      @Pam Spencer Pam....have been staying in Mazatlan, Sayulita, Bucerias, PV, even Venezuela over the last forty years. The changes I have seen are more gringos like me, ridiculous developments with outrageous pricing along with media highlighting drug cartels and travel advisories, some improvements in the standard of living. In my city in Canada, the changes I have seen. Ridiculous rise in my property taxes, home prices, water/ garbage bills etc. Homelessness is considered the worst in the Western world. Police in what seems to be killing it's citizen's for sport, because their feeling are hurt, governments imposing their singular agenda, punishing their own people for respecting our forefathers' efforts and sacrifices. Our educational system so dumbed down that we rank in the lower percentile of industrialized nations. A health care system that is again one of the most expensive and inefficient in the Western world. Mexico and Sweden demonstrated courage during the pandemic, and their leadership made the intelligent and caring decision.
      So Pam, I have never experienced what you have highlighted to the degree it would deter me. Other than drinking water, no biggie. Here is what I have experienced and encountered. The cartels and police corruption always have a twenty dollar bill at the ready. Always be aware and remove yourself the FEW times this happens. My city, police far more intrusive with law-abiding citizens. The weather just comes with the territory. My ability to see a doctor or dentist far easier access and WAY less expensive in South and Central America. I know the government of Mexico and understand corruption it is on a SMALL SCALE compared to the US/Canada, we just have lobbing groups. My country is everything politicized, and corruption cost it's citizens billions of dollars. So in the end, would I rather live in a country where it's citizens fight every day to better their lives, are kind, generally happy, and I am not reprimanded for saying Mr, Mrs and Ms? Would I continue to give my money to a government that squanders it like there is no tomorrow?
      I do respect your writing but simply disagree. The world is changing, and the good changes are not in the USA/Canada.
      Are you not glad you commented.....lol.... Pam more than 70% of the world's population is simply tired of the Western's worlds bulling agendas. Born, raised, and educated in the US/Canada. Cannot understand how we are spitting out degrees right, left and centre and yet our population is unconscious and dare I say uneducated.
      Do I feel better? Thanks for highlighting the real world Pam....stay safe and have a giggle-:)

I wish I could post photos of my apartment. I saved $1,150 a month from my SS. When I left Laos after three years to go to the Philippines, I had over $34,000 US saved from those three years.

    There are so many opportunities for a comfortable retirement once you leave the US. Low cost of living, excellent medical care for a reasonable cost and a relaxing lifestyle. My wife and I built a cottage-style house in Thailand for a fraction of the cost the same house in the US would be. $1,000 a month is about all we can spend for groceries, restaurants, utilities and diesel. Well, he may be very smart and he may not be but we cannot really say for sure from the video. All we really know from the video - besides the fact that he cannot pronounce "miscellaneous" properly - is that he seems like a fairly nice guy who loves to travel and that he is pretty frugal. Well, actually maybe not so frugal because, even though his overall expenses are about the same as mine, he actually spends quite a bit more for food each month than I do here in Phuket, Thailand. Furthermore (and I hate to say this) he does not seem to know how to add, because the itemized expense list he showed adds up to a subtotal of $705 not $490. As for Bali, I have always loved it there myself but I do not like the fact that to retire there you are required to hire domestic help even if you do not need it. I like to do things myself and I do not want to be required to pay for services that I do not need. And of course, since I always need to live near the beach I could never find any place to rent that is even remotely as cheap as the place this guy is staying in.

    Its nice to see that there are other places cheap to live. Im currently in a 2 bedroom place on an island in Philippines for about $45 a month close to beach , (5 minute walk, ) raising 3 pigs, 6 chickens, 6 ducks , 2 dogs , a rabbit, and a new baby kitten just orphaned that showed up in a wood pile out back in the forest. Its not a heavily touristed spot so its pretty quiet but the island does have a shopping mall, big market and nice yoga center high up over looking the sea. My girlfriend knows the locals so we got a really good deal. Hoping to lease for the next few years as I develop my online business.

I would expect if I had a Business that helped or connected w/ Locals -- that could be a Way to be welcomed and excepted like Bobby has done. Any Tips on how to get in w/ the Locals ? I would not expect to find a decent 2 bed place for less than 150. a month but it might be possible .

    You can live a great life away from the west if you are prepared to become a little "local" and integrate a little with local people. That does not mean you need to become fully local, give up your home country ways, or change your personal values. I live in NE Thailand in a rural village; we have fiber internet (very fast), online shopping where you can buy anything and it turns up in a couple of days (or 5-14 days if ordered from China), we are about an hour from the local airport and can fly to Bangkok and then on to wherever we want if we want a break. Weather is wonderful, local family are great. Internet is 640 baht a month, water 300 baht, electricity 1000 baht, no rent as we built our own place 15 years back. Life is good! Not sure I could keep travelling like Dan and his partner, but respect their choice and enjoy their videos.

      Hi Ty Kellerman,
      Thanks for watching our video. Glad we could help. Just be aware, that everyone's costs will vary, often widely. You will have to come put your feet on the ground here and see what your cost of living estimate will be. All of us live different lives so what we would spend may have no relationship at all to what you will spend per month. Also, make sure you add anything you need in your estimate that is not specifically mentioned in our estimated expenses. And make sure to have significant emergency money set aside in case something happens. Here are some reports on these topics:

      @blakenelson4045, There is no set cost of living for everyone. The fact that one person can live on a certain amount does not mean that another person can live on that amount. The only way to know what your expenses would be is to go there and pick where you are going to live, eat, drink, and entertain yourself and add it all up. You must do an exploratory visit with your feet on the ground before you will know your cost of living. Thanks for watching and commenting on the video. Dan

    Indonesia taxes worldwide income once you become a resident (stay more than 183 in Indonesia in a year). This means any income earned abroad becomes taxable in Indonesia. In the case of US citizens who may be retired and receiving SS (or dividends etc), the resultant tax in US can be zero or very minimal because of the way SS is taxed, standard deductions etc. Though US has a tax treaty with Indonesia, since taxes are not paid (or little is paid) in the US, it will end up with a high taxable income in Indonesia, if you are even a normal income earner in the US. Any thoughts on this aspect and how people manage the taxation in Indonesia being a foreign resident?

    • @VagabondAwake
      @VagabondAwake  Год назад +6

      I suggest they talk to their accountant. There are more ways to skin a cat (tax man) in most countries that will surprise you. But I was told by a guy in a diner (Internet) that he was not taxed on his first 4 years of foreign-generated income. I listen to the internet and I do my own research on the internet, but I make decisions based upon my accountant's advice after hearing all of the conspiracy theories I read online. Thanks for raising the red flag so people know what questions to get answered. :-)

    • @pathkris2984
      @pathkris2984 Год назад +2

      @@VagabondAwake Thanks Dan. I saw that part too earlier. From a website - "As an exception to this general rule, tax residents who meet specific skill requirements will be taxed in Indonesia only on their Indonesian-sourced income. These skill requirements include particular expertise in science, technology, and/or mathematics (which can be proven by having a certificate of expertise from a government-appointed institution, a certificate of education, and/or at least five years of work experience). This exception will only be available for the first four years after becoming a tax resident of Indonesia."

    • @pathkris2984
      @pathkris2984 Год назад +2

      But in my research I found once that honeymoon is over, I couldn't find any exceptions :) But worth further research or discussion with accountants as you said - one area of exploration would be, once that 4 years is over, can you get out of Indonesia for a year or so, so you are no longer a resident and then go back in - do we get another fresh set of 4 years or it can be used only once in a lifetime. Also how do we prove that stem requirements etc..

    • @pathkris2984
      @pathkris2984 Год назад +2

    I’m now researching where I would like to spend some time in my retirement in about a year or so, Bali can possibly be the place.

    I am a perpetual traveler with a 20 liter backpack and just sleep on beaches and under my military poncho shelter.
    I get bored easily in one place and prefer not to stay in hotels, airbnb etc.
    Is it possible to camp on beaches in Bali or set up a jungle hammock and travel Bali in this fashion???
    Greetings from Bodrum, Turkey

    I would bet that most people won't find these prices, this guy is well connected which is most likely the key to getting a house for a $1000 a year. You'll likely pay $400-600 per month, still cheap but not $80 a month.

    What a great interview. I had the miss conception that Bali had become to expensive.
    Will you be updating your Bali report to include the area he is in and how we as visitors to such a great country can build more bonds with the locals?
    I feel many times expats tend to be timid or reserved in forming local friendships and gravitate toward fellow expats.

    A extra, what you are saying....., not only see your vision, much more feel it as its done. Or work with a inner screen. There are different forms. But feeling as its done is key.

    I viewed this video 1st time and am shocked, l was thinking of either going to Thailand or ( 1st choice-Philippines ) go to the Philippines and thought those prices were good, but looking at this interview, l am thinking of changing my plans. Thank you for this interview and speaking of a topic that would help a lot of your viewers.
