I have no doubt that the owner Paddy could have got it up and running entirely independently, but he chose to share it with The Late Brake Show and us. So my thanks and gratitude go to Paddy for inviting us in for a glimpse of this rare car, and to the LBS team for doing what they do.

Then Life fills the void with something else and next thing you know forty years have passed and there's a Johnny at your barn door with a fuel can.
Inspired me to get my, even older, DB MK III going. It's all original and my dad bought it new in 1957, drove it a little and mostly parked it. I fell in love with it, I think before I could walk, and played with it, studied it, and tinkered with it throughout the 70's and 80's. Drove it to high school once, drove it regularly for a while in the mid-80's. It's in the queue for restoration after stripping the trim for painting. No corrosion and all there... Think I'll get started again...
What a car and so good to hear it running. Paddy sounds like a bit of a legend in his own lunch time and so down to earth. Loved the bit where Paddy mentioned getting new fuel to it and you were like, oh...I have that covered, don't you worry. 😏 😂

I was gobsmacked to see this. I interviewed Paddy for a business magazine 15 years or more ago. A great talker and quite matter of fact about his achievements. Τhe Laimos family has been in the shipping business since 1905. Liberty ships were given to a number of Greek ship owners who lost their ships to Germans confiscating them or torpedoed by subs as compensation after WWII. The owner was probably Captain Nikos Laimos who is still alive today at almost 90 years old. His two sons Anton and Fillip continue the family tradition and now they own the ENESEL group of maritime businesses that is worth several billions...
Many thanks for your constructive comments - I take it that the spelling you use 'Laimos' is simply a Greek variant of 'Lemos', as they are listed as owning ENESEL? On the factory build sheet the original owner of the car was a 'Captain Lemos'. From what I can determine, this was Captain Marcos Lemos - his family seemed to think so too when I contacted them. From what you've said it may well be that he was given the Liberty ship because his family had lost one or more vessels to the war.

I was lucky enough to own a DB4 as a young man in the early seventies, a rare interim model just before the 5 was launched, even then I had to have some body work done, the tubular body frame, which the aluminum is crafted around, has padding between the two, this facilitates damp and aluminum corrosion even after just 7/8 years, Restoring the body work on this old girl will take for ever! It was Paddy’s channel today 😂 Too many car RUclipsrs would have tried to talk over Paddy. One of the reasons I love this channel is that when someone knows their stuff you’re happy to let them talk. Absolutely brilliant video 🥰 So glad to hear it fire up in the end 😊
Jonny, never stop doing these! Absolute gold every single time! Been watching you for years since the Fifth Gear days and so glad you started your own YT channel, I subscribed immediately when you first started! Mad respect and big love 👌
These videos could be an hour long and I’d still watch them intensely, especially with such engaging and characterful owners who share stories and tales with you
Anyone else get goosebumps when the DB4 finally fired into life? What a car, and what a garage. Excellent episode once again, thanks Jonny and Paddy (and Rufus of course)!
Paddy Paddy Paddy...you absolute legend!! Our world needs more people like you in it. I shed a tear when it started 😂 As a mechanic I too have worked thru the night on 'projects' (problem cars) and its such an amazing feeling when it works out. Love the show Johny, maybe you could get all of the barn finds together one day and make an event out of it? Awesome work guys 😎
@@TheLateBrakeShow This is a TLBS classic. Have you ever thought about going back to check on progress as the owners try to get them back on the road? I'd love to see if they were able to make any progress. I don't know how you deal with corrosion like that, but I'd love to learn...
Wonderful to see Paddy and Jonny in their element. Helps to remind me why I purchased my 1971 RHD De Tomaso Pantera as a box of bits back in about 1993. Work, life and family have prevented me from getting around to restoring and rebuilding it. The Late Brake Show is definitely giving me the urge to put the time aside to bring the car back to life. One day Jonny I will give you a call and we can lay all the parts out on the drive including the 5.7L V8 engine and the ZF gearbox. Don't worry, I also have another car that has a dynamo, a regulator and a pair of twin 40 weber downdrafts that you can try to start, so you can use the can of hope. 😉
When I first saw the DB4, my first thought was 'Not a hope of ever getting that running' , boy was I wrong...!!! Great to see the car running. I wish Paddy well in restoring the car and getting it road worthy again. Thank you Jonny and the TLBS team.
Bloody hell, Jonny..! That must be your best one yet. Paddy is a LEGEND, and WHAT a car! Brilliant, brilliant content- thank you! (and thanks also to Phil the cameraman!)
My god that car is unstoppable. It's like Wolverine on four wheels. It just refuses to die. Amazing recovery after 40 years idle. Paddy really knows what he's doing. It's always a pleasure to watch experts doing their thing.
An AMAZING find! When I was about 18 I used to LUST after a 1961 DB4 which lived very close by. When I heard it firing up I'd go to the front garden to see the lovely light metallic blue missile whizz past. (He used to drive quite quickly.) It ended up in a local garage, for sale at £1400. (This was 1973/4.) The garage owner was a bit of a "chancer", and had let the tank go down so low there wasn't enough petrol to be lifted by the pump. (Had it started & I'd driven it, I'd probably have bought it!) Next day, I was flagged down by a "car mad" neighbour. (He used to run Mk1, then Mk2 Lotus Cortinas, all sorts of fast cars. He asked if I'd "heard about that Aston for sale?" When I said yes, I was on my way to test drive it, he said "Don't bother. "$$$$$" had it out last night and put a rod and piston through the block" At the time, a rebuild (with no damage) was about £4,700. Had I bought it, it too would have "been my pension". Great to hear it run - and it didn't sound so bad, did it? Lastly, my late brother had a German Wire-Haired Pointer. She was a lovely, most definitely a one-man dog - and a great gun-dog. Thanks for a great video.
Paddy is an incredible fella. I would love to hear more of his own story, and a series documenting his restoration of this stunning Aston would be amazing!
Yet again I've got a new favourite episode, this one is a true legend of a car stashed away and Paddy himself is a legend, was great having a proper motorhead getting stuck right in and wanting to get her running as much as the rest of us. Cheers Jonny and Paddy, great viewing.
my oh my . . . . . .. yes. of course it's a DB so gorgeously aspiring to its next journey. but, oh to my eyes ---- the lathe! @29:00 Paddy makes reference to its necessary partnership. pity, the garage tour didn't gain the priority as i wished. there seems to me -- a very nice bond affixed to Jonny & Paddy in that wonderous space on top of a marvel soon awakened me thinx. many thanx to Paddy for curating a Petrolicious-like audience. the opportunity was mine most assuredly. (a note to Paddy's "GP" life in the pits & elsewhere - super cool life effort!)
Great job, Paddy, it was great to hear the engine come to life; it sounded very good to me. This DB4 would be a great restoration project for someone who has the available funds. It would be wonderful to see this car with the original color paint and in new condition driving down the road again.
The hollywood script writers are on strike so no films or TV, but to keep busy they must be writing car youtube videos. A barn find DB4, an early one, with a spy in its history, you couldnt write that . Fascinating and looking forward to the restoration. Is it better to fully restore it to showroom shiney or would it be better to restore but keep as much genuine as possible, keeping the patina, etc? I could watch this stuff all day, cheers for posting !!
Jonny, great episode! It's clear that your visits inspire things to happen with vehicles that have been dormant for a long time. Paddy and no doubt others are capable of, more than acceptable, camera work - you should encourage people to send you progress footage throughout the year and do an annual barnfind updates vid! I give these suggestions for great works whilst sat in my pants at 10:15am avoiding great works!
Third time of watching this video and still enoying it. 2 absolute car geeks and a car more than worthy of the attention. I would love to see a full, ground up restoration of this classic. Come on Jonny, make it happen for us..
I just have to say there are so many great things about TLBS, but how Jonny presents and his knowledge is fantastic. I have binged watched most of the barn finds as there is something just so calming and wholesome about each episode... i have now subscribed to the Smith and Sniff podcast. Bravo!
This is one of the most interesting videos you’ve made. And I have really enjoyed a lot of barn finds you’ve brought to RUclips. But this guy, is a book of motoring history. Wow, you should bring Paddy in for a interview on the sofa 👍
OMG! Thr DB4 fired up! Never thought that would happen.. And it has water still in the engine.. Absolutely Astonishing. What a car. .. Paddy is a very interesting man and popular in the comment section too Thanks to the LBS team for having a 2nd attempt /day at trying to get the DB4 fired up. Didn't sound half bad too. Bit concerned the DB may not be here in a few years with all that corrosion. Needs a resto soon as. Needs to be saved for history. Timestamp; 1830 reminds me of being at the dentist. ... Obviously this is one of the top 5, each episode should stand on its own merits. So it could the Audi QR turbo, both Lamborghinis (kendal & & Guy Fawkes), reno 5 turbo, M series bmws. The guy fawkes labmo has to be the best settings /backdrop to a BF. ... Or the kendal lambo with the shady owner... In this episode Paddy is as much a star as the car! .. Keep up the good work...
Ode to WD-40! I think that WD-40 as a sponsor is just SO appropriate. What an incredible bit of “automotive archeology.” Bravo Late Brake Show! Bravo Paddy!!
Love these type of episodes, defo keep doing these as part of the channel, its not just the cars themselves that are interesting but the stories around them too. Cant wait to see what you find next.
Absolutely love the Late Brake Show's barn find series! It's like a treasure hunt for car enthusiasts like me. The excitement of discovering these hidden gems is truly unmatched. Each episode is a captivating journey, and I can't help but be glued to the screen from start to finish. Kudos to the team for creating such engaging and entertaining content. Can't wait for the next barn find adventure. it's the only RUclips video that keeps me hooked without a pause! 🙌
Paddy is awesome. Never seen a barn find owner on your channel get so involved. A true engineer. He definitely needed you to come over as an impetus haha
Incredible story about this DB4, so interesting.... I appreciate the fact not every car is as rare as this one. But how many cars are still hidden in barns (or any other shelter), waiting to see daylight, and be back on the road to enjoy. Even the most common car had a proud first owner, made journey's, made story's, sometimes followed by other owners with additional story's to tell.... Hope for every make, brand, model a few (or better) more examples will survive. Nice chap too, Paddy... Hope you can sort this A. M. out and bring it back to life, preserving it's character.
Truly epic episode ! Lots of work needed to rebuild this car but all eminently doable. Please work with Paddy to chart the future of this car (and the Dino)
Casually says "Got on the lathe and machined one up" 😂 Love it , me thinks he could re-build that whole car in a weekend with a couple of spanners, what a guy!
The best one yet.Paddy is an absolute guru who knows what he is doing 🙌. Top marks in getting the car started. If anyone was going to do it,it was Paddy.
One of the best Barn find specials yet. Paddy a true engineer. Jonny and the crew, keep the great work up and really enjoy the format, makes it really interesting to watch. Glad you went back I had my fingers crossed you would get it running!
This has to be the best edition yet ! Paddy is a legend , if I had 5% of his talent in d be happy , this is your best work yet Johnny and your knowledge never ceases to amaze me . Bravo.
Interesting to read some of the comments regarding this vehicle being left in this condition for Twenty some odd years.I think the person who buys this for many 10’s of thousands of pounds would prefer it in this condition,Completely original.Hope it won’t be too long before we see it fully restored
To see any Aston Martin in that state makes me cry, especially a one so special as a DB4. But to hear it start up after so many years, made me smile, it proves how good Aston Martin Engineering is and how good Tadek Marek engines are.
Trust me - there is a follow-up video coming soon; I've done loads of work on the car and Jonny is due to visit again shortly - I'm sure he'll post something up about it before too long!
'the point is not that I want it, but that I want to build it' is exactly how I end up with some weird stuff and ideas and bloody no idea haha...what a guy :D
The Barn Finds just keep getting better. I agree with others that the longer time you allow for these episodes is really working. Paddy is a legend. Thanks so much for creating this amazing content. Always watch start to finish.
One of your best. I think Paddy and Rufus were the barn find here. What an interesting guy and so good of him to involve us and to put so many hours before the second day. I'm sure there a great many of us watching this thinking of the gold Corgi James Bond DB5 we had as kids. Was Goldfinger the inspiration for the respray? Hope Paddy gets round to restoring the DB4 himself as the outsourcing cost will be substantial. The classic pair also reminded me of the Persuaders with the red Dino and orange DBS also said to have been an inspiration for the DB5 and Ferrari 355 chase in Goldeneye!
Just hearing Paddy's career history at the start told me this was going to be an episode I'd need a big mug of tea (and biscuits) for. Well-done on yet another fascinating episode - and thanks WD-40 for sponsoring to help make it happen
Please, please, PLEASE convince Paddy to start his own channel! I’d love to hear his stories and to see him restore the cars. Maybe start with “the easy one”, the 458 Dino and then the Aston. 😊 I’d even support a Patreon or GoFundMe or something like that, to see his cars brought to life.
Paddy and his incredible workshop is what makes this video for me. The Aston Martin would take a body off restoration and a good few specialist craftspeople to be anything more than what it is.

If he ever builds the Dino with the 458 engine you should definitely make that a series
this needs more traction!
I agree, but if Paddy’s like most of us with projects like that, it will be 10 years in the making!
That's fine we've been watching Binky for around 9 years and that's not finished yet!
Yeah now that would be something!
Paddy's Dino is like my model railway - I've got all the bits I need but I need to get on and build the damn thing!
Excellent workshop to fix the car! Can picture all the tools bits & bob's paddy collected over the years!
Jonny, never stop doing these! Absolute gold every single time! Been watching you for years since the Fifth Gear days and so glad you started your own YT channel, I subscribed immediately when you first started! Mad respect and big love 👌
Agreed. Jonny has produced gold with each video.
I echo your sentiments. Well said.
The car, Paddy and that number plate. Pure gold!
So glad you liked this episode. Paddy is a dude.
@@TheLateBrakeShow I reckon Paddy is worthy of one of your brown chair chats. I bet he's got a good few stories to tell.
This has to be one of the best episodes ever. Paddy was such a knowledgable guy with a clear passion for cars and bikes. Thank you.
Bloody hell, Jonny..! That must be your best one yet. Paddy is a LEGEND, and WHAT a car! Brilliant, brilliant content- thank you! (and thanks also to Phil the cameraman!)
I used to supply the aerosol surfactant to WD40. One guy at WD40 did all the jobs there. Warehousing, chemicals mixing, procurement, everything.
(He used to drive quite quickly.)
It ended up in a local garage, for sale at £1400. (This was 1973/4.)
The garage owner was a bit of a "chancer", and had let the tank go down so low there wasn't enough petrol to be lifted by the pump.
(Had it started & I'd driven it, I'd probably have bought it!)
Next day, I was flagged down by a "car mad" neighbour. (He used to run Mk1, then Mk2 Lotus Cortinas, all sorts of fast cars.
He asked if I'd "heard about that Aston for sale?"
When I said yes, I was on my way to test drive it, he said "Don't bother. "$$$$$" had it out last night and put a rod and piston through the block"
At the time, a rebuild (with no damage) was about £4,700.
Bloody hell, Paddy is a bit of a boy!
The chap is a real lad!👏
Was thinking that
Amazing
I thank you, Kind Sir - I'm glad to hear you liked my workshop too!
Bravo!
This was a beautiful episode. Absolutely magic. Thanks to Paddy for letting you visit and film and thans to you for sharing it with all of us
What a talented & down to earth bloke Paddy is. And what a great car. I can see that being fully restored over the next 5-10 years.
The smile on my face when it started was a mile wide!!😊
This is one of the most interesting videos you’ve made. And I have really enjoyed a lot of barn finds you’ve brought to RUclips.
But this guy, is a book of motoring history. Wow, you should bring Paddy in for a interview on the sofa 👍
OMG!
Thr DB4 fired up!
Never thought that would happen..
And it has water still in the engine.. Absolutely Astonishing.
What a car.
..
Paddy is a very interesting man and popular in the comment section too
Thanks to the LBS team for having a 2nd attempt /day at trying to get the DB4 fired up.
This is truly amazing. It never ceases to amaze me what folk have tucked away in their sheds. Well done Jonny and Paddy.
Ode to WD-40! I think that WD-40 as a sponsor is just SO appropriate.
What an incredible bit of “automotive archeology.” Bravo Late Brake Show! Bravo Paddy!!
You can tell Paddy is an absolute mechanical genius!
Maximum cheesing of the WD-40 product placement detected! Well done, they’ll be very pleased!
You absolutely must visit Paddy again for that Dino build of his in future. If I could, I'd watch a whole series of him building that car.
Plus one for some more tales from Paddy
Everybody needs a mate like Paddy. Sent shivers down my spine when it fired up, and the I realised I had the biggest smile. Fantastic.
2:33 in what a life this man’s had
Im gonna enjoy this one ✌🏼
28:24 Big Fat YES we do
Casually says
"Got on the lathe and machined one up" 😂
Love it , me thinks he could re-build that whole car in a weekend with a couple of spanners, what a guy!
I would make it run, stop, and all lights working, clean the interior. Clean suspension, and then drive it as is EVERY WHERE!!
This has to be the best edition yet ! Paddy is a legend , if I had 5% of his talent in d be happy , this is your best work yet Johnny and your knowledge never ceases to amaze me . Bravo.
Thanks Jonny, my good lady just walked past RIGHT as you said "shall we commence the suckage?" and now she's wondering what the hell I'm watching.
9 year old was chuffed, brought him home a near identical DB5 Hotwheels car today, then by chance we stumbled on this video “that’s my car!”.
Interesting to read some of the comments regarding this vehicle being left in this condition for Twenty some odd years.I think the person who buys this for many 10’s of thousands of pounds would prefer it in this condition,Completely original.Hope it won’t be too long before we see it fully restored
It just doesn’t get any better than this… An absolute gem of an episode. I watched it twice!
Twice? Thank you. Thank you.
Great idea!
To see any Aston Martin in that state makes me cry, especially a one so special as a DB4. But to hear it start up after so many years, made me smile, it proves how good Aston Martin Engineering is and how good Tadek Marek engines are.
Lol get a grip 😂
As everyone before has said, what a great episode. How interesting is Paddy and his workshop. Love to see a follow up of this great find.
I havent finished watching yet but to see the Aston in all its Glory 11 minutes in was just lovely 👌
sensible thing to do
is use a compressor to blow away all the crud around the spark plugs, before wd40 and spark plug removal
Mr Engineer
The Barn Finds just keep getting better. I agree with others that the longer time you allow for these episodes is really working. Paddy is a legend. Thanks so much for creating this amazing content. Always watch start to finish.
how have i only found this channel!!!! brilliant videos right up my alley . we need follow up videos of how the barn finds have got on
Watch this space for an announcement from Jonny as to a follow-up on the Aston - I'm working on it every day to get it ready for a Part Two!
@@TeknoTramp cant wait binge watching the whole channel today
Wow! What a superb episode Jonny! What an interesting guy Paddy was too. Just so much history. Couldn’t take my eyes off it. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Did he mention working with Lucky Strike Suzuki and Kevin Schwantz, did he 🤔holy grail stuff
"Shall we commence the suckage?" is an expression I've never heard before .... good one!
If the average man had even 1% of Paddy's knowledge and experience, the world would be a beautiful place 😂😂
You need to have a sit down long chat with Paddy. He must have some amazing stories.
Paddy needs his own channel! Amazing content once again Johnny, thank you
He's in the process of creating exactly that!
Man this guy is a real engineer, watching the video I feel like being there and giving him a hand and learning a few things
Utterly brilliant Jonny, you never give up and so so close but the end result was well worth it. Well done, keep making great content like this!
Lubing is a word that’s so rarely used on RUclips, so it’s nice to hear it in polite company for a welcome change 😉 That aside, what a stunning find.
He IS starting his own channel!
Lol from the out side of that garage I didn't expect the in side to be that clean
Trust me, it isn't usually! We were shocked to see he'd had a major clean up!!
What an episode of barn finds! Fabulous. The owner Paddy, would be the ultimate barn find mate to join you. What a guy!
I love the sound of a 'straight six'.
Lemmos are one of Grecce’s most powerful shipowning families.
My dad had a garage in 60s and had one of these in and took me for a drive. Never forgotten. GREAT BRITAIN that was
Seriously one of the most interesting piece of motor sport related content I’ve ever seen congratulations Paddy and all the team 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Paddy and his incredible workshop is what makes this video for me. The Aston Martin would take a body off restoration and a good few specialist craftspeople to be anything more than what it is.
@Hello James how are you doing?
One of the only channels I hit the like button as soon as the video starts. Never disappoints, especially the barn find episodes!!
Stories, characters and awesome cars. I love this channel. Hello from Calgary, Canada.
