  • The mystery of missing horsepower and torque on the #audis4 25quattro is solved through a series of dyno tests and the use of #dragy to measure 0-60 mph time. In the process, I learn more about how different types of dynamometers calculate power and how running a pull in 3rd vs. 4th gear affects power output seen in the dyno graphs.

    The first dyno numbers are what id expect to see on a A4 2.0t with a stage 1 the second dyno seems like a much closer representation of what you're actually making from comparison to stock numbers at the crank + mods/tune to the wheels. However it was still great ro see the difference in types of dynos and how they achieve their final numbers

    That first shop sent you on a wild goose chase. The fact the torque was so much higher than hp on an n/a car was a huge red flag. They should have refunded you at east one of those sessions.
    As bad as it was searching for something that didn’t exist it was a great learning experience for the future. It also confirmed the condition of a lot of things you wouldn’t been guessing on otherwise. Now you know for sure when troubleshooting.
    As someone who has daily’d a B6 S4 for 6 years and now a B7 for going on 7 years don’t stress about the timing guides so much. So many other things can make noises when driving, don’t go to the worst one first. It kills the enjoyment of the car and just leads to too much unnecessary stress. Yes, it is an issue with these cars, but your car seems healthy. As long as it’s been well maintained it’s whole life, not been abused and, at worst, has ‘normal’ chain rattle on cold start up after sitting for a while things should be fine for a while longer and it’s not going to explode. People abuse their cars and then complain all over the internet when they break. I post my cars are running well and just get ignored by the people bashing them with the complainers.

    That Dragy run wasn't too bad in my eyes. I think lots of car people tend to quote their 0-60 times from journalist tests where the cars get fully abused at launch. Not exactly a real world scenario for anyone that actually likes their car and wants it to last. ;-) With that said, your run is quicker than I had expected. And oh baby does that 4.2 sound nice!

    Man Steve, I’ve been watching for over a year now, ever since I got my b6 s4 two summers ago, and the quality of your content, your thoroughness in your installs, and many other things is just phenomenal! I love following your s4 series and I hope to see a lot more content to come! I’m happy to discover such a small channel before it rockets in subs ;))

    You actually make these 4.2 Audi engines interesting! And BTW, if you have a Dynojet around, I think it would make good content to go and see what result you get on that (if you can disconnect the drive from one end of the car??). For WOT dyno runs, inertia dynos are so nice and simple.

    Im so glad there are Audi nerds like us keeping the old v8s alive. I have an S5 b8 v8 with a manual. as far as i can tell there is not a single one left in my country with a manual, the other 10 are auto. But i have learnt a lot from your videos my guy. The x pipe is the only thing i want to change on my car, but finding a good one locally is non existant. Saving up for the import from Canada though and hope it (a) fits (b) works out the box. Thank you for the great content.

    Thanks for making this video, i have a b6 s4 with a jackal stage 1 in the edmonton area too. It seemed a bit silly what sss's dyno was putting out just based off of the curve shape. Considering these 4.2 make peak power at 7k rpm it just didnt seem right.

    For your oil after a flush to look clean you would need a special fitting and have the engine running with the cleaner flowing through your engine. There is always old oil and deposits clinging to the engine internals .

    Thanks for the insight into the dyno world of random! Your presentation is excellent. I especially like your comments on the dreaded rattle noise... I am obsessed with listening to the sound of my v8 s5 and rs5, which by chance both originated in Edmonton like myself! Keep up the good work;). Ever looked at the cats in the S4? I feel like my S5 does not breath properly and after the carbon cleaning its the only thing I can think of that would make it sluggish.

  • @lisandro12349

    Amazing work Steve! I agreed on those number from the latest dyno. More realistic in my opinion based on draggy number and how you feel the car. Also, when did you hear the rattle? Start up? I don’t know about the mileage on your S4.

    • @FigureItAudi
      @FigureItAudi  4 месяца назад

      The rattle turned out to be the exhaust pipes settling a bit and making contact with the small chassis brace that gaps the driveshaft tunnel under the car. I got a modified brace made to create some more room now it's all good. The groaning in the steering is the only remaining concern but I'll take care of that in the summer, maybe.

    What's your take on doing an oil change via a vacuum extractor? I've got one for my 3.0 TFSI but have only used it once as I don't trust it 😅 never thought to do a flush but might do it next time having seen how dark the post-flush oil was!

    • @FigureItAudi
      @FigureItAudi  5 месяцев назад +1

      Po-tay-to po-tah-to on extraction vs. draining. The tube literally goes to the bottom of the pan anyways so it's removing oil from the identical place, and both are subject to just allowing the oil to gravity drain from the rest of the block. It's more like a convenience advantage if you can't get under the car. I never do it.

    • @rossimac
      @rossimac 5 месяцев назад

      @@FigureItAudi yeah that's it. I have an uncle mechanic, 30min drive away but I hate to bother him and I'm handy enough around the car (to a point, spark plugs is my limit) so I got a 9ltr extractor. I found the tube kinked slightly at the bottom, so unsure if it really got to the bottom, but that's user error I guess. Will give it another go soon.

    Since you know these cars/engines pretty well, what would cause(s) the low oil pressure light to come on at hot idle?

    • @FigureItAudi
      @FigureItAudi  5 месяцев назад +1

      Realistically it could be a lot of things but with no other info, I'd either replace the sensor because it's just on the back of the oil filter housing up top in the engine bay and that may eliminate a simple sensor failure, or I would be suspicious of the oil check valve in the valley pan failing to hold pressure in the heads. Everything else is much less fun.

    Your 1/8mi trap speed was a little low, but that's likely the result of a mediocre launch and slow shifts. If you can get the 1/8mi trap speed up to 78-80, that's what a normal stock car should achieve. 78mph = ~98-100 1/4 trap speed. If you can get it above 80, you'll be more so in the expected range for your mods.
