- Gov. Ron DeSantis signed three bills into law Monday morning to bring sweeping changes to the state's colleges and universities, asserting they will bolster Florida's position in education.
Critics, however, charge the new laws politicize higher education and reduce free speech by dictating what can and cannot be discussed in the classroom.

I wonder how these laws will affect college enrollment and staffing in the short term and long term. Will they even publish the honest numbers or manipulate them to shine a positive effect even if it’s not?
I'm sure this will do well by some degree, but the news will just disregard every positive and hyperfixiate on the negative, as always.
It will not do well and it will show even if they try to fake the numbers. The quality of public education is going way down causing people who actually care about education to leave. If you work in education like me, you see people leaving in droves. Yet people concerned about politics are letting it happen, just moving us backwards dumbing kids down and hiding the past so the U.S. can continue to have a large enough working class that allows the rich to stay rich. Pretty soon the only way to get a proper education will be those that can afford private or charter schools. Hes made it very clear this has nothing to do with caring about children or education. All of his most recent bills have been connected to a political agenda and hes been quite honest about it.

Defunding means that you’ll have to pay yourself for your work indoctrination, not the taxpayers. The second bill prevents you to demand others to subscribe to your work ideology.

PRIVATE colleges are essentially private businesses. PUBLIC colleges are not. Private colleges are not told what they can and cannot teach. Some teach theology and with religious values. Public colleges follow public policy. We don't see prayer in public schools anymore, do we? In this case, the paying customers (parents and students) have voted on a public policy. The paying customers who want debt forgiveness aren't really paying customers, are they? Seems more like freeloading customers. Right now, the uni-party conservatives AND democrats both are for business protections at the cost of reasonable employees and customers.
Many colleges are not private. I attend the university of Georgia and it is a public university.

While I don’t support the hate, DEI/social justice class in the college has been exhausting. I understand, for sociology class, it should be included. But does it really needed to be included in every class? Like nutrition, psychology, communication and list goes on. I’m a minor myself, but having same things repeated in different subjects gets me fatigue, as I’m not learning anything new.

If the government funds the universities, it can eliminate funding for certain courses. The Florida government wants the universities to produce academics that lead to high paying jobs. It serves nobody's interest when the taxpayer is on the hook for courses on subversive ideologies.
