- On this video , we did some Sunday documenting outside this Catholic church on the public sidewalk, before Sunday worship got underway as folks were beginning to arrive. Outside the church where people were gathering before going inside , was a nice outside patio area with a waterfall display accompanied by a nicely landscaped area with large trees and various statues of religious figure. We came around the front side to continue our recording & had drawn the attention of some of the ladies over by the makeshift coffee & refreshment stand that was set up in the patio area. I noticed one woman in particular I could hear giving a description of what we look like to whoever was on the other end of the conversation. My guess at this point was that she might have been calling for police, but i later found out she informed me she contacted other members of the congregation. Police did arrive within the next 10-15 minutes (two officers & two patrol cars). The first officer to be in contact with us stated they got a call because people were concerned that we were allegedly taking pictures of children. The woman who I noticed on the phone earlier approached the patrol car , stating their concerned & worries about our presence. The second officer who arrived as backup did a decent job in explaining to her that we were within our rights to document freely of whatever we could see from a public space (public sidewalk where we were the entire time) After police left, we had a chat with the woman & seemed to part on good terms with a mutual understanding for each other's activities.

I generally agree. However, in his defense, the vast majority of suspects he encounters self incriminate. So, he isn’t as familiar with how to act when a suspect clearly communicates that he won’t self incriminate.

Please advise these people that if someone had a nefarious intent they would probably use a hidden camera.
in reality, the camera is actually PROTECTING the children. who is going to try something with a videographer recording in real time.
If the auditors approached the "parishioners" ahead of time, about being out there recording in public, the "parishioners" would have given an unequivocal, "NO"; the "parishioners" would have pushed back and argued, would have called the police anyway, so why give anyone a heads up to carrying out a Constitutionally protected activity? You can't win with these people.

Imagine all the pictures and videos taken of kids at school sporting events with no permission slips signed.

The reason I mention the school sporting events and graduations is because the kids are being targeted for pictures and videos as opposed to a theme park where they just happen to be in the shot accidentally.

I have a child, but I can't understand why people think that children have some sort of special shield where they should not be recorded in public! Children are not exempt from public recording! And because children just happen to be in a place where public filming is happening, does not equal, "omg, they want to molest our children!". Where was that paranoia 50 plus years ago (and now!)? I think they need to be a bit more worried about the little boys in that catholic church from the inside more than anything else.
