  • What's an MAN like to drive with 617,000 Kms on the clock?
I got 251,000 Kms out of my rear drive Michelin X-Multi HD D Tyres on the SCANIA S 580 V8,, so now it's time to have them changed.
Then it's off to New York to spot some trucks and visit some pubs lol.....

Hello Mr. Stavros, as always very very nice. IF you ever are in Canada I would love to show you around and introduce you to the Coquihalla highway. ( I have sent you an email, details should be there) As a former EU driver, I always enjoyed how (At least to my perception) quiet they where, but very much disliked how floaty they seemed compared to a Volvo or Merc.

    Hi Stavros.
I have driven many kms in a 19.480 TGX made in 2018 or so (meaning with the same interior and equipment), and with the EXACT same blind spot, but then on the driver's side being a LHD. Nearing a roundabout is always a very perilous and uncomfortable thing to do, forcing a much slower approach than would have been necessary.
Beside the fact it is bad as such, I have always wondered how this obvious issue could escape MAN's test-driving programme at the time the truck was being designed. Left me wondering if they did any at all, or if the test drivers really were serious about their job...
Anyhow, thanks for the great video as always. Greetings from Switzerland.

Something a bit irrelevant that I 've noticed....I freezed the video in 11:15 and I see 8 cars which their brand signs are , more or less, visible. If I am correct , I can see four Toyota, one Hyundai, one Lexus , one Mercedes, one Volvo and ....one Chevy!!! Now , I know that many european, japanese etc car brands have factories in the US....but is actually everything ok with the american car industry?

Hi Stavros. Glad you and Sarah, enjoyed your trip to the N.Y. Boroughs. 👍
Those Kenworth Tractors are terrible to drive 6x4 with narrow cabs. You can actually reach the passenger door sitting in the drivers seat. The (tippers) or dump trucks as they are called are mini wheelers. They are 6x4 with a twin wheel fixed pusher axle. They max out at 73000lb around 32,000kgs. Due to their short wheelbase they fight you on every turn. Many drivers dump their air on the pusher as they turn corners to reduce the fight and tire scrub. Tridems with steerable rear lift or floating axles as are available in Europe would be a huge step forward. Tractor trailers are usually 6x4 plus tandem axle trailers at 80000lb - 36,000kgs and some tractor trailer (artic) with dump trailers on 6 axles with tri axle trailers run at 88000lb 40,000kgs. Axle weights are a lot lower as standard but certain States have exceptions for GVW on many more axles and configurations with in that State only. In State transport is known as Intrastate, transport between one or more States is Interstate.
I just returned from a trip to Britain and believe me European trucks, trailers and transport methods are far ahead of anything in the States.
The gap used to be 10 years, but due to Volvo and Mack (Renault), Daf ( Kenworth and Pererbilt) and Mercedes Benz (Freightliner) it’s about 5 years now regards comfort, drivability and technology.
Great video as usual. Cheers 🥂🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇺🇸

You forgot about International (Scania and MAN).

    • @pauljohn6637
      @pauljohn6637 Год назад

@@kristoffermangila Yes I did, but I haven’t seen any change in the Internationals. They are using mostly Cummins engines after the disastrous Mass EGR saga using a MAN block.
I drove a number of them at the time and our downtime was causing lots of problems sometimes doing parked REGENS twice a day. That’s an hour lost that’s hard to make up on tight relay schedules.
Was it the MX 13? I believe Cummins now supply the fuel, EGR, and DEF system for that engine.
It will be interesting to see what Scania/MAN are going to do in the future.
I had always thought Iveco May of been interested in a partnership with Navistar!
      Thanks for the reply.

@@pauljohn6637 well, its only a few weeks since International introduced that new I6 engine (to the disappointment of quite a few who wanted a Scania-derived V8), so its very early days. As for Iveco being interested in Navistar, its probably a case of being beaten to the punch by Traton.

Hi Stavros, long term subscriber here.
If you don't mind sharing - what method do you use to price your artic haulage work in Ireland for customers (e.g. do you have a base fee for a load and then fee per km on top, or some other method)? Interested to hear.
Obviously there are countless variables, but it would be great to know the general approach. Thanks.

Hi stavros 969 I'm your subscriber 5 years ago until now i love watching your videos about trucks and buses. For me here in the Philippines the MAN trucks and buses are the best trucks and buses, years and years ago because of the road condition before the bus and the trucks of MAN are tested uphill downhill with a very heavy loads until now the trucking and bus company here are choosing the MAN trucks and buses. But the game is changed in the year now because of the VOLVO, SCANIA, MERCEDEZ, IVECO, DAF trucks are also here like it's their choice because we have the variant here from Japanese trucks, European Trucks, Chinese trucks, also Indian trucks

MAN is not good truck at all, specially when you are driving high hills & down hills with fully loaded trailer. In 2001 the head quarter of MAN here in Bavaria nearly forced to closed down the truck & bus division. Many transport companies over here are demanding compensation from MAN due to poor performances of their MAN trucks. Lucky our company in Hamburg compensated in 2014 and we are still waiting the court decision against Mercedes, hopefully we will them. By the way, VOLVO & SCANIA trucks are already sold out over here.
