Scotty Kilmer I have a 2007 mazda 3 with a stickshift. It’s my first car and it’s easily the most fun car I’ve ever driven. It currently has about 110k miles on it and it’s still going strong. It’s the complete base model, so it’s very simple with about as little technology in it as you can get (excluding the radio). I have no doubt a toyota or a honda would last longer, but so far my experience with mazda has been trouble free.
Scotty Kilmer scotty ive had a 2013 auto transmission mazda 3 it has 234,000 miles skyactiv engine....only thing wrong is i need struts ...shifts fine drives fine
PAtty ice Sky active technology was implemented in Mazda's that came after 2008. Your Mazda is the old technology which is much more reliable than the new one.
I am a tech at a mazda dealership and there are a few things that you might have mixed up Scotty. If the mazda had GDI and a TC then I'm sure your not talking about a current skyactiv mazda considering skyactiv + turbo didn't happen untill around 2016 in the cx-9 model which is a 40,000$ SUV. I believe your referring to a cx-7 which was a power train of a ford 2.3 mrz engine. And during that time mazda had been having a fair amount of reliability issues. Untill 2013 when mazda came up with skyactiv technology and re-established their Japanese roots. I work on them everyday. And I am a honda person myself. But I have to be honest these skyactiv Mazda's are racking up 150-250k and I see a lot of them! So I would have to disagree with you on your opinion here Scotty.
Hey man I'm another Mazda tech from Montreal. Agree with you 💯 skyactiv has proven to be pretty bulletproof. Even the older fomoco engines were strong especially the 2.5
@Josh. You are correct. The main problem they had was putting the Mazdaspeed3 turbo engine in a grocery getter (CX7). Those lackadaisical owners changed their oil at 8K intervals (or worse) and almost never used synthetic oil. Engine sludge and sooty oil conditions stretched timing chains and destroyed Ford made VVT rotors. Meanwhile in the Speed3 (where the engine was intended) owners were also "enthusiasts" who ONLY used synthetic and did oil changes at 3K . MUCH less problems. VW had the same problem with their little 1.8T turbo engine (sludge). VW told customers to use SYNTHETIC ONLY to help combat the problem.
@@southpaw5041 mazdaspeed3 has turbo issues. Other than that great car. Most speed3 owners will go ahead and upgrade to an aftermarket turbo..if u can wait awhile mazda just broght over the new 2019 mazda3 awd. Right now only available in automatic.
Mazda transmissions are made by Aisin which is the same company that makes Toyota’s transmissions! If you bash Mazda’s automatics then you’re also saying that Toyota’s autos are rubbish too!
Aisin transmissions have been used in a variety of makes and models over the years. I had a 2006 Mazda 6 with the 6-speed automatic and had no issues with it at all. The car held up well for 230,000 miles until engine trouble (Ford Duratec 30) reareed its ugly head. Maybe the Ford era was a good thing for Mazda; not really familiar with their new stuff. Do they still use Aisin transmissions?
Exactly. Consumer reports says these cars are super reliable. There are TONS of CX-5's out there with way over 200k miles. Changing the trans fluid is EZ PZ so do it every 30k or so.
LMFAO have you read all the people in mazda forums with Head cracking and head gasket issues? thwre are thousands... Mazda has MANY TSBs for the 2.5 and 2.2 and now Mazda is about to release a recall.
@@groovymoonConsumer reports are the least credible source. The 2.5 and 2.2 are ALL under TSBs for Head gaskets and Head cracking issues. There is thousands of them in Mazda forums.. Its a big issue affecting all 2015 to 2019 cars even the 2020 2021 some times... Mazda is supposedly to release a Recall so yeah... Not even close to be good engines.
Mazda is better now as the transmissions you are talking about are from the Ford era. The transmissions Mazda uses are made by the same manufacturer as Toyota’s transmissions.
Scotty is stuck in the 90s when Mazda had some transmission issues on some vehicles like CX7 when they were still with Ford. The Skyactive was introduced around 2010 (post Ford) and there have been NO reports of mass transmission failures, to the contrary they are super reliable. Scotty , Camrys had a sticky gas pedal issue some years back and recently Lexus recalled many cars due to an issue in fuel lines so Toyotas are bad, right? Please have your facts straight before making generalizations.
the four cylinders don't have transmission problems. the drivetrain problems are with the 6 cylinder mazdas, like cx7, cx9--those are garbage. stick with the FWD I-4 Mazda 3,5, CX5 2.3L and 2.5L; they've been good to me over 200k miles.
@@n9909e my 2013 Mazda6 is still running strong. Have not had a single repair yet other than routine maintenance like oil changes , brake pads and tires. I am at 90k miles and on the original brake rotors. The way it is running getting 250K out of it looks very much possible.
He was not wrong at all with the motor. Head cracking and head gasket is the biggest 2.5 and 2.2 issue its happening a LOT. Mazda released many TSBs and now is about to release a Recall. The 2018-2019 are the worst but the 2015 to 2019 are all affected.
WE JUST BOUGHT A 2019 CX5 BACK IN JUNE WITH 38,000 MILES ON IT. THE CAR IS LIKE BRAND NEW INSIDE AND OUT AND STILL SMELLS NEW. I'M KEEPING THE OIL CHANGED EVERY 5,000 MILES WITH TOP QUALITY SYNTHETIC OIL, CHANGED THE TRANS FLUID (JUST WHATS IN THE PAN, ABOUT 4.5 QUARTS) AND FILTER AT 40,000 AND WILL CONTINUE TO EVERY 40,000 MILES. MANY TRIPS TO TENNESSEE ALREADY. PLAN ON KEEPING THIS GIRL FOR A VERY LONG TIME.
I have a 2011 Mazda 3 with 270000 miles and the only thing I had to replace is fuel pump and wide band O2 sensor, it still runs perfect and has original clutch, I love Mazda cars.
Was hoping Scotty was wrong, cause I got a new CX-5 in 2019. Reading some of the comments made me feel better. It was the best selling car that year I believe and highly rated.
considering the mazda cx-5 is a top 3 car in reliability for 4 years in a row and a top 3 cheapest car to maintain on a per year cost basis for 4 years in a row means scottie was indeed wrong. However scottie said this 4 years ago before all this data was available and he was taking his judgements from mazdas past ( which i wouldent do up until 2015 mazdas was partnered with GM and used GM parts such as GM transmission parts ever since 2016 and up they use mazda parts and toyota parts as they are partnered with toyota now not GM) Cx-5 is a fine car to own and will last you plenty of miles without issue and when the issue occurs its cost to repair is cheaper on average than a honda toyota ford etc. Also the transmissions in mazdas 2017 and up have had no issues with reliability and going past 150-200k without any major issues. Maintenance is key and i dont mean just getting oil changes new tires and brakes i mean dealer maintence fuel filter changes the little things along the way that alot of folks ignore because they dont have warning lights for them but are recomended to change every 10-20k miles etc. Keep up with basic maintence at the dealer and your car will last
@@tonymante8759 Yeah it seems important to note that the Scotty would say the exact opposite to what he did in this video, if recorded today. He echos what you are saying about the mazda cx-5 of the current generation.
Scotty made another video where he said he really like the Skyactiv engines, so this video makes no sense. Also, the four cylinder models don't have transmission problems. the drivetrain problems are with the 6 cylinder mazdas, like cx7, cx9--those are garbage. stick with the FWD I-4 Mazda 3,5, CX5 2.3L and 2.5L; they've been good to me over 200k miles. I've just learned that models with 2.5L starting around 2012 have an oil pump strainer that gets clogged though; that needs cleaned or replaced periodically.
New mazda engines and transmission are all made in Japan, gone are the days of Ford parts and questionable reliability. I wouldn't be concerned at all of the reliability of a new Mazda even with an automatic transmission.
stop asking me to change my name! Rx8 reliability is in the person... not the car. It needs to be looked at properly and it'll last a very long time. Mine is an 05 with 140k miles
I have a mazdaspeed3. It uses the same motor as the CX7 with the turbo! these engines are actually super reliable if you clean the valves every 40-50k miles, do a VVT replacement every 100k and change the oil on time (extra important in any turbo'd car). VVT is an expensive job, but realistically you'll only have to do it once through the life of the motor. Mazda has a long history of reliable turbo motors, just take care of it.
I bought a 2016 CX-5 in the year 2015. I had no complains and still don't. But the transmission on ours went completely out in less than 3k miles. According to the mechanic at the dealership the new transmission had corrections from Mazda. I hope it doesn't happen again. Thankfully warranty covered the job. Ours has now 45k miles, change the oil every 7k miles. Haven't had a problem since.
@@maryreed2280 In Australia, you can only get the Manual Transmission in FWD in the 2L Petrol Engine. The AWD with 2.5L Petrol, 2.2L TT Diesel or 2.5L T Petrol can only be Automatic Transmission.
Although Mazda's 6AT feels agile and nimble over little accelerator motion, it has a weak 4th gear which forces to down shift when you need torque at 40 - 45 mph.
Sorry Scotty you are wrong on this one. Mazda has never made a turbocharged CX-5. I think the car you worked on was a older CX-7 from 2008-2012 that was back when Mazda was with Ford and was using the 2.3 turbocharged motor. Yes that motor was completely different and NOT the new skyactiv design. The turbocharged 2.3 had some issues with VVT and stretched timing chains. Ford still uses the 2.3 turbo on the mustang and others. But the 2.5 Skyactiv motor is completely different and came out in 2013. The first turbocharged skyactiv 2.5 was in 2016 in the CX-9. Please do some research. Still love your channel.
I have a 2018 CX-5 that I had since 18k, it now has 112k and not a single issue mechanically. I changed out the transmission fluid at about 90k and it wasn’t that bad. Now I’m in the process of doing brakes, belts, and other fluids for the next leg to 200k. Im very happy with this car. The struts are still pretty good as well, no squeaks either
@@LeonRiviaHe was not wrong with the engine. This engine is under a TSB for the thousands of people who experienced HEAD CRACKING and Head Gasket issues. Mazda is about to release a Recall on them.
funny cuz everyone i talk to LOVES there mazda...ive never in my life or anyone i know of say "MY MAZDA is broken down!" it never happens...mazdas are great cars...very reliable....maybe even more so than toyotas to be honest...
I have mazda 3 2015 which is almost 4.5 years old(bought it in 2014). Not a single problem ever with it. The transmission works great and then we bought a mazda cx5 2017. Oh boy, the best decision we ever made
Because Toyota wants to own Mazda soon and make more money than Mazda. It's called business, so now when you buy Mazda cars, Toyota gets some profits same as when you buy Toyota cars. When you buy a BMW Z4 Toyota get's a small profit same with the Supra, then BMW get's a small profit. At the end of the day, it's business.
@@1119-w3u Nope, Mazda are making now Skyactive X, the very new, like diesel economy gasoline engine, thats why they sell the old ones. And they make the new one with hybrid tech from Toyota, so Mazda are going to win this very easily, the fuel economy will be 20-30% more than Toyota cars. Look the new Mazda 3.
Tubo skyactive came out last year in the 2017 CX9 model, who has put that many miles on that car? Skyactive technology was so good Toyota bought a 5% stake in Mazda. Mazda is rated one of the most reliable cars.
@@suburbia8831 Honda is a piece of junk they're not reliable like they used to be back in the day they break down even more because of that CVT transmission junk they have in them now they are not reliable!
I'd have to disagree. we had a 2012 and gave us issues day in and day out after 30000km. Having said that, we are getting the 2018 cx5 as they have gone back to building their new transmissions in Japan, where they take pride in work LOL
ive had several and none have every left me stranded all good on gas and go through emission without problems isn't that crazy to not have to spend 1000's a year on maintenance just oil, brakes, and battery I work at a parts store I see what cars come in with the same problems with the same parts broken and they mostly drive a Toyota there to get the part for the (brand name here) stuck in their driveway or on the side of the road. KIA/Hyundai have huge sensor reliability problems which means if you live an an area with smog/emission testing you will have a hard time but other than that they don't hold up in accidents from the ones ive seen. they seem to run smooth and for a long time though just constant sensor problems
Toyotas are the best without a doubt. I have a corolla that I bought used in 2008, it is a corolla made in 2001. So I bought it from this guy who use to beat the car up because of his wife problems, he neglected maintenance. So then my family got it and they also neglected maintenace by me finding out that they never changed the engine oil for 20k miles. When thr mechanic drained it, he was shocked on how dark it is. So yes the car did live 10 years on black unchanged oil, idk how but it did. So now I have it and I changed the oil and it runs amazing with no problems, it does not even burn a drop of oil, I am still suprised. The only thing we had to replace in the car for the past 10 years is a door handle. Reliability is the definition of Toyota.
For those who see cars as appliances basic point a to b sure Toyota are fine. But for those who are car enthusiast and enjoy driving toyotas are basic af
@@MN_Angler39 When people realize that their preferred manufacturer can't build a car that is as long lasting as a Toyota, they simply revert to calling Toyotas "boring". If reliability and durability are boring, I'll take boring every time.
this is bull. Mazda didn't have any skyactiv turbos that would have that many miles. He just looks to slam every other brand but Toyota. If everyone was like him there would be NO automotive industry. Not everyone wants to keep a car for 20 years.
The car he described with the vvt issue is a mazdaspeed model. That's the 2.3L MZR engine from ford. They stopped production in 2013. It is known to have HPFP issues and VVT issues. Basically every other Mazda is not like that. I have owned four mazdaspeeds and can tell you if you replace the vvt every 100k miles and get an aftermarket hpfp, that car will never give you another problem and last forever. (That is if you dont mod it like every owner, including myself has done.) Also, if you dont beat the piss out of it and do regular oil changes, you will nver have to replace the vvt.
I had a 2013 Skyactive turbo that had a turbo replacement in it's third year of ownership, along with two replacement vacuum pumps, replacement oil pickup etc... The list goes on. And the Bluetooth never worked.
You lost all credibility with this video. Toyota and mazda use the same transmissions as of the last few years. And the new Sky Activ Engines are so good that Toyota is using them now.
Alex Williams yup that was really unnecessary for a four cylinder not saving much gas and I believe it what’s causing the 2019 models engine to stall due to the software shutting all cylinders. We have a 2019 cx5 sig we love it, when I heard about the recall I went straight to my dealer service and ask if ours was affected he checked our vin and said no. 👍🏻
I can't seem to find mention of anybody having issues with automatic transmission Mazda CX5s on Edmunds, KBB or CarComplaints. I love ya Scotty but I've recommended this particular car to many people and it seems to be an alright Mazda car. Older Mazdas with Ford transmission are definitely pretty garbage, but they make good cars these days.
Nathan Young Thank You! Absolutely agree! From the owners that I know of 2014 and up in general love their Mazdas. I have a 2016 Mazda 6 GT and in the 3yrs it runs great with NO problems! Soo, is Scotty just passing quick judgment based on the Ford merger days or is there something Im missing? Because mines and my friends and aquaintances that have them love it.
I have a 2016 Mazda 6.. had it two years now and everything rattles. Even the window has a terrible squeal when you roll it down. brought it to my local dealer and they fixed it.. and came back 3 weeks later. Can't wait for the lease to be up. Hell, my '98 Cherokee had less rattles!
GSA 39 yes I do get some rattles, but for Me personally it doesn’t bother Me at all! The car overall does its job and hasn’t given Me any issues. But to each their own all car manufacturers have their own quirks.
hahahaha I have a 2016 Mazda 3 with that crazy window squeal too. It sounds like nails on a chalkboard and when it does it, all the windows do it. Not all the time tho, it's gotta be like 76.3 degrees with 97.1% humidity and the sun facing south west. lololol. Curious what rattles you have though?
Pre-2003-2004 Mazdas may have had auto tranny problems back when they were owned by Ford, but I’ve never seen any newer ones have any problems. The DI engines do need periodic cleaning of the intake valves, but that’s an issue with DI, not Mazda.
Mazda was never really owned by Ford. Mazda had around 30 percent of shares owned by Ford and it saved mazda a LOT of money trying to get cars stateside in the 90s. Ford did make some bad automatic transmission which were often used on mazda cars such as the 626. The transmission wasn't exactly terrible, but they used way to thin of a cooling tube for the transmission cooler which caused transmission overheating and reliability issues.
In my opinion, Kia has caught up to, and even surpassed Toyota in some ways. I have a Spectra with 200k miles and not much wrong with it, and a Sedona and an Optima. Everything seems solid and bolted down nice in all of them. I watched a review of a new Toyota Venza not long ago where the ceiling light was popping out of the headliner. I don't see that kind of stuff on any Kia I've been in.
Had a 2006 Mazda3, 2015 Mazda3 and just got a CX5 Signature. All auto trans and never had a problem. I would recommend the CX5 myself. At least take for a test drive vs other CUVs and check out detailed reviews on RUclips, and CR reports. Very happy with Mazdas, never had any major problem.
I like some of scotty's videos his warship of Toyota is crazy. they have had major issues with things like unexpected acceleration and then hiding it with update during free oilchanges and blaming it on floormats. they might make a decent car but they are super unethical when it come to business practices. by the way for the people who will say it didn't happen I was a passenger in one Corolla that did it twice and a Camry that did it once. there was no way to shut the cars down the first time the Corolla did it an f150 is what stopped it the other 2 time the driver was able to get the car in neutral.
First time I hear about mazda transmission problem, remember new cars will be serviced by the dealers, so not sure how Scotty know about this, mazda don’t use the problematic CVT transmitting.
That's a very good point. Any car that is 3 years old or less or less that 36,000 miles(depending on the warranty) he shouldn't be having to much experience working on them because any issues, people would just take it back to the dealer I would think.
RUclipsdl Acc with in 5 percent early to 1 percent late. Will see how long my 2012 lasts me. Everyone around seems to sell cars every 3 years but I don't have enough money to waste for that.
Mazda didn't have turbo charged skyactiv til the Cx9 came out so it's impossible. I own a 2009 Mazda 5 with 170 thousand miles with an automatic transmission and no issues. I have 4 Mazda vehicles all together and not one gave me issue yet😃
Bullpup Baggins mazda is not a crappy car brand, they are the smallest company of all the giants! Yet the live on, while other are almost hitting bankrupt or hit bankrupt completely. All my cars are on point, I'll take you for a ride, and you can eat your words! Dam hatters🤨
Mazda service writer here..we have little to NO transmission issues ...ive worked for Ford,GM and Nissan, Mazda beats them all hands down..you are giving false information, maybe 2008 CX-7?....SkyActive started in 2016 so you may want to double check and make sure before you post...just saying
I have a Mazda CX5 and its been a great car for 3.5 years, beautiful , responsive and very good on gas, not a hiccup so far, i do the Maintenance like the manual says and i know it will last a very long time.
Scotty is crazy on this. I've had a Mazda CX5 2013 AND 6 2014 for 5 years. At 250,000 plus on both. I change the oil in transmission fluid never had a major issue and the cars drive like a dream... Way better than my old Honda or Mitsubishi.
The transmissions fail because people don’t change their fluid. Scotty already has a video about this and it’s true for any car with an automatic. Skyactiv engines don’t have VVT and the CX-5 doesn’t come with a turbo, and there’s absolutely no way that anyone bought a pre-owned CX-5 at 120K for $2000. The first one was released in 2013 and its still in its first generation. Whatever Scotty is talking about is NOT an new Mazda and Definitely NOT a CX-5. My guess is someone brought in a 2003 Mazdaspeed3 or something and Scotty is comparing a 15 year-old car with notoriously unreliable turbos to a new generation of Mazda. And don’t forget Mazda was dumped by Ford in 2013 and are basically a new company. You really can’t compare the quality from a modern Mazda to something from 2003. And while the automatic isn’t special, Mazda does make some of the best standard transmission in their price segment-and higher.
Isaac Cady direct injection, turbo, vvt and a Mazda...most likely it is the CX7 not CX5. The CX7 is notoriously bad if not looked after and properly maintained. In either case this video is very disappointing coming from Scotty, full of misleading information.
bijhua yep it has to be the CX7 because all the things talked about happening happened to my friends car. That model was also being built when Mazda was still apart of Ford, I haven’t heard of any problems with the sky active Mazda’s those ones are pure Japanese ones.
Ivan Meza That's why BoostedBoiz took out the Boxer Engine and threw in a K20A Vtec RWD and boosted, Already took down WRX and the k20a is not even tuned.
My mother in law has a new Mazda CX9 with 100,000+ miles. No problems aside from the computer in the first month. I have a 2017 CX3 with 60,000 miles and zero problems. Only needs a brake pad replacement due to my style of driving.
My wife has a 2015 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring with 110k and she LOVES it! Japanese reliability with European interior flair. Zero issues in 2 years of ownership. Much better driving experience than the boring Honda Cr-v and Toyota Rav-4 IMO.
We have a 2013 2.2 diesel automatic Mazda from since new. It now has 44,000 miles. It’s used to driving into and around London and up to Scotland. We have had zero issues with this vehicle.
Had a 2016 Mazda 6 and never needed to do anything to it! It was so great car that I bought the cx-5 now and so far I'm loving it! This guy really is stuck in the 90s!
The new Mazda’s use a Asian transmission branded as Skyactiv. And Asian are the transmissions used by Toyota. And anyone who follows Scotty knows Toyotas are reliable.
@@RebootedMind I still have my sonic silver 2016 FWD Touring CX-5 that I bought new. It's been 8 years now and ZERO problems. By far the besr car I've ever owned. Only things I've done is oil changes and tire rotations every 5k miles, and I had to change the battery once and wiper blade inserts. I'm still on the original Yokohama Geolander tires and they have plenty of life left, but I'm planning on probably buying a set of Michelin Defender2's in the next year or so. This vehicle is one of the best long term investments I've ever made.
@@CaboWabotv that’s great to hear. This is my first car that I bought so was pretty nightmarish. Trying to find one that I liked and someone I trust. I would definitely upgrade the tires to some. All terrain if anything. I’ll check out those defenders you’re talking about.
@@RebootedMind you made a great choice. Just make sure you get your oil changed and tires rotated every 5000 miles and the car will treat you good for a long long time. Enjoy it!
As a owner of a 2017 CX-5 I’ve actually found the car to be pretty nice with its economic gas mileage and its new body and interior. I can tell you one thing, it is fun to take on the freeway and put it on sport mode 😂 I also knew this day would come to review about the CX-5 😂
I had respect for you Scotty till you lied throughout this whole video! I own a Mazda 6 and Toyota Camry both 2015 and the Mazda has a much better transmission than my Camry! You said 120K miles on that Mazda you worked on and it was turbocharged. Which means you are referring to the older Mazda before 2014. The picture you posted was of 2014 and newer which is Not turbo charged and much better quality. If you don’t know what your talking about then shut up
The shift logic is total crap. It's programmed to shift way too early, rushes to get to top gear and it's very hesitant to downshift or kickdown unless you absolutely stab the throttle. They do this in the name of fuel economy but it makes for a less than fun or smooth driving experience, it's a safety issue when merging or gently trying to accelerate.
My wife’s 2019 cx5 has 42k on it, transmission just failed the other day. I’ll never buy a Mazda again. Her civic was flawless at 150k. Should have bought another honda. Scottys right again!
I have a standard 2014 mazda 3 hatchback and that little Thing is quite a quick responsive car. No problems with it so far. Idles extremely High though.
Here's a Challenge, Scotty: Make a list of you're favorite/most reliable cars NOT made by Toyota. I really like your advice, however your Toyota bias is, um, quite noticeable. And i understand it, my ex has a Toyota Matrix, and I love Lexus as well, because of their overall quality. But you make it seem like the ONLY car worth buying is a 90s-2000s Toyota
Facts are facts...period. Want the most reliable car you can buy? Then get a Toyota product. Want less reliability? Get something else. Of course, it's a generalization and one CAN have good service from other brands but the ODDS OVERALL aren't as good.
wholeNwon yeah but there's other reliable cars I never hear about here. He sometimes mentions older Accords and Civics but rarely. There's Chevy full size trucks before 2009. Ford Crown Victorias are good cheap cars. I think a video about reliable cars NOT made by toyota could be a big hit
Subaru with a EJ20 / EJ22 is very reliable aswell. My Subaru running strong with 262k miles. Just don't daily your car like you stole it and give it love and it'll love you back. I hear so much problems with Subaru but barely had any, it's comparable to a Toyota or Honda at this point and has AWD.
My CX5 2016 transmission failed last year at 44k miles. Left me stranded on the highway 2 hours from home. Transmission was grinding, then I press on the gas and it revved but the transmission didn’t engage. Had it replaced, covered under extended warranty.
My family has had great luck with mazdas. We have had 3 mazda 3's one has a trans leak but other than that it's been a great car 250k miles no major issues. My mom and sister have a 16 mazda 3 and 5 both are great from what I can see. Transmissions are smooth and they are peppy.
Its true scotty, currently im a mazda technician and there's a lot of transmission replacement. And the mazda R&D didn't do any improvement but just keep giving the same new transmission.. i personally getting sick of it..
Darth Punk do older mazdas have transmission problems as well? I own 2007 mazda5 that has 200,000 kms on it. So far the transmission seems to have no issues. And if yes, at what mileage should i be expecting the problems?
I really like my wife’s 2016 CX5. The skyactiv tech makes the car feel very responsive and the transmission feels solid. We drive 50,000km a year (about 31,000miles) and the car has 106,000km on it with minor issues that were fixed under warranty that don’t have anything to do with engine and tranny. (Wife was on maternity leave for 12 months plus 2 more months of vacation, so got driven very little for 14 months, you Americans need to look into getting some maternity leave for your new moms). One thing also being in Canada we have 5 year unlimited milage warranty. Since we drive so much it was a big selling feature. We looked at rav4, rouge and CX5 (wife hated the styling of Honda) and CX5 had best amount of features for the money with best warranty. We service the car on time so i doubt we will have issues but for 5 years I don’t worry, I could have 500,000km on it and it would still be under warranty. Rouge I really shyer away from because my sister in law has a Rouge that’s on it’s 3rd tranny, good ole CVT. And even though Toyota is considered reliable, they only have 60,000km warranty (at least when we were looking) and for the same price as a Mazda CX-5 we would be missing a lot of safety features (like blind spot monitoring, back up camera) and and a few luxuries (heated seats, sun roof, nav, alloy wheels etc). In my eyes if a company wants to guarantee a product for 5 years it’s a good deal and they have faith in it. Mitsubishi does like 200,000km 7 year here but that’s not unlimited, 200,000km would be 4 years tops for us (if she didn’t take maternity leave) and Ford, Toyota, Honda, GM etc just have laughable warranties here, especially ford. So until my car has tranny or engine issues, I will have faith in Mazda, my Mazda 3 is at 240,000km with auto tranny with no issues (I do tranny flush every 70,000km and oil ever 8,000km as recommended by manufacture) I know Scotty says not to flush but I have been flushing this one since new and oil has always stayed red. CX5 I just just a drain and fill at dealer because that’s what they recommend. Spark plugs at 120,000km and brake fluid as recommended. My goal is to have my Mazda3 beat Scotty’s Celica in milage (needs to cross 400,000km to match the Celica) but it won’t be as old.
Marcin Kawa, I enjoyed reading about your Mazda experience but then realised this was four years ago. Do you still have the Mazda and if so, how many kilometres/issues? We also have unlimited kilometre, five year warranty in Australia.
Scotty, you are a knowledgable mechanic but once every 100 years or so, you are wrong. I traded in a Honda CRV with 4-speed auto on a Mazda CX5 with 6-speed auto. The car has performed flawlessly and, best of all, I can manually shift if I want to. The CX5 handles far better than the CRV, gets 30 mpg compared to 24 mpg for the Honda, and I live in the mountains. If every car were built as well as this Mazda, mechanics like you would be out of business.
Mazda CX5 has been in the top 3 for a good many years with Honda CR. My 2017 CX 5 has been nice very quiet ride. Drove the Natchez Trace with the required 45 mile an hour cruise and got 39 miles per gallon. Too bad we don't drive like that all the time.
Ive had an acura tsx, toyota rav 4, nissan altima 95 and 2008, chrysler town and country, nissan 300zx. Other than the 300zx the 2018 mazda cx 5 is the car i like most. Yes skyactive technology can fail but so can vtech ivtech vvti. Its going to come down to maintenance. I chose the cx5 over a full lineup of hondas. I dont regret it. It drives great and has spirited driving. Not underwhelming to make mpgs like honda or toyota lately. And the steering isnt super loose like the new nissans. Im sorry scotty but you need yo inform yourself. Even hondas transmissions used to suck when they where mating the v6 with a mitusbishi transmission. And the 2001-2005 rav 4 have the worst transmission from toyota. So yes say yes to the cx 5 its a great mix of styling and preformance for the price of a smaller unerwhelming honda with a cvt transmission
Remind me to never ask you for advice... You just lost all credibility! Mazda is consistently considered one of the most reliable brands in the industry... Up there with Toyota. The CX-5 has had NO transmission issues, automatic or manual... So I don't know what you're basing your opinion on, but it's not facts! Mazda's are driver centric cars, like BMW's... If you enjoy a sporty and spirited car, take pleasure in driving and connecting with the car, buy a Mazda. If you want a plush, floater ride, look at other brands.
90k on my 2014 Mazda 6. Haven't even had it two years and put 40,000 miles on it. No problem whatsoever. Replaced my 2006 Mazda 3. I'll take Mazda over Toyota any day of the week. By the way, ask Toyota who is making some of their engines now.
Cvts as auto transmissions are probably the worst type of transmission anyone could put in a car. Cvts are great for atvs and utvs which don't have that much power and don't weigh nearly as much, they work great in those. In cars, they're very sluggish. Fuel ecnomy is good but the car is so slow that its almost dangerous to drive.
I have owned over 20 Mazdas in my lifetime since 1982. Both piston and rotary. I Still have one in the garage and 80% of those cars lasted beyond 250k with minimal maintenance. My last 1995 Mazda MX-3 lasted 322K. Toyota has been begging Mazda to help them make their cars better. That's why they dissolved Scion to invest in Mazda because they produce a great car.
I don’t know. I think Mazdas are definitely pricey and require some special maintenance and special fuel/oil but as long as you take care of it, it should last you a while. If you buy a Mazda, it’s just a known thing that you’ll be paying for all the Mazda specialties but that’s what makes the car so damn good.
My daughter bought a 2012 Mazda CX-9 and it's got 191,000 Mi on it but it runs and drives like a new car. It has a 6-speed automatic transmission and it runs just smooth as butter.
Anybody watching this for the first time please understand that this vid is 3 years old and Scotty has completely reversed his stance on Mazda and their vehicles
I'd have a Mazda over a Toyota any day. Toyota with their rubbish suspension and CVT transmission- no thank you. Oh and their constant recalls.. always something wrong with their cars.
Recalls is a good sign of manufacturers taking responsibility. The opposite is BMW or Mercedes - barely any recall, meaning you and your wallet will cop a beating anytime something goes wrong outside warranty.
Time to get updated with Mazda transmissions, Scott. These are no longer supplied by outside companies. These transmissions are designed and built in-house and are some of the most reliable transmissions of any manufacturer. It's clear you're talking about older Mazda's, which is no longer the case.
My mechanic has said exactly the same advice about the modern turbo Mazdas and changing the oil. Said not doing so can be catastrophic. Not just premature wear but total failure. But he was referring to the pre-SkyActive models.
Cassette Walkman let you in on a little secret, not changing the oil in any vehicle will cause engine problems period. Don't care if it's your lawn mower.
Tracey Allen Not changing your oil at all will indeed have long term consequences but many engines run fine and have long lives even skipping 3 or more changes. I've had 4 stroke lawnmowers that run fine without a change of oil for 10 years. All they need is bath lubrication which even old worn out oil provides. But even some auto engines give long lives with terrible maintenance. Had a diesel Toyota van that had 400,000 kms on it once went about 80,000kms over 3 years without oil change, just top ups. Ran perfectly. Not great for it but whatever, it ran fine. The engines that are more sensitive to oil viscosity changes are ones with hydraulic components such as valve and timing control. Too thin or too thick and they crap themselves.
Tracey Allen Actually have an excavator with a Yanmar 3 cyl diesel. Low tech, from 1985. Just had an oil change last week after ... 7 years. Starts first pop and runs like a top.
I've got a 2013 cx-5 that I have put 130k miles on it. It still shifts like brand new with a automatic. Those are also Autobahn miles so 120+MPH. I've had zero issues with this car. It's time to update your stereotypes. Mazda is a great car brand now.
Its rich, an american saying a Japanese car has bad transmission. US and EU cars are notorious at breaking down all the time. Mazdas have one, if not the best drive-train and transmissions as they do not use CVT.
In 2008 I bought a Honda Element and ordered a manual transmission. I plan on having it a long time. Also I have a Toyota PU 24 years old now. Manual transmission. Scotty you are simply the best.
Funny I came across this video. I had my 2016 CX5 transmission replaced at 5,000 miles. I also had really weird one off repairs (control arm failure, infotainment not working etc). Dealership on their own decision decided to replace it with a brand new one. Haven’t had a problem at 20k miles now!
Um I have a 2016 cx5 grand touring. It handles better and feels smoother than alot of newer cars I have been in. Just wish it was quicker and the turbo model is to expensive.
I totally agree with Scotty I have a 2014 mazda 6 with 160000 miles and my auto 6 speed transmission went out at 125000 miles and it would drive skipping first gear and make a nasty thump noise when it finally grabbed and the mazda dealer wanted 7000 to change it so I just got a used one with 12000 miles on it got it serviced and have never had a problem ever since oil changes at 7500 miles and transmission fluid change at 30K and so far so good for now
in some way he is kinda right, toyota have proved to be a 100% reliable brand ,so the it is as follows, why buy something that you are not sure about while you can buy something 100% good
well he's not wrong about the corolla - i have over 200k on my 08 one (got brand new) and the only unplanned repair i did was the known TSB intake rubber gasket which only costed 8 bucks, still runs like it's brand new
yup helped a ton during the financial depression - an excellent first car choice if you are tight on money and only care about going from point A to B spending as little money as possible. Once you build up your finance and have a steady income that can handle more risks and repairs can go with a little more fun car if you have to get one.
My 2015 Mazda 3 runs well. The only issue I have had so far is the battery going dead last year. I bought it used from a dealership. Used a scan tool, inspected the car and available fluids. I will keep an eye on the transmission and get the fluid changed.

Scotty Kilmer.. is a 2004 Mazda 6 standard transmission with 255,000 miles worth 900 bucks? Regular oil changes done on it. Thanks!!!
Hey Scott I wonder what do you think of tuning or increasing the hp of toyota corolla?
Are mazdas good and reliable I'm thinking of getting a miata or speed 3 for my first car
Yasin Is King , transfer cases blow up, the engines are reliable, but if the water pump goes bad, that’s an expensive repair, if it is fwd go for it
Mazda transmissions are made by Aisin which is the same company that makes Toyota’s transmissions!
Russell Wiggins Yes, still Aisin 👍🏻
Eman 08 Mazda was with Ford from 1996 until mid 2015. After that they joined Toyota that year in the summer.
Russell Wiggins no mazda=ford they use some ford parts
NascarFan1795 no not in new mazdas thats in older mazdas
You dropped the ball on this one. The Mazda CX5 is one of the best vehicles ever made. The automatic transmissions in them are extremely dependable.
Exactly. Consumer reports says these cars are super reliable. There are TONS of CX-5's out there with way over 200k miles. Changing the trans fluid is EZ PZ so do it every 30k or so.
Got a 2015 CX5 and it's still going strong.
Had a 14 cx5 with automatic transmission. put 200k on it without a single issue. I did have the dealer perform a trans flush at 100k

Hi! Is your cx5 awd?
Getting a 2017 CX-5 today and seen nothing but good things about it’s reliability. Is yours still kicking today?? 😂
Good to hear. I just bought a 2013 with around 98k miles. A 2.0 awd.
It seems good so far and the handling is fantastic.
@@FixItYerself a year later after this video he made a video called "I Was Wrong about Mazda" saying he was wrong about the cx5 😎
The transmission and the rear end both went out on my uncle's 2017 CX-5 with the 2.5...
My wife bought a 2018 CX-5 AWD and the trans went kaput before 10,000 miles. They replaced the transmission with a new one direct from Japan.
@@n9909e my 2013 Mazda6 is still running strong. Have not had a single repair yet other than routine maintenance like oil changes , brake pads and tires. I am at 90k miles and on the original brake rotors. The way it is running getting 250K out of it looks very much possible.
Years later Scotty created a video telling us that he was wrong about Mazda. Really, he did.
LOOOOOL
Respect to Scotty to own up to his mistakes or making actual effort to correct himself 👏
He was not wrong at all with the motor. Head cracking and head gasket is the biggest 2.5 and 2.2 issue its happening a LOT. Mazda released many TSBs and now is about to release a Recall. The 2018-2019 are the worst but the 2015 to 2019 are all affected.
@@ToyotaAristo wrong. this is completely false.
WE JUST BOUGHT A 2019 CX5 BACK IN JUNE WITH 38,000 MILES ON IT. THE CAR IS LIKE BRAND NEW INSIDE AND OUT AND STILL SMELLS NEW. MANY TRIPS TO TENNESSEE ALREADY. PLAN ON KEEPING THIS GIRL FOR A VERY LONG TIME.
Mazda is just as good if not better than Toyota/Honda in my region.
Amen brother !.
I have a 2011 Mazda 3 with 270000 miles and the only thing I had to replace is fuel pump and wide band O2 sensor, it still runs perfect and has original clutch, I love Mazda cars.
Agree...prev owner of 2 Toyotas in the past and currently own a Mazda and getting another one. They are both reliable brands!
Mazda are hit and miss..in australia their diesels are an unmitigated disaster and subject of a class action
Akhyar Rayhka true!!!
However scottie said this 4 years ago before all this data was available and he was taking his judgements from mazdas past ( which i wouldent do up until 2015 mazdas was partnered with GM and used GM parts such as GM transmission parts ever since 2016 and up they use mazda parts and toyota parts as they are partnered with toyota now not GM)
Cx-5 is a fine car to own and will last you plenty of miles without issue and when the issue occurs its cost to repair is cheaper on average than a honda toyota ford etc.
@@FixItYerself yeah, and followed by a video where he explains why the auto gearboxes of the cx-5 are reliable compared to others used by mazda
how do you like it?
New mazda engines and transmission are all made in Japan, gone are the days of Ford parts and questionable reliability. I wouldn't be concerned at all of the reliability of a new Mazda even with an automatic transmission.
Jalpa YES! THANK YOU!!!
The car he’s talking about is a CX7 because the CX5 isn’t old enough to be that cheap yet, plus it doesn’t even come with a turbo..
The CX7 had a lot of issues, that motor was not exactly good.
stop asking me to change my name!
Havent heard any issues with the new transmissions in mazdas
egor like wait 3 to 5 years when they start to break down.
Paul Williams why wait? the skyactiv technology came out in 2012 i think? so if there were major problems with the auto 6 speed it would be known

In Australia, you can only get the Manual Transmission in FWD in the 2L Petrol Engine.
Mine has issues when y brake
Me too I have the 6 speed auto with 2.0 my is a 2014 one
Still love your channel.

ive had several and none have every left me stranded all good on gas and go through emission without problems isn't that crazy to not have to spend 1000's a year on maintenance just oil, brakes, and battery I work at a parts store I see what cars come in with the same problems with the same parts broken and they mostly drive a Toyota there to get the part for the (brand name here) stuck in their driveway or on the side of the road.
Have fun with your boring economy boxes..
I have a 2013 Mazda CX-5 automatic with 160k miles
How it’s running now
Give update
we as a family in Australa have2 2013 Mazda CX5;s in Australia and they are excellent great economy also
this is bull. Mazda didn't have any skyactiv turbos that would have that many miles. He just looks to slam every other brand but Toyota. If everyone was like him there would be NO automotive industry. Not everyone wants to keep a car for 20 years.
Scotty was probably smoking something in that Celica trunk.
He just wants everyone to drive boring Toyotas 😪
Love my 2014 Mazda 3..its a 6 speed manual tho with. The 2.0 skyactiv..still runs great, drives l il ke new..70k miles.
(That is if you dont mod it like every owner, including myself has done.)
Also, if you dont beat the piss out of it and do regular oil changes, you will nver have to replace the vvt.
I’m pretty sure Scotty is talking about the CX7 but if that was in the title would we even bother watching a bit about a discontinued car?
hahahaha I have a 2016 Mazda 3 with that crazy window squeal too. It sounds like nails on a chalkboard and when it does it, all the windows do it. Not all the time tho, it's gotta be like 76.3 degrees with 97.1% humidity and the sun facing south west. lololol. Curious what rattles you have though?
Scotty don’t know Mazdas! Mine has 324k miles. Never left me stranded!!!
They still have transmission issues.
I have owned 4 Mazda’s. They are amazing and no issues
I'm loving my 2016 mazda 3 hatchback. will save money for a mx5 next time
I have 5 Mazdas in a role, and the next one will be Mazda:)
Scotty, please make a video about Hyundai and Kia, I'd love to hear your opinion about them
NightShadeGT their trash end of story 😂😂😂
If he thinks Mazda makes a bad product it's an absolute sure thing that he'll have terrible things to say about Hyundai and Kia.
Hint: "it's not a Toyota so it's Junk"
-Probably what Scotty would say
I agree!
Had a 2006 Mazda3, 2015 Mazda3 and just got a CX5 Signature. All auto trans and never had a problem. I would recommend the CX5 myself. At least take for a test drive vs other CUVs and check out detailed reviews on RUclips, and CR reports. Very happy with Mazdas, never had any major problem.
i have an 06 Mazda 5 2.3L with no issues as well at 250,000 miles.
"What do I think about the CX-5? Its not a Toyota/Lexus so its gonna break and fall apart in 2k miles!"
- Scotty Kilmer
Xzstnce *break 🤤😨😬🤡
I like some of scotty's videos his warship of Toyota is crazy. they have had major issues with things like unexpected acceleration and then hiding it with update during free oilchanges and blaming it on floormats. they might make a decent car but they are super unethical when it come to business practices.
by the way for the people who will say it didn't happen I was a passenger in one Corolla that did it twice and a Camry that did it once.
there was no way to shut the cars down the first time the Corolla did it an f150 is what stopped it the other 2 time the driver was able to get the car in neutral.
micky maust Is this a problem in all Toyota vehicles? Like the 4Runner?
Kevin Norris
I honestly dont know and the issue I am talking about was around 2007 to 2010 I think.
the issue was not caused by floormats. it was caused by the programming in the drive by wire system
Dunno man. Got a mazda and two decades later and was happy. Bough a brand new one again with auto and happy. I do change all oils on time.
sigor2011 how "on time" were you? Didn't try to squeeze out another 1%0 to 20% more mileage before oil change?
RUclipsdl Acc with in 5 percent early to 1 percent late. Will see how long my 2012 lasts me. Everyone around seems to sell cars every 3 years but I don't have enough money to waste for that.
Coming from a Mazda Technician I seen CX-5 Automatic Transmission go up to 150k no problem.
170k here.
Shocking.
Mazda didn't have turbo charged skyactiv til the Cx9 came out so it's impossible. I own a 2009 Mazda 5 with 170 thousand miles with an automatic transmission and no issues. I have 4 Mazda vehicles all together and not one gave me issue yet😃
your anecdotal evidence is less than the producer of this video.
Mazda is a very reliable vehicle,
Mazda service writer here..we have little to NO transmission issues ...ive worked for Ford,GM and Nissan, Mazda beats them all hands down..you are giving false information, maybe
2008 CX-7?....SkyActive started in 2016 so you may want to double check and make sure before you post...just saying
Eman 08 who makes Kia and Hyundai’s 6 speed transmission?
How could he get it so wrong? CX7 and CX5 don’t look engraving alike, they share no parts apart from the Mazda badging two completely different cars
Isaac Cady 8
The new Mazda CX-5 is amazing!
Scotty, I'd like to hear your opinion on Subaru

Hi scotty Kilmer. Can you do a video on what happen if you keep slamming your car door
Lo Ranger it closes the car door if you slam it
Lo Ranger that's a good one since I close and go in and out of my car 100 times a day for work.
Or worse, when you keep slamming it with the seat belt jammed in it.
Learn how to just close it. git gud.
Lo Ranger this is actually terrible for your car! Only broke bois with no cars slam doors.
We have had zero issues with this vehicle.
yeah I have bough used with 85k miles, she runs like a baby..
You know there are other makes out there that get over 150k miles than Toyota and Honda, right?
Dilly Dally Lol my Mazda 6 has 185000 on it and it's running like a champ
Yeah, he didn't mention Nissan and Hyundai. KIA and Subaru seem pretty good too.
I own an 02 eclipse spyder with almost 200k runs awesome and surprisingly really fun to drive
Kevin Norris but you have to be mechanical congnitve
Dilly Dally you have to be mechanical congtive
Had a 2016 Mazda 6 and never needed to do anything to it! It was so great car that I bought the cx-5 now and so far I'm loving it! This guy really is stuck in the 90s!
The new Mazda’s use a Asian transmission branded as Skyactiv. And Asian are the transmissions used by Toyota. And anyone who follows Scotty knows Toyotas are reliable.
I believe you mean AISIN not Asian.

I have an automatic CX5 and never had a problem with it. Best vehicle Ive ever owned!
I just bought a 2019 with 30,000 miles. Is this still true? Any issues?

As a owner of a 2017 CX-5 I’ve actually found the car to be pretty nice with its economic gas mileage and its new body and interior. I can tell you one thing, it is fun to take on the freeway and put it on sport mode 😂 I also knew this day would come to review about the CX-5 😂
I own a 2018 Mazda CX-5 and I love it. It is absolutely fantastic. Would definitely get one again.

If you don’t know what your talking about then shut up
You hit the nail. 🤣🤣🤣
What is wrong with the automatic transmissions of the new Mazda’s?
Absolutely nothing. They make one of the smoothest automatics on the market.
Xzstnce I know. I was just wondering what in the world he was talking about. Their 6 speed automatics are some of the best transmissions out there.
I own a 2017 Mazda 6 I’m at about 6,000 no issues so far.
Try any car with a ZF automatic. Very smooth.
My wife’s 2019 cx5 has 42k on it, transmission just failed the other day. I’ll never buy a Mazda again. Her civic was flawless at 150k. Should have bought another honda. Scottys right again!
I have a standard 2014 mazda 3 hatchback and that little
Thing is quite a quick responsive car. No problems with it so far. Idles extremely
High though.
Here's a Challenge, Scotty:
Make a list of you're favorite/most reliable cars NOT made by Toyota.
Lexus GS
Lexus IS
Lexus ES
Lexus RX
Nameless User all the parts are either from Brazil or Mexico... they do only the assembly part of the job in Kentucky
Hi Scotty Kilmer, I have revved up my engine, what next?
Ace FLOOR IT

And if yes, at what mileage should i be expecting the problems?
do the older mazdas have these transmission problems? I own a 92 miata and is the manual transmission good in it as long as i dont push it too hard
Anton Litvinau no not all mazda..only some skyactiv models
liam as far as i know, only some skyactiv models have these kind of issues
chad haire sounds like you didn't even know what's happening in the workshop department
In other words....buy a grey 94 celica
2014 cx5…I’ve got almost 200k now. Zero issues. I know two friends with them and same experience. They are GREAT little suvs.
If every car were built as well as this Mazda, mechanics like you would be out of business.
good one
after 5 years then say it again ;)
@@sohai176 I'm at 7 in my skyactiv Mazda 3. 180,000 miles and runs great. Just took it to the mountains for a camping trip the other weekend...
Once again, my daughter in law has had lots of transmission issues with her Toyota Corolla.
Brand new 1987 Mazda MX6 automatic transmission started slipping within 6 months of purchase. I see they’re keeping the tradition going.
Aren't the Nissan cvt transmissions the worst Scotty ?
yes
Except for maybe the Hyundai dct like was in the Tucson.
The mazda CX5 uses a mazda skyactive drive transmission which is a very good transmission. Cx5 has never used a jatco or ford transmission
I had mazda demio 99, mazda 2 08, and now I bought used cx5 2014 with 139k km on it.. Yeah mazda is great!
Um.. there never was a turbocharged Mazda CX5 in N.America. C'mon Scotty you are better than this. Still love ya man. your channel is great.
Acuravigor47 I think he was thinking of the CX-7 which did have a turbocharged engine that was reliable at being unreliable.
It was a 7,get a life 47
My daughter bought a 2012 Mazda CX-9 and it's got 191,000 Mi on it but it runs and drives like a new car. It has a 6-speed automatic transmission and it runs just smooth as butter.
Anybody watching this for the first time please understand that this vid is 3 years old and Scotty has completely reversed his stance on Mazda and their vehicles
Love you Scotty, but have to disagree. Wife's Mazda Cx5 is Auto 2.5 non turbo. 200k miles and still runs like a champ. 2014 bought new in 2013.
Even the 4runner? I've heard good things about them.
Mazda just passed Toyota for #1 on Consumer Reports Reliability ratings. What was that you said about not being a 150,200,300 thousand mile car?
i had a 2002 mazda protege with an auto and it lasted 250k mi before i sold it for $600
Time to get updated with Mazda transmissions, Scott. These are no longer supplied by outside companies. These transmissions are designed and built in-house and are some of the most reliable transmissions of any manufacturer. It's clear you're talking about older Mazda's, which is no longer the case.
@Mr602 I'm talking about newer model year units.
Yup they manufacture their own transmission in house
Their in-house 6-speed is garbage.
Cassette Walkman get a modern mechanic
Cassette Walkman that's cool it's folks like you that keep me working 60 hour weeks. Keep up the good work.
I've got a 2013 cx-5 that I have put 130k miles on it. It still shifts like brand new with a automatic. Those are also Autobahn miles so 120+MPH. I've had zero issues with this car. It's time to update your stereotypes. Mazda is a great car brand now.
Oh nonsense!!! The auto in my CX5 is excellent. It’s uncomplicated yet performs exactly as needed.
Its rich, an american saying a Japanese car has bad transmission. US and EU cars are notorious at breaking down all the time. Mazdas have one, if not the best drive-train and transmissions as they do not use CVT.
Scotty you're wrong, I've been driving Mazdas for 24 years, excellent cars!
In 2008 I bought a Honda Element and ordered a manual transmission. I plan on having it a long time. Also I have a Toyota PU 24 years old now. Manual transmission. Scotty you are simply the best.
Your outdated Scotty, Mazda’s don’t use ford’s transmissions anymore.
Sorry Scotty but Mazda as change a lot and now there very good
Um I have a 2016 cx5 grand touring. It handles better and feels smoother than alot of newer cars I have been in. Just wish it was quicker and the turbo model is to expensive.
Worst transmission???
It is so responsive compared to it’s competitors
Have you drive any skyactive mazda before you made this vid???
I have a second transition afterthe 17k km and after 1k the new has the same issues. Cx5 2y old.
I totally agree with Scotty I have a 2014 mazda 6 with 160000 miles and my auto 6 speed transmission went out at 125000 miles and it would drive skipping first gear and make a nasty thump noise when it finally grabbed and the mazda dealer wanted 7000 to change it so I just got a used one with 12000 miles on it got it serviced and have never had a problem ever since oil changes at 7500 miles and transmission fluid change at 30K and so far so good for now
Scotty's answer is always if it is not a Toyota corolla do not buy it.
in some way he is kinda right, toyota have proved to be a 100% reliable brand ,so the it is as follows, why buy something that you are not sure about while you can buy something 100% good
well he's not wrong about the corolla - i have over 200k on my 08 one (got brand new) and the only unplanned repair i did was the known TSB intake rubber gasket which only costed 8 bucks, still runs like it's brand new
obviously it's a pretty boring car but you can't really have reliability and fun all at the same time
yup helped a ton during the financial depression - an excellent first car choice if you are tight on money and only care about going from point A to B spending as little money as possible. Once you build up your finance and have a steady income that can handle more risks and repairs can go with a little more fun car if you have to get one.
yeah , that's what i did now i get around 8-9 k a month and i have a LEASED Lamborghini Huracan and i spent around 5 k a month for it
My 2015 Mazda 3 runs well. The only issue I have had so far is the battery going dead last year. I bought it used from a dealership. Used a scan tool, inspected the car and available fluids. I will keep an eye on the transmission and get the fluid changed.
My mazda 6 v6 has an automátic transmission and 140 thousand miles with 0 problems. Do someone know common problems of my car.
