This video is very deceiving because I have been a coin collector for 50 years and have only met a few honest coin shop dealers as most think they need to make %50 and have seen in just the last few years coin shop dealers not look at dates or mint marks on large Morgan dollar collections and there are so many rare ones or Carson City minted dollars that have huge values. I have also purchased several large collections for more than three times what the coin shops had offered. The last one I paid $25,000 and they were only offered $7,000 by the coin shops.

One of the reason I love going to coin dealers (to buy) is because you can get great deals on coins not in that person's specialty. For instance, you heard this guy's mentality regarding foreign. I have made a very good return over the years on five for a dollar buckets of foreign coins where I'd get dollar or half dollar sized silver coins. You can even find good deals on foreign silver they sell at melt. I have yet to not sell anything silver online. I have met dealers who had exonumia (i.e. non-currency coins) and did not know what they had and got em for pennies on the dollar.
Screw coin shops, when I first got into stacking, silver spot was around $17. I attempted buying a current year ASE and he wanted $28 each. Never going back.
Please do not listen to this guy, these people sell at a large premium and buy below spot price. Many coins today have a numismatic value, even the new 2017 coins. This guy wants to pay you 20% below fair value. Sell on eBay, you'll do better than from this guy.

the days of brick and mortar coin shops are gone, the hobby is not that big. you can run a ebay coin shop at home and work a full time job....otherwise go lease commercial property, only open set hours, and only reach people that can drive to you.
it's a simple advertisement for coin stores, which aren't bad because they provide a service. Do you want to investigate whether your coin is worth more than melt value for some reason? ... this takes time. You can get a pretty good idea of how to grade coins online and be decent at it enough to get a rough price of what a coin is worth, it takes time. Any store has to buy at wholesale and sell at retail, does the shop owner drive a wreck, or a nice car ... nice car means you'll get less .... Have you ever watched "Pawn Stars" , well coin shops are like that, where the value of the thing in question can be a matter of opinion. 50 cents on the dollar, or 50% of what they hope to sell the thing for is what YOU will be offered, because of overhead and salaries and yattda yattda yattda ... all legit. Who do you know who will buy your coins, do you want to meet with randoms in hopes of gettng the best profits? Remember that the local police stations generally have "meet up" spots for people doing business on CraigsList or other such, they are all camera'd up and monitored, So that's a way better place than a McDonalds to be meeting a "random" Remember ... Work = Profit ... do the work, make the profit. Let someone else do the work ... pay them to do so. The problem is, like me, you've inherited so much shit from someone, you don't know where to start .... good luck to you, but don't see your stack to the man for 50% .... get learned up !
I never use a local coin shop. APMEX, Provident, Monument, JM, etc. I find the deals MUCH better at the large online dealers. Plus selling to them is easier...in my opinion. He is pumping his biz.

Most of the coin dealers in my town have closed up and gone eBay. So if eBay is full of crooks, what does that tell you?
ebay has a great return policy
The biggest determination of value is supply vs. demand. That's why ancient coins are relatively cheap, because the demand isn't there.
