Putting some serious thought into the X class, currently I have the MN triton which is starting to show its age. For standard features it beats the rivals.
the 190kw version might be the ticket. But i reckon a few years down the track once Merc refines it, it will be the best Ute on the market. I reckon the badge will sell a lot of them regardless.
For it to truly stand out as a premium ute , I expect plush comfortable leather seats above and beyond a navara. At the end of the day , if you asked the average tradesman what they would expect from a premium ute , comfort , without doubt would be there first response.
While this Mercedes is interesting to look at I can’t see how a refreshed front and rear together with a better dash board is worth 20k more than the Nissan it shares its driveline with? Expensive w-k factor?
Audi and BMW don't have a commercial range like Mercedes so it's highly unlikely they will follow. The Amarok is a far better choice of vehicle if you want a premium ute
From what I’ve seen Audi has a Ute in the pipeline, and BMW’s concept Ute might now get some genuine effort in making it to market now that the “other” two are progressing into the Ute segment. It will be interesting to see if Audi uses the Amarok chassis or engineers their own to differentiate it.
Is it manufactured in Thailand like the Navara? Also don't they deliberately make the steering slower so you don't get your hands ripped from you while offroading?
If I'm going to buy a ute, I'd go a Falcon ute. Reliable, bigger tray and 6cylinder is the basic standard..... if I want a family life style car. Maybe go a Kluger or Prado?
I prefer to make an informed statement that's why I do the research. For your information the complete body is different the 2 vehicles do not share one panel, the suspension is different with the track being 80mm wider, the chassis has been strengthened in many places. I have driven both and while performance is obviously similar the handling and ride of the MB is quite superior. But don't take my word for it go try one yourself.
I don’t like the look of the front grill and how the bonnet slopes towards the grill but otherwise this Ute seems ok, safety wise it’s great to see improvements but otherwise I prefer the designs of several of its competitors.
I think these x class will only be available for a limited time. They will not get the sales they think, at least not in Australia. And the service costs? Too bad they didn’t put a thumping twin turbo diesel V8 in there to make it stand out from the boring Ute crowd.
This is not a true and pure Mercedes. The rear is hideous, and they didn't do a great job in separating it from the Nissan Navara. I would have preferred if Mercedes built an American-style and pure Mercedes truck that competes with the GMC Sierra for example rather than this ugly disproportionate narrow ute.
I thought they would make a Ute out of the G-Class. Instead, they brought us THIS with a sticker price close to a Land Rover Discovery Sport. Well... some people would buy it; so... let it be.
agree, i would prefer if they make "the real luxurious d-cab" by using the GLS instead of rebadging a cheap nissan d-cab (navara is good d-cab but it's nowhere up to premium german brand standard)
Grant Parker the one you are talking about is not a ute, it is rather a 6 wheeler which targets a very small niche market unlike a regular ute or a pickup.
Ya it’s super small. I think they would have been better with a size slotted between the Toyota Tundra and Toyota Tacoma. To compete with the Sierra, Silverado, Tundra, Tacoma, F150, etc.
Grant Parker yes that is an old ute and not on sale now... that one too looked ugly compared to the G-class SUV. Mercedes needsa proper luxurious ute or truck that goes by its name.
It is a big improvement over the Navara in the Interior and suspension but isn't worth paying $20 000 extra for. Ford Ranger would still be the best pick for this ute segment.
Rhys Humfrey Plenty more Utes on the market that are just a capable as the ranger and come at a cheaper price and do the exact same job what a Ute’s main purpose is, being a work horse , not trying to be a suv with a trailer taced on behind.
Dra Tempest give me some examples. The Hilux workmate is an example of what you seem to be thinking about, cheap and achieves a utes purpose of being able to carry stuff in the tray. It is only the Wildtrak and XLT Rangers that focus on comfort and towing capacity. There are still much cheaper variants of the Ranger that are very capable of achieving a utes main purpose and compare to the Hilux workmate for price and features. This is why the Ranger still remains the most popular pick out of this segment. For its safety and capabilities to be a workhorse but also have a good towing capacity for if you want to go away. I challenge you to find a ute that beats the Ranger. In towing capacity, features and price range and the ability to be a tough ute to be used as a workhorse.
The Isuzu Dmax for one, the Mazda BT50, Holden Colorado these all match the Rangers abilities, and come 5-10k cheaper, but then again Utes or pick up prices are way to dear to start with.
There is so much misinformation about this ute... It's not even funny... The platform is being borrow from Nissan so it has done the same thing with Renault and their ute Alaskan. Ute is being built in a plant in Spain (not Thailand) for the Europe, Asia (Australia) Market... And in Argentina for the American market. This is a proper Mercedes ute... People are talking a lot about the difference between or the lack off... first the price... (definitely not 20k like someone said). Just in case you didn't know Navara ute is not cheap.
The rest is all Nissan?... well let see.... Chasis has being reinforce to accommodate for the V6 engine later this year... Body panels have being redesign to fit on the wider body almost all of them... wider between tracks by 72mm, and longer, other benefits apart from better handling wider tray to fit pallet between rear wheel arches, rear suspension has being tune to spring at the back stiffer to improved when towing... Safety features brake assistance and AEB non other ute has...
And yet not worth $20,000 extra. Amarok has already said their v6 will now make 200kw. Their Amarok gen 2 in 2020 will leap frog the Merc. Same with the ranger. Mercedes should have done it properly and started from scratch.
Mercedes has confirmed the V6 will produce 190kW and 550Nm in the X350d, giving it best-in-class power - 25kW more than the current Amarok diesel six, though torque is identical. We'll see when VW confirms theirs... Wait and see...
Outside of America these vehicles or utes are smaller compared to average American pickup These utilities marketed towards the Asian Australian and any country besides America So its just a cheap makeover by Mercedes on a Nissan Navara and as the commentator said expect a premium price$$$$ and some of these utes are built in Thailand
They have misjudged the market. They have made a ute thats an all rounder. They need to make the x class to utes what the 180/190e was to compact affordable sedans. Bullet proof, above its class, quality interior, better ride and deiving experience, better features and for a a small amount more. Mercedes needs to look at using tech they've invented on the unimog and g class to make installing accessories simplar and perhaps making their own accessories too.
It was a volume car seller since the introduction of the C-class decades ago, even more so today with the A and B-class. I have no idea why you thought they weren’t one already. Not to mention their Sprinter and Vito vans
I don't think it's 'premium' enough, in my view. Mercedes-Benz missed a trick here - that interior, even in the top spec model, is too austere for my liking. If the all-new G-class can be had with nappa leather interior, dual 12 inch screens, ambient lighting and woodgrain, why not the X-class?
Barry Kilkelly i haven't got chance to feel the Raptor which available in other country.. I saw 2 RUclipsrs purchased the Raptor and shared on RUclips.. Damn nice.. #Autovlog #Solomondrin
Have fun with your disposable 2.0l engine with sealed belt in oil timing belt and belt driven oil pump as well as a sealed internal EGR. If she snaps a belt, buy a new block. EGR blocked in 3 years, buy a new engine. Want to tow something decent? It will be scraping its arse at its max 2500kg. Want to carry anything? Better be under 700kg. Want to drive really fast on private property in California and not carry any weight in the tray, excellent vehicle choice.
Henry Williams old design based on what? , and the ranger is a way better ute because of what ?it sales in large numbers , that’s no recommendation , so the VW beetle ! All the Utes in todays market fulfil there purpose , tow and carry a load and transport people, despite what ute you wish to drive and how mush you wish to be fleeced on the price for the same thing that the cheapest of the 8 Utes on sale today can do.
It's basically a bogan from Dubbo that's put in a ballroom gown, has plenty of makeup and had its snatch groomed. When the morning comes and it shits itself, its still a Navara that was horrible to begin with but now has a higher price tag and unreliable Mercedes computers. Worse still, every time someone pulls up to the traffic lights in this ... You just know everyone thinks your a muppet. Good for Europe though, would look suited to a middle aged guy in Monaco in a $5000 suit.
Well those rear lights are pretty ripped off the Navara. And now that i know it's a german navara, well not so new or defining moment in the history of vehicle manufacturer. And btw, the new A class shares its platform with other nissan /Infini models
why would anyone in their right mind choose this over it's cheaper and more reiable competitors? most people who buy pickups r contractors or builders or something along those lines. pickups are workhorses and somehow i dont think this car will be up for the challenge.
So, benz is unable to make their own ute, so they are selling you a Nissan with Mercedes badge? 😂😂😂 If I was in the market, I would never buy it for that reason alone ...
the rear end looks like a chinese ute... looks so out of place and the interior is a massive disappointment. would rather not have a ute at all than having to buy the X-class. i think the amarok is a better ute. though i would personally buy a hilux or a colorado.
All that research and development, wondering where passenger can put there coffee. Only room for one? Another dumbass design. If they can’t get that right what else is stuffed up? My 2012 Nissan D40 550 is way better still waiting to upgrade but no one is building a better Ute than I’m driving. Heaps of storage everywhere and 170kw 550NM.
What chippy, painter, plasterer or lanscaper would put their filthy employees in this? What amount of tools could one carry in this? Is the tradie who buys this expecting to pull a caravan? Is he also needing to go four wheel driving? No way!
I think I'll take a Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Foxton Tunland, LDV T60 or even the Nissan Navara! Those are proper working men's vehicle as you don't time to muck around worrying about luxurious looks while working! If I want a comfortable, luxurious, touring and presentable rural farm vehicle, I might as well just get a Range Rover! Would you like to take the X Class to farm full of Cows' dung? As far as I know a ute is a working men's vehicle that can used on working sites where you don't have time to worry about damages of all sorts!
I wouldn't. I like its road presence, it does look well made but the fact that there's so much Nissan to it would really put me off. Nothing wrong with Nissan, but NOT at the price of a Mercedes. I've owned Nissans and drive a Mercedes now but I'd never pay the price of the latter to get the former. Additionally, I have only just found out that the climate control wasn't redesigned at all. It's things like that, which aren't exactly minor, that detract from what I'm sure is a lovely, albeit overpriced, vehicle.
Lol really compare to the Chevy or ford or Toyota it isn't beating them ... and way more ... maybe people would be better to buy a nissian and put Mercedes badging on it ... there is a difference but not that much
One of, if not the best looking utes out there
Putting some serious thought into the X class, currently I have the MN triton which is starting to show its age. For standard features it beats the rivals.
Will certainly wait for the 3.0L V6, that will be my next car.
the 190kw version might be the ticket. But i reckon a few years down the track once Merc refines it, it will be the best Ute on the market. I reckon the badge will sell a lot of them regardless.
I can't wait for the Mercedes X63 AMG 6X6 😍😁
For it to truly stand out as a premium ute , I expect plush comfortable leather seats above and beyond a navara. At the end of the day , if you asked the average tradesman what they would expect from a premium ute , comfort , without doubt would be there first response.
Steering wheel is from the GLE and GLS, gauges from the C
hilux is the answer as is always been. ppl want relialibility for work cars which can only be found on toyotas
While this Mercedes is interesting to look at I can’t see how a refreshed front and rear together with a better dash board is worth 20k more than the Nissan it shares its driveline with? Expensive w-k factor?
Good job merc......an alternative. ..love to drive one......horses for courses........not a tradies vehicle ....great for families ..
X63 AMG...? LOL
Let’s see if BMW and Audi follow - such a popular segment and certainly has the looks to do well
Audi and BMW don't have a commercial range like Mercedes so it's highly unlikely they will follow.
Considering it’s an “all new Ute” with the 190kw coming, its going to get left behind by the Volkswagen Amarok with an more powerful 200kw v6 coming
Is it manufactured in Thailand like the Navara? Also don't they deliberately make the steering slower so you don't get your hands ripped from you while offroading?
Dual cab Utes are hard to park specially Navara. I would keep my VW T5 which I can park very easily anywhere.
Matt Campbell when did you leave CarAdvice.com
I'd look at it if I could get an X43 to go with our GLC43!
Is it body on frame?
If I'm going to buy a ute, I'd go a Falcon ute. Reliable, bigger tray and 6cylinder is the basic standard..... if I want a family life style car. Maybe go a Kluger or Prado?
Its not a benz tho. Its a dressed up Nissan
Luck Ding Wong go do a bit of research before you comment.
Barry Kilkelly you have too much time if you go n research on a dress up Benz ute.. it's a marketing exercise to get your dollars..
I prefer to make an informed statement that's why I do the research. For your information the complete body is different the 2 vehicles do not share one panel, the suspension is different with the track being 80mm wider, the chassis has been strengthened in many places. Barry Kilkelly you keep telling yourself that ok ... Marketing dollars is working on you
Luck Ding Wong you are probably to young to know the saying “there are none so blind as those that do not see” have a nice life.
prices $45k to $65k AUD, plus built for comfort if you are under 5 foot 8
I hate the back lol I would stay with the ranger
put a nissan navara next to your e class
I don’t like the look of the front grill and how the bonnet slopes towards the grill but otherwise this Ute seems ok, safety wise it’s great to see improvements but otherwise I prefer the designs of several of its competitors.
MaZEEZaM so your a “looks”man ?
wrap up one of the v6 model's darling
Please stick a tape measure between the doors, the cab looks the same size to me
X class never sold in the here(U.S.).
yea for the V6. And V12
V6 yes for sure
Basically it's not an original design. It's a Nevara with bits and peices borrowed from other mercedes products.
I think these x class will only be available for a limited time. They will not get the sales they think, at least not in Australia. And the service costs?
Too bad they didn’t put a thumping twin turbo diesel V8 in there to make it stand out from the boring Ute crowd.
Anyone that turns up onsite with one will cop it.
This is not a true and pure Mercedes. The rear is hideous, and they didn't do a great job in separating it from the Nissan Navara.

It is a big improvement over the Navara in the Interior and suspension but isn't worth paying $20 000 extra for. Ford Ranger would still be the best pick for this ute segment.

People seem to be spending lots of time on facebook and instagram, not hauling stuff. Odd pursuit from luxury brand.
Rowan Gontier not an odd choice when you consider the rate of market growth this sector is enjoying and how it is expected to continue to grow
Barry Kilkelly german car makers are far smarter than me. I support your point; just baffled.
The original ML definitely was not the first ‘Luxury SUV’, that would be a Range Rover, and it was and remains an absolute barking dog of a vehicle.
Opinions are great. Everyone is entitled to one.
CarsGuide undeniably true, it is just that what you stated in your video was factually inaccurate. Have a good day.
He meant from the brand.Think logically!
Nothing about the original Range Rover was luxurious
PlayStation 4 Grandbuffy2 he did not specify as such. Think logically!!
Outside of America these vehicles or utes are smaller compared to average American pickup
These utilities marketed towards the Asian Australian and any country besides America

5:55 " it's a UTE, what more can you expect?"
Mate! it's a Mercedes!!
And so completes Mercedes transition from luxury brand to volume car maker. How the mighty hath fallen !
I know right
Its volume already
Globalization has begun. Don't forget the C200 is made in china.
They've been doing it for a long time .Mercedes make Trucks and school busses. Everyone and their mother owned a Mercedes Kompressor.
It was a volume car seller since the introduction of the C-class decades ago, even more so today with the A and B-class. I have no idea why you thought they weren’t one already. Not to mention their Sprinter and Vito vans
The ultimate cashed up bogans bling car.
Like the new Navara it’t has a bad engine
I would go with the original navara.
No.. No.. No.. I will go for Raptor..
ViNCENiO VL you will be disappointed terrible chassis in comparison to the ride of the MB or the VW.
Barry Kilkelly i haven't got chance to feel the Raptor which available in other country.. I saw 2 RUclipsrs purchased the Raptor and shared on RUclips.. Damn nice..

Umm yeh those youtubers have F150 Raptors, not Ranger Raptors. A fair bit of difference.

I’d consider buying but not without adaptive cruise control. Simple.
Omg... Did you say it has a Codpiece?
😳😳 🤣🤣🤣
"Yes. It looks like a codpiece." Matt Campbell.
What? The driver? Yes...agreed
Ah, its a bloody Navara! A Navara with a new grille and some other minor bits.
So it’s a Nissan Navara with a Nissan gearbox and a Nissan engine and its built by Nissan. Luxury Ute my ass.
John Kear you don’t really know what you’re talking about John, try doing some research
Which bit are you talking about?.
John Kear chassis, suspension, body, glass.
renault engine I believe ,like the navara
I would never buy a luxury ute. They are meant for work and getting things done, and Mercedes should stop trying to make a pickup.
lol you also get famous Mercedes reliability!
4 cylinder yute?
looks like an old design and I think that the ranger is way better ute
Henry Williams old design based on what? , and the ranger is a way better ute because of what ?it sales in large numbers , that’s no recommendation , so the VW beetle ! All the Utes in todays market fulfil there purpose , tow and carry a load and transport people, despite what ute you wish to drive and how mush you wish to be fleeced on the price for the same thing that the cheapest of the 8 Utes on sale today can do.

Good for Europe though, would look suited to a middle aged guy in Monaco in a $5000 suit.
Lipstick on a pig 💄 🐖
Well those rear lights are pretty ripped off the Navara.
And now that i know it's a german navara, well not so new or defining moment in the history of vehicle manufacturer.
And btw, the new A class shares its platform with other nissan /Infini models

Looks more like a Ford ranger with Mercedes accessories fitted, and navara inside 😂
Nice Nissan mate. 😁
Nissan Navara with a Renault master engine.
Answer: NO !!!!
Very pretty, over-priced, fancy and expensive Datsun!
no
so basically its just a glorified Navara
Ford Ranger for me thanks
I’d probably buy a GLE250 and a trailer instead.
you're just buying a badger nothing original
Its a rebadged Nissan, this car shows you which car guides are glorified adverts.
Mutten dressed up as lamb
Not bad, tumbs up Nissan, oh I should say Mercedes
Waiting for a BMW and Toyota collaboration on a similar vehicle if this works out.
The Backis waaaaaayyyy toooooo UGLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Everything else I can deal with but the back end is a deal breaker! Hilux or Amarok
Interesting but it only designed to to one thing.
Separate rich people from their money.
The ML was not the first luxury SUV. That title belongs to the Lexus RX. The RX created that market.
Had to stop watching after 20 secs , what a load of rubbish in such a short time..
Mercedes should pick isuzu for diesel engines isuzu are the best
Let's get one thing straight. This isn't a ute. Utes and pickup trucks aren't the same thing.
the rear end looks like a chinese ute... looks so out of place and the interior is a massive disappointment. would rather not have a ute at all than having to buy the X-class. i think the amarok is a better ute. though i would personally buy a hilux or a colorado.
A mercedes with a Renault engine!
I’m so over Australia getting these crappy small utes. 550nm haha what a joke, give us an American pickup with 1000nm then I’ll be happy.

Wow....how much corporate whiz can this bloke chow down on? Did they give him one for free?
looks like a nissan
Jamie Sonego it is a Nissan
I wouldn't. I like its road presence, it does look well made but the fact that there's so much Nissan to it would really put me off. Nothing wrong with Nissan, but NOT at the price of a Mercedes. This POS Supposed Top Line is $70,000 good luck mercedes selling a tarted up Navara at that price
Badge engineering! its still a Nissan! and it's a truck! why would you pay 20 grand more for panels and a badge?
Lol really compare to the Chevy or ford or Toyota it isn't beating them ... and way more ... maybe people would be better to buy a nissian and put Mercedes badging on it ... there is a difference but not that much
Ford ranger wildtrak all day long.
Poo cart Navara with a merc price tag.... epic FAIL :)
VW Amarok V6 tdi much better!
Lol Navarra diesels are the worst and dirtiest of all. Paying that much for the worst ute on the market is hilarious.
Badge Engineering thats all. Expected much better from Merc.
Lmfaoooo
