People think were just BSing like every other generation when we say this but were the first generation that actually might be right. Other generations are BSing, the 30's please no modern medicine or tech and the Great Depression, The 40's World War II, the Holocaust, The R*pe of Nanking enough said, The 50's RACISM rampant out in the open, so no it was NOT a golden time for all, The 60's civil unrest, segregation, Vietnam, just a mess, the 70's a little better but not as good as the 80's or 90's, the 80's not bad tbh but the Crack epidemic, and the war on Drugs was destroying countless lives, the 90's was as good as it got, we had the internet but it was no all consuming, no social media, no ridiculous brainwashing ideologies spread nation wide, and even if it was not all that great it sure was better than any time before and better than post 2001 imo.
90s Outside of school it was less about what car you had, and what clothes you had. Most people had older cars and also everyone had faded clothes. now everybody has a new car each year or clothing worth more than their car.
Plus the prices look more soothing and the fact combo meals were hella cheap back then and king size or super size anything for like 80 cents back then compared to the craziness now was amazing 🤩
I don't remember cigarettes being allowed in fast food places when I was a kid in the 90s. But I do remember that when you went to a restaurant, the first question they would ask you is how many? And then right after that the second question was smoking or non? And they literally had half the restaurant for smokers and the other half for non smokers. 😂 Hilarious to think about today, because the WHOLE restaurant smelled like cigs
I went to Bulgaria a couple years ago and they asked me if I want smoking or not smoking. I went to the smoking section because I wanted to go back in time while I ate. It was amazing

I worked at Wendy’s mid 1993, a lot different back then. When the manager went into his office to do end of the day figures, we workers would have competitions to see how big a chicken sandwich could be stuffed into our mouths. Great times.

People get really blinded by nostalgia. As hard as it is to fathom, there's kids today where 20 years from now they'll will look back fondly on the 2020's as being the time of their life because this is their time just like us 30-something's are looking back at the 90's with nostalgia because the 90's were our time.

I’m 37 and part of the last generation to grow up without a cell phone glued to my hand. I truly miss how people actually knew how to speak to one another. My first job was at Culver’s in 2002, and it was required you greet everyone that walked in the door as well as thank them when leaving. I still love eating there but man, they barely acknowledge you even when you stand right in front of them. It’s like they don’t know how to talk to anyone unless they are texting them. These old videos are gems - thank you for sharing them with us!

Great video! I worked at a Hardee’s in Florida in 1997, and this is bringing back fast food memories! I worked front line (cashier) and my then-boyfriend worked in the kitchen. It was one of the most stressful jobs, due to the constant criticism and staff turnover. You’d have days where half the crew wouldn’t show up, or there would be a new manager after a couple of weeks with different expectations, or the customers would insult you because they didn’t get their food fast enough. Fast food is a tougher job than most people realize.
Yea I worked at chick filllet once and you had to fill so many freaking fries bags it was insane. Then the heat of the fryer and salt was added annoyance. I got grease burns a lot too. Shitty job
Everyone is so calm. Nothing frantic. And CLEAN. Everyone just looks like normal people... not like they're rabid and ready to strike. I remember the 90s vividly and this really put a lot into perspective.

Yea I was born in 85. Fast food used to be really good. And I'm not saying this to hate on fast food places. But they are trash now. There's only a few that are really good. Like Chick-fil-A, Culver's places like that. But Burger King and McDonald's, Taco Bell, they all suck. And the people that work there are terrible

There was a small mom and pop diner about 30 minutes South from where I live that allowed smoking inside up until 2 or 3 years ago. Shocked the hell outta me. It was like stepping back into the late 80s with the decor and everything. Damn good food and milkshakes.

Yeah, they wear gloves now and just touch everything without changing them. I rarely get fast food, but when I do I always watch the person on the sandwich station touch anything and everything wearing the gloves. At least back in the day, the idea was that you'd wash your hands a lot. There's no way we've helped reduce foodborne illnesses with them.
Weirdly enough, I'll go to the Burger King near me and they never wear gloves. It's honestly gross, especially when it's mainly younger people handling the food now.

well yeah, since 99' minimum wage has gone up like two dollars. But everything has 10x'd in price since then, can't expect people doing demanding food service work to also provide good customer service when they can barely even afford a roof/bed to sleep in after their shifts...

I was only a kid in the 90's but I remember my parents complaining about bad customer service occasionally, and actually myself seeing bad customer service back then also. I remember one time asking my WW2 grandpa if people were rude back in his time. He laughingly said yes of course there's always been assholes and rude people. There's nothing new about it at all.

I noticed sometime in the mid 90s when the whole "imma get my uncle, my cousins, my boys to beat your ass" bullshit started. By the 2000s there was hardly ever a fair, one on one fight happening. You had bullies, but you eventually stood upto them, now they hold all that rage in and go pew pew a whole school because they got called names. Crazy how a few years changes so much.
Well I for one DON'T miss the 90s, at all. Today if I need anything (whether it's a new pair of pants or a pair of roller blades) I can walk 10 feet from my bed to my computer to order it, and it gets delivered to my house in a couple of days. And if I still want to watch the same shows I enjoyed in the 90's ( _X-Files_ , _Beavis and Butthead_ ) I can watch those anytime I want to, without having to wait for a specific time.

I used to work at a Burger King in 1999, and I remember the microphone to call back orders, the large cash register, and promoting Wild Wild West when it came out in theaters.
I don't understand why they had a microphone, I know every place had TV screens and computers by the 90s, at least the ones I went to. You could straight up see the TV screens with orders on them for the cook station, from the customer area.
I was 17 in 99. I miss the Y2k scare. It was hilarious. BK was definitely my favorite fast food burger place back then. They had better tasting burgers (imo) than McDonald's, but the latter had better fries. Mom took us to Carl's Jr back in the late 80s more often, though, because dad got free child meal vouchers from work.

I grew up in Ct. and dont ever remenber people smoking in the line to order food in the 80s but do remenber smoking areas in restaurants, airplanes and even my high school.

Back when people smiled. Most people don’t know this but back in the 80s and part of the 90s Burger King burgers actually tasted like a flame grilled burger. It wasn’t that plastic they have today.
The one thing that stands out to me, born in 85, it's so peaceful and you can experience what is going on around you through the sound. Everything now is so loud and with loud music or news or whatever. Can't even pump gas without the thing showing you some kind of commercial. No wonder people are crazy now. Simpler times then

@@ptrekboxbreaks5198 yeah I was born in 83 so remember some of the 80s and 90s were my real childhood. Its incredible how different those two decades were. I guess the 00s were different, too, but I was an adult by then so might not see all the nuances.
Remembers my 1st full-time job in May 2000 at $6 / hr working at BK. We wore green collar shirts with black jeans, along with baseball caps. Had oval nametags. Exact same kitchen layout w/ auto broiler, steamer, fryolator. Funny how rules were different between BKs like we had to shout "hot fries" when emptying them from basket. There was no glove requirements, & this particular BK looked mint in the cleanliness department. Still, was one of my favorite places to work then for 2.5 years. Thanks for sharing.

I was born in 88 and grew up in the 90s. Back then, BK, Pizza Hut , Sizzler (their Salad Bar was outstanding but shit now) Carls Jr, Arby’s, Subway, Taco Bell, and Del Taco were the best. I also miss the days when Pizza Hut used to have arcades/pinball machines. I think 7/11 did at one point too. Circa 1996-98 I also miss the days as a kid during the summer when my older brother dropped me and my grandma off at Sizzler before we walked across the street to go to Marshalls or Ross. I also miss the days I hung out and tag along with my older brother and his friends. My brother and I would go to Arby’s and go to his friends’ apartment blasting Pearl Jam and Nine Inch Nails and hearing my brothers beeper go off constantly on the way over there and watch them get shit faced. I can go on forever about these great memories. To this day I listen to Pearl Jam and Nine Inch Nails and watch these old fast food videos and memories like these brings me back!
Little did they know 9/11 was right around the corner. I'm a 90s baby. Grew up in the 00s. Every old head I know always says "ahhh the good ole days". About to turn 27 this year. Everyone here was making $7 an hour or a little more. I'm greatful that I grew up with loving parents and great siblings. I won't complain or say that " I wish I grew up in the 80s or 70s", because them days are long gone. Yeah you all had good music, good fast food, great vehicles, good movies, ect. Tell you what time marches on.

As a kid, smoking in restaurants seemed so normal to me. A few years ago though, I was eating with my family when an old man decided to start smoking his cigarette while sitting at the table in front of us. I guess his memory was starting to slip. We all looked at each other, not really sure what to do😂
@@illusorytrutheffect This was the Deep South. Smoking in Public Places was Banned just about everywhere then. But in the Deep South, it was still acceptable. This was also the same year Motor Trend and MOST Magazines BANNED Cigarette Ads.

Born in 89, I loved the Burger King Chicken Sandwiches, but like in 2007 driving to the beach me and my brother got sick from a sketchy Burger King and I haven't eaten there since. I do remember that Wild West cardboard cutout, and I had one of those Wild West BK toys. Guess BK thought it was going to be a huge hit and Will Smith had that Wild West song, but man that movie sucked even when I saw it in theaters as a kid.
People are working and not on their phones complaining or taking selfies. but actually taking pride in the work that they are doing. I was 4. and seeing the tech really brings some nostalgia.
I gave up fast food in 2010, but I can still close my eyes and remember the delicious tastes of their “new” fries, chicken tenders, & chicken sandwiches. BK Lounge was the spot in the early 2000s!

Everyone is shocked how they aren't wearing gloves, yet fail to realize, pretty much no restaurant makes their cooks wear gloves other than fast food places. Regular restaurants, the cooks hands are all over your food.
Yes i was a smoker at this time the clean air act stopped it in 2003 I believe thats when bars became very popular and casinos to this day you can still smoke in depending on your state
I've worked at 3 BKs in my life with 4 and 11 year gaps in between from California to Pennsylvania and we never made our Whoppers like that. The buns are supposed to be either in a steamer or dropped through the toaster after the customer orders, and the Whopper patties are supposed to be placed in trays so that they can soak in their own juices and then placed in hear chutes to stay hot. The only time you're allowed to do what they did in this video is if the customer asks for the Whopper patties to be straight from the broiler, in which case they'd have to wait way longer. Even then, though, those buns are not to be taken out and unless they're freshly toasted. Everything in BK's sandwich making process that might seem benign or irrelevant to an outsider is straight up law for those who work there because they've conducted taste studies throughout the years so that everything is perfect. Like, you can't just assemble a Whopper any which way you want so long as all the ingredients and condiments are the same. You have to put mayo on the top bun, then add the lettuce, then the tomato. While doing that, the bottom bun with the beef patty is supposed to get nuked with or without cheese for 10 seconds. Then, you have to add the pickles, then the ketchup, and lastly the onions. If the manager catches you doing anything other than that, be prepared to be fired and possibly spend the rest of your life in prison!

I smoked in line at a Burger King as late as 2001. Times were different. They were grosser. They... they weren't "good," necessarily, but in many ways they were more enjoyable.
When you look back to 1999 from 2023 it doesnt seem that long ago but when you look back at 2003 to 1979 it seems way way different. Just kinda weird. Maybe its me lol.
That's exactly how I've always felt, especially considering that I graduated high school in 2003. I think it feels like that because of the rapid changes that happened with society, there was SO many different cultural trends, music genres, styles, etc. that have come and gone during that era in between 1979 and 2003. I remember thinking in 2000 that 1990 seemed completely different even though it was only 10 years ago at that time. The rise of the internet at the time has alot to do with that feeling I think.
So that's how Burger King used to do their burgers.... 1) Cooked burger comes out from top of broiler, with toasted buns coming out from bottom. 2) Person puts burger into buns, then places them into a warm storage bin. 3) When a burger is ordered, person removes burger from bin, takes off the top bun, places meat with bottom bun into microwave to quickly warm it up, then adds toppings and top bun. Nowadays, it seems to be: 1) Cooked burger comes out from broiler, and is placed into warming tray. 2) When a burger is ordered, person grabs fresh buns from bun package, drops it into quick toaster, takes warmish meat from warming tray, and assembles hamburger. 3) Microwaving is forbidden unless asked for by customer (which I do).
Guess it depends on freshness too. Seems like at bk the burgers are premade on that rack. But at McDonald's they don't make it until they get the order
We had a water game at our Burger King back then. You drop change in thru the top of the aquarium thing and there was little pedestals in water you would try and land the change on for free food. You could move the pedestals with knobs and the smaller the pedestal, the bigger the prize. Good times.
The Wild Wild West cutout! Nice! I woulda been going on 10 at this time. In Ohio I don't remember seeing anyone smoking in Burger King, our state outlawed indoor smoking in January 2007. Prior to that as a kid and teen I remember the smoking sections. Eventhough I don't smoke, I actually like seeing indoor smoking when I visit Vegas. Takes me back to a time before everyone got so sensitive. I was in a pool league in 2004 and recall the smoky pool hall and the employee behind the desk would hand you the rack and balls with a lit cigarette hanging out of his mouth. And my first job was at a restaurant where I'd have to ask people "Party of 2? Will that be for smoking or non?"
I was 34 in 99 and had given up smoking by then. Those who I know who continued to smoke died of cancer, heart attack or severe COPD. It is not worth it. I was happy when they got rid of smoking in all places in NY.
I was laughing about the guy ordering while smoking a cigarette but I do remember well when this was still allowed in restaurants here in Michigan and all fast food chains had a smoking section. I worked in the restaurant industry when laws started changing and they finally banned indoor smoking but there was a way around this for employees in the beginning because we could smoke in the back office...just not the dining area. Then that got banned too. I used to smoke up until about 2016 but the indoor smoking ban never bothered me but it sure did upset the much older folks back then. 🤣
The problem with looking stuff like that up online, is it often gives mix messages then a definitive answer. Like one group of researchers might say it good that they are wearing gloves, and the other might say it isn't good. It's all as to do with perception too. People nowadays are more grossed out about others handing their food bare handed, then back then. Most local health departments today mandate it too regardless.
I remember restaurants having designated areas for smokers. Never remember anyone being rude enough to smoke their cigs in the general population. I can’t stand the smell of cigarettes. Anyway so glad they got rid of them in public space.
I think most people will always look backwards on society and say it was better when. .. the 90s are no exception as population explodes we will always wish for simpler times.
Those tenders man…they were the best thing ever with some of the BK bbq sauce. I’m still upset they were taken off the menu, and I have no idea why. They were fantastic and I’d be so happy to see them come back (and I don’t think I’m alone). If anyone from BK sees this, bring back the damn tenders and redeem yourselves.

I would have been 9 here and it wasn't until I was 15 that a vote was passed to say no smoking in restaurants where I live, but I don't remember people smoking in shops (even though I should because I have family members that did and say they did when they could). The thing that grossed me out here though was the guy sticking his fingers on the patty. Heck, the no gloves are kind of gross. I know some (or many) professional cooks don't like to wear gloves because it might signify a lack of washing hands, but I always prefer to not have someone else's bare hands on my food, haha. I haven't been to a fast-food restaurant in a year or so, but I think they wear gloves now.
Late 90's was awesome. Good economy, people were happier, no social media.
People think were just BSing like every other generation when we say this but were the first generation that actually might be right. Other generations are BSing, the 30's please no modern medicine or tech and the Great Depression, The 40's World War II, the Holocaust, The R*pe of Nanking enough said, The 50's RACISM rampant out in the open, so no it was NOT a golden time for all, The 60's civil unrest, segregation, Vietnam, just a mess, the 70's a little better but not as good as the 80's or 90's, the 80's not bad tbh but the Crack epidemic, and the war on Drugs was destroying countless lives, the 90's was as good as it got, we had the internet but it was no all consuming, no social media, no ridiculous brainwashing ideologies spread nation wide, and even if it was not all that great it sure was better than any time before and better than post 2001 imo.

90s Outside of school it was less about what car you had, and what clothes you had. Most people had older cars and also everyone had faded clothes. now everybody has a new car each year or clothing worth more than their car.

I don't remember cigarettes being allowed in fast food places when I was a kid in the 90s. But I do remember that when you went to a restaurant, the first question they would ask you is how many? And then right after that the second question was smoking or non? And they literally had half the restaurant for smokers and the other half for non smokers. 😂 Hilarious to think about today, because the WHOLE restaurant smelled like cigs

I worked at Wendy’s mid 1993, a lot different back then. When the manager went into his office to do end of the day figures, we workers would have competitions to see how big a chicken sandwich could be stuffed into our mouths. Great times.

I’m 37 and part of the last generation to grow up without a cell phone glued to my hand. I truly miss how people actually knew how to speak to one another. My first job was at Culver’s in 2002, and it was required you greet everyone that walked in the door as well as thank them when leaving. I still love eating there but man, they barely acknowledge you even when you stand right in front of them. It’s like they don’t know how to talk to anyone unless they are texting them.

Great video! I worked at a Hardee’s in Florida in 1997, and this is bringing back fast food memories! I worked front line (cashier) and my then-boyfriend worked in the kitchen. It was one of the most stressful jobs, due to the constant criticism and staff turnover. You’d have days where half the crew wouldn’t show up, or there would be a new manager after a couple of weeks with different expectations, or the customers would insult you because they didn’t get their food fast enough. Fast food is a tougher job than most people realize.

Yeah, they wear gloves now and just touch everything without changing them. I rarely get fast food, but when I do I always watch the person on the sandwich station touch anything and everything wearing the gloves. At least back in the day, the idea was that you'd wash your hands a lot. There's no way we've helped reduce foodborne illnesses with them.

Well I for one DON'T miss the 90s, at all. Today if I need anything (whether it's a new pair of pants or a pair of roller blades) I can walk 10 feet from my bed to my computer to order it, and it gets delivered to my house in a couple of days. And if I still want to watch the same shows I enjoyed in the 90's ( _X-Files_ , _Beavis and Butthead_ ) I can watch those anytime I want to, without having to wait for a specific time.

They had better tasting burgers (imo) than McDonald's, but the latter had better fries. Mom took us to Carl's Jr back in the late 80s more often, though, because dad got free child meal vouchers from work.

Back when people smiled. Most people don’t know this but back in the 80s and part of the 90s Burger King burgers actually tasted like a flame grilled burger. It wasn’t that plastic they have today.
The one thing that stands out to me, born in 85, it's so peaceful and you can experience what is going on around you through the sound. Everything now is so loud and with loud music or news or whatever. Can't even pump gas without the thing showing you some kind of commercial. No wonder people are crazy now. Simpler times then

Remembers my 1st full-time job in May 2000 at $6 / hr working at BK. We wore green collar shirts with black jeans, along with baseball caps. Had oval nametags. Exact same kitchen layout w/ auto broiler, steamer, fryolator. Funny how rules were different between BKs like we had to shout "hot fries" when emptying them from basket. There was no glove requirements, & this particular BK looked mint in the cleanliness department. Still, was one of my favorite places to work then for 2.5 years. Thanks for sharing.

I was born in 88 and grew up in the 90s. Back then, BK, Pizza Hut , Sizzler (their Salad Bar was outstanding but shit now) Carls Jr, Arby’s, Subway, Taco Bell, and Del Taco were the best. I also miss the days when Pizza Hut used to have arcades/pinball machines. I think 7/11 did at one point too.
Circa 1996-98 I also miss the days as a kid during the summer when my older brother dropped me and my grandma off at Sizzler before we walked across the street to go to Marshalls or Ross.
I also miss the days I hung out and tag along with my older brother and his friends. My brother and I would go to Arby’s and go to his friends’ apartment blasting Pearl Jam and Nine Inch Nails and hearing my brothers beeper go off constantly on the way over there and watch them get shit faced. I can go on forever about these great memories. To this day I listen to Pearl Jam and Nine Inch Nails and watch these old fast food videos and memories like these brings me back!

Little did they know 9/11 was right around the corner. I'm a 90s baby. Grew up in the 00s. Every old head I know always says "ahhh the good ole days". About to turn 27 this year. Everyone here was making $7 an hour or a little more. I'm greatful that I grew up with loving parents and great siblings. I won't complain or say that " I wish I grew up in the 80s or 70s", because them days are long gone. Yeah you all had good music, good fast food, great vehicles, good movies, ect. Tell you what time marches on.
They definitely weren’t making 7/hr. I joined the workforce in 03 and the min wage was 5.15

As a kid, smoking in restaurants seemed so normal to me. A few years ago though, I was eating with my family when an old man decided to start smoking his cigarette while sitting at the table in front of us. I guess his memory was starting to slip. We all looked at each other, not really sure what to do😂

Born in 89, I loved the Burger King Chicken Sandwiches, but like in 2007 driving to the beach me and my brother got sick from a sketchy Burger King and I haven't eaten there since. I do remember that Wild West cardboard cutout, and I had one of those Wild West BK toys. Guess BK thought it was going to be a huge hit and Will Smith had that Wild West song, but man that movie sucked even when I saw it in theaters as a kid.

The minimum wage was around $5.00/hr, but people took pride in their jobs back then. Now, it is different.

Everyone is shocked how they aren't wearing gloves, yet fail to realize, pretty much no restaurant makes their cooks wear gloves other than fast food places. Regular restaurants, the cooks hands are all over your food.

I've worked at 3 BKs in my life with 4 and 11 year gaps in between from California to Pennsylvania and we never made our Whoppers like that. The buns are supposed to be either in a steamer or dropped through the toaster after the customer orders, and the Whopper patties are supposed to be placed in trays so that they can soak in their own juices and then placed in hear chutes to stay hot. The only time you're allowed to do what they did in this video is if the customer asks for the Whopper patties to be straight from the broiler, in which case they'd have to wait way longer. Even then, though, those buns are not to be taken out and unless they're freshly toasted. Everything in BK's sandwich making process that might seem benign or irrelevant to an outsider is straight up law for those who work there because they've conducted taste studies throughout the years so that everything is perfect. Like, you can't just assemble a Whopper any which way you want so long as all the ingredients and condiments are the same. You have to put mayo on the top bun, then add the lettuce, then the tomato. While doing that, the bottom bun with the beef patty is supposed to get nuked with or without cheese for 10 seconds. Then, you have to add the pickles, then the ketchup, and lastly the onions. If the manager catches you doing anything other than that, be prepared to be fired and possibly spend the rest of your life in prison!

I'd forgotten all about the microphones that the cashiers would use to call out orders to the kitchen. Wow. 1999 was the year my son was born. Seems like just yesterday, yet it was so long ago.

My BK in 2000 didn't have microphones. We just yelled when something important came up.
I smoked in line at a Burger King as late as 2001. Times were different. They were grosser. They... they weren't "good," necessarily, but in many ways they were more enjoyable.
I remember places that had smoking and none smoking areas.
When you look back to 1999 from 2023 it doesnt seem that long ago but when you look back at 2003 to 1979 it seems way way different. Just kinda weird. Maybe its me lol.
That's exactly how I've always felt, especially considering that I graduated high school in 2003. I think it feels like that because of the rapid changes that happened with society, there was SO many different cultural trends, music genres, styles, etc. that have come and gone during that era in between 1979 and 2003. I remember thinking in 2000 that 1990 seemed completely different even though it was only 10 years ago at that time. The rise of the internet at the time has alot to do with that feeling I think.
I don't think cigarette guy is fully committed to wearing that hat....

So that's how Burger King used to do their burgers....
1) Cooked burger comes out from top of broiler, with toasted buns coming out from bottom.
2) Person puts burger into buns, then places them into a warm storage bin.
3) When a burger is ordered, person removes burger from bin, takes off the top bun, places meat with bottom bun into microwave to quickly warm it up, then adds toppings and top bun.
Nowadays, it seems to be:
1) Cooked burger comes out from broiler, and is placed into warming tray.
2) When a burger is ordered, person grabs fresh buns from bun package, drops it into quick toaster, takes warmish meat from warming tray, and assembles hamburger.
3) Microwaving is forbidden unless asked for by customer (which I do).
They actually brought back the microwaves!

We had a water game at our Burger King back then. You drop change in thru the top of the aquarium thing and there was little pedestals in water you would try and land the change on for free food. You could move the pedestals with knobs and the smaller the pedestal, the bigger the prize. Good times.

The Wild Wild West cutout! Nice! I woulda been going on 10 at this time. In Ohio I don't remember seeing anyone smoking in Burger King, our state outlawed indoor smoking in January 2007. Prior to that as a kid and teen I remember the smoking sections.
Eventhough I don't smoke, I actually like seeing indoor smoking when I visit Vegas. Takes me back to a time before everyone got so sensitive. I was in a pool league in 2004 and recall the smoky pool hall and the employee behind the desk would hand you the rack and balls with a lit cigarette hanging out of his mouth. And my first job was at a restaurant where I'd have to ask people "Party of 2? Will that be for smoking or non?"
Employees appeared engaged and mature
I was 34 in 99 and had given up smoking by then. Those who I know who continued to smoke died of cancer, heart attack or severe COPD. It is not worth it. I was happy when they got rid of smoking in all places in NY.

I was laughing about the guy ordering while smoking a cigarette but I do remember well when this was still allowed in restaurants here in Michigan and all fast food chains had a smoking section. I worked in the restaurant industry when laws started changing and they finally banned indoor smoking but there was a way around this for employees in the beginning because we could smoke in the back office...just not the dining area. Then that got banned too. I used to smoke up until about 2016 but the indoor smoking ban never bothered me but it sure did upset the much older folks back then. 🤣

The problem with looking stuff like that up online, is it often gives mix messages then a definitive answer. Like one group of researchers might say it good that they are wearing gloves, and the other might say it isn't good. It's all as to do with perception too. People nowadays are more grossed out about others handing their food bare handed, then back then. Most local health departments today mandate it too regardless.

I remember restaurants having designated areas for smokers. Never remember anyone being rude enough to smoke their cigs in the general population. I can’t stand the smell of cigarettes. Anyway so glad they got rid of them in public space.
I think most people will always look backwards on society and say it was better when. .. the 90s are no exception as population explodes we will always wish for simpler times.

I would have been 9 here and it wasn't until I was 15 that a vote was passed to say no smoking in restaurants where I live, but I don't remember people smoking in shops (even though I should because I have family members that did and say they did when they could). The thing that grossed me out here though was the guy sticking his fingers on the patty. Heck, the no gloves are kind of gross. I know some (or many) professional cooks don't like to wear gloves because it might signify a lack of washing hands, but I always prefer to not have someone else's bare hands on my food, haha. I haven't been to a fast-food restaurant in a year or so, but I think they wear gloves now.
