    I would like to see a comparison of this Nissan, sorry Mercedes-Benz X with a NISSAN Navara ...

    I am concerned the cost of brakes pads, rotors, routine and unexpected repairs that are fairly affordable to do on the other vehicles you mentioned will cost...what...5 times more to do on a Merc? Not sure if that makes it so desirable as an off-road vehicle given the abuse it is likely to endure. Maybe things are different in your neck of the woods, cost-wise? That being said, if you have the cash to buy a Merc to use as a utility vehicle, then you probably have the cash to maintain it. I do enjoy the fact that the truck market is producing more off-road capable options, and that we may be heading to more and more diesel options finally here in the States as well.

    Everytime I look at clips posted by this channel I fail to see the "4x4" side of it.

    • @4X4Australia
      @4X4Australia  6 лет назад

      Hi Vuyo,
      Both the Mercs we took to the Outback were 4x4, not 4x2. As Matt mentions in the video, some of those roads we travelled were pretty damn harsh - rocky and rutted - tracks that tear the hell out of your tyres and beat the crap out of the suspension.
      Cheers

    Don't buy it. We were sick of Navaras having issues at my old diesel shop. Really bad engineering and build.
    Mercedes have only made it worse with their record for computers controlling everything and excessive parts and repair costs.
    Just the last generation we were seeing engines mounted so far back they would bash the firewall while running rough for well...Nissan reasons.
    Cracked chassis, cracked tray mounts.
    In this day and age you should expect a manufacturer to know what they are building and how to build it.

      outwestlawns You wonder how Nissan got it so wrong, they built GQ Patrols which were great, then the GU which I believe was a lesser vehicle having seen blistered dash pads and stories of melted pistons whilst working in Weipa.
      I feel like we're entering a lemon age, a time where engineering is taking a back seat for profit - I really miss older 4x4's, I'd kill for a new 60 Series Cruiser with a 2H turbo ☺

    • @OFFICIAL_VIDEO_AWARDS
      @OFFICIAL_VIDEO_AWARDS 6 лет назад

      C A R f a c t s agree. The GQ, as well as that eras Nissan cars, Skylines, Cefiros, Laurels, 180SX, 240SX, 300ZX, Silvia's, Puslars...
      Every man and his dog had a dream Nissan. They were dominating sales, performance and Motorsport.
      Then they started coming out with complete garbage.
      I reckon Toyotas had a better build quality regarding the GQ vs 80 Series. I choose the 80 since it had a factory turbo, better interior and no rattles or squeaks.
      I really wanted the new Ranger Raptor but like you said... Lemon age. It has a sealed no maintenance belt in oil timing belt (an actual belt) they expect to last forever.
      A belt in oil, belt driven oil pump.
      Any failure, buy a new engine. You can't even access it to replace without stripping the motor.
      When I heard they have a sealed head, it's just one big piece. No access to camshafts etc and that head has a built in EGR system which when blocked you'll need to buy a new head. Nope. Ill buy a wildtrak.

      outwestlawns The whole sealed anything is a nightmare, my own mechanic often tells owners of European cars that their gearbox is shot and can't be repaired, they ask what a new one costs then faint when he drops a 10k solution.
      Another mechanic I know recently had to pull a faulty headlight out of another Euro seden, it took him 5hrs to get to it.
      I'm personally now sticking to older vehicles (Toyota's) as I know they're fixable if they do break while not breaking the bank.

    Our 1993 Toyota Raider 2.4SRX Single cab long wheel base 4x2 can survive those roads and it has 486 344 km on the clock. That test was nothing but a waste of fuel.

    Renault-sourced engine? They couldn't throw a Mercedes-made diesel in these pickups??

    • @KHGuitarFreak1988
      @KHGuitarFreak1988 6 лет назад +1

      Because Mercedes Benz AFAIK don't make their own small diesel engines. Even the small displacement diesel engines in the A, B, and C Classes use Renault sourced diesel engine

      Hiluxtaco The upcoming X350d will have a Mercedes-sourced V6 diesel engine. The X350d will outsell this 3 to 1.

    The Nissan, sorry Merc will most likely appeal to hardcore offroaders who will fit accessories like ski and bicycle racks - these vehicles will be sighted 'offroading' around equestrian centres and ski resorts with drivers sporting cashmere cardigans and Ralph Lauren polo tops.
    It's basically a ute for wankers.

    • @michael9678727
      @michael9678727 6 лет назад

      ute for wankers? just because its a merc?

    • @larrikinaxe3424
      @larrikinaxe3424 6 лет назад +1

      michael9678727 No, because it's a Nissan with a Mercedes badge.
      Mercedes Benz have been asleep at the wheel for decades, shit heap C Class cars making into top 20 most unreliable, shocking Dual clutch transmissions and horrendously overpriced parts and service.
      You wouldn't have to be a wanker to purchase the Nissan above, you'd be a wanker to purchase any new Mercedes built after the 90's

    • @michael9678727
      @michael9678727 6 лет назад +1

      Robin Banks it's not that simple. It wider and larger wheel track, it maybe based off the nissan platform but that's it. So not just a nissan with merc badging.
      Still don't understand how it's for wankers. You just went off about how unreliable the mercs are. But that's typical of people who don't actually own one.
      I own two jeeps and has zero issues, best cars I've ever owned. People bag out jeeps but those people never owned one.

    • @larrikinaxe3424
      @larrikinaxe3424 6 лет назад

      michael9678727 I've owned a 1965 Mercedes 220S and a 97 TJ Wrangler - the Jeep was a nightmare, I was lucky to have written it off in the Vic High Country, as for the Benz, well that had been in the family from new and was a real Merc.

    • @michael9678727
      @michael9678727 6 лет назад

      Robin Banks so I own two a 2014 Grand Cherokee which I take off road and a 2016 Rubicon wrangler.
      Never missed a beat.
      So because you had one jeep does that mean they are all a nightmare?
      but I own two and are fantastic....

    So you did 5,000km in a brand new car on a major dirt road. What were you hoping to achieve by this? Any modern car (let alone Ute) could do that without fault. Try harder next time or don’t bother.
