Don't ever knock yourself down because the phone's out of focus or something Colt - that was the best Video on the subject I've seen yet! Just what I needed for my 2019 F-450... already had the resistor prepped, have the corrugated tubing, wire, soldering experience, etc. - just wasn't sure about the layout on the newer trucks! Your video did the trick - Thank You SIR! I'm even going to stuff a second wire in the tubing just for future use (pull wire, or whatever) before I zip-tie it in place across the firewall.
ALSO - IMPORTANT NOTE!!!
There are TWO yellow/green wires on that SOB plug - pin 7 (which you want for Diesel) and pin 18 (which Ford uses for Gas trucks - should have been a different color you fools)! Mine were crossed in the bundle and I spent two days retracing my steps, trying to figure out why my S1 would not turn on the high idle - voltages traced all the way down to the plug, to the yel/grn wire - had no voltage across the resistor BUT it was good and wired right. Finally, a guy on F450 FB Page said he had connected to 18 by mistake and it was never selecting the "Mode"!!! Duh!

Finstad Skidloader service yea its really nice! I’ve got a xlt and I can basically give it everything a lariat has and actually more then some lariats for a lot less. I’ve done a lot to mine so far and plan to do more.

Next mod for my 18 f250 platinum for sure! I was able to do a work around and make my upfitters 1-6 hot 24/7. Only have 5,6 hot wasn't enough for me.

Waiting on my resistors to come in now. I also learned that wire #2 can be used for a remote turn on for an amplifier. Then to Suncoast for tuning the subs.

I've got my current dash cam wired to power on when the truck has power (AUX or running). But I like the idea of always on. With the dual battery on the F250, I assume the risk of the camera draining the battery is extremely low, right? Like weeks without running low?

Hi there. So after u start the pickup then turn switch on and hit parking brakes it turns on. Then release brake and it turns off. Can u leave the switch on and press the parking brake again will it idle back up or do u have to shut the pickup back off and start over?
yea you can just press it again. you dont have to turn it back off. also if you are in high idle and you hit the regular brake or gas pedal it will come out of high idle. but dont worry about leaving the switch on. sometimes i just pull the ebrake and start driving and forget to turn switch off. it doesnt matter.
@@COLTSWAY thanks, I was asking cause I know I could do it without upfitter switches but would only be able to do it once then I would have to shut the truck off and start it again to do it again. The upfitter switch sounds nice since u don't have to shut the pickup off to turn it back on. Thanks again

Will it idle up instantly during cold start or will it ramp up the rpm after everything gets to a certain temperature?
Garrett Vowk if you leave the parking break engaged and leave the upfitter on, it will do it soon as you start it up. In the winter when I park it I just leave break on and upfitter. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe! 🇺🇸
I’m no expert, but I’ve always heard it’s bad to rev up diesels before they’re truly warm. Which is why I assume the truck, while it will automatically go to a high idle after it’s warm, I assume that is why it doesn’t high idle right off the bat.
I have Ford Xl 250 diesel. The dealership installed this high idle on my Aux 1. I see what’s its for. But my question is I work out I the oilfield and leave my truck running mostly all day ..
How would you recommend me to use it his high idling

bobby casarez I use mine anytime I idle. These new diesels are different then old ones without emissions. It’s not good for them to idle like old school ones. So when I idle, I have the high idle engaged.
My exhaust over the limit light service light came on.
I drove it for a good 80 miles this afternoon. To work and it didn’t clean the exhaust so now the exhaust over the limit service light came on.
I have to take to the dealership to take care of this.
Does the truck still regen even when the high idle is on ?
bobby casarez mine does sometimes and sometimes it doesn’t. Sounds like it’s time for you to delete. Going to continue to have these problems if you idle all day in these new trucks.

My pass through wires are tucked up so far under the passenger floor board it is unreal. I can’t fit my hand back there and I don’t have a 45° needle nose pliers that long. How did you reach way back in there?
Disregard. I’m not dicking with this mod and the pass through wires. 12v solutions has an inexpensive plug and play kit that doesn’t involve running wires or mounting a potentiometer. I still want to get those pass through wires down though.

With a 1/4 watt the engine wont rev up as high. Would barley be a high idle
Question here… on very cold mornings when the truck shifts I notice some hesitation during shifts in all gears but yeasterday and today it thumped hard when shifting in to 6th going up hill and once on flat land. The fluid is not low so that not the prob. Lately there’s been a loud wine coming from the front of the truck at idle and when I begin to accelerate until around 1200rpm then it stops. Do I need a high idle installed to warm the trans up or could this be a different issue? Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks for the video btw.

Any specific reason you used a half watt resistor? I’ve seen some use 1/4 watt and 1 watt. Do you know if it matters?
Cameron Johnston From my understanding the higher the resistor the higher the idle is. I’m not 100% but pretty positive that’s the difference. The 1/2 a watt put me between 1200-1500 rpm. Thanks for watching. If you don’t mind please like and subscribe, trying to grow this channel!

COLTS WAY thanks for responding. The 20k is the resistance and that’s what gives you the rpm. I was curious as to wattage choice. I’ve seen other videos with 20k resisters of different wattages with the same results. Just wondering if wattage actually mattered and why. Have you had any issues to date with the half what 20k you put in?
To be honest I only used the 1/2 watt because I saw someone else use that so I knew it would work. And no, I have not had any problems with my high idle. Used it today actually. It’s been flawless ever since I did it. 🇺🇸

Hey COLTSASTALLION, I just purchsed a 2018 f250 platinum and a blackview 900. Can you expand a little on your comment about the "dashcam wire"? Did you wire it to an upfitter switch?
Commercialvoice he said it’s currently not wired to a switch but directly to the battery. You can wire to a switch if you wanted and run it off the 40 amp switches. You would just need to configure the switches to run off the battery.

If you follow his video but use either switch 5 or 6 you can wire your cam to the Upfitter Switches. Then just move the fuse so that way the switch will run off the battery without the need of the truck being on.

How did you find out what wires to use on the pigtail? I don’t have upfitters and am trying to hardwire my radar in but can’t figure out which wire if any is just a power
If you don’t have upfitters I wouldn’t think you would have the wires?
It’s not the upfitters wires but the “pto” harness you put the 20ohm into
Cameron Peschel you don’t use those to hardwire anything. Run a wire from your battery to the pass threw wires. Splice it above the firewall and below.

All be damned there two yellow & green wires in that harness by the fuse panel, I had 50/50 odds and of course I picked the wrong one. The pass thru wires are a great idea but boy they make them about as helpful as not having them

Yes. Mine came stock, some do and some don’t. But I did see a video on fb about how to add them.

Thanks Adam, there are lots of reasons but quicker warmups, say maybe you had a PTO winch. And for extended idle periods as idling Isn’t great for a diesel. I use it all winter though as it does warm the truck up faster. Maybe you were running a good bit of electronics or winching for an extended period of time. Just helps keep the voltage up as well. Colt, I have a 2021 Super Duty 6.7L ordered, and have a question: how did you learn of your high idle mod? Looks like a great mod, and much less expensive than some $100+ high idle KIT. I bet the 'kit" has the same resistor covered with a fancy plastic box with plug & play on either end. I'm certainly not doubting your mod, as it clearly works...I'm just wondering how you stumbled across it. Thank you

Can I ask why you didn't use the upfitter wires at the kick panel instead of the eng bay ?
Because those upfitter wires don’t pass threw to the cab. The only pass threw wires are on the passenger side that I used.

What would need high idle for?
I use it to warm up faster in the morning. They say idling is good for these new trucks so if in high idle i assume its better. Also if you run a lot of accessories on a job site or something.

Whats the reason for this?
rfugate2002 for when it’s freezing outside and no matter how long you let it run in the morning it will not build heat. Oil or water temp. It usually takes 10 plus miles with tow/haul and engine brake on to start producing any heat at all

also for alot of our work trucks down south when its really really hot. sometimes we sit still so long at idle that the ac gets warm, unless we drive around a minute. but with a high idle it helps that as well. or if you are running a ton of accessories...winch...lights. etc.

Damn it. Couldn’t get mine to work. watch over and over should of been simple but F no‼️I have a 17..looks like I connected that 1/2 ohms to the white/brown and a brown and should of been white/brown and green. Even after doing that and soldered a new 1/2 ohms it still not working..did I blow a fuse? How do I test that shit? And yes I put the EBrake and flip the up switch #1 forward and it lights up yellow. Help please.thanks Colt
Only thing I can think of is you got the wrong wire hooked up coming from the pass threw wires. Did you double check that?
