We were on the public sidewalk the entire time taking photos & video , when we were approached by multiple members from this congregation while we were there, with one individual threatening to call the cops if we didn't leave the public sidewalk.

No one is responsible for another’s “feelings”. If someone feels uncomfortable because of a camera, they have some other issues to work on.
It’s sickening how they light up with adrenaline rush while they try to impose their power over someone. The face of a demon. Yet they are so so proud of themselves.
There’s always that one person in the congregation that dresses all over the top weird like this and wayyyyy too full of themselves. When my parents used to force me to go to this there was this one 1800s wannabe man that tried to dress all old timey down to his glasses and neckbeard. Dude made his who,e personality about that Joseph smith era LARP.
I went to high school with a couple Mormons they were nice enough people but some of what they believe is crazy.
I’ll never understand why people think they have the right to tell others what they can and cannot do in public, on a public sidewalk. Very strange sense of entitlement. 🤷♀️
It's because humans have this weird innate obsession with controlling people and telling them what to do. If you go throughout history it's full of humans that want to control people...examples...the king's of Egypt, The Roman Empire, Nazi Germany, Mao in China, Joseph Stalin and the Soviet Union, British empire, United States government, communist countries, war lords in Africa, drug cartels in Mexico and so on and so on and unfortunately it has trickled down to ordinary people themselves. Humans controlling other humans is apparently very contagious.
It's ironic Mormons show up at your house to talk to you about their religion but offended when you show up on the sidewalk of their church just standing around. Hell, you saved them lots of steps.

They, like far too many others, are so clueless they can not see that confronting and interrogating and threatening people in public who are not violating any law is not a nice thing either. But they see themselves as good people so that makes anything they do, no matter how "not nice" it is, nice.

True, there has been a rash of LDS church fires and graffiti over the last few years (so some people may be wary of anything out of the ordinary) but that has NOTHING to do with people like you in broad daylight exercising your rights. You need to look up some of the archives from the auditor Furry Potato. There wasn't a single church or denomination that he filmed that didn't try to run him out of town. He even ended up with a projectile in his leg. This is nothing new.

One thing I've learned in life is what my mom told me many, many years ago... "You catch more flies with honey than vinegar" and "Treat others as you would have them treat you". Mean people just don't know how to act when you kill them with kindness, it completely puts them off balance.

It is enjoyable to watch these with the sense of entitlement as they call the cops for help. That provides a compelling example of how effective cops are at solving problems.

Then claim that you're making their people feel uncomfortable... And on top of that... They're also demanding that you have to leave or they'll call the police to have them remove you... I have to say after watching your videos for a few months I'm very impressed by the way the majority of law enforcement in your area handle public photography. Here in TN they would never explain to a caller over the phone that what you're doing isn't illegal. The times they have sent police to check on you it seems the majority of them handle it very professionally, usually not trying to demand ID and often not even asking who you are. Here most cops believe they are supposed to demand ID from everyone they contact to write in their report and check for outstanding warrants. Most of them become quite aggressive if you explain to them you aren't breaking any laws and would like your rights to be respected. They come up with all kinds of things to try getting you to identify yourself. The most common is "I don't know what your intent is so I have to see your ID." I've asked exactly where on my ID does it tell them what my intentions are at any given time but still haven't found it. It must be some special feature that only law enforcement can see.
I had a friend who was put in handcuffs and had his wallet taken so they could run his ID. Once the information came back and he had no warrants or criminal history the cops became even more agitated and demanded to know why he was there. He said wait, you said you needed my ID to find out what I'm doing here. You threatened to arrest me if I didn't show it to you then put me in cuffs and took it from me. I've told you multiple times what I'm doing here but because that isn't something you can arrest me for you can't accept that it's true. Now take another look at my ID where you seem to think it tells you what I'm doing or exposes some ulterior motive then you tell me what ILLEGAL thing I'm doing. Otherwise let me go so I can contact an attorney and get this lawsuit for violating my rights underway.
I hope he sued for violation of rights.

As a member of a congregation who has fought for freedom of religion for 100 years and went to the Supreme Court and won 25 times, I can say you are welcome to take photos and videos inside our place. Use a phone though please as it won’t be disruptive as larger cameras are. And we are still fighting governments worldwide for these same freedoms and winning.

Unfortunately, most people will refuse to admit that their feelings do not trump the law. That is why so many cop watchers and first amendment auditors gave up on trying to educate years ago and simply play them until they call the police and let the police educate them. Even then some will argue with the police or desperately try to present a reason that they think will compel the police to enforce their feelings and ego rather than the law; and some will refuse to believe and accept it even then as the occasional revisit has proven.
Of course it took about five years of complaints and lawsuits to get the police to accept the fact that their feelings and egos and opinions do not trump the law as well. Even today there are far too many who will do anything to justify violating the law just to show auditors who the boss is.
Maybe some major celebrities or sports stars need to do a recorded message on video stating the right to video and photography out in public and have that played to them.
They're sheep after all and may respond well to that.

As a member of this church (but not this particular congregation/ward), a good way to deal with members that come out and question might be to just say that you’re “just exercising your free agency.” Glad to see that no one freaked out too badly here , but Bow Tie did make himself look like an

“Making people FEEL uncomfortable” is those most used and dangerous statement for a free and prosperous society. It’s not illegal. It’s not even a sin because it doesn’t even exist. Nobody can MAKE anyone FEEL a certain way. You’re responsible for your own feelings. If someone melts down at the sight of a camera, it’s THEIR problem and their mental illness … not the photographer’s.

Greetings, in my opinion the church is scared you will impede their tax free income.
The dimbulb in the white shirt, "You have five minutes before I call the police." So many Americans view the police as some overarching entity that can just show up and force American citizens to do whatever they want. Education for the entire American public is badly needed.
Guys preaching to others about "nice and right" while he tramples right on through the garden... The two young men who approached you before obviously had enough decency to walk around the landscape and be respectful.
