HOT ROD Magazine Buick Barn Find Rescue Part 2
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 3 июн 2011
- This is the story of a '66 Buick Special convertible that had been abandoned in Arizona in 1978 by the family of Rick Pewe, editor of 4-Wheel & Off-Road magazine. In 2011, the guys from HOT ROD Magazine, in conjunction with Rick, spent four days bringing the car back from the dead with plans to drive it home from Phoenix to Los Angeles. This is part 2, loaded with road-trip hilarity. The story is printed in the September 2011 issue of HOT ROD Magazine.

So this is Roadkill before Roadkill was Roadkill! Great start guys!
+Dominic Racca Roadkill episode 0
Dominic Racca this is the concept idea for roadkill, this is what made them start the show if I'm not mistaken he said it would be in he magazine in September of 2011 LOL
@@mattmopar440 Roadkill episode 0 part 1 and 2
I love how Freiburger is always wearing flip flops when working on car
its for da weight reduction bro for da betah acceleration XD
Hood off and everything, this was truly Roadkill in the making.
I wonder -- When Finnegan hired on to Hot Rod Magazine, he maybe thought he would be behind a desk pushing paper. But he ends up behind a car....pushing.
Miss these episodes, although ten years ago hope these shows don't stop anytime soon bringing classic cars back to life.
Oh WHY couldn't have these guys have hosted Top Gear US :(
You guys have definately got better at this over the course of Roadkill. I enjoy watching every episode
Me to but there has to be more low rider stof reply at valerioroacks57@gmail.com
+Chris Servoss Same here. It's like RUclips knew
Chris Servoss I like the earliest stuff the best tbh
I remember watching this when it first aired there was about 10 views. I thought it was great taking a cool old car driving it home and fixing it on the way thinking that takes balls.lol
Now that I'm done watching this, I can finally call myself a hard core roadkill fan :-D
Watching these Buick episode for the millionth time, classic wish we saw more Buick special on the show awesome car..
This episode should be called "Roadside Garage".
Sounds like a name for a show
Anyone watching this after seeing the Barn-Find Buick Roadkill Extra episode?
eeyup
TheAmerican GT yes haha
This and the Crop Duster are now my favourite "Roadkill Vehicles"..Buick Special, now on my bucket list.....
I miss this type of content. Great episode probably my favourite.
same, the worst thing was when roadkill went corporate
oh the humble beginnings of roadkill
Glad you're digging it, everyone. Cool.
Do one of these show in Jamaica would be great
Would love for you to bring back the old episodes of engine masters and roadkill back to RUclips.
Skyler Pratt Corporate greed ain't gonna let that happen.
this was my first video that was not called road kill from these guys... am so into these video's.. best entertainment on RUclips.... Friend & I flu out to Cali in 2000 drove a 75 nova back to Detroit... had about as much fun as these guys.. through the desert with no air!, alt. was over charging had to run every power item it had!, and had to pour oil in it about every hundred miles.. (the oil pan gasket was gone) so my hats off to these guys ! thanks again! Hot Rod Rocks!!
Classic roadkill!
All the things that make Roadkill great originated here!
"the Mike and Dave show" sit I do believe that you mean "the pre-decesor to roadkill" lol
Furbie, you and Finnegan are awesome!!! I once drove 30+ miles with no brakes. Emegency foot pedal only!! You are my heroes!
I did the hood trick with my 95 Camaro when I bought a 50 inch plasma tv from Best buy. The best buy guys were convinced I'd have to pay for a delivery truck untill I put the soft top back and loaded the TV in the back seat. :)
Great episode. I rescued my uncle's 1975 Pontiac Catalina. It sit the last 10 years of it's life with a original 46.866 miles on the car. First thing was to get it to start that determined tires and rebuilding the engine. With little effort of the timing system carburetor starter and battery she runs. I've owned it a year now every part engine wise is new and rebuilt bottom up. New break system all around and tires. THM400 transmission rebuilt. Im inside now redoing the interior. Body very little rust if any. Mostly surface. Jute and carpet left to do then off to new paint.
Love this story. Road trips like this one and the Crusher Camaro are awesome. Reminds me of when I drove my Wife's 67 Mustang 300 miles the day I bought it and all the little problems it had. Not as many as you guys, I did it in six hours since it was an anniversary present, so it had to be "under the radar".
I bought a 69 Lemans 2dr that sat in a barn for about 10 years. It was 40 miles from home and i didnt have a way to haul it, so i decided to get it going and drive it home. The brakes pumped up, trans worked( minus reverse), coil was bad. The only prob i had was overheating. It was an awesome experience driving that 50$ car home all covered in dust! I could'nt believe that it made it. It had duals with glasspack mufflers rusted out, and it sounded pretty cool, lucky i did'nt meet any police!
Cant get why this level of production and effort wont get 5 million intead of 500k, one of the best YT channels and IMHO, the best Roadkill ever. Thanks to the Hot Rod staff for this video.
G'day guys a job well done, I picked up a copy of the mag yesterday & read the article so I thought I'd check out the vids & I'm impressed that the old school mentallity of fix it & drive it is still alive.
Iv'e done this sort of thing a few times in my life time & like I say to my kids, half the fun is the journey to getting there..
Great episode! I have a Buick 300 V8 in a 1970 CJ5 with a switch pitch (AKA- VP) Turbo 400 automatic. The 300 is the engine the two front cylinders were removed to make the 225 odd fire V6 my CJ5 came with factory. The 300 bolted in with the Jeep V6 factory frame motor mount position. The 300 was produced from 64 to 67 with a cast iron block and aluminum heads and intake except 67 that was all cast iron, mine is a 64 block with 67 heads and intake. Still runs great today!!! And Yes, it still runs the 2 jet Rochester carburetor!
I’m so angry discovery blocked part 1 this is one of my go to nostalgia rewatches
Owned a 69 Buick Special 2dr and limped it home with a leaky brake hose. Did a four wheel overhaul with everything new including the master cylinder before I drove it again. Daily drove it for about a year until the water pump bolts broke inside the aluminum timing cover about 40 miles from home.
wickenburg, my home town. cool to see you guys there.
One of the most Roadkill episodes of Roadkill ever
Wow reminds me of some of the cross country cruises I did in the 70s and 80s. Loved the video way to go boys
Finnigan always wears a hate inside but never outside. I like his style
im buying a 66 skylark hardtop very soon, and i cant stop watching this over and over again.haha
Sometimes when I'm in the middle of no where in my 91 corvette, I start thinking about, I wonder if that ignition module is original, I wonder if the guy I bought this car from ever put a fuel pump in it. Constantly thinking about what might fail. After watching you guys in this video, I completely trust my old heap now. It really looks like fun what you guys do, I'm sure it has its moments.
Cool story! the best part is they KNEW stuff WOULD break down, and they fixed it and kept on the road. This would make a cool cross country story...
I haven't read a HotRod magazine in probably 15 to 18 years. Well after this I'm heading out to buy one and if its as good as I remember I'm subscribing again after all these years. This is about the greatest series of videos I have ever seen. You guys are the perfect odd couple to pull this off. Thanks for some great entertainment.
Roadkill before roadkill, you guys are champs
this brings memories of my youth flooding back.
Had to watch this again :P and also they should do something with this buick again!
love the legit 70's rock soundtrack backdrop.
11 years ago...man I've been watching a long time
I like the part with modifying the fuel system. For me, that means, get a hose in a bottle under the hood for the pump to suck gas out of until you get to a shop. You just have to stop often to refill it, but it'll get ya there :D
gotta love this pre roadkill stuff
this is my favored car show on the tube! the road trips are funny as ! love it
This was awesome! Always interesting to find how much more you get from reading than watching - something todays RUclips gen may NEVER find out!
CLASSIC ROADKILL AT ITS BEST.
hood in the trunk, this is definitely close enough to roadkill in my opinion!
This was great! Please do more barn find restorations!
Oh man do I have news for you
I think this trip might be the first Roadkill. Does it not predate the Catalina? Roadkill before Roadkill was cool.
roadkill episode 0
It out dates Roadkill episode 1 by over a year
This is how roadkill was born actually, motortrend aproached freiburger and finnigan after a series of popular videos on the hot rod channel.
Those are some badass mechanics!
You guys are amazing! I would pay to go on one of those trips/ adventure.
You must live a boring life.
Love this!!!Love the show!!! Please keep making more!!!
I did something like this with a buddy of mine. It involved a 1952 ford hay truck, a tractor battery, lots of beer and lucky we didn't go to jail hindsight. It was rusted so bad, it had no manifolds on one side of the engine (read threw flames). No floor boards, and everytime we take a turn too quick we'd have to get out and slide the cab back onto the frame. Good times.
awesum video. When I saw your facebook post I thought "Wisk, the laundry soap, no way!" now I see it, and holy crap LOL. great story makes me want to try it, looks like a great adventure. I LOL'd when I saw your goggles in preperation for the impending rain. hahahaha, you guys rock.
Great video guys. Would love to see you do more barn find videos like this one. I enjoyed watching this.
Best True Hot Rodders On The Road Adventure, period !

You guys are crazy you guys make my day party on dudes.
Sweet! Awesome story.

Love it ! This was fun to watch! MORE!!!! :)
Anyone other RK fans still come back to this 12 years later? Lol
OMG, the Horseshoe café in Wickenburg. Yummy!
That tire shop was Bob's Tire Coral in Tempe! I have crazy tire hookups there and get them dirt cheap
Back in the day I put a Wildcat 445 in a 1980 Monte Carlo. Low end torque was ridiculous.
geez all that hard work n u guys get no brakes.no pun intended
"the Mike and Dave show" haha
Taco Mio in Quartzite is AWESOME I love that place.
I won't drive a jalopy without Summertime Fresh. I just won't do it. Love the videos guys
You guys should do more videos like this and with this lenght not 1-2 minutes, I really really enjoyed this one!
12:30 - had the same problem with those. Two in a row needed the 'tab adjustment'..and then failed anyway, shortly after.
760 is a rocket ship and rock solid as hell. tired to see one of these abused at Davidsfarm, this car run like the champ no matter what you do to it. Both fast and reliable. Wish a 760 or even better and 850 T5 R .... Shame that are FWD, tons of power.
I had this exact same trip in my old 87 GMC 3500 15 years ago driving from Boston to Santa Cruz. Cooling hell problems. Than steering pump bearing fail that started eating belts after belt. Many a night slept at Advance auto or a random NAPA in the middle of nowhere.
Why didn't they buy a new radiator if they bought so many other new parts for this car?
This is a real road adventure...
You guys have Way too much fun =)
Great Video!
Dust storm? Welcome to Arizona!
Love The Mike and Dave show!
I love it i always wanted old convertible
Can't show the fuel system mod? Humm...gas can being filled in the forground and put in the trunk, hose to the fuel pump. Seems obvious to me.
I think replacing or at least flushing out the gas tank on a car that's been sitting for 30 years would have been pretty close to the top of my list of things to do before driving it. No need to put three fuel filters on the line to keep all the rust from getting to the engine that way. But you still made the trip, so call me crazy.
U guys always Rolling
awesome plain and simpley awesome!
It's like roadkill lite
PURE Roadkill to me
I bought a 85 chevy truck that was green with mold only wanted the motor a big block 454 chevy it had been setting under a carport for 20 years instead of taking the motor out I just was playing around seeing what I could get going runs great fixed a/c power steering everything on it I payed 400.00 the truck maybe 500.00 more in it been using it around my place for 2 years great truck cold air no radio it keep pluging the fuel filter geee like every 100 mile I went to napa bought a relocator kit fuel filter its like a oil filter mount and filter cured problem don't know if I will ever take the engine out of her! Fun stuff real fun! These guys are nuts I love it!
nice work
this would be a very popular tv show
Yes of course =) Except the 760´s with the PRV V6 engine.. Turbobricks FTW! ;)
ahhhhh the glory of the buick 300CI Nailhead
I swear iv never seen finnegan without a hat, until now.
One word: Subscribed!
Even tho I'm a diehard moparguy, I just love your roadkill episodes.
Anything new with the Buick?
Keep up the good work.
That was such a cool video!!!!
Nice save, it is a survivor.
Oh man this is cool!
Im doing something like this myself. A 79 blazer. Its been sitting in my moms yard for about 15 years. Its got a LOT of family history. I just got the title and Im gonna be rebuilding it soon. I couldnt believe it but I got the engine running just with basic maintenance know how and some creativity. Cant wait. Anyone watching owes it to themselves at some point to try this.
6:00 Freiburger turns into scooby doo!
Pre-Roadkill Roadkill!
Hey, David and Mike, maybe you should do a monthly
internet show. Call it RoadKill! :D
(Next time you're here in Mesa, let us know.)
