    The INFAMOUS PARACHROMIS DOVII! The TRUTH!
    For years , I’ve owned these fish and for years I’ve heard the stories! The Parachromis Dovii is super aggressive! Can’t be housed with other fish! He’s going to kill all the other fish in the tank! Well today, I wanted to talk a little about MY experience with the Parachromis Dovii and how I go about keeping these predatory fish. The Parachromis Dovii is a remarkable fish and have been my favorite for the past 10yrs. I’ve kept them for the better part of those 10yrs, so I will share some tips with you all. Thank you so much for watching! All I ask of you all is to experience this hobby for yourself, learn and make your own mistakes. Don’t be so quick to judge and have a wonderful time enjoying this hobby!

    I like you’re way of thinking. Always learn for yourself. I’ve kept some cichlids that I heard were very aggressive and they were just timid. The only truly aggressive fish I’ve kept was a flowerhorn, which I find odd you mention as though they’re rarely aggressive. He would charge the glass to get me. Any maintenance inside the tank was a sure Vite to my hand. No other living thing could be in his tank. Only the JD comes second in my experience. I had a huge Carpintis that was not aggressive as I heard. Also a midas that wasn’t what I was expecting and two vieja.

    • @TheFishCorner
      @TheFishCorner  2 года назад

      Thank you. I appreciate your feedback and support. Definitely have to learn for yourself. As for the Flowerhorn, I’ve kept large ones in community tanks but I did have one that got killed by all the other fish while I was at work. They’re aggressive but can’t really hold their own with some really aggressive fish. It’s always important to have the right selection of fish with them. Similar temperament is imperative.

    Give it six months till he’s 2x bigger then any fish in there mate, Smartest fish iv ever kept! They will study each fish one by one and take them out. Maybe not all at once, but he will eventually the more confidence he gains in the tank the more of a bellend he will be🤣

      What’s up bro, thank you for your feedback! Idk if he’ll make that transition in 6 months. He’s almost 2 yrs old. Right now the Buttikoferi is running the tank..... He’s one mean fish.....
      I really want this DOVII to reach his full potential in size BUT I also want to try to keep him in a community setting. I’ve never had an 18 or 27in Dovii but if it comes a time to separate him from the rest of the fish due to aggression, I will.
      Right now, he’s definitely not aggressive towards ANY other fish. I’m putting them in the 240 today. So I’ll see what changes once he gets more space.

      @TheFishCorner  Год назад +1

      Good question, you can keep Dovii however you like, as long as the fish has what it needs to stay healthy and happy the duration of its life. I think it’s all based on the fish keeper.
      As for myself, I prefer to see my fish healthy happy and interacting with their scape. Besides, all the decor adds to a balanced aquarium since beneficial bacteria can colonize all over the sand and decor.
      But to better answer your question, you sure can leave the tank bare.

    All I can say is good luck with it the wilder the more aggressive a dovi is , I had a 4 inch dovi and I tanked I with 5 red bellied piranhas watched them for about 5 hours straight after inclamateing him to the tank and they were fine with each other made dinner fed my children 3 kids got them off to bed checked them out and they were fine left tank light on so their was no real change and turned out the room lights and 6 hrs later the piranhas had their eyes and stomachs destroyed and as he got older a person passing by the tank he would strike at them he was by far the most aggressive fish I have ever owned and seen ! Very beautiful but so mean , I could hand feed him and even put my hand in with him and even pet him but anyone else he would take a literal chunk out of them !

    • @brianashley4612

      I think if you start them from Frye on pellets it may curb their aggressive tendency's but they are very temperamental if the tank is big enough that they can have their own space they should be fine with other highly aggressive fish but if they disturb his space their as good as gone !

    • @TheFishCorner
      @TheFishCorner  3 года назад

      Whatever happened, that was your tank. Every fish isn’t the same. I’ve had my Dovii female in a community tank for over 3yrs. The male for almost 2yrs. My stocking is A1. The Buttikoferi is a beast. My Red Atabapo Pike is a beast. The African knife a beast. Then I have 3 Midas Cichlids. The aggressive is dispersed and the Dovii is not boss of this tank. Piranhas are not aggressive unless in a school. They are opportunistic. One cichlid vs one piranha... the cichlid will destroy the piranha. Sorry mate but you had a terrible choice of stocking. You shouldn’t have been surprised by the outcome. I’ve been keeping Dovii in community tanks for 10yrs. They have never killed all the tank mates. But you don’t know until you know. 🤷🏾‍♂️

That piranha is clearly one bad a$$ fish.
      My Favorite fish ever is the Dovii. I wouldn’t let any of my other fish kill him, on the same token, I would let him kill the other fish. When I had them in the 125 I had to find different ways to stop aggression but now, everyone is good.

    Beautiful Dovii my man! I also keep my Dovii with other large cichlids in a 450g tank. However, my Dovii would not put up with anything from a Red Devil Cichlid of the same size. You can't generalize the behavior of these guys, because each one has its own character. I think if the aquarium is big enough you can keep a Dovii with others without any problems. I am currently building a 2000g tank where all my fish will move in 6 weeks. This should be enough space to avoid fights.
    My Dovii is only particularly aggressive when he got fry or right after water changes as you can see in my video 👉 ruclips.net/video/klICHIzhA6g/видео.html

      Hey brother, thank you for commenting. I definitely understand your perspective. And you have about twice the experience with these beasts that I do. When I started keeping Dovii and did a lot of research and as you already know, it’s not advised to keep Dovii with other fish due to their very aggressive nature.... Maybe when my Dovii grows to about 12in or bigger there will be a change in his personality. And if that happens trust and believe I will move him to his own tank. I never said I wouldn’t, I’m not into letting my fish just kill each other. You know? I’m just trying to do things my way, as we all are in this hobby. I’ve been keeping these fish for 10 years and I’ve always kept them with other fish. Now granted, I’ve never had a 12in plus Dovii. So as you stated, time tells all. But I’ve already had these current Dovii for 3 yrs and they’ve been with other fish the whole time. So I’m at least enjoying the community setup with my Dovii thus far. If anything changes, I’ll deal with correctly and accordingly.
