      He is bringing back the Florida state guard, but on steroids-please look up what he is doing with it-he is putting some serious planning, preparation, and money into what is basically his personal army. I think he is convinced Trump is going to win, and even if he doesn’t win, they have already promised a ‘bloodbath’ in November…I’m not paranoid, but things are definitely getting wonky in the US!

    If slavery was so beneficial for Black folks, & that they were taught new skills, then how come they were NOT allowed to learn to read or write? Wouldn't that have been the most beneficial skill for them before all the others?!

    • @dahat1992
      @dahat1992 Год назад +37

      That's a phenomenal point. It directly and irrefutably contradicts the idea that slaves eventually had a better life in the US than they would have had in Africa.
      Their quality of life wasn't an issue anyone in charge cared about back then. In fact, it was illegal to give them the most important skills of all.

    • @dontbanmebrodontbanme5403
      @dontbanmebrodontbanme5403 Год назад +40

      Honestly, at the end of the day, it doesn't matter. If I kidnap someone's kid, my argument can't be that I've got more resources and they kid turned out better. I still kidnapped the kid. So the argument that the slaves learned skills is so disgusting, the only conclusion that one can draw is that the person making the argument KNOWS that they're being evil and they're enjoying it.

    • @oliver_twistor
      @oliver_twistor Год назад

      @@dontbanmebrodontbanme5403 Yep. I would like to ask DeSantis and other slavery apologists if they would accept my proposal: they lose all rights they currently enjoy, right to bodily autonomy, right to freedom of movement, freedom of speech etc. In return I prove to them I could provide them with everything their every need. Universal healthcare, check! Exquisite dinners every day cooked by the world's finest chefs, check! The world's most comfortable beds, check! I don't think they would accept my proposal, even if I can prove to them that they will have an objectively better life, at least materially.
      Freedom is in and of itself very valuable, and it is what makes us human, in my opinion. It's peculiar that American Republicans can't see that, given how much they value their freedoms in other areas.

He was a black smith and was able to market that skill when emancipated by his enslaver and migrated to PA. He set up his own business. He was able to buy his daughter and wife freedom. Slavery is a sin in the eyes of God, but my family’s history has a right to be told in schools as well. as well. And not to burst anyone’s bubble but just like any other racial group black violence justified or not justified is history.

      It shouldn't be. It's a sad testament of how far and the low the Republican party has fallen. They have been given license to let their fear, bigotry, and hatred out. This is what happens when a political party stops running on policies and just runs on "culture war". All good honest conservatives, liberals, moderates, progressives, etc. need to make it clear we will not stand for this.
      Hopefully after a significant enough defeat at the ballot box most will return to their senses. They are after all our fellow citizens. But until they can respect basic reality, not to mention the rights of others, they must be opposed.

He was referring to all the dark and corrupt forces that culminated in Trump being elected. His quote was actually the title of the article as it wasn't just about his career, but also our being in the world. So whether "absolute morons" or psychopaths we're in a bit of trouble. When I was stationed in Japan years ago it baffled me how so many people knew NOTHING about their history with regards to war. Nothing about what they did to the Koreans, the Chinese, the Filipinos, and so on, nothing about the unspeakable horrors they perpetrated on millions of defenseless people. The Hiroshima memorial museum mentions the attack on Pearl Harbor once in a tiny near unnoticeable sign that said, Japan was THRUST into the war in the Pacific after the attack on Pearl Harbor....Didn't even mention they're the ones that did it or that they did the "thrusting"! It was explained to me that they are embarrassed, and out of some perception honor they don't talk about it. Conservatives are trying to achieve the same goal here in America in a somehow more pernicious and nakedly racist way, rather than confront our history and try to move past it what they are saying is, "we are ok with what happened, so who cares? It doesn't suit the narrative I have been lying to my kids about". They want to feel better about the past because they wish things were that way now.

    Instead of just listening to politicians talk about slave life we need to offer these people the opportunity to truly experience it. This would be an educational experience. After this experience they will be able to speak with authority about the "benefits" of slavery because they will really have first-hand knowledge/experience. The following is a description of this camp experience: Go to the two-week historically accurate "Slave Camp". There you will eat what the slaves ate, live in slave quarters, wear what they wore, perform the work they performed, and blindly follow the orders of your "Master" - again historically accurate orders.

My maternal family was deeply engrossed in this history. To this very day, it still poisons the intellectual well of thinking and believing.
    Florida was among the most brutal of the slave states. My great grandfather's gravestone:
    "A lover of Christ and a friend to his fellow man: KKK" speaks to the Florida era. This man considered himself a good Christian, building 3 Baptist churches in and around the Palatka area. He proudly said, "I give my Darkies a day of rest, just like my other animals."

      RDS altered what was voted into law by the Floridians to say these people had to pay for their crimes (is that not one of the reasons for the prison sentence?). He also had many of these same people arrested when they exercised their newly restored voting rights, saying they were doing something illegal. A lot of these cases were conveniently dropped after the last election cycle.

    This is why it is so important to listen to our elders. My grandfather was born in 1894 and he had a lot of history to tell his grandchildren as he was from the state of Mississippi, and lived in Tennessee during Jim Crow law. And we, his grand children have passed that down to our children and our children, hopefully will continue telling the stories. They can try to take it out of the books, but they can’t take it out of our minds.

While not even trying, @jaseboon6282 has weaponized, and propagandized History without even thinking about it, to express opinion. And what makes this absurd is you could have googled to find out the truth before you made a comment.
