In the Us they plan on getting it all back no matter how much you save, you work 40+ years and if you take Social security at 62 they say you are "retiring early" and they penalize you, in an attempt to keep you working!!! The cost of assisted living or in home nursing help is not sustainable in the USA

I am 29 years old not retired. But have assets. I live with my wife and son in a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom house in a gated community rent is 175 dollars a month outside of Merida Mexico about 15 mins. We live good here. We don't eat out all the time and we use taxis and Idriver app for transportation. My total cost here is about 650 a month with everything. I love mexico I love the slow way of life.

And if you have 1.3 million you will have no problem here just pick a safe area. And don't show off your money. Have a great day.
@@randyparton5451 First I would get an Airbnb for about month and when you get here. Hire a realtor to show you rental houses but to be honest with 1.3 million I would just a buy a house here. You don't have to be a citizen. And just hire a lawyer that speaks English. To help you with the process.

I recently watch another RUclips channel which is called Tangerine travels his video is called Mexico shot itself in the foot ,and the gentleman said that you can no longer move to Mexico with $1,000 a month the income requirements have changed it is now 2400 to-2700 that is for temporary residency for permanent residency is 4500 to 4700 and you must show that you have had this amount in your bank account for the last six to 12 months.

You may want to check into the income requirements, things have changed in Mexico, you must have, a monthly income of 2400 to 2700 that is for temporary stay, for permanent residency you must have 4500 to 4700 of income each month. And you have to show your bank account that you have this amount in your account for at least 6 to 12 months, I was so disappointed when I found this out. Outstanding work Jerry and Lori - following up on Memo, because I very clearly remember Memo's last interview and this is very informative. It's TRUE in Mexico the people are wonderful and they do very well with the resources they have - often, it's uplifting to live with regular people - the locals - and to be connected like Memo most surely is!!!!

I wouldn't bring a Karen, but I'll bring my dogs - they'll love it there. I have stopped in Lo De Marcos in route to PV. Given our dogs, the hotel wanted too much in Lo de Marcos, so I went to P.V. and found better accommodations for less through friends. Being summer residents, we know the summer rates are cheaper - the rate was higher as they thought we'd bite..

Been there. Cheap but those towns are not looked after at all. Some look like they went through an earthquake and were never rebuilt.
Nayarite is known Cartel country as is almost all the Mexican coastline. Keep you head down and dont cause any waves and you will be fine.

I agree “outside” being the keyword. People come to Ajijic and expect to fond cheap rent etc. Ajijic has perfect climate, great restaurants, shops, bilingual ease, all of that, like in any country, means a higher cost.

He is right! If you pick a tourist city to live in Mexico, it gets really expensive. I live part time in a city on the central north part of Mexico and it’s way much cheaper. $5 a day going out to eat is true, of course it’s none of the fancy restaurants. It’s the local family food stands very natural healthy home made meals. Rent for a 3 bed house is about $300 a month plus $50 utilities a month

The problem has become the financial solvency requirements to obtain legal residency in Mexico. How is he handling that? $2500 government pension OR $45,000 in the bank for the last 12 months! And, that's just for Temporal, permanent is quite a lot more. Most retired Yanks just don't have that much. I certainly don't have either of those but I have way more than enough to live easily in Mexico. Far more than this guy is spending. Am I missing something? You can't do the border-runs anymore and most of us can't meet the financial requirements. I'm looking at Ecuador but I'd much rather live in Mexico. Help!

That's ridiculous! I have a very nice car I paid $14,000 for in 2006 and it's still a very nice car. $45,000 is a small fortune and the majority of retirees simply don't have it. I live in the US fine on much less than you suggest and Mexico is far cheaper. The financial requirements have become unreasonable. Period. But my point is, have I misunderstood something? I don't need your snarky comments about how only the rich should be allowed in Mexico! Or, apparently, anywhere, according to you.

Remember that most of those places are tourist places. Inland like he says you can live with $1000 dollars confortable. Small beautiful towns or cities you can pay $100 rent. I did it.

If you are then the cost to live in the town/s in this video are not even close to what you pay in Ajijic.(Ajijic is way more expensive, about double the cost) We want to know what this guy pays for "all" expenses as well as the other residents pay in Lo de Marcos and near by towns of 30 minutes or so. Speaking of a few expenses is not thorough and terribly mis leading to those who are looking for a place to expat to. Truthfully, it is a huge disappointment when the details are not revealed. Maybe you could move quicker in the video and if folks want to go back and view it, they can OR you could post the detailed cost of living for the town/s in of the video in the description. This may be off comment, but when I lived on PV I used to visit Lo de Marcos frequently 20-30 years ago with a friend named Lourdes who bought a small home there. Every night we went to visit Tacho and Adaleia who lived in a beach shack once owned by Peter O'Toole. Tacho's grandfather was the caretaker of the casita and as I understand it Tacho was given the house after his grandfather died. Does anyone know if they still live there, and if so perhaps how to contact them?

I have been visiting and living part time in Acapulco. I retired to Querétaro at 79. I do speak Spanish as a second language. USA is too deadly and expensive.

It's okay living on $600/mo.if you live somewhere you can actually afford to live on that. The key is shelter and diet - there's no doubt one can live well on that in Mexico. Of course, migrating to Mex. would likely require more income, but the weather is nice and no need to waste money on heating or A/C.

Thank you Gerry and Lori. I noticed one guy complaining on your presentation - he was wrong - you can migrate to Mexico in various ways - income is not the only item they evaluate.
If he spends $5 a day on food, that's $150 a month. His rent is $500 a month. His internet is $25 a month. His propane works out to $3 a month. His Netflix is $15 a month. We are now at around $700 a month. So, I'm not sure I understand the math
Look at that video one more time his housing expenses are in that $600 a month. He is updating people who want to move here and tells them they can expect to pay $500 a month for rent plus that $600 for living expenses coming to $1100 a month. We're trying to give people an updated cost. You have to remember he's been living here for over 13 years so he has found great deals they live in here. Can somebody come here and live on $600 a month he says no first of all you're gonna have $500 a month rent.
In Mexico, there's entire villages living on $3/day with a garden. It's probably just surviving, but gardens can produce all year long in a warm, sunny climate. Mango trees are HUGE and I've seen Indians eating Mangos for lunch - perhaps people are not as industrious in comfortable climates since it doesn't take a lot to live and enjoy life.
Even in Mexico to live on $600.00 USD a month is a little tight .I'm guessing he has other financial assets .He might have good savings,a wife/partner that also contributes to the relationship .If you move to Mexico buy a house all paid for and you only collect $600.00 USD per month you can make it ,you wouldn't have to pay rent.You can still make it in Mexico Off $600.00 USD per month even if yo have to pay rent ,but I would say that would be kind of tight .You would almost have to find a apartment /house that rents for $150.00 USD to $180.00 USD per month .Those rental prices are out there if you know where to look.

It's hard to find in a popular location - those low on the totem pole get pushed out. There's a lot of small towns away from the beach that would fit well on that budget though.
For $150- 250 a month, you would be "living like a Mexican". Not a darn thing wrong with that lifestyle but most Expats wont live like a native.
You can live comfortably for $1000 monthly in many small towns in Los Altos de Jalisco which most are 2 hours from Guadalajara. Towns Arandas, Tepatitlan, Lagos de Morenos, San Miguel de los Altos, San Juan de los Lagos to name a few. Average rent $250. Very sociable towns. The Plazas are great.
Thank you for that information I hope more people will look into those communities for their retirement because a lot of the Expat communities are getting so expensive. It's very difficult to live on $1000 a month around the ex-pat communities.

I was travelling in Oaxaca last year, and some of the prices there are very cheap. I suppose most foriegners want to live in areas with other foriegners, which actually drives up the prices. There are some beautiful towns in the mountians which are extremely cheap. I think in general the coastal regions are more expensive, so if I was trying to live or retire very cheap in mexico, I would definatly live more inland.

His living expenses are $1,100 per month, not $600. If you're paying rent to live somewhere, the cost of rent must be included as part of your living expenses. Also, if you're on a tight budget, don't live in Lo de Marcos if house rentals cost no less than $500 USD per month. You can find rental properties for $150 USD monthly in Mazatlán for example.

Mike if you watch that video one more time you'll see that in his living expense he includes his home. Also if you look at that video one more time he mentions for new people coming down here they're gonna have to pay more for rent today than he pays remember he's been living here for 13 years and he found a great deal. If you come to an area like this and you go door to door and ask if there are any cheap rentals you may find one. See this next video how it's done.

@México M Ignorant people who voice their advisory opinions do exist, but they're usually easy to spot. I'm 68, retired, and have been living full-time in Mexico for two years. My total COL here is about $750 USD per month. I'm concerned for people who are misled by incomplete information. Many Americans and Canadians don't retire to Mexico because they think the COL here is higher than it is based on videos they watch posted by conservative people unwilling to make lifestyle modifications. If I watch a video that gives information in sharp contrast to the truth, I say something.

How does he qualify with the Mexican government's income residency requirements?
Beach community is not the same as living on the beach.
And the prices for everything are season dependent.

I’m sure that he is happy but honestly, I feel that most middle class people from N.O.B. would not choose to live such a spartan lifestyle. As one example, I have lived in Mexico for almost 5 years, live a middle class lifestyle comparable to the US, and spend, on average, 36,000 pesos per month. (North of the Border) please realize that it’s not as easy as before to come to Mexico and live as a “perpetual tourist”. If you dream of living in Mexico as a legal resident, you are going to need far more that $600 USD per month, in fact you’ll need 4 times that amount to “legally” qualify for residency.

Gasoline/car maintenance, groceries, home improvements/maintenance, Health, home/auto insurance, pet food/grooming, utilities, netflix/spotify/internet/cell phone/ software subscriptions, books…typical stuff. I’m not on a budget, I just track my spending and last year it averaged about $36,000 pesos per month., which is just under $22,000 USD. In my opinion, the stories of people living for $500-1000 usd per month are living a lifestyle that would not appeal to many people who are used to a typical “American” life.

People are moving from sayulita to San pancho and SP to lode Marcos because of cost of living. It’s also almost impossible to find a place to rent in lo de Marcos. San pancho is bigger than ldm and much more expensive.

Mexico in order to qualify for residency, you need about 2,000 per month retirement income and about 22,000. If not you can't get residency in Mexico.

It depends what someone did for a living in the USA. How much they earned, how much they saved, life choices. It’s the same in any country. So many circumstances. Divorces, kids, etc. my biggest pet peeve is when Americans come here on a very limited budget and expect to live in the most expensive areas! No! There are CHEAP places in mexico but it’s not going to be in the best climate, low crime, beautiful neighborhoods you will have to go out further. Again, just like in any country.

In the case with Memo it includes his house in cost. But as he says in the video that anybody coming in we need to add on $500 for housing cost. $1100 a month would be your entry point and going up. On average most single people are spending $1200 amount of $1500 a month. Because he's already qualified for a permanent visa he has no monthly cost for a visa. You would have to qualify for a temporary visa which is about $2500 a month you would need to show the Mexican government that you have each month going into a bank account. You do not have to spend $2500 a month to live on you can live on the $1100 a month and save the rest like he does. Look at that video one more time.

Also, no mention of health insurance, I am guessing maybe he is either going without and relying on INSABI or he pays a little and is enrolled in IMSS. Maybe he kept part of his Medicare in the States as well. I wish that was covered.

I recently found out that income requirements have changed you can no longer live in Mexico and $1,000 a month temporary 2400 to 2700 permanent residency 4500 to 4700 animal show that you have had this amount in your bank account for at least six to 12-month
To live in Mexico on $1000 a month even if you could get a resident visa or 180 day visa is not realistic. A single person of $1500 a month or more would be reasonable amount to help but even that would be tight. If there ever was an emergency you will need to have some back up money.

This is a nice interview with Memo...he's an interesting fellow (I was sad you cut him off before he was finished talking), however, it's all a moot point if one doesn't have enough financial income to get residency. Please remind people of that very important truth. No, it doesn't take as much to live in Mexico as Mexican immigration requires, but if you can't get residency, then it doesn't really matter, does it?

Progress has caught up in Mexico it's not your sleepy Third World country it has no manufacturing of automobiles, appliances, exporting fruits and vegetables. A large part of Mexico coastline brings in billions of dollars in tourism. The foreigners have invaded Mexico and they want a higher standard that they're used to as example they want five star hotels, new freeways and highways that have been upgraded they won't conveniences such as cable television, fiber optics high speed Internet. Other large companies have come into Mexico such as Costco, Applebee's restaurant, outback steak House restaurant, Chili's restaurants, the middle class is grown and they want the things that the Americans have such as cars, refrigerators, taking vacations etc. Mexico is not cheap anymore.

A lot depends on the city/town or village plus the accommodations you can be happy with, you can’t get a temporary visa (other than tourist) with only $1,000.00 per month income

In the meantime I will be living off of some of my investment savings. I acquired a permanent residency visa based on savings not income. I am willing to live a very spartan lifestyle for the next 4 years until my pensions kick in and my remaining investments mature and become available to me. I was looking on living inland, not a beach town, and renting a studio or even just a room with a bar fridge and two burner cooking unit for now for $1000 per month.

FRANK, FRANK, oh dear FRANK. First of all Memo the gentleman in this video does not have to pay any rent he is caretaking the land that he lives on. Memo also produces a lot of his own food on his land that he is a caretaker. He does not have electricity bill, he does not have an Internet bill, does not have a cable bill, does not have a car payment, he receives free medical in Mexico in the IMMS medical system. He's a single gentleman, some days his whole food budget may be under five dollars and that's typical for him. So Frank Frank Frank when you say this is impossible Frank well all I can say I've interviewed him a few times I know him and this is 100% true frank Frank this is not fake news. FRANK make a comment let me what know what you think now. I have interviewed other people that live on $300 a month. Could I live on that know what I want to live on that now but some people are minimalist some people get excited about saving money and not spending money and this is the category that Memo is.
You might be able to live on $600 a month but you won't be allowed into Mexico with even $1000 a month. Last I heard it was up to around $3000 a month. Far less than I live on in an expensive area, but I don't qualify to live in Mexico. So telling about people who live on $600 does not help at all, they won't let low income people in any longer. Talk about the things you can do and how to live on $3000 a month, or whatever the minimum is now.
Yes the immigration requirements to create a big problem but if you have the money to qualify $2500 a month income you can get a temporary visa that is good for four years then you just start to live on that $600-$1200 a month and save the rest.

This may be true, BUT lots of people overstay tourist visas and just live there it seems. Some communities have a lot of people like this and they make an effort to get them legal in some communities.
