot, but I am fairly illeterate when it comes to most of this stuff, though I'm trying to learn. I'm looking to get into RUclips ing, but just trying to get together the gear I'm anticipating that I'm going to need, ha, and then trying to learn how to use it. I'm not a gamer, or don't anticipate being a full time streamer, but would like the ability to live stream occasionally. Pretty simple set up of running a Canon M50 mark Ii into my Asus Zephyrus ROG M16 at 1080. I'm not sure if you already have a video covering this scenario, that I haven't gotten to yet, but I'm wondering what you would suggest to someone in my situation. I'm not opposed to spending some money if it provides portability, ease of use, and consistent reliability, but obviously simple and cheaper is preferred.

Does this capture stereo audio or not? Others have asked the question below, but I didn't see an answer. All of the cheap capture cards I've used only capture audio on 1 channel. In Windows 10 or 11, can you go into Settings - System - Sound - Properties and check the format reading for the device? I'm guessing that the device will present as a Digital Audio Interface, USB Digital Audio. The Format should be 2 channels if it captures in stereo. I have 1 on order and will cancel if it doesn't capture in stereo. Thanks.

Is there a reason no one ever talks about duplicate output on PC instead of pass through? Completely eliminates all the resolution and scaling issues.
Because it absolutely does not eliminate those issues, doesn’t work with adaptive sync or HDR, causes alt-tabbing from games to take forever among many other quirks and issues, and can add significant input latency under certain (often unpredictable) conditions

I'm betting this will Capture HDMI OUT from a "FTA" Sat Reciever just fine? There is NO NO HDCP,Copy Prot Output on these type Sat Recievers....

I've been using this with my PS5, and it actually DOES have 1080p120 passthrough, it downscales to 60hz in recording, how well it does it i have no clue
Mine worked fine for 2 days, now it requires rebooting computer to work in obs. I am only getting a flashing purple light indicating its in usb 2.0 mode even though its plugged into usb 3.0 port. Ive tried all my usb 3.0 ports and tried my phones usb c cord..... It still only flashes purple. Anyone else have this issue? Is there a firmware update? Does it require a powered usb 3.0 hub?
