    I totally did the opposite. Went to MX once for 2 weeks, went back for 3 weeks a couple of months later and bought a house, closed on the house 4 months later, and within 5 months sold or gave away everything I owned and moved to Mexico. Virtually no planning involved. When I make decisions sometimes I just jump off that cliff and never look back. Now here for 7 months and couldn't be happier with the house, the neighborhood, my nieghbors, the geographical area, and the climate.

    We moved to Mexico in 2022. We purchased a beautiful, 4/4 home near Cuernavaca, and we have never been happier or more relaxed. We didn’t want to live in an expat area because those areas are pricier and too catering to "Gringos". I am forced to learn Spanish, which at near 70 years of age is not so easy, but people are kind and patient with me. My husband is from Mexico but has been a U.S. citizen for 25 years. When we were married 23 years ago, we traveled to Mexico to see his family, and I fell in love with Mexico. We returned almost every winter to spend time traveling all over Mexico, and I realized that Mexico was where I wanted to live for the remainder of my life, so here we are. Best decision I ever made.

      Thanks Brenda. We left it at the border and boy are we glad that we did. It is such a relief not having people yell over top of each other and think they are having a conversation. That is the part that was starting to drive us nuts. People are entitled to have different views and that doesn't make them evil, stupid or hateful. They have lived a life that has lead them to these beliefs and if one took the time one may find that there is validity in what they have to say. That requires listening and actually engaging in conversation. That is totally lost in the tribalized US. OH Well, time to get off the soapbox. Thanks you for watching Brenda.

My sister returned in the 70s and started various businesses and very successful. Ive traveled to restorts as an adult with family. But 10 years ago life threw me a curve.. divorce.. lost everything to her, courts just side with women in California.. i did end up with my children as that to me was more valuable than materialistic things even money.. im finally very stabilized mentally and financially. @@GringosRUs that's a deal 🤝
      First we thought of Chapala area, not Ajijic... Too darn crowd, some entitled expats and the infrastructure sounds like is getting too critical regarding sustainability ( according to Lake Chapala Society's RUclips reports, and several comments from the locals; this trend seems to be spreading towards Jocotepec, Chapala city , San Antonio Tlayacapan. We will be visiting there BUT to check out the towns further towards the East side of the lake and up north towards Puerto Vallarta (far from the coast... Heat and I no longer get along. Got good information from Access Chapala Real Estate agency's talked personally with them and we will see what they know about the near areas of Guadalajara/Puerto Vallarta/Chapala.... "Juntos pero no revueltos" ( together but not mixed up) an old Mexican saying... 😂 We prefer quiet and easy going place to spend the rest of our days staring at each other and see who goes first.... LoL 😂😂😂😂

      @GringosRUs Год назад

      @@Dragon-kf5sb We are also doing the Jocotepec, Ajijic and Chapala run at some point. The longer we are in the country, the less enthused I feel about Ajijic. When we were doing the planning stages, it was very high on the list, but in watching other RUclipsrs, it has lost a little of the luster for me anyway. If we were a little down on SMA due to the increased Gringo presence, I have a fear that Ajijic will be the same. Plus there is the traffic issue and that is not something that can readily be fixed as the layout really dictates the road possibilities. One of the things that we are doing is trying each location at it's worst time of the year if possible. Like Merida in the heat of the summer. Everyone says how hot it is there, well, if we love it then, we will definitely love it in the winter. We just don't want to be guilty of not totally knowing what we are getting ourselves into. If we start melting on our videos or resort to doing them only inside, then that will be a good indicator.
      You do sound a lot like us, looking for that right location. It looks good on the map, but until you try it you don't know. Hence our 4 year tour around Mexico seeing all the potential landing spots. If it's a staring contest at the end, I am toast. LOL

      And the longer that we are down here in Mexico, the more we realize how unhospitable most of the US has become. It is a shame, but until people wake up and start to be civil to one another, I fear that it is on a road that leads to bigger problems. It starts in Washington, when the leaders of the country show civility, people will follow. It has not been evident for many years and people have taken their cue from them. Glad that is a problem that is no longer ours to worry about!

Mark sir, Gina ma’am, I wish you the best on your adventure to 30 locations. I will watch and wish you good health and plenty of remote work to keep you motivated. I got rid of all my gear when we came down here, no room in the car, and besides, I am retired. I do think that a good photographer could do well down here. Between shooting good shots for real estate and AirBnb's and then the never ending supply of nature and candid life in the streets. It all depends upon where you would want to settle in to.

    Make sure to visit San Cristóbal(de las Casas) in Chiapas and Oaxaca(city)! Both have excellent climates and great people, are safe and offer tons to see and do. Chiapas is packed with amazing places to explore. Las dos ciudades les encantarían! Mérida too, but it's a lot hotter there. PS. Regarding improving your Spanish, there's nothing better than intensive one on one classes of a few hours a day. And take your time with your homework :) Look into which schools are better....and you can always try a few.

    I am trying to understand where you currently live and how you manage healthcare. Just visited Guanajuato snd St. Miguel for the day of the dead. Found Guanajuato more " Mexican" and liked the fact that it's a university city. St. Miguel seens very touristy, beautiful but with lots of boutiques and exoensive restaurants.

      San Miguel may seem like it only has expensive restaurants but there is so much more to San Miguel de Allende than the downtown area. It's a great city to live in if you learn to live like the locals do :)

      We have not yet made it to Guanajuato, but from what we understand you are spot on about it being a very big cultural center in Mexico and SMA is a tourist spot with lots of immigrants that do reside there. We did enjoy our time in SMA and think that it is a spot everyone should visit, but it didn't trip our trigger as to living there long term. That's just us though. Thanks for watching.

    This is a better, more informative testimonial than most of ther others. I'm Puerto Rican and so is my wife and we are hoping to hang 'em up in 2027 if all goes well (fingers crossed). By then I'll be fully retired (68 years old) and she will be one year away from early retirement. And combined we should be ok ....... (as long as the US social security system doesn't go boobs-up in our lifetime, but I digress). A question, it would be phonemenal to get some details of the logistics of how they are moving from city to city as far as rental agreements? combination of rental and short term rentals? I ask becuase we as well wish to spend at least a year or two exploring before we decide where to land. Kudos to both. I've been to Ashville .... its an amazing place. If you left THAT and feel happier here.... that is saying something.

    • @GringosRUs
      @GringosRUs Год назад

      @@MexicoRelocationGuide We are using AirBnB's and we actually book them about a year in advance. For several reasons, but the number one is to lock in the price. We also tend to get the pick of where we would like to be with regards to location and amenities. We drive a maximum of 7 hours each day that we travel so most of the time we are going from one location to another that is only a day away. Occasionally we will have to spend the night on the road and we then stay in Auto Moteles that have garages so we don't have to unpack the car. It took some work to form the schedule, but so far it has worked out very well. If you have questions, just shout. Thanks.

      The biggest savings that we are realizing, financially speaking, is in the ancillary items. Pharmacies, mercados, and gas. Yes, gas is more expensive here, but we don't drive like we did in the US. It was always in the car we would go, here, there and everywhere. Down here, we walk a lot more. The hardest part is in making the decision to pull the trigger, so to speak, on making such a life altering move. We took some time to come to the decision, but we are so glad that we did. We are now in our 12th city of our tour to find our retirement home. The people here in Mexico have made us feel so welcome and we just continue to live our dream every day. We have about 10 or 12 more cities to go before we make our final determination, but it will definitely be here in Mexico. All we can say is "come on down, the weather and people are both warm and inviting!"

    • @GringosRUs
      @GringosRUs Год назад +1

      Yeah, we thought of that, but what if the next place is even better. That is one of the reasons that we book as far in advance as we do. Then we are sort of locked in, financially speaking to following our schedule. If someplace grabs us that much then we would have had many months to discuss it before we would return.
