Hi there, wondering if you have any info or advice on a place to rent. I’d like to be there seasonally. I’m a single older woman who doesn’t need fancy, just clean. Looking for a one or two bdrm apartment or such, fairly close to the beach and markets/town. Foot transportation only. Any ideas? I’d be there 6 months a year, looking to pay 7000 pesos or less. Possible?
Hik Tina, can you tell me what the health care is like there? I have a son that has seizures sometimes and am looking for a place that has good available health care if the need arises. Thank you!

This is so wonderful to see that older people can retire very comfortably on their pension and social security. I would buy a small house so I wouldn't have to pay rent every month. This couple has found their niche and seems to be very happy in Mexico. Good luck to them.
Foreigners can't own in Mexico but they can "own" with a legal trust. My parents had a horrendous experience in Mexico getting screwed by the officials (notarios) who were supposed to set up the "trust". Plus everything was a rip off like when something needed fixing, etc. Rental is THE way to do it for the best experience.

It’s very sad, I used to work going home to home and it’s so sad the way most retired normal people live in California. Some didn’t even have enough for food! A couple getting $2000 a month in social security, they lived in poverty, almost all of them. It was so sad. I’d rather live in Mexico or Philippines than struggle for $2000.

I feel the same way about Mexico. Wanting to do this for years. Would you mind sharing what area you have chosen to live in. I'm a senior female and have no family, so I would be doing this on my own. I have just started to watch some videos of people from USA, and there's so many beautiful places I see how hard it will be to choose.

Summary: In this video, Cindy and Fred live in a beach town in Mexico for $1500 per month, renting a house for $250 per month. They give a tour of their house and discuss their budget home makeover, the cost of living in Mexico, the weather, safety, and their friend Natalia gives a tour of a three-bedroom rental home in the beach town of La Crucesita, Huatulco, Mexico. Cindy and Fred have been living in Mexico for 25 years and 5 years, respectively. They rehabbed their rental house, adding a new kitchen, dining area, living room, and more. Their monthly budget, excluding food, is $1050. This includes two internet services, housekeeping, car maintenance, purified water, electricity (including air conditioning), and more. They spend 10,000 pesos ($500) on healthy food, including fresh fruits, vegetables, and fish. The area they live in is safe and has a low crime rate. Huatulco is known for its nine bays, 36 beaches, whale-watching, turtle releases, and more. The city has purified water and is eco-friendly, with many natural reserves. For transportation, Cindy and Fred use ATVs and walk, as everything is close in their town. A nearby rental home in a safe residential neighborhood costs 15,000 pesos per month, including internet but not utilities. The area has local restaurants, taxis, and is a short walk to the beach and downtown. In Huatulco, rental prices vary depending on the season and the type of home. A house with a swimming pool can cost around 35,000 pesos per month, while a two-story unfurnished house can cost 7,000 to 8,000 pesos per month. Condominiums are also available for around $84,000. Cindy and Fred also share some information about obtaining residency in Mexico and their experience living in the country. Overall, they are very happy living in Mexico and appreciate the acceptance and kindness of the local people.
This lady must have some great local contacts and a very strong second language to secure the work and materials as stated in this video. Kudos to her!
Toward the end I put two and two together and I think she's Mexican-American so she's probably bilingual and Mexicans really I think would be nice to their own shall we say😊
I’m Nicaraguan & Irish. How fortunate I was to be able stay with my grandparents for summer breaks and learn Spanish. I agree with the Latin lifestyle. No one should ever be judged. The food? Don’t get me started!
I love this lady....very positive and no ego at all!!! This is the reason she looks healthy and smart....she is advising not go there to presum... just get there and relax and live a healthy and simple life as we all are here for!!!
I've been there twice. It's an incredible place. There are beautiful waterfalls with Caribbean blue water not far from there. You can get a 2 hour spa with 1 hour massage for $30.
I love huatulco! It's one of the best places I've visited. It's a hidden gem. Not a lot of tourists. Great, delicious food and the waterfalls are amazing!
I’m an American and have been to Huatulco. It is absolutely beautiful and the people are so nice and respectful of everyone. We really enjoyed our stay. I have been to many places in Mexico (absolutely love it). Huatulco…..l could definitely live there! If you haven’t been, please go. Enjoy your stay and be respectful.
I loved Huatulco when we were their in November 2022. Unfortunately, I didn’t go into town and I really wanted to. We love Mexico and the people very much! ❤
Thanks for interviewing Fred and Cindy. They always are so informative. They are down to earth and allow people like me who does not have much to dream big of a practical paradise.
OMG I love Cindy! She's a hoot! I want her to be my friend. I'm so excited to watch their videos & learn more. Great video & thanks for sharing Jim! :)
You can do the same thing anywhere just grow your own food. As humans we are inherently lazy and sometimes we have to force ourselves to do things by moving too far away places where the things we used to go for are not available anymore. Sometimes we have to outsmart ourselves. ❤
@@FacesintheStone Not really. Lot of the US HOA rules blocks people from growing their own food. I saw a old article online of a family being arrested for growing food in their front yard in Florida.
So wonderful and heartwarming 💖 to hear you speak well of the home surrounding you are living in and embracing the community you are living in. Embracing the people you live with and appreciating their culture. So many times people travel, love where they are ,and don't appreciate and respect the people who live there.
I am happy for you because you managed to get residency years ago. As Fred noted, now it is not possible to get a resident visa on a small fixed income (mine is USD$1500) because Mexico recently raised the monthly income requirement to over USD$2500. The best thing Fred did was to marry Cindy! ¡Felicitaciones!
Yes, I don't understand why the amount has increased so much. I picked the right time for residency (permanent residency Feb 2022). I live comfortably on my $1600 Social Security in Hermosillo.
@@gretchengraef3012 ... I just read this on Mexperience for a permanent visa: "A regular income of at least c.US$7,300 per month, every month, over the last 6 months. (Some consulates request 12 months.)"
Fantastic episode into life in Mexico. This life just seems to be so much more authentic to me. Know Guatemala quite well, this beach life is for me. Thanks for sharing, hopefully they won’t get overrun with the influx of us US-based retirees who are fed up with the way life is going in the USA. 👍🏻💥👏🏻🙏🏻
I retired in 2015 and have been going to Guatemala City every year minus the COVID season and I m paying less that $200 for my room per month I don’t cook because I can eat 3 meals per day for less than $10 ….per day, so why should I cook? I sold my Toyota truck, because it’s cheaper and safer to ride with Uber!
Why do you think I am watching this video? Life in the USA is not good. The earning of USD is great, but not much else. Retirement in the USA is getting further out of reach for most Americans. Also, the USA has no culture.
@@deborahriley1166 I wish you luck. The issue I face now is where to retire to in South America. Money has become less the issue lately. Especially in Mexico, Colombia, etc. I am done with the USA.
This is what I mean when I speak of "beautiful" Mexico... There's MANY MORE reasons to stay... live... love... than to "flee"... There are numerous towns like this through the country... 👍🏽
The very first video I saw about Mexico was when I was researching tiny homes and Cindy and Fred had a video about a tiny home in Mexico! It was their prior studio apartment. This started me on a binge of watching Mexico videos and then in 2021 I got my temp residency and renewed it for 3 years in 2022. Still living in the USA but Olán to sell my house early next year and move to Mexico city( and may winter run Huatulco or Puerto Vallarta!) All thanks to “retire in Mexico” videos by Cindy!! ❤❤❤
I turned 60 this past November and when I think about retirement I think of how unattainable it seems. I don't wan tot work until I am dead, so I have been looking at other alternatives and this would definitely be one for me.

As always, I really enjoy your videos and have learned alot. Cindy and Fred look like a fun and cool couple and I enjoy their vlogs as well. I flew into Huatulco last November and stayed in Zipolite for about a month. I also enjoyed Mazunte and Pachutla ( especially the weekly market ). I now know that I will return to Mexcico soon. Campeche is also definately on my radar, but there is something about Huatulco and the surrounding areas that just felt right for me. This is will hopefully be my future retirement destination. Thank you for your informative videos on Mexico. I have been to Huatulco and Oaxaca many times. I am from the USA and have travelled to many many places in Mexico and I have nothing but praise for the Mexican people I have met. I have always been trested like family when I visit there. I love how she says “We Are” with so much pride, that’s what Mexico does to immigrants this why new immigrants and our ancestors regardless of which country they were able to adapt to the country and felt a sense of belonging, people from different backgrounds, cultures, race, are proud to call themselves Mexicans, because they are weather they were born there or they just been there for a few days 😊
A good point but I think she's Mexican-American which is why it was easier for her to do all the stuff she did and she's bilingual for sure Spanish English.
Such a lovely couple. I was born in Mexico City but I've been in Phoenix 36 years. One day I will retire back to a place like this, maybe Vallarta. Loved how you said "we" are eco friendly. Loved it.
The way Phoenix is going downhill, I would advise you to make your move! I would love to get out of here myself! It’s becoming a hell hole and unaffordable!
Always remember that only the bad news sales, I being in Mexico many times , even on not good at all zones and nothing happens, everyone was super nice to us. I can't wait to move down there. 7 more years and I see you there.
So good to see Cindy and Fred again after such a long time! I was worried about them. I used to follow their RUclips channel, but all of a sudden I couldn’t find their channel anymore. Great to know they’re fine and enjoying life just as they love! Kudos to them and to this channel! ❤
What a lovely couple able to share there home with us in a nice community in Mexico. Unfortunately, my medical condition will not be changed by a change of location.
The people of Oaxaca are super friendly and welcoming to strangers, pretty much everyone I met backpacking along the coast from Puerto Escondido down through Hualtulco was just so friendly. I was down a couple months ago after the hurricane Agatha had gone through and I was amazed to see how much everyone had pulled together to get things put back together again.
Another good benefit of living by the ocean is the body works better at sea level then in mountains specially when a person is Older - the higher you go your blood pressure gos up too - and the fresh food and the weather and less stressed all of that makes a big difference, iv been thinking about moving to Mexico but my biggest problem i have is choosing where in Mexico , i have some friends that moved to la paz 2 years ago and they love it, but i understand there's better places as you go more south.
@@FreyaRae1510 Exactly what I was thinking. After their lease is up and the owner sees the renovations, she can jack up the price or decide to move back in herself.
Wow, that sounds so wonderful. Just started to learn Spanish and am looking for an area to retire on SS. The residency qualifications may be a problem but I saw a video that said you can drastically reduce the financial requirement by getting temporary residency first and then go for permanent residency after 4 years much easier. I'll look into more once I'm closer to actually taking the plunge. I want to know decent Spanish and save for the next year or two.
You are so smart to have some Spanish and a willingness to learn more. I am learning on top of learning so don’t stop. Don’t fall for those who say “oh, you can get by without knowing Spanish.” The level you are treated is based largely on your level of Spanish. And you’re less likely to get ripped off which happens everywhere unfortunately. Buena suerte.
Happy to see Fred and Cindy again! I have been wondering what happened to them as I haven't seen any of their videos lately; glad to know they are living well! Thanks for featuring them.
Wow! Where in the world can you get that kind of affordable rent and living expenses? And the fact that it is close to California, it is a no brainer jewel of a place. Looks like a safe and peaceful place. Wonderful! I wish my hubby will approve the idea that we try living there for at least a month for a dry run for a change. Thank you for sharing the information. I lived in Playa Zipolite for 3 yrs. It was 2020 when I was unable to return to Guatemala as I had no legal residency. I was angry at first but soon saw the blessings of my situation. I returned to the States this past Jan and only expected to be here a few months. Well one visit to friends on another State has turned into another and I won´t be returning to Costa Oaxaca until Sept. I am seriously looking at moving to Hualtuco. I loved it everytime I had reason to go. I am challenged with mobility and will need a rolling walker sooner than later and this city will be very easy to navigate. I love the ability to shop daily if needed for fresh veggies and fruits so a local neighborhood is exactly where I want to settle

Hello, again, Cindy and Fred. Love your video and keeping up to date with you. I have been to Huatulco and loved spending a day at Playa Entrega where I had a guy wash our car for us while the teens swam at the beach. I'll definitely look you up when we go there, but we are more often in Puerto Vallarta. I also liked your video at Playa Entrega - nice memories!!
I really enjoyed this video and the lady was such a pleasure to watch and listen too. She really explained things in such a way as to set everyone’s mind at ease and make you feel comfortable. Both she and Fred (I think his name was -?) made you feel comfortable. I know that if I moved there that I would want to be friends with them. I have been wanting to relocate since before I started college. That was more than 30 years ago. It was amazing to see how inexpensive the rent is. Boy, I would love one of those houses. I’m glad that you two are enjoying your lives together.
Amazing Cindy & Fred. I've been looking to retire in Mexico - I'm Canadian and not a fan of the cold, the extreme cost of living or the idiot running our country. Huatulco seems to be a great spot for enjoying my retirement and living within a fixed budget. Thanks for the great video.
I love the Mexican culture, I plan to expat in 5 years +/-. I currently live in a small town in Colorado, and the influx of new residents has affected our community negatively. I hope that as an American we will continue to be welcomed there.
welcome to mexico we do not see the color of the skin we only see the heart and if you come to mexico continue with the mexican culture do not try to change it
Just be careful, you don't call yourself an ex Pat. The Mexicans want you to call yourself an immigrant. For some reason, some people get really uptight about it. It's just a word to me. I don't think it really matters, but some people have an issue with it. And I don't understand that!
Sounds quite nice and overall reasonably priced. I understand that they only pay $250 because they rented out a "shack" many years ago and refurbished it. But the rental prices for modest quarters seem doable. What I was wondering about is medical care - both quality and expense? Most of us who are seniors have ongoing medical conditions and need good care. Beautiful place!

People improve health wise because the food is not modified or altered by genetics or chemical processes. It’s grown naturally and consumed as such.
Lisa Raper, I agree. I love the fresh food options available.
You can do the same thing anywhere just grow your own food. As humans we are inherently lazy and sometimes we have to force ourselves to do things by moving too far away places where the things we used to go for are not available anymore. Sometimes we have to outsmart ourselves. ❤

So wonderful and heartwarming 💖 to hear you speak well of the home surrounding you are living in and embracing the community you are living in. I HAD BEEN LOOOKING FOR THIS COUPLE ...FRED AND CINDY!!
@@gretchengraef3012 Maybe they are getting overly saturated with foreigners.
I heard it was $4500 per month.

The warmer climate is ideal... Thank you for the information. It's great that Mexico welcomes foreign residents.
Yes and still there's a way more easy for old people

Just be careful, you don't call yourself an ex Pat. The Mexicans want you to call yourself an immigrant. For some reason, some people get really uptight about it. It's just a word to me. I don't think it really matters, but some people have an issue with it. And I don't understand that!

I love Fred and Cindy.
We visited Mexico last February for the first time and felt in love with Huatulco instantly. We’re going to move there in October.
I have visited the Yucatán area but I will be visiting Huatulco in January. I am looking to move to Mexico by beginning of next year.
I went to the Isthmus of Tehuantepec for a couple of months and found it extremely hot and windy during January & February. It was pretty scary to be in Juchitán after sundown, and the terrifying earthquakes. I couldn't wait to be back home in NY. 😅
is it more safe in NY?
Jajaja NY is colder than Oax actually. If you really want to spend time in southern states of Mexico, adaptation is the key. Scary? I was born and raised in Oax which I can tell you that earthquakes were some part of my childhood and still will be an extrange visitor. In fact, some Oax citizens like me just take earthquakes like life routine. Something very scary for me will be Japan's earthquakes and tsunamis.
