This is still one of the most beautiful and vibrant movies I've ever seen. Plus, I love that it raised awareness of a real life extremely endangered parrot, the Spix's macaw, of which only around 160 individuals remain, and are only just now being released back into the wild.
The colors and animation truly pops from the screen! And what a great way to raise awareness through the art!

As a brazilian who has been in Rio de Janeiro, I have to say: Rio is a good representation of the city Rio de Janeiro itself, but not even the rest of the RJ state
To be fair, there are a lot of stuff that people could complain about, this movie is 100% made of stereotypes and has even has literal monkeys stealing/being part of an 'arrastão'. If Brazilians were one of the token nationalities/ethnicities Americans defend for no apparent reason, this movie would never have been greenlit.

This is the movie that I spent so long trying to get my parents to watch, and when they finally saw it, mom said she liked it, but all dad said was that it was "okay"... then a couple weeks later I found him on the couch watching it by himself 😆
Nigel saying that he was upstaged by a pretty parrot is not just a lyric choice at all. In Brazil we have a very very famous tv host called Anna Maria Braga who had a puppet green parrot as a co host called Louro José, the movie is giving a nod to that because is simply a big part of Brazil lol

As a Brazilian I must say the music choices for this animation were great.
They even included some very famous Brazilian songs, but even the other ones (Not as know/famous) have some of the rhythms/ genres that are very present in our culture.
I don't know about the "Rio" aspect of it tho. I'm Brazilian but I've never been in Rio specifically. (Big country, u know? 🤣) All I know is that those little monkeys (we call them "sagui", plural saguis) actually steal stuff, they're sneaky little thieves. So I don't recommend leaving your stuff unsupervised around them.
They are also adorable, I actually fed them a few times. It was a bit hard because some of the monkeys are shy/scared. (Understandable, since they are very small animals. Humans must be really scary)
They exist in many places in Brazil, including where I'm from. One of my favourite animals.
I was born and raised in Rio and i can say this movie represents very well The City. Rio is the most beautiful city i've ever seen, The energy is amazing, The songs, this movie captures Rio very well. Sadly is a very dangerous city but i recomend every one to visit.

@@thepowerfulwolfspirit.2581 It really depends on the region you're in. In richer places like Copacabana it is safer, but there are several areas of Rio where a lot of robbery happens. Rio must be the only place where robbers use rifles to steal cell phones. There is also a lot of shooting and murder. Two Brazilian films that portray the situation in Rio de Janeiro very well are Tropa de Elite (Elite squad) and Cidade de Deus (City of God). These two films explore violence a lot, especially in the favelas, where crime is much higher.

In 2012 I went to Rio during Carnaval. It was a amazing experience, the places, the people, the music. Everything was amazing.
I was born and live in Rio and this movie does a good job showing not only the good sides but also the bad sides of the city. Answering your question, yeah Rio is as beautiful as this movie shows, you would love it here

The blue parrot species used in this movie is spix maccaws and sadly they are seem as extinct in the wild. There is a few in captivity but breeding programs aren’t going so Well. Hopefully they’ll be able to breed enough to release a new flock to the wild.

As a brazilian... i've never been at Rio. But the movie is pretty fun, and the parade i've seen some on tv, its pretty accurate really.
And as you could imagine, the dub here for this movie is priceless, the songs really fit like they were made here, man, i miss Blue Sky.

My cousin watched this over and over as his childhood movie obsession. It's not bad, but it isn't The Lion King or Toy Story.
Harry Potter: The Deathly Hallows Part 2, Kung Fu Panda 2, and Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked came out in that year. So it got heavy competition, interestingly Disney and Pixar did not come out with an animated movie that year, with Pirate's: On Stranger Tides being the only one and a pretty big flop.

I'm brazilian,and I live in Curitiba, a very cold city where practically everyone is of European descent. I've been to Rio like 3 times and is a whole different world. Is way more violent than my city and the little monkeys are truly jerks, but is very lively and fun to be there for a week or two.

Lived in Rio my whole life and sometimes it´s easy to forget how beautiful this place is. We take a lot for granted. It´s got its problems and violence is a major one. But is it that beautiful? Yes! It is! Not glamourized at all.

as a brazilian who has worked A LOT with birds, that movie is so accurate and well made its always astonish me, and yes, birds can not learn how to fly or be too many years in a cage so their muscles wont develop right and they wont be able to fly either, but its a really sad reality

I actually have birds and will be after 12 yeas of planning and research will be adopting my first rescue cockatoo I cant be more excited honestly. Ive noticed they love this movie. Also all my birds can fly its a natural instinct.

The thing I like the most about this movie (other than being Brazilian myself and feeling very well represented) is the fact the animators trully researched about the birds' body language, to a point they made this movie in a way that, like in The Lion King (just look into dogs/cats/animals reactions to the movie if you doubt me), real life birds could understand the characters of Rio perfectly.
See this golden conure with me in my profile pic? (he's also an endangered Brazilian bird by the way, and appears many times in this movie) His name is Konori, and he absolutely HATES Nigel, to the point of viciously attacking the screen every time he appears on it. He also doesn't love Raphael (toucans are parrots' and macaws' predators in the wild, will always attack their nests, so, I guess it's understandable). Another thing Konori does is to try to talk to Blu all the time. I really wish I could understand his language to know what he's trying so much to say to him...
Oh, and he loves the songs! Will stop anything he's doing to dance to them. Except for... well, Nigel's, naturally.
Funny enough, I have a friend who owns a cockatoo, and he... loves Nigel. He waits to dance to his song, and mimics his body language in details. I already warned her, she shouldn't sleep on the same room as him. And barricate her door. Just in case...

I think the only place is like pretty much been to is like Florida Durango which that one I don’t remember because I was like three Texas Padre Island and New York City Plus I don’t even remember some of my other trips I only remember Texas Padre Island New York City and Florida Plus I think I’ve also been places that I don’t even remember but like they come back to haunt me just a little bit because some of them were like most of those scary places and I know that there is more stuff like in Ohio and a bunch more other places where scary things happen like Mexico well back in the day that used to happen hopefully it doesn’t happen to me or anyone else ever again because if it does then I am literally going to call the cops and tell them to search the entire forest if that ever happened but only in Mexico
