Greetings from Dallas. Your story sounds very much like mine. I went to Lake Chapala to check it out since a friend from Dallas had purchased a home there. I toured 5 homes with a Realtor on that visit. Upon returning to Dallas, I could not get Ajijic out of my mind. After about 4 months of searching for homes online, I put a house under contract sight unseen and I close next month. I would love to connect with you. It is amazing how easy I have found it to make friends there but would be great to connect with others from the Dallas area as a support network. Thanks for a great video!

Day three….those roosters are already beginning to sound like dinner!! I used to travel quite a bit to the area and loved it very much! I also spent a lot of time in Oaxaca. Health issues prevented my husband and I from being able to seriously consider moving there. I wish you much happiness!

Your video really touched me. I too recently retired from a well-paying engineering job in the states, and want very much to move to Mexico! My wife is Mexican, and I speak Spanish fairly well. We visited Ajijic and Chapala areas a few years ago and found it the perfect mix of beautiful, tranquil, great weather, things-to-do, and yet close enough to a large city (Guadalajara) in case one needs things only available in a big city (or just to visit). I really liked the idea of conducting "online business", because even though I had a very good job, I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit (hate "punching a clock").
I mainly wanted to say thank you for the motivation!

Great video guys! Were you warned about the mudslides/landslides that happen at the Racket Club/Cosalá area when it pours? I recommend La Cima del Copal, great food and magnificen view of the lake, about 5 minutes away from your home. Oh... DO NOT go to Mazamitla/Michoacán (across the lake) just yet. There is a horrific drug cartel war going on there (see the news related to San José de Gracia, next to Mazamitla). Take care and enjoy. 🐱

I’ve relocated many times in my life, I know how difficult the readjustment can be. I’ve crossed cultures in the process. I was born in Mexico (1953), exited in 56 at the age of 3. Grew up in the Wash. DC area. Moved to Puerto Rico as a teenager, lived there 4-years. Then back to the DC area for working years. I retired a few years ago & moved to Asheville NC…..lower cost of living. I have wanted to move to Lake Chapala. How’s it going after months in Mexico? Are you home sick for the US?

Hi Brian! Houses in the Racquet club are on the higher end for sure. Like in the 400s and up. However, in Ajijic there are other beautiful neighborhoods where houses sell for $150k-mid 200s

Much to love about Lake Chapala, but I'd be careful about expecting a "perpetual spring." From my experience, while it is sunny, warm and dry for most of the year, you have some very hot temperatures in May and part of June...with not much in the way of air-conditioning, and some pretty chilly temps at night and mornings...with not much in the way of heating.
That sounds like spring to me - it’s not a good start perfect but it is comfortable all year
Yes, I was surprised about such heat during some of the months and also the chilly weather in the "Winter." It seems to be getting hotter all over the world.
How far in advance before my retirement should I start my relocation to Mexico endeavors? Is there anything I need to do in advance? I’ll be retiring in the fall of 2025 at 59 years old can’t wait!!!

Hi! Lake Chapala is an area made up of a few towns. They are all connected by a main highway and back streets. In my opinion it is very walkable if you are a stable walker. If you have mobility issues, it can be hard to walk between Ajijic and San Antonio Tlayacapan. Because there are a lot of cobblestone streets. However, Chapala is less bumpy because their cobblestone streets are smoother. But it all depends where in Lake Chapala you are referring to?

Not sure where you’re coming from (I can from California) but Best Mexico Movers is who I used. Extremely organized & good! I got my delivery in 48 hours of crossing , no customs problems, no damage or losses in trans loading. I did a partial self move by taking U-haul to Laredo & that cut price in half. They even dropped off U-haul for me & drove me across border to airport! Because they don’t mix goods with anybody else (like larger van lines) you don’t have extended timelines or risk items going to wrong place. ;)
Were you guys able to get the permanent residency visa, being younger retirees? I've heard they aren't offering them, even if they qualify financially - unless you're over 60... I'm afraid to buy property without having that first... just curious how you guys did it.
They got temp residency visas- but it’s bot a problem. They’ll renew them for 4 years then they can be perm residents. And you can buy property regardless of residency. Although we do recommend renting for a year at least.

I keep hearing that is happening to people, but I know some who just convert to permanent without being asked for financials.

They live in a very high end neighborhood of Lake Chapala called the racquet club. Houses there sell starting at $8,000,000 Pesos. About $450k USD

Yes they bought their house right away. And immigration doesn’t care when you buy you’re house 😀. You can buy a house as a tourist

They seem like a really nice couple, but they've only been there three weeks? How about interviewing someone who's been there a year or longer? Someone who's had to deal with maybe water or electricity going out? Roof dogs? Wandering packs of dogs? Cohetes? Relying on repair people to show up who then don't? I'd feel more confident about coming down if I felt I was getting a more-rounded report. Thank you.

Lake Chapala is one of the most polluted lakes in the entire world! The people the Mexican people that live upstream from the river that flows into the lake are so polluted that people are getting cancer leukemia and every other disease known to mankind especially the children! They've allowed all kinds of industry to be built on its shores and major cattle ranches and farms and pesticides and fertilizers run off into the river plus the industries dump their effluence into the river it all goes into lake chapala!
The water may look beautiful and may look clear and very inviting but it's hiding A deadly secret poison!
I would recommend if you move to Mexico don’t expect it to America. I’m from Italy moved to Vallarta 25 years. I live in in a town with the Mexican. I now have god children here and we are part of a beautiful Mexican family. I personally think the expats are ruining the town and prices have gone up. I guess expats means Americans and Canadians. They don’t learn Spanish they stick in a certain part of town. I don’t understand moving somewhere and not being with people from the country your in. I noticed the large gated driveways and walls. Do you live in a gated community? Or, is your home behind walls? Does it snow there in the wintertime? Or, does it snow anywhere in Mexico in the wintertime? Are you comfortable with how the Mexican government operates? It seems the US Federal government has become inundated by graft, corruption, payoffs and special interest favoritism to such a degree that so many of the people I know no longer trust the Executive Branch. The once honest federal employee who pledged to treat and serve all Americans equally no longer exists. Civil service people seem intent on punishing regular middle class working folks. Do you see this type behavior as a gringo/yankee in Mexico?

Many of our customers love living in Mexico and corruptioin isn't something they have dealt with in their day to day because most of them never have to deal with the government outside of immigration. So it doesn't affect them as much. But yes, there is corruption in Mexico like there is in any developed country
You need at least 4000 meters elevation to have any real snowfall in most of Mexico. It used to snow as low as 3000, but you know, climate thing. If you want snow, the Northern states sometimes have it at lower elevations.
