There actually is theory that Kai didn't turn evil, but Oogway turned good. They were brothers in arms, and Kai had titles like "beast if vengeance" and "maker of widows", those are not titles for a hero.

I personally really like this addition to the series. While yes the humor is more child-like, and at times the animation style more.. cartoon-ish? For lack of a better term? I still see this as a really skillful conclusion. The first movie was about developing physical strength, and in turn regaining some self-esteem, self-confidence and self-respect. And erasing the stigma of a panda others had. The second film was an exploration of the mental, a deep dive into trauma and ptsd. To come out on the other end with an inner peace; a better trained mentality. Then the third movie is about taking the mental, physical, and life lessons, and finding a spiritual sense of purpose.
The three pillars: physical, mental, spiritual.
    Beautiful.

KFP3 is a good movie. But it's on the tail end of two GREAT movies.
I have several nitpicks, but my two biggest complaints are:
    1. Po doesn't get as much time with the Five as he did in the second movie. Maybe 5 minutes total.
    2. The Panda Village feels a bit over-long, like the same gag over-and-over.

Kai is seriously underrated somehow. I just wish they gave him a motivation, because that "he betrayed me" sounds kinda ironic in the movie, because he had no reason to take people's chi. I mean, here's a guy who base level or chi master level is pretty much on the same level as Oogway, showing how both he and Oogway had to resolve to the more complicated moves to stun each other in the first scene. And take a moment to see how he literally just flicks each of the Furious Five away (without chi). If they showed a clearer backstory, he would have been a villain on the level of Tai Lung and Shen.

I think a good option for a fourth would be to have Po learn what it is to be leader of people, like beyond being a teacher, an emperor or something. There'd be some great evil for him to fight of course, but the other parts of the movie could be about him learning to think strategically, when to stand strong or compromise politically, etc... That seems like it could be an appropriate final step of sorts for his character.

I'm so behind on the Kung Fu series but I definitely intend to get to this one. From the highlights, I agree, this doesn't seem as strong as the other two. For me, the villain seems a little weak? I like the humour but at the same time, that made him come across as less threatening? The best part seems to be the panda moments and seeing Po's family/ community. Also, when you were asking what the green monsters were I kept thinking..."Are they made of Jade?" because I know Jade is extremely tough/ somewhat indestructible. Then I googled it and yes I was right! Apparently they're "Jombies" (Jade Zombies) 😂I have an affinity for "minerals" haha. I swear me and Hank could've been besties :)

I think the important things for the villains is simply asking "why is this person evil and why are the seeking power?"
For Tai Lung and Shen? I think we can all answer those easily. Fear, ego, betrayal, pain, revenge, the list goes on. For Kai? I'm not entirely sure why he's doing what he's going. His motivations are much less clear.

The hate is because they had the chance to make it seem like the panda village was this abandoned and forgotten place with wise villagers scarred by the war and destruction Shen caused but just wanted to live peacefully in their own world. Instead they made it look like a village with somewhat of laid back and kinda stupid villagers that all they know is how to have fun in a silly way and forgotten everything about their traditions. And the fact that Po spends the entire movie trying to be like them and teach them made it even worse because it looked like he was missing from all the cool stuff. And if you think I'm overthinking it just compare the final image of KFP2 ,how majestic and mysterious it looks and the end result in KFP3. The best thing about this movie was the villain Kai, honestly.

The fact that Kai already took Tai Lung's chi but didn't use him as a jade warrior while he did use Shifu, shows that there's a chance Kai thinks Tai Lung is stronger than Shifu. Once Kai took someone's chi, not only did he make them as his slaves, but he took their power. And by summoning them as jombies, he would lose a bit portion of power. Maybe by summoning Tai Lung, he would lose alot of those extra strength that were added when he captured Tai Lung. And i'm pretty sure Kai took the Thundering Rhino's chi as well. But we don't see him as a jombie. Maybe he's around Tai Lung's level. Maybe higher, or lower but higher than everyone else.

I like to think that human beings are categorized into two different groups; fools and idiots. Idiots are the people who make the same mistake repeatedly and become worse for not learning to quit whatever endeavor they set for themselves. Meanwhile, fools are people who make mistakes and learn from them, but as they tend to forget these lessons and the universe sets them on the path to relearn these truths of life. Also, sorry for calling certain people idiots; I don’t have an impactful word that would be effective to make them realize their life.

I don't hate this one but I didn't enjoy it and felt like the awesomeness dropped from the stellar KFP2. Be prepared for a Ted talk below. You have been warned lol
With the teaser of Pos dad being some kind of Munk, leader or something to recieve the message of po being alive (now known from Oogway) just to learn, no.
They weren't wise nor were they suffering from any of the terrible past events of what happened in movie 2, but instead, they're all laughs, giggles and nonsensical with practically the same vibe. Don't get me wrong. I don't want anyone to suffer, but it's obvious that that teaser was shifted to make this movie more funny for kids. They even changed the design of the father and the village it seems.
For me, the first had a good balance of kung fu seriousness and jokes. The second, less jokes to hold the serious plot. This one is not serious for no reason but to probably appeal more to kids (I think because of the jokes and tone) and sell toys. Maybe they felt that the second movie was too heavy, idk.
On its own without the others, it's pretty alright. Everyone likes a goofy movie with no serious threats but in line with the trilogy, I can't lie and say that it did anything for me in any sense. To me it paled heavily in comparison.
So, it's not a hate, but its not a like either. I'm....indifferent to this movie.
What I think would've been a better approach is Pos father searching for him and they're too scarred and afraid to face their past and abandoned their ways of healing their essence out of fear of being broken again.
Po, taking what he learned from the second movie, shares his experiences and says that they can get better if they work on it together. So, they overcome their fear while PO teaches them how to live again and defend themselves while Po learns how to be a teacher and learn about a culture that had been missed for a lifetime.
His father is invited to share and learn. Ping, the goose learns about the hurt his family had gone through and makes an effort to be loving, showing them and making noodles for them. He doesn't know what he can do to help by stay by their side and they express gratefulness for it.
Kia can still be a villian that takes Chi or essence from others to try and heal a wound in his heart from the betrayal he felt from Oogway. The panda people offer kindness. He can have theirs but if it didnt work, he would have to release everyone. Just to learn that no matter how much he took, it didn't change anything. He released Po first to ask him why and explain his anger, betrayal and suffering alone and po teaches him how to be brave, recognize mistakes and mend his own heart as well as the heart of others. "All that matters is who you choose to be now" and unlike Shen, he accepts, ashamed but willing to be brave to atone for his mistakes. One healed wound at a time.
Becoming the truly wise, but funny fanboy teacher he could be.
Everyone learns something, whether it be compassion, bravery, learning about diff cultures and how to be empathetic. But maybe that's just me-

I completely agree. This would have been a better direction for the movie. I'd also add that Master Oogway and Kai were partners and if they showed a bit about oogway when he was younger and how he used kung fu for evil until he met the pandas and they taught him how to use kung fu for good. Then it would have been a full circle... from the pandas to oogway back to the pandas through po. Also what you said about Kai learning from po... him being the only villan to recognise this and change seeing how oogway changed and all the po has been through would have been a good conclusive ending. I also expected the pandas would be presented differently especially cause if their history.

Honestly I think Kung Fu Panda 3 is fine. I think the issue people have with it is mostly the fact that Kung Fu Panda 2 set up the third film to be just as epic and serious at times in terms of tone as part 2 was and instead they veered back into Kung Fu Panda 1 territory with comedy being the primary focus which isn’t a bad thing but a big disappointing for some.

Kung Fu Panda 3 was the best movie in 2016. I like how Li Shan found his son Po which is really important and there are pandas out there. Po wants to be with his pandas family and the pandas family are so cute. Kai was the decent villain. I love the Spirit Realm between Po and Kai. I hope the villain gets a redemption in Kung Fu Panda 4 this time.

While Shen is hands down my favorite villain, the third movie is my favorite. I don't see the hate, either. I think all three movies are amazing. There was a short movie that came with the first movie, that delved into the stories of the furious five. Otherwise, I don't really want a fourth movie. I feel the story is fully complete with the three movies.

Storytelling in fiction allows you to do almost anything, but like all system its a system built on rules. Those rules can be bent or even broken but only if you do so masterfully. The reader/watcher of the story will go into the story with a set of expectations which are usually roughly defined by their perception of reality, another system built on rules. It has rules like gravity, life cycles, time, and so forth. Until they are told otherwise the reader/watcher will apply these rules to the story. If you wish to bend or break a rule you must first explain exactly how that rule is being manipulated and ideally what conditions allow for the manipulation. A very important rule is known as Logical Consistency. It is expected that once the rules of a world are set they will be maintained consistently for everyone everywhere and if they are further manipulated or changed then that needs to be clearly explained as well.
One of those rules of reality could be called Skill. If you want to do something you must first learn to do that thing. You can learn the thing by trying and failing to do it many times or more quickly by having a master train you in that skill. You'll still try and fail, but at a far faster rate. When a person is introduced into a story they are given a background which is an opportunity to give them skills without having to train them. The Furious Five are all Kung Fu masters, they have trained their entire lives to achieve this the expectation is that they will be very powerful. Po works at a noodle shop but is a fan of Kung Fu, the expectation is that he will have limited Kung Fu skills but perhaps a general knowledge and aptitude for it. The entire first movie is Po's journey to becoming a Kung Fu Master. By the end of it after training with several masters he finally reaches his destined space where he is on par with the Furious Five members. Note that you don't necessarily need a huge amount of screen or page time spent on training so long as the character progress arc is completed in a way that is fulfilling.
Enter Kung Fu Panda 3. Kai is stealing the Chi of Kung Fu Masters and deploying them as soldiers in his conquest. They are explicitly shown to be on par with the Furious Five in combat capabilities. Then the Panda village is introduced, a short training montage ensues, then this group of civilians absolutely thrash an army of the greatest warriors in the world. Finally when all seems lost they spontaneously produce the ability to use Chi without any training at all and save the day. This story arc simply isn't very fulfilling even if the main story threads and arcs of the plot are overall fine. The way the story plays out creates significant bad-ass decay (when a powerful/cool character suddenly seems much less so). This impacts basically every character in the story. If this group of random civilians can all learn incredibly fighting skills and powers in a few days and defeat people who trained their ENTIRE lives how great could those warriors have really been?
Not everyone can logically put their feelings into a statement setup like this but I believe this is the primary reason that many people like Kung Fu Panda 3 significantly less than the first two. Another likely element is that the story focus's a bit more on the childlike elements of humor and such and it just strike a proper humor/seriousness balance compared to the earlier titles. I apologize for the length of this, but this is a rather complex subject.

Another thing i didn't like was the final battle. In the first movie it took a lot of time to defeat Ti-long; first Shifu tries when he was young then the fives tries but failed after that Shifu tries again but missed. Finally Po tries and did it! The fights were fun and exciting :D Same with Shen the peacock in the second movie. Each fight with him was thrilling and entertaining. Here it took fives minutes to beat Kai. It was fun but way too quick and a bit dissapointing. He's supposed to be a strong villain and got easily defeated by Po because of the deus-ex-machina aka all the pandas learning Shi out of nowhere. It wasn't awful but could be longer and funnier.

If I had to pick a broad theme for each of the movies of the trilogy, its be mastering Body, Mind, and Soul.
The first movie was Po mastering his own version of Kung Fu to suit his own body type.
The second movie, Po had to overcome mental barriers in his own mind.
And the third movie, Po had to master Chi which is best represented by a person's soul.
And it was only once Po mastered all three phases that he truly became the dragon warrior that Master Oogway envisioned when he selected Po to become the Dragon Warrior.

Kung Fu Panda 3 is still any amazing movie overall and I honestly think Kai’s theme is and character is cool (especially his entry in Jade Palace against Shifu and crew). However it’s weak in the trilogy much like other franchises. From what I heard is that because the 2nd movie was too dark, they had to tone down the 3rd movie. It’s a pity since the ending of 2nd movie leaves room for an epic sequence for 3rd movie. Not only that but they made this point too obvious in the 3rd movie that it was evident that they were mostly going for jokes.

Personally, I wouldn't say there's hate towards this movie, but rather disappointment due to it's wasted potential. Just as you said right at the beginning, the 3rd movie didn't live up to the legacy of the first two. The humour being excessively childish and the plot being too simplistic also damage it's overall performance. Most of all, I think the disappointment comes from the possibilities the story had with just some little tweaks. Just an example: supposedly, Po's ark closure was to become a master who could teach kung fu (I know he did, bear with me, I want to make a point). Also, in one frame where Kai's belt is shown, it's seen that one of the jade medallions is Tai Lung himself. However, such a crucial detail is not addressed at all, nor used in any way during the film. Having this two points, how nice would have been that, during the struggle of the fight, Po manages to break Tai Lung free, for accident, and having him being defeated not only by Po in our world, but also by Oogway in the past and by Kai in the spirit realm, a humiliated former villain could be set up for it's redemption, finally accepting from Po the wisdom of the dragon scroll, revamping the confidence in the fact that he is enough as it is, fighting alongside Po to defeat Kai, and once Oogway is set free again, not only would he be proud of Po for stopping Kai (which was what oogway was expecting), but also subverting the expectations of the master by accomplishing such an impossible feat as getting Tai Lung to learn. That would also give closure to Tai Lung's character, taking the role of the new guardian of the spirit realm (closure that wouldn't be needed if the movie hadn't shown that Tai Lung was on Kai's belt, but also the mere fact that the effect of the Wu Xi finger hold was just to vanish the victim to the spirit realm rather than make him explode). Again, this is not to say the movie is bad, just that it could have been so, so much better. Great reactions, man, keep on 👏🏼

My main problem with this film is the villain. We know Kai wants chi to become more powerful, but why does he want to become more powerful? Why does he think he needs it? Is there a greater threat he’s afraid of? It just seems like power for the sake of power, which isn’t very interesting.
If anyone knows why Kai thought he needed more chi, I’d love to hear about it.
