    Episode 137
In this episode of "Barn Find Hunter," Tom discovers cars the organic way, by driving around and looking for Cars in yards, in hopes of more inside barns or garages. In doing so, Tom discovers a Triumph stag on a dead end road that leads him to the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. A treasure trove of forgotten vacation cars hidden in 100yr old barns.

Absolutely one of the best episodes on BFH. This gentleman needed more time to bavard, because even with a small sample size, his wit is was so captivating. I surmise that he is a story-teller in the vein of the best story-tellers. He needs to be a regular on the program. Make it happen!

I had a 1976 BMW 2002 and it was my favorite car, of all time, by far. Handling was exceptional. Bought used from a BMW dealer in 1980, in great shape, traded in by the original owner who was getting one of the new 320i's. My 2002 had the 4 speed, I would not have wanted an automatic. Driving the 5 freeway from northern Calif to Southern I would usually cruise at 85 and that was something close to 4,000 rpms.

My Dad's 1976 2002 (Fully built 2.0 with a 3 series 5spd) has been rotting in his driveway for the last 20+ years. It was his baby. He was going to restore it in the early 2000s but instead he decided to reset his life in 2004 and raise/adopt my niece and nephew. My niece is 22 and nephew is 19. But now he is 71yrs old and the car is too far gone to be affordable to restore. He has had offers but I understand why he won't get rid of it. All of his family memories we're in that car. I sadly never got to drive it, as it was already not running when I got my license. I loved that car as a kid. I even went as far as spending over 4 hours replicating the car's Alpina livery on Forza Horizon 4&5 just so I can drive it (kinda) :). The fact that he would rather watch the car rot vs selling it. Shows me how much he loved that car.

The term “barn find” implies an economic opportunity that really no longer exists. It started to disappear in the early 2000s and is effectively gone. There are no naive sellers in the rural USA underpricing old cars. Even the least informed old dudes have kids advising them with internet search skills. Sometimes cars are marketed as ‘barn finds’ to attract attention,, when the seller is asking far more than the car is worth.

OK... About the Stag: I managed a dealership that sold Triumphs (among other things) when these cars were current, and they were an unmitigated disaster. HORRID quality problems (see English union history), design flaws (the soft top would blow out from the B-pillars at speeds above 70mph, the A/C worked when it wanted to and leaked cold water the rest of the time). We were diligent about doing the PDI service beyond the book, so we didn't have the common head gasket issues, which were inherited by the TR-7s, but simple things like door fit and water leaks into the boot (trunk) were maddening and recurring. The automatic transmissions were prone to slippage and the overdrive units failed far more oftren than one would expect. This resulted in Stag customers being "one and done"; you couldn't trade them out of the car, because used ones were basically worthless and sale-proof, and they went away mad and never came back. So many problems, I could hardly blame them: good idea, rotten execution!

I would be willing to bet that if you gave that Stag to one of You Tube's notorious "Will it Run?" Video creators they would be able to get the stag running and driving at minimal cost. Now depending on how horrid the rust is underneath it may be a running and driving "Sculpure" OR it might be a car that has many more miles left in it. Just because a car has had rodents living in it for years is no reason to count it out. As we've seen time and time again in videos all the time here on YT. I love this channel and our host don't get me wrong I'm just saying I think he's not seeing what the car isn't Necessarily "Done". Because of a huge rodent infestation. Not that it wouldn't be disgusting to clean out, which is one of the more fun and interesting parts of watching "Will it Run?" Videos. LOL.
