Read Sinclair Louis book “The Jungle”. It exposed the hardships and poor conditions of the people who worked the old meat packing/slaughter houses of Chicago during the same time as that bottle was made. They were so horrific, it was said that Teddy Rosevelt was reading the book while eating breakfast, jumped up from the table, carried his plate of sausages and threw them from the Whitehouse balcony. Love your mudlarking!
You could collect the interesting bricks and someday make a really cool walkway. Different colors mixed with different manufacturers and places. Truly unique! I would grab a couple ever trip. Might take a couple years. But would be amazing when finished!
I've been making this same comment for a couple of YEARS now!!! It's so frustrating when they leave something beautiful behind, like that fragment of craftsman 1920's era tile (25:00 in the video). Arghh! I wish I could reach through the screen and grab it myself. They need a new floor in their little foyer behind their front door--on their other channel a few vids ago they were working on removing rotten wood from the damp seeping up their inner walls there. They could save a lot of money by tiling the floor, maybe even the wall with found tiles (had they been saving them up all these years). But we all have different tastes and apparently random patterning and colors in a patchwork aren't their cup of tea.
Have you watched the "Let's Go with the Johnson's" channel? Phil collects bricks and he has an awesome collection! But they are quite heavy, too. Especially if you have to carry them through a distance through the woods/paths/fields back to your car.
Gail, having followed you and Alex since 2020, we feel the best find you have is that beautiful old house and land. Love watching your videos on your other channel as you work on the house and develop your garden. Thank you both for such enjoyable videos.
Yes, fill up with largest strainer, sift while DRY. Remove largest pieces, dump into the next size DOWN sifter, shake again while dry. The wet shaking is for panning for gold.
Love all of the finds today!!! Even though the classifier didn't work out this time, you keep it handy like a -MUDLARKING KIT- Trowels, hand rakes, squirt bottles of water, a classifier (or sieve), torch (flashlight), and all else that come in handy for mudlarking. You 2 channels and when you make things are my absolute favorite to watch!!!❤❤
What a strange and wondrous assortment from your mudlarking - that smooth orange stone is amazing I called out loud when you set it back down Ha! and the brass hook wow!
I’ve been watching you gals for about 4 years now. Your channel was the first mudlark channel for me and still my most favorite. Keep up the great work finding all the fun and interesting keepsakes.
You two are such lovely women. I adore your videos. Especially the anticipation of the birds and animals on your property. Your content is always exciting and interesting. Where you live is like a little bit of heaven. Your gardens are incredible. Great job. ❤
@@concerned430 Are you English?? I only ask as a Kiwi i believe in FREE SPEECH, but i see the poms aren't allowed that luxury anymore lol Twas a joke, but ill continue to say what i like, thanks;
The Armour Bottle - amazing find, brought back my childhood memory of the jingle: (you'll have to google it for the tune it is sung to :) "Hot Dogs … Armour Hot Dogs; What kind of kids eat Armour Hot Dogs? Fat kids, skinny kids, kids who climb on rocks; Tough kids, sissy kids; even kids with chicken pox; Love hot dogs, Armour Hot Dogs; the dog kids love to bite." Beautiful shutter hook, and the tile with the leaves & berries was beautiful!
We used to pan for gold and garnets with my dad. You might think about bringing a 3 - 5 gallon bucket with you to process dirt faster. Fill the bucket take it with you down to the water and refill your pan 5-8 times instead of going back and forth for every pan full. 😊
I'm so happy for that poor old padlock!! It just wanted a chance to prove how pretty it could be! Of course, you did miracles to it, but it's so nice now 😍 !!
I have been to creeks to hunt for old items like buttons, buckles, Civil War bullets, old coins, bottles, and marbles. We usually scrape up dirt and gravel from some of the gravel bars along the creek. Objects washed out from rains tend to collect there. When we were all little, we could exchange the CW bullets (We didn't even know what they were.) for a bag of candy. We would also find a lot of gemstones. Western North Carolina has a variety of gemstones that can be found. And I have always been tempted by pretty and unusual rocks. Have coated some of the non-gem stones I found in streams/creeks/rivers/lakes in resin to keep that "wet" look. I keep them in a shallow stoneware bowl. The crystal rock you found might be able to be cleaned by a handheld steam cleaner that has the attachments for cleaning things like grout and tile. Put the stones to be cleaned on an old towel, hold them with long tongs and preferable outside as it does make a bit of mess...but it works good to clean them. Have also used a cheap water pick that has a variety of pressure choices to clean some items. It is always fun to watch your treasure hunting adventures.
VERY INTERESTING VIDEO OF YOU CLASSIFYING. I ALWAYS THOUGHT IT WAS PANNING FOR GOLD, OR MAYBE IT'S DIFFERENT WHERE YOU ARE. ANYWAYS WHAT YOU FOUND IS AMAZING AND LUCKY. I LIKE THE LITTLE BOTTLE AND THE LATCH FOR YOUR SHUTTTERS. THANKS FOR ANOUTHER INTERESTING VIDEO AND PLEASE STAY SAFE AND HEALTHY THANKS ❤❤🙏🙏
I love watching you too ladies. I don’t think y’all had Indians in Scotland, but we had plenty of them here in the United States and hunting for arrowheads and artifacts was one of my favorite pastimes and arrowheads. Make beautiful jewelry I like, watching you pick up things that you see I’m not declassify to eat you song, thanks for a good video. God bless.🌼🌸🌺♥️😊
I love that latch. The shape/style looks feminine with the long tip bending upwards at the tip❤I am so pleased that I subscribed to this channel and your other 2 channels.
The padlock is called a Mickey Mouse ear by we detectorists here in the states. The latch hook find was the best find of the day. I truly love it!! That little beautiful heavily embossed amber bottle from Chicago 😍 When I saw the name Brampton brought up memories of RAF Brampton from my USAF days in the UK.
33:55 Love the Scottish music and your sweet sweater, Alex. I love all of the iron artifacts and wish you two would take up blacksmithing so we can watch you do it.😅Such a light-hearted video. That hunk of crystal is gorgeous. Thanks for sharing your escapades with us! ❤
I really loved the latch,Chicago bottle, the lock was amazing cleaned up👍.Im glad you brought back the Martel bottle too❤Thank you ladies for an interesting mix of information& treasures!
I love this one. Treasures you didn't expect, useful bits for the home and another picture hook. My late father-in-law used to work for Armor Swift company.
What an interesting, beautiful bottle you found! I never knew that Armour made pharmaceuticals and that it has such an interesting story. You always find something wonderful for us to watch no matter how little you think you have recovered. Much gratitude to you!
Sometimes I am so jealous of your finds! LOL. That bottle from Chicago (I'm from The States) was one of the most beautiful bottles I've ever seen you find! And that latch!!! I'm so glad you'll be using it in your home! I do live in an "historic" area, but not in the same way you do. I live in NJ, right next to NYC. There were tons of factories here and all kinds of dumping in the Hudson River. But there's no way I'd swim in the Hudson River. And any place there were factories, it's now private property. This area is so densely populated, there are no open dumps to go to. I have seen people mudlark along the Hudson, but I'm not familiar with where. I HAVE found some nice "beach glass" along the Hudson, because people have been dumping in that river for decades. Actually, my own parents house and their neighbor's house has an interesting history. And after watching your videos (and others), I am dying to know what lies beneath the soil in our yards. From what I understand, my parent's house once belonged to an Italian family. The woman of the house would make these HUGE Italian dinners. Word spread, and people from Broadway in NYC would come to eat there and "sing for their supper", literally. We have it on good authority that Mae West ate in our backyard. And the neighbor's house was an inn/bar. So, I'd be willing to bet there are all kinds of bottles under that yard. I wish there was a way to know if there was anything worth digging up in our yards! Do you ever find skeleton keys? I love skeleton keys.
you can down or grind down bottle necks for beads or napkin holders, or bottle bottoms as spoon rests. Wonderful finds! So relaxing to watch your adventures!
I would love to see you both go to dead horse bay..in NY...with your Eagle eyes,I'm sure you'll find some great treasures... I often find more beach combing than detecting especially after a storm

Disappointing about the sive thing but lovely finds with your own eyes. Love the padlock and it shoud go in the window of wonders and the little amber bottle was really interesting thnak you ladies for another good lark.

Hello Gail and Alex! The classifier wasn't a lot of help here but y'all found some really cool stuff. I really love that brass latch, it's going to be so awesome to use it on the shutter or just in the house...amazing find! Have a wonderful week...Big hugs from Texas!!😍🤗🤩
Had to reopen the video as the auto play wasn't allowing me to comment. Those long gloves look amazing for river work including larking in the river where I work :) Love that tiny bottle, and I definitely would have taken that large smooth quartz rock. The latch is really sweet. I would have taken that title section too with the green and yellow pattern
This was fun ! Love the latch 👌 do you ever visit the field of dreams ? I imagine that it’s been so wet , and would be claggy . I always thought that you had amazing finds there ! Thank you for taking us along 🙏🏻
The Chicago bottle is a reminder for me back in the early seventies. My father worked in Philadelphia, PA here in America. He was a meat packer, and worked in the freezer’s. He used to get all of the frozen meat out for the next day to cut it, & wrap it for grocery stores. You both have such a good eye for tiny antiques! If you are going to search River banks, and sift, you might want to look for arrowheads!ancient man would have made them, lived near water sources and lost many! And they are much older!
It seems that perhaps sifting would be of value when you find small pockets of treasures. Agree, love the Lost Towers Diary❤
Having done much fold panning, I would recommend sifting the contents dry. and perhaps several degrees of classifer..
Every time they filled up.wanted them to start shaking so bad .lol

"Man-schwoo" lol 🤣 I liked that tile with the green leaves and yellow berries. Please rescue that too!

I’m sad you left the pretty tile behind.
Yeah the green was beautiful
Me too.😟
pretty certain there's a tile that's just as beautiful sitting waiting on a river bank for you to find it
Yes, it wasn't expected to see Alex toss the pretty tile. Using a tile cutter, the tile could be made even or the leaves made into pendants or a pin.😂
those gloves look like the ones the vets use to give cows a prostate exam haha

Alex that piece of tile made me think it would go well in your room with the greens! 💚
You should paint the classifier with some rust free paint. And put something in each of the holes, so you want paint them close.
Always a great video.
The brass hook and eye ... is lovely😊

Yes, you two are sifting! Using water through the sifter will help reveal the treasures. 💎
The lovely ladies strike again with cool finds!
Very nice finds!
My favorite is definitely the cabin hook. Also the padlock.
Hello ladies, fun trip. Thanks for sharing it with us. BTW Ive sent you an email to the address listed in your content. Thanks again.
It was fun to see the process of using the sifter, even if you didn't find much with it. Looks like that was an unlucky spot to dig in
