Its time for BMW to inspect the cheap BMW M5 Competition that i just rebuilt. Ive done all the repairs myself despite being advised that the structural repair should only be carried out by trained technicians. It wasn't long until the BMW tech picked up a few mistakes and explained why i had voided my warranty immediately .

The BMW warranty bit was really interesting. And terrible news for pop+bang map 130i owners everywhere 😂
Exactly, off too post onto the m135i xdrive group
Its not a blanket warranty void, its a catagory void, for instance if you have an engine failure and the map is deemed to be the cause because driveway fred with his 50quid remaps did it then your engine and gearbox warranty is gone, But your warranty for your brake calipers, heated seats, infortainment etc would all still be covered by warranty.
You can just disconnect the gps then map it and then reconnect.
@@gedbino2610 There is a counter on the ECU incremented each time it's flashed, so your "solution" doesn't work ;)
Can’t beat a nice bit of bore wash to detonate a German Ford engine
Dealership inspection videos are always my favorite, they're like a testament to what someone can do with enough dedication.
It really is inspiring. Great validation for all the hard work Mat is putting in.
I wish more RUclipsr would do this instead of going to their "Friend Mechanic" or some random Mechanic. If you want proper Information and Evaluation, you should always go to the Experts. Seen tons of other RUclipsr Videos where the Mechanic either spreads Nonsense or because he isn't an Expert on that certain Brand/Model says more is broken than it actually is, because "Buy bad, badly treated Car, bring it to Mechanic and add a Title like "My new (enter car name) is an absolute Nightmare!" and then act surprised it has issues despite buying a really badly treated Model.
This is also why i prefer Mat Armstrong
@@chartreux1532 check out m539 restorations, he only does BMW rebuilds but in his latest video he talked about taking one of his finished cars to the dealership to get their review. He is insanely meticulous in his restorations so it's pretty fitting.
The old saying prevails...Do it right,do it once. Well done team Armstrong.
Yeah, exactly, with dedication everyone can do everything i would say, obv you need some minor skills at least, and mat has it
It’s crazy how all these top dealerships are giving Matt so much access. Testament to him and his channel and the influence he is generating 👏🏾
Its nice to see the dealers care and understand the connection between fans, customers and enthusiasts.
*Mat*
I’d trust that bmw dealer great business for them
Is very important specially if Matt will decide sometime latter to sell the car (obviously not soon.. he will enjoy it) but if he ever will sell it he will have this BMW approved inspection advantage rated to 8 out of 10 which is well done considering the car was saved !!! Tanks Mat for such great content
Good for business...
I wish the mechanics/technicians who service and look after my car were as knowledgeable as the guys you had!
ofcourse they pick one of the best for the video
don't wanna look like a mug infront of 1.49Million people either lol
Knowledgable is one, executing that knowledge or caring about it is something else
@@ChrisWijtmans
"Of course they pick one of the best for the video" That made me laugh because most of the Time it's the opposite, they pick the worst on purpose.
Lots of People who do Videos showing how "unreliable" a Car they bought is and all it's Problems, they of course pick the worst one on Purpose, then bring it to a Mechanic (Usually also a RUclipsr) who then confirms how terrible that Car is - this brings more Views than bringing a Car to a Mechanic who then says "Everything is great" because People love Drama and want to see how bad a Car is and make fun of it. This brings more Views
@@chartreux1532 why the fuck would BMW want to come off as incompetent?
If US BMW dealers had mechanics like that, I’d be buying a BMW tomorrow.
What an amazing set of professionals!
That's so unfortunately true 😂
They are like this in Australia too.
Seriously not just bmw Mercedes too
They do but it’s not common. If they had a big RUclipsr coming to film, they would’ve had the best of the best.
I got lucky , my technician and service advisor in Austin are amazing
Have u guys realized that Mat has 1.49 million subs and the majority of his videos have at least 1.4 million views? The 99.9% of his subscribers watch his videos! Your energy and passion is admirable dude. Great content
Im addictee to the channel , I have separation anxiety when he doesn't post
He’s getting some serious numbers!!
That's not how that works at all.
this one has more than total subscribers
His are the only videos I watch from start to finish and every single playlist video AT THE NORMAL SPEED. Totally addicted and can't get enough. Really been binge watching.
What makes Mat such a joy to watch in his videos, is that his demeanor and smile are just so authentic. It’s quite refreshing.
Mat smiles even when he looks worried 😬
Yeah❤
Will you be asking for his hand in marriage?
His poor English gives me a headache!
i trust mat's repair more than i would a repair shop
Anyone willing to video them repairing a car will make sure they repair it properly rather than bodging it. Bodging it on camera just makes you look like a moron.
Not his rivet work, there was no torquing on the rivets when installed going back in so all those rivets are not up so spec
@@notfiveoRead my mind! Hilarious!
Oooft come off it. I love the guy for having a go but there is usually some weapons grade bodging going on 😂

Hi Mat, quick update from the Netherlands: the skirts are supposed to be this long!! We have the same here with the G20 3 series here. They are supposed to be starting at the backside wheel gap and to end somewhere middle of the front passenger door. That has to do with the lighting in the sill (the bottom part of the side of the car (don’t know if this is the exact word sorry). This exterior lighting will be blocked otherwise.
Yup m340i owner here came to say the same thing. Those skirts are the correct size for the puddle lights.
Wow Mat, The BMW is looking amazing. My partner was watching the video when you first got it. She said there is no way he is going to get that fixed. Sadly she passed away due to stage 4 liver cancer without seeing the finished car. Well done it looks amazing. Not sure I like the colour. I think I would have gone for a nice blue.
May she rest in perfect peace. She sure is seeing the car now from heaven 🙏
Seriously, enjoy watching you and your dad work on these projects. In this, I can live vicariously through the two of you to imagine what it could've been like to have had such an amazing relationship with a father who was actually present.
My dad was a car guy and he loved German cars especially BMW, this one hits extra hard 🥲
Im the same.
My dad was a volkswagen lover and i myself was italian and american fan
Dude the respect these guys give you is so awesome to see, best advertisement for BMW ever imo - they aren’t just gear heads, they are Mat heads too !! It’s like they want to see you succeed as much as you do !
Whoever spotted that missing knee-airbag-clip, well done you!
For me that’s the most impressive rebuild you’ve done yet Mat. Congrats and well done man 👏
I'm quite impressed by that dealer. Usually when I visit a dealership it's for parts and I'm directed to a discreet door of shame.
Yep. You walk through that revolving door to a smile and a ‘Can I help you?’. As soon as you say you’re just visiting the parts desk they look at you in disgust. 😂
Usually lovely blonde female variant too
@@wrongmarkthey throw your coffee in the bin and snatch back their copy of the Financial Times
apart from the actual rebuild videos, these end inspections are up there with my favourites, its so interesting to see about the mapping and how they can see that
Great video as always. Props to BMW for allowing you to record almost everything! Loved it!
Hello Marketing teams at car manufacturers, This is how you engage with customers.
A true testament to where Mat is now.....what a long way he has come!!! Respect.
I love the mods Mat (the ones you fitted!). That guy at the BMW dealership was really informative too. Good video.
That BMW dealership was a 10/10. The tech was golden. He was seriously informative and seem to be a genuinely nice guy. Great vid.
Hey Matt, I really love that you bring your repaired cars back to the dealership for feedback.
It helps you grow and get better at what you do with full transparency. Love ya work!
The fact this car still exists is testament to Matt! And props to those mechanics, eyes like hawks and not a detail missed. Great video!
8/10 and that must include the rear shock ! That’s a great result.
I’m impressed that these main dealers are prepared to review your cars and let you film them.
Seriously enjoy watching and listening to the progression and improvements Matt's made to his skills and knowledge. And there's such a feelgood vibe from these uploads! Thanks for the smiles and positivity Matt 🙌🏽
Spot on - some of Matt's earlier videos made me fear for his life lol. His skills and understanding seems to be ramped up "just a bit" now :)
I'll take an 8 out of 10 M5 ALL DAY baby!! Very nice work Mat, really loving how well you're doing. Hard work beats talent 100%
Give it a week and it will be 5 out of 10, BMW are POS.
I just found your channel, and I have to say that your 2 videos on having your cars looked over and rated have been my favorite. Its really great to watch. And nerve wracking for some reason
Same! I only came across this channel a couple days ago, and watched the whole M5 rebuild and been hooked! It's great to see the enthusiasm that Mat has put into this car, and for not exactly a professional has done a great job on it!
Its so awesome that you're able to film all this at the dealership. I imagine in the states they wouldnt let you film at all. Also, good to know about that GPS thing. I'd rather not have big brother tracking every action I take in my car.
Good luck buying a modern car without that feature
They know where you are not what you're doing. Well I mean they will know if you're going at speed while remaining stationary but other than that it's only location data. And that's the same data your phone is collecting as well and honestly for a similar reason.
Might aswell throw your mobile phone in the bin
I’m not convinced that BMW are alerted to a car being on a dyno, or that this data is logged anywhere in the car. I suspect the guy is just talking rubbish there. Even if they could, it’s not proof that it’s been mapped on its own.
@@wrongmark It's 100% true. They can see everything and the a car is doing speeds of say 130mph but the car isn't actually moving it flags up. I've seen this with my own eyes so know its true. Also once they plug into the car they can see if the vehicle has been mapped
The NHS ought to offer Mat's videos in place of therapy! The 20 or so minutes blast of sunny disposition and can-do attitude you get does more to combat anxiety and depression than any number of pills!😅🥰
Rich is a very very cool lad, obviously knows his stuff and knows how to treat a customer. Well done BMW Leicester and Rich.
BMW was the car i first got,,when I was done with this world,,,and then,,,,i fell in love with its performance,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,you NEVER get scared in them,,,,they always take you pAST the limit of what YOU thought a car could do,,,they GIVE you WHAT you pay for,,NO ONE does that,,,another reason I LOVE BMW,,,,,,merc is nice BMW is ,,,the NASCAR,,,love it
Nice result Matt. Doing things properly with structural stuff is the smart way. No bodging with welds lol. Another nice job.
Hey, I was watching that Murci video!! Bring it back up!
Fr
Same man why'd he private the vid
He probably needed to change something
will be back up tmz. it got a copyright claim
Damn
I’m not a bmw fan but that m5 looks awesome. Maybe I’m slowly converting at least to the m5. Looks great love the mods you did.
I wasn't a BMW fan until I started watching Mat's channel and now I want an M8 but my wallet won't let me 😅
But at least I have this channel to live vicariously through 😂
Yea same here lol
@@thomascross8216 I had an M550i as a courtesy car (fuck knows how!). Its basically a comfortable M5 so if budget ever allowed id get one in a heartbeat!
I believe this vid make more BMW fun than any of Official BMW ad. Well done mate welcome the club. 👍👍👍💪💪💪
Love Mudge Island. I lived on the island full time for 12 years until we sold 4 years ago. The cottage in the video was only a few lots west of my home (2 lots east of the Marina). I can tell you this. The summer sunsets from the dock (and I believe the hot tub) shown in this video are spectacular and the owner has spared no expense developing this property over the years.
A testament to your hugely developing skills Mat. Nice one.
The dealerships are doing themselves a massive favour by presenting the way they are. I'm sure they know it benefits them to be approachable and easy going but still having the expertise and product knowledge.
Another strong repair Mat! 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿 8/10 is a fine result given it's not fully finished yet.
Getting the inside dealer garage inspection lowdown are your best videos I’m so impressed that they are happy for you to film in the secret world of dealers garages
I used to work in a bmw shop in Puerto Rico, and it's the only job I regret to quit. I left in 2011, and still today i missed, I love BMW culture and had 7 bmw since
Let’s go! Matt be poppin off with these uploads, keep it up ❤️
*Mat*
That’s cool how they have machines that literally tell them everything.. Other than some cosmetic stuff but still neat👌🏽
Mat.. Whenever I come home after a shitty day and I see you post a video my face is smiling from ear to ear :)) Peace bro :*
Same
for real
His energy is something different
Yep when you pull out the clip it shorts the pins to disable the airbag for safe removal . If the clips are missing, then the terminals are connected and the car is mad . Glad you figured it out most airbag devices are this way for future reference. Love the channel thanks
Wild that not torqued down bolts could have been the sound I was hearing on my m5 lol
Who doesn't like modifications? I love this BMW, it looks amazing , sounds amazing. If I have so much money I will buy this BMW. Great work Mat.
Well done Mat!! We're proud of you and always behind you ❤
The thing that I like is an average guy takes on a pretty complex and daunting task that others would not try and succeeds. None of this stuff is easy.
Without realising it though you raise the issues of consumers rights to repair. Manufacturers are trying to stop anyone other than themselves from repairing a huge range of consumer goods. Plus the issue of planned obsolescence is costing us in money as well as resources. So what Matt is doing is great for our planet
this is awesome. wondering what’s coming next since the GT3 and M5 are finished
Probably that white Huracan from a month or two ago
He's actually got both the Murcielago and that secret white Huracan he showed us a few videos ago
Usually all you need to look for are the emission stickers under the hood, or the GVWR sticker or the Tire Size sticker that most likely in the driver's door jamb most often. Anyone who spends any amount of time with the average vehicle off the street can spot differences that indicate crash damage repair. It can be shocking how many vehicles going down the road have been in a collision. You did a fantastic job Mat.
Love your videos @Mat. Keep making this content. Love from India.
I'm again really surprised with how much information Rich can share with us. Car people are the nicest kind of people I guess! Great video as always Matt! I loved the drive-by shot 😍
I’ve been so reluctant to go into a BMW dealership, but after seeing how straightforward their computer is and how willing the technician is to teach the owner, I had to schedule an inspection.
Fair warning. As the owner is of a G31 540d. Your milage may vary. Ive been treated like a king at one dealership and like a peasant at another
Makes you feel good when you can do that much work to a car and the dealership gives you a high score. Good job Mat.
funny thing about tunes, the dealerships can say that it'll void out the warranties because of an aftermarket tune / map BUT they can also be an authorized dealer for tunes/maps and having them install it WONT void the warranties.
If that was the actual video of the crash, I'm not sure how that engine wasn't destroyed. I smell BS
Its german cars mate the Skelett of the car is Real strong
Dealership inspection videos are always my favorite
Remember To Pray Before Eating And Drinking. Spread The Gospel.
Amen
Amen, I don’t do the first half sadly tho… 😭 should work on that :/
I shit my pants
im not sure this is the right Place
Explode.
Awesome video. Having the extra keys is always great. So surprising the little plastic tab fixed the issue 😲
Whenever a youtuber advertises a product...I make a mental note NEVER to buy it.
Just the fact that porsche and BMW will go on video and help knowing its a damaged repaired vehicle blows my mind. Not sure how you pulled this off but it's genius...
BMW has a tsb about finding a tube and notifying BMW. The BMW tech is very professional. Top notch guy. Need more people like that.
You got a score of 8 from both dears ,your doing great. It is nearly impossible for a perfect score for a car that was never wreaked. And you fixed them with no professional experience prior .damn you knocked it out of the park yet again killer job with gumball as well. I was hoping you would have been in it longer . Maybe next time
I had a one year delay in progress on a vintage snowmobile. Ended up being thick shrink wrap that impeded the movement of a point movement on a points and condenser system. Everything was right besides that one little thing. Keep up the high quality video as well as resurrections.
Great team Matt, Hanna , Tony dad , Chris , Liam and little Kev Bully XXL on guard 👍🏻👏🏻🇬🇧
Amazing work once again Matt. From BMX to BMW to Porsche GT3 to Lamborghini. Legend!
@14:04 Yes they are "strengthening points" but that is only for CAD when you remove material to make it light weight and cost saving, when you add a weld you're adding a lot more material back, means you don't need them. They are actually called structural infill pattern. Though I'd probably still replace it anyway.
I’ve notice you seem to bring out the happy side of everyone u meet,,,, that bmw technician was looking really miserable until you worked your magic,,, in the end he was giggling like your dad😄😄👍
Mat, you need to go see Misha at the ring for a few laps. That would be awesome all around for everyone🎉
Big up Sytner BMW really liked the engagement and enthusiasm for Mats great work. Nice to see dealers like this. (Yes I know they get paid for the work).
I really like Matts videos but I think this M5 is technically the most challenging and advanced repair he's ever done and I'm really impressed that he's done the repair correctly and with no issues even after taking it to BMW, fair play well done, look forward to more videos in future
Bravo Mat! You are a legend in the making.
It's great to see BMW being so open, honest, and engaged with you.
Keep up the good work. Brilliant.
They know their job at the dealership. Love to see that
Props to Sytner for the access and getting such a nice tech on the m5. Love the mods and I'm a 42yo boring engineer, car looks mean AF. Gone shocks are a great excuse to fit some shortened bilsteins, maybe magnatronics? Hate the fact bmw GPS track you, i'd rip that out straight away. keep it up buddy!
Kudos to this community for pointing out the missing clip required for fixing the airbag problem.
Loving all these videos Matt- need to do a UK Porsche soon pls
This is great advertisement for BMW (Leicester)! Very impressive mechanic, he really knew what he was looking at. All the staff seemed very helpful all around!
It's actually really cool to see the professionals dishing out their knowledge on these little things, like the structural strengthening points and the torquing procedure.
But now, enough slacking off with these 8/10s Mat, next time you're going to have aim for a 10/10 from the dealer!
Maybe with the Lambo... 🤣
I think there should be a shout out to BMW, they could have hidden away and refused to get involved, but it’s great to see that they are honest and open with their customers. And another example that manufacturers are looking out for modified cars and that’s fair as why should they pick up the cost of your risk.
Another great end to a great project. Well done Matt, on to the next one.
Fair play, those BMW techs are high calibre, and they gave the m5 a good workover. Good to see the remap exposure too. Keep on going matt these rebuilds are awesome
Fair play to BMW for letting you film in their workshop. It's great they recognise that is better for their brand than fobbing you off. And congrats on the 8/10 - that strut tower replacement was no joke!
Matt you're an absolute G! as someone who has own 2 BMW 5 series this build has been one of my favourites, the access and support BMW has given you is awesome! deep down those mechanics wish they has your dedication in doing these build.. well done mate.
Future advice, if you apply seam sealer on something, if you take dish soap like dawn and put a good amount on your fingers you can touch it and make it cleaner and straight and the sealer won’t stick on your finger. 👍🏼
Fascinating content. Loads of lessons in there we all can learn from. 8/10 from a main dealer on something like this is phenomenal. Plus most of the points to address are minor, and no major issues. Superb result!
The BMW tech is a legend, reminds me of Mat's dad, just a well of car knowledge.
The M5 looks great, and those wheels are not bad either!
I had wasted about 2 weeks trying to solve 8 Error codes on my BMW, my AC/Fans were not working at all, I took it to 2 specialists and they had no clue, then I remember I changed the climate control panel and it looked like one of the clips wasn't properly connected. Delicate things.
It's great to see how friendly and forthcomming the pro's at BMW were about the whole thing :D
You could tell Matt was super stoked to get another 8/10 after all of his hard work. Great job!
4:40 what a transition!!!
knowing the nuances of a specific vehicle is invaluable. the rear pan is a perfect example of this. could easily spend a bunch of time and also part with money on parts only for it to be a few bolts. imagine how much money is wasted on suspension components and labour etc. just because a few bolts aren't torqued correctly.
Mat you should be very proud. Getting a 8 out of 10 on both cars is great. I am sure many "Professionals" can't that.
Never been a huge fan of BMWs, but this series and that car has absolutely converted me. It looks stunning!
Mat is so humble and love the genuineness and curiosity from the brand legit mechanic. 2x 8/10 is a winner for sure🎉🎉
Dude you go through so much effort.
Well done, you deserve everything you’ve got .
One thing I will say when you’ve got engine stripped down and cables hanging about them, I think every item should be cleaned properly .
The housing that it’s sits in.
Up-and-down inside and out .
I will give you a 9 out of 10 well done
Found this series and got glued to the end! Awesome!!!
Nice to see these main dealers giving Matt the respect he deserves.
Kudos to Rich / Synter group for their openness and pragmatism…. And MA too for rescuing an awesome ride
Seeing this video and the really good engagement from bmw makes me want you to repair a crash damaged Volvo and take it to them for inspection.
8/10 is a higher rating than professional shops that have repaired my cars would deserve. These dealers would be smart to offer you a job running their service department.
I remember in the late 60s Frank Sytner had his showroom on Mapperley Top, I used to take a look now and then to see what cars he had in. Its certainly grown from that small showroom, i believe an American racing driver bought him out, probably changed ownership a few times but kept the name.
as a American i find funny how british people speak there, and takes me a bit to understand but I still get everything lol like I have process the information you guys are saying xd love it
Just started watching your channel, amazing! Live not far from Mallory. Rear shock went because you took a blowtorch to it to get the spring seat off.👍💙
