    Dude you should watch sreten from M539 Restoration he has an insane amount of useful information in both brands and quality components on parts. And just has pretty in depth videos on service jobs with torque specs and procedures. He links special tools or parts manufacturers as well

    Pro tip: When you put the Vise Grips on the hood strut, angle them towards the center of the engine compartment. That way, if/when the hood does come down on them, you won’t now need to repair the fender.
    Another Pro Tip: Just get new struts. They are $20.

    • @MrJbipes
      @MrJbipes 7 месяцев назад +5

      Just watched another car repair YT that had a small plastic screw-clamp for just this problem. They said now they assume ALL struts will sag and drop. They showed a damaged BMW hood from an engine support bracket after the hood dropped.

    Doesn't look like spun bearings, and they don't look bad at all in general for that generation of BMW V8's and V10's. Nice work, keep it up! Fun fact: I did motorsports photography for Turner a while back, Will and the team are awesome people!

    The power steering fluid is the wrong kind. It should be the same you used for the Porsche CHF11S. That could be your sound. Those reservoirs also have a non serviceable filter. I would get a new one, flush all the fluid, and hope your pump is not hurt.

    It always amazes me (in a bad way) how clapped out many ///M BMWs end up over there in the US. Seems like couple owners in people who really can't afford to run and maintain them (the way they should) get their hands on these and give the brand its bad rep. Its just amusing (also not in a good way) how much shit people talk about RELIABILITY when they put zero maintenance into a car.

    Belt/tensioner are known to make wild noises when on their last legs.
    You might want to double-check the oil filter housing gasket as those are known to leak. At this point? Water pumper and thermostat might as well be swapped while you’re there.

    I gotta say I prefer the substitles on this video as supposed to the last one, it felt less like idiotic short form content made to be watched with no volume or a song in the background (say... tiktok for example) and more like something to aid people who are in a loud space when you aren't talking clearly for one reason or another, or who have lost their attention span to aforementioned types of media lol.
    Enjoying this car, I was actually thinking I would love to have one of these for both a project car and eventual daily driver, which from me is saying something since at the moment I really wouldn't consider buying much. Either way, thanks for the great vid!

    9:06 always put a little bit of silicone on both sides of the gasket and the seams of the metal parts, tighten the bolts of the pan a little,wait 15 min tighten them completely. Don’t fill with oil just wet ,wait a few hours (a night if you can) and then put the oil and start the engine and you will have no leaks. On this German vehicles there are always leaks so I find that method successful.
    I love the works you do keep pushing on it .🤙🏻

    I would Check the power steering pump. Spin the wheel a couple of times from side to side and hold it there for like 3 seconds. That could fix the sound youre hearing. It sounds like you have air in the system of the power steering.

  • @bmvvsevo
    @bmvvsevo 7 месяцев назад +1

    Matt, just in case you will decide to drop the transmission and do the clutch, I wanted to note a few things from my experience. Ive dropped the transmission twice in last 3 months on my E92 M3 (on jackstands - no fun :). What Ive struggled with the first time is the separation of the tranny from the engine. You will learn that you have to manipulate the angle of transmission while it is separating from the engine in a certain way. My struggle was the last 3-5mm of input shaft clearance out of the clutch cover pins - it was just not clearing. In the end what I have done is just give it a hard push towards back it it popped out. You might know all that already but in any case.... Also, Ive been following your work for a while. I have E36 M3 that is receiving an LS2 currently. Gathered a lot of great info from your E36 project. Thank you very much for that. Good luck

On one side Matt Ross refers to the car as a disaster and nightmare. He clearly doesnt like the platform and does not see other potential except you tibe content. On the other hand, Sreten does love BMWs and does not cut corners (unlike Matt) and imagines the final result and the joy he will be having along the journey. Instead, Matt seems in pain. as an observer...Your workshop is uninspiring....dirty. You don't clean parts before replacing them on the car. At around "10:00 " you should have lowered the hoist a foot or two. The cross member is filthy. If the slave cylinder and new serv ice line leak then they are an incorrect match in fitting or wrong thread. Bearing shells can't spin on one half only. Use well plaed small cable ties to hold your sump gasket to the pan while replacing sump. Did you clean the sump inside?....you didn't outside. Don't use vyce grips on any polished shaft..as you did with the bonnet. struts......use the correct and special clamps. Overall...? I wouldn't allow you to work on my BMW's or actually any car...you are not houseproud...
