- Maltesers… yet another candy item that I should not have lying around. Once I open a packet, that’s it. I’m popping Maltesers like there is no tomorrow! This recipe for Malteser Cupcakes is a good way of ensuring that you use up an open bag of the little crispy blighters. Light and malty, it is packed full of the things! Please note that if you are overseas, an alternative can be found in Whoppers, which are practically the same.

Pinch of salt
135g unsalted butter, softened
2 large free-range eggs
¼ tsp vanilla extract
1 ½ tbsp whole milk

when she excitedly ran to the stairs, not to mention her facial expression, it was absolutely adorable 😂
😂😂😂 agree
This may sound weird, but the beginning where Jemma runs up the stairs really added a lot, I think. Made the video feel more personal, more fun. In any case, dying to try these out. Maltesers are like, the best thing ever.
Also, catchy tune.
FOR EVERYONE WHO USES CUPS AND SPOONS TO MEASURE, HERE ARE THE INGREDIENTS:
1 tsp cocoa powder
1 1/2 tbsp malted drink powder (you can use carnation breakfast essentials or nesquick)
1/3 cup + 1 tbsp self raising flour (or regular flour with a 1/2 tsp baking powder)
1/2 cup + 1/2 tbsp or caster (or granulated) sugar
1/4 tsp baking soda
pinch salt
1/2 cup + 1 tbsp softened unsalted butter
2 large free range eggs
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 tbsp whole milk
FROSTING:
13 tbsp or 3/4 cup plus 1 tbsp softened unsalted butter
1 3/4 cup + 2 tbsp sifted icing (confectioners, powdered, icing same thing) sugar
4 tbsp whole milk
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
1/3 cup crushed maltesers (same thing as whoppers here in USA)
What recipe should i convert next?
Thank you so much 😍😍
+the wild one You're a legend.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Please can u convert the salted Carmel cupcakes and Penut butter and jelly cupcake, it would mean the world.
+Amina Jeilani I am so sorry but I do not do conversions anymore because I got a tremendous amount of hate each time I did one. Terribly sorry!
I am Maltese and I approve of this recipe
I love your channel and look forward to seeing all the delicious treats you make every week. 😁
I made these cupcakes today and they came out perfectly! They're so delicious! Plus, they're so simple to make. Thank you CupcakeJemma.
I've always loved how easy you make your recipes Gemma! So simple to follow, its fantastic!
Beautiful recipe, great combination Maltesers & Cupcakes... I like! Doris xx
When I first found Jemma's channel, I thought she was a little scary (no offense) because other bakers would smile and laugh but she seemed a little strict to me. But the more videos I watched, the more I loved Jemma and her videos. I think her smile is absolutely gorgeous and I love the way she does her videos. ^^
Samantha Janelle same
Same 😎
I had the same kind of reaction , she seemed to know what she was doing and she's really a professional , it's amazing how creative she is 😊😄
oh my god same😂
YASS!! I felt that way at first but I've been watching her for a couple of years now and I absolutely love her videos lol :)
Wow these look amazing! Maltesers are my absolute fav so can't wait to give these a go! I came to your shop a few weeks ago for a slice of the maltesers cake.....oh my! Thank you xxx
Your sillyness, quirkiness, and awkward humor made me binge watch your videos for over 2-3 hours. Love you, Jemma!!!
I fell down a rabbit hole while searching for biscoff cupcakes and discovered your channel. Normally I don't stray from Nigella recipes (I can't make Delia or Mary Berry recipes work for me) but lo and behold you told me this recipe would make 12 malteser cupcakes and it did! No leftover cake mix, no extra tins needed. You must be some kind of cake witch!
Wow, I feel like running to the shop to get ingredients to make these for my lunch! Yummy looking, going to have to try them!
I made these for a party today and the kids said they were the best cakes they'd ever had and they were a hit with the adults too! Thank you Jemma. Your video had to be shared with a few people afterwards. :)
Love your channel Jemma. Can't wait to try these delicious looking cupcakes. Your channel has inspired me to buy my first cake mixer, being delivered Monday. Can't wait!
You are sooo talented! Never let anyone stop you!

Hi Jemma,
I made these and they came out perfect, my family loved it. I love your channel and am a big fan. Will definitely pop over to Crumbs & Doilies when I come to London.
So yeah, I love your cupcakes (and i have painstakingly replicated most of them) because they are so detailed. I really appreciate how you incorporate the core ingredient (like the malt flavor here, or the lime flavor in margherita cupcake) in all the components, i.e., cake batter, icing and garnishes/toppings. They are well thought out and really stand head and shoulders above the crowd of cupcake recipes found all over the internet.
Will her buttercream frosting taste really sweet because her recipe normally uses a lot of icing sugar ?
Xin ying I don't always bake the same no. of cupcakes as Jemma, so my measures vary. I use as much icing sugar as needed to give the icing proper stiffness. So far I have never felt the buttercream is too sweet. I'm no expert, but if you think your buttercream will be too sweet for your taste with this amount of sugar, I guess you could reduce the amount of milk you add because milk makes the buttercream runnier and you'll need more sugar then to restore its stiffness.
These look sooo yummy! I defo need to try this ♥👌🍰
YASSSS I LUVVVV MALTESERS CUZ OF THE BUBBLY INSIDES!!! WHEEE THX FOR THIS RECIPE +CupcakeJemma

That oven sounds absolutely awesome!! Like it's ready to take off 😊 If you don't have a rolling pin use the bottom of heavy glass.
I made these today for my family and they are soo delicious, thank you for such a great recipe Jemma! Although, a few of the cupcakes sank in the middle so I was wondering what I could do next time to prevent this from happening? Does the buttercream frosting melt easily in our humid weather? I wanna bake these, and I am planning to bring it out. Haha.
Jannah Johari u can try the swiss meringue method for much stable butter cream frosting :)
CupcakeJemma I Actually Made These And They Were Very Fun To Make.My Friends Are Going To Eat The Malteser Cupcakes So I Hope They Enjoy It😊
I like that your bakery upper your shop 😍😍😍😫 cuuuuute
Thoughs look so nice we going to make cakes over the holidays and I think it might be them, thanks :)
Thanks for this recipe. I made them this weekend. I use gas rather than electric, and found 25mins as gas mk 4 worked much better than the Gas Mk 3 (Equivalent to 170c) for 20-22 mins. I made 2 batches, but the second ones at the higher temperature worked alot better (next time, I may even turn up the heat a little more as they still sank a little when cooling). Also, another reason for making 2 batches was because the amount of buttercream I made (with your quantities) was WAYYY to much for 12 cakes and in the end, covered 24 cakes. By no means did I skimp on the topping. All that said, I LOVE this recipe and will definately be making it again. :-)
Love it!
very good !!

Hi Jemma, I could listen to you for hours. Thanks for such amazing videos, tips, ideas and recepies. Do you have a Dulce de Leche Cupcake??? - Paula from Toronto, Canada.
I followed this recipe to the t. Even had the video on but my cakes collapsed in the middle. Any idea why? Was a bit of a disastrous bake actually because the nozzle got blocked :-j
That shop is beautiful. :D
It's better in real life :)
How do u no

The Vegetarian Baker kpoppo
The Vegetarian Baker it really is 😍
This might sound a weird compliment, but you have an undeniably British attitude, did you know that? All proper, quirky, and blessed with mistakes like all of us amateur foodies. I love how you brush it off everytime you mess up, or it doesn't go perfect.
Keep being odd, it suits you :D
The centre of an English Malteser, is in fact made by Horlicks, the same who made your Horlicks powder. Horlicks was invented by two English brothers, James and William Horlick, from Gloucestershire. The original UK factory, just to the West of Slough Station, was by the railway bridge on Stoke Poges Lane, Slough, Bucks (now Berks). Ovaltine was originally Swiss, but developed in Kings Langley Hertfordshire. Ovaltine dropped it's egg content years ago, and so is not as sophisticated as our Horlicks. Ovaltine is a very different taste compared to Horlicks, you either prefer one or the other.
Jemma! I never thought I could love you more than I do now. I love Maltesers and they're not easily found in the US!
could you please make cookie dough cupcakes and ferrero rocher cupcakes next time? xx
I love it
