Only the chassis is Nissan (which isn't a bad thing), most of the rest is Mercedes. Maybe you shouldn't get more educated before talking
Meanwhile Toyota Hilux is offered with a 275hp V6 , TRD off road package and much more reliability for 10k less .. i think i know which one would i pick ..

It’s like with the new f 150, mostly upper class people who just want to have a truck for the sake of it, but of course never take it off-road.

I like how they are so disgusted by the idea of Merc making a utility vehicle, like, come on guys, the G Wagon as been used as a work truck for years, the Vito and Sprinter vans, the Unimog, infact, Mercedes is also a truck company. Them making a one-tonner seems perfectly logical to me

I have owned mine for nearly 4 years now. Have around 80K kms on the odometer. I have used it as a trailer towing vehicle, loaded it with sand/dirt/bricks in the tray and also used it as a family lifestyle vehicle including thrashing it off-road. It is not a Nissan Navara at all given I tried both before settling for this vehicle. It was a unique offering and sad to see it a commercial hiccup for Mercedes Benz. The vehicle is 50mm wider and has 4 disc brakes and has all the tech you need for safe off road and towing. I do a lot of kms on highways too and the car is still a very competitive offering in the market in 2024 against Rangers and Hilux and what nots.
That Bothers me ...! Hey Mercedes Build your own Dam Truck! You built the G wagon and the 6x6 so figure it out...!

Nearly $55K for what’s basically a midsize diesel Nissan truck? You can get a fully loaded, 5.7L V8 top tier Ram 1500 Longhorn here in the states for the same price.
Cant wait to see a 4.0Tdi Amarok. Correction @Vicki. Lincoln and Cadillac have both built pickups. Very pleased to see Vicki smiling and laughing while off roading. I can remember when it made her cry.
They didn't sell the Lincoln or Cadillac pickups in Europe, though. I doubt they even know those trucks existed.

Sat in one of these the other day for the first time. Quality was nothing flash. Especially given the price. Went and checked out the Navara afterwards. Sure the navara isn’t really any better in terms of quality but you can forgive it seeming it’s much cheaper.
I know what I’ll be buying now!
What was the best car in team test?
Not exactly the first time a premium manufacturer has made a pickup, Lincoln had the Blackwood and the Mark LT (both just rebadged F-150s) and Cadillac had the Escalade EXT (which was really just a fancy Avalanche). But I don't think those were available in Europe.
mmarocker Yeah. Plus they were based on the SUVs, not the trucks. Those SUVs were in turn based on the trucks, but that’s kind of like translating American English to French back to Aussie English. Not sure anyone did any real work with those warmed over Navigators and Tahoes.
The Avalanche here was a rebadged Holden
The F-150 and the Avalanche are full size pickup truck. A different spectrum of the market.
Lincoln and Cadillac are not exactly premium luxury manufacturers. Definitely not at the same level as Mercedes. Also they aren't available everywhere.
@@longtailgt The nicer Cadillacs/Lincolns these days are more "premium" than something like the X Class, which is probably why Merc doesn't sell it here. It's a small truck based on a Nissan with diesel engines. It's just not "luxury" enough for Mercedes USA's marketing strategy.

Why have this over an Amarok? The Amarok is cheaper, bigger and more powerful and in my opinion better looking, this is far too fancy and posh to be a true pick up and on the Grand Tour the load bay bent! No thanks Mercedes, you can keep your 40 thousand pound Navara, I’ll take an Amarok and a 2 week holiday to somewhere nice and warm 👍

Anyone who buys this won't use it as a working vehicle - it will appeal to the same type of buyer that buys luxury 4x4s to collect their kids from school. Practicality has no meaning to the image conscious.

Actually Mercedes-Benz makes the largest pickups in the world called Unimog. So it's not that strange they have a lighter pickup.
With today's transmissions, the show should upgrade to 8th or 10th gear lol

Eyy another subi Outback owner hahha, they are the best, i take mine to the beach in deep deep sand and go 70kmh no problem haha. Literally taking it to thr Outback and it does wonders😃 rallying the shit out of mine aswell hehe, what they did is soft roading thats true haha

They put the same logo on vans, have a modified Nissan picknup truck and use Renault engines for some of their cars. So Mercedes is less premium than you think.
Mercedes are ripoff merchants, any of their vehicles under £30k consist of cheap parts sourced from elsewhere.
They charge well over In excess of £50k, for a car properly manufactured Mercedes car, using all their own designed parts/ engines.
People used to say all these things about SUVs, now AMG's best seller is a G-class.

Welcome Europe to the pickup truck, you’ll be surprised just how handy they really are. May I suggest F150, Silverado or RAM though! Not these toy trucks, I did for years own a Tacoma, no comparison between these lil trucks and the real thing!
They are different spectrum of the market. One is a full size and the other a mid size for another market. In my house there is a F-150 and a X-class, and both are good. Sometimes I prefer to drive the MB, and others the Ford.
Well, in Sweden, pickups have been popular for a long time though. I guess that's because we have a bit larger roads and more nature than down in mainland Europe.
The most popular pickups are Hilux, Amarok and the one from Mitsubishi (can't remember the name right now)...

One of the first fifth gear reviews I have watched and it was pointless. Too short so not enough information and driving on road, where this car will be most of the time.
I'm not upset of the idea of a Mercedes pick up, but the fact is a Nissan Navara which means is also a Renault Alaskan.

It's NOT even a Mercedes company, as Nissan is it's own entity? At the end of the day, it's a re-badged Nissan Navara, and there are better trucks out there? Not what I would buy if I were in the market for such a vehicle, and I have owned several REAL Mercedes Benz cars.

They should've based this on the old G-wagen instead of a Nissan. It would've looked better, be cheaper and been a proper Mercedes. I'm not saying I don't like the X-class but I don't think I'd buy one. Not at that price.
X class failed here in Australia. No longer exists here.
Or just buy a merc that's a few years old for fun and luxury and a van or truck for work like every other tradesman.

They're freaking out about the bed but haven't realised that like 90% of tradies use utes here.
Remember this is a British show. Pickups (or utes) are relatively rare here. You only really see them on farms or being hooned around by middle-aged lunatics with anger issues. The vast majority of traders and businesses use vans instead.
