Hands down the best tutorial for covering cakes with fondant. Most tutorials just tell you to pick up the fondant, cover the cake and smooth it down. I appreciate Jemma and Sally for giving us information about even the tiniest detail.
I have learnt from this video few years ago and still revisit to refresh my memory. It is absolutely the best and "FREE" tutorial you can ever find. I know some of the bakers charge ridiculous fees just to show (almost) the same method.
Thank you so much for this video. I finally made a wedding cake a couple of weeks ago that I was asked to make three years ago. I watched this video several times in preparation and took your advice of using madeira cake for the base. The tips on covering a cake in fondant icing really helped me to get a professional finish with no creases. The brides were very happy with their cake. So huge thank you Gemma and Sally. xx
If I lived where you are I would definitely want to work for you. I absolutely love LOVE love cake decorating. I can ice a rack of 8” rounds to a full sheet, 14-16 cakes in less than an hour. Decorating the rack a bit longer of course but not by much.
I have been decorating cakes for a while now, but today I tried your method and used the white ganache recipe. all I can say is WOW!!! I am so happy I did. I will never put fondant on a cake any other way. thank you for saving my cake decorating life!!
That was beautiful thank you I am a proud grandma I love baking and I learned so much also I remember many years ago I made a cake for my sisters wedding so you can see how much I love baking and also cooking I always send a blessing to everyone God bless you all and stay safe I will see you more on your video show bye-bye for now
Covering a cake with fondant has always seen like a nightmare. I've watched this video so many times since they posted it but today I finally had the courage to do it and HOLY. IT. WORKS!!! I've got few indentations at the bottom but that's my least worry because the crisp edge is just phenomenal for a first timer :D Thank you Sally and Jemma!
Sally, absolutely fab tutorial. clear concise and I love to watch you work. effortless. and a voice on U tube that doesnt annoy the hell outta you. brilliant. thanks. love this channel its my go to for cooking.
Thanks so much Sally and Gemma! I'm making my sisters wedding cake in September and you have given me the confidence to start practicing! The tips are amazing! X
Yes definitely the clearest tutorial. I can see where I need to improve now and the little mistakes I may have missed on my first attempt. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you 😍
This was so satisfying to watch, holy cow. And Sally is a cutie, and a total delight! Crumbs and Doilies seems like such a lovely place to work. Everyone is so talented and so sweet.
I would like to thank you guys for this wonderful tutorial . I am not a pro i am just passionate in cake design. I have been looking for tutorials every now and then for almost 2 years now and it still didn't help me to have sharp edges on my cake and i've watch really different kinds of tutorials and methods. So finally couple of weeks ago I asked my husband if i could follow a course but then days later i saw your video and i gave it a try today and finally i did. THANK U VERYYYYY MUCH . I have save 145€ hehehehe for the course. U two are my angels.
Hey Jemma ! I made your vanilla cupcakes today and they are sooo yummy and fluffy ! Thanks for the best cupcake recipe eveeeer !!! ps I love your channel and you deserve more subscribers !!!
I did small 5inch cake from scratch and it took me 3hours to finish the whole process of baking cake, making buttercream, crumb coating etc... They made it seems so easy. Worst part is, washing everything up 🌚
Very well done ladies! Not sure if you have a video to help those who need it for covering a square cake with sugar paste. I am in love with Sally! Wow, beauty, brains and that accent!
I love watching your videos for many reasons. Of course for the knowledge you share :-) You and your guest personality which are great and lastly I just love to hear you talk and you could be reading a Dr. Suess book and I would love your dialect just the same. :-) Thanks for your expertise, I will be trying the madera cake this weekend.
Lol or when the word 'super' is said. I watched another video with a bloke in it cooking and he said super so much. If u had a shot eachtime he said that u be dead 😂
OMG - i love it!!!!! This is just great and i cannot believe that i just found your video now - surely i need to go through ALL of your masterclass videos....!!! This is gonna help me so much on finishing the wedding cake today!!!! Especially the hint for how to cover the board - amazing! I absolutely love it!
I really dislike sugarpaste and even though I have worked with it for the past 3 years, I still dislike it. These tips are super helpful, thanks for sharing guys!
You are a great teacher, Jemma! I appreciate that you are always prompting your guest hosts (or you just outright tell us) the reason for doing or making things a certain way! Thank you!
...and after finding Dane's first appearance making macrons with Gemma, I've found Sally's first episode! It's great to see just how much that Sally has grown in confidence in front of the camera, too!
I'm entering a sugarcraft competition again next year in march (i went this march as well) and i got a commended grade. But now i'm aiming higher, for at least a bronze, hopefully a silver, magically a gold, IMPOSSIBLY a best in class. So i need all the tips i can get. Thank you so much!
I'm so happy I watched this video! I didn't know making a cake with fondant needed so many details and tricks. Thanks for the video! I also love the pair!
she isnt the nicest person ever... but i get wut u mean! but theres nicer ppl out there so thats why i disliked! im srry if sally sees this and is offended... but we dont even know her!.... but im sure shes rlly nice but not nicest person ever... im a fan of sally
Hello! when you say you leave the cake overnight or for three hours, do you leave it room temperature or in the fridge? Since there's buttercream in it I reckon you need to chill it but you didn't say so I prefer to ask
I don't know u and I'm not a supporter of tattoos (religiously) but the fact that you bake and have a bunch of tattoos looks super freaking cool like it's so bad ass and kinda gap-moe? Idk it's really cool
depends on your preference, they are completely separate things, one is frosting made with butter and sugar and one is just chocolate lol so just whatever you like, some people use ganache because they think it is more sturdy or they can get sharper edges, but both can be used in the same way
Personally for sugar paste cake I preferred white chocolate ganache because improves also the taste, because most of the people doesn't like how the sugar paste tastes, and with the sugar of the buttercream and the sugar paste is just too sweet, so If you add de ganache you can enjoy better the whole cake not just the inside part :D well that's my opinion and my costumers :)
Flam Flam .....especially store bought fondant.... try making your own....and adding flavors.... basic one is a marshmallow fondant we use for kids cakes 😀
It's easy to make your own, actually. Some mini marshmallows and a small bit of water, microwave in 30 second increments until it gets puffy, stir in a bunch of sifted powdered sugar, then once formed, knead with your hands until it's the right consistency for your needs.
Although it's really friendly, I have the feeling that Sally is slightly intimidated by her boss. Probably just not used to the front of the camera. Great video though :)
+Kcnya Of course you can put fondant on any cake! What we're saying is that for the best results, and to minimise cracking, sinking, bulging, etc, you should choose a cake which is a bit firmer, as the softer sponge cakes, carrot cake, for example, are more likely to do all of the above.
+CupcakeJemma so true but knowing the right application and how think or thin to make fondant helps.... some folks have theie tricks to keep from cracking etc.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I just took a fondant class and was told it wasn't possible to get those very sharp edges. Now I can see it's very doable :) . Thx you both!
Great video! When you apply the sugarpaste, what is the temperature of the cake (room temperature, fridge, freezer)? Thank you so much! NM, I think at 6:10 she mentions it was in the fridge prior to the second coat of white chocolate.
Really enjoying all your tutorials I’m an absolute beginner but looking forward to start baking I as just wondering is sugar paste the same as supermarket fondant icing Thanku x
The lady on the left is constantly walking over Sally. Not in a mean way but when you've done interviews or improv you will understand what I mean. She's a good interviewer i think she just needs better timing also Sally is more on the quiet side which is probably why the lady doesn't notice she's doing so. Wonderful video and wonderful girls
this is still the best cake tutorial out there regarding fondant.
I love how you’re all so generous with your talent and knowledge ... thank you for helping us ‘newbies’ out xx
This video is by far the most best explained tutorial in covering a cake!!! Well done girls! Keep up your excellent work!! 😍👌🏼
I actually prefer the one by wiltons.
Hands down the best tutorial for covering cakes with fondant. Most tutorials just tell you to pick up the fondant, cover the cake and smooth it down. I appreciate Jemma and Sally for giving us information about even the tiniest detail.
Sally used to be soo cute and shy in front of the camera!! Now she's a complete star!!!!
Yes.. I also see that now Sally is more confident and shows her happy go lucky personality... 😁😁😁
I have learnt from this video few years ago and still revisit to refresh my memory. It is absolutely the best and "FREE" tutorial you can ever find. I know some of the bakers charge ridiculous fees just to show (almost) the same method.
Okay, this is AMAZING. That fondant-covered cake board-tip is gold. Thank you!

You can totally tell that they really know, what they are talking about!
I have been decorating cakes for a while now, but today I tried your method and used the white ganache recipe. all I can say is WOW!!! I am so happy I did. I will never put fondant on a cake any other way. thank you for saving my cake decorating life!!

Jemma and Sally: fabulous tutorial. By far the best tutorial for sugarpaste application and finishes I've seen.

The cake smoother reminds me of dry-walling, but tastier.

Best fondant cake cover video I have ever seen!
but does white chocolate ganache taste better than buttercream ?

There is so much work in your cakes.. Once I'm going to have one for my birthday!
So Sally's adorable...
Right?? 🙂
So awsome to see a cooking video with chefs with personality thanks xx
Fondant looks amazing, but tastes like lipstick.
You eat lipstick?
***** Ah, I don't really wear make up. I just occasionally wear some eye liner :)

Although it's really friendly, I have the feeling that Sally is slightly intimidated by her boss. Probably just not used to the front of the camera.
Great video though :)
Jordan L yeah she is in this video but now 2020 she’s amazinggggg

Geneva Mae Diaday Omg I just noticed it! Now I have to know who eats them 😂
I just went to Crumbs & Doilies website, and I think they use the strawberry Stik-O on the Strawberry Milkshake cake! Omg 💗
Fab video- subscribed!! I learnt more from this video than I did at a pricey cake course at the local college!
Not true..
here in America Fondant can be used on just about any cake
+Kcnya Of course you can put fondant on any cake! What we're saying is that for the best results, and to minimise cracking, sinking, bulging, etc, you should choose a cake which is a bit firmer, as the softer sponge cakes, carrot cake, for example, are more likely to do all of the above.

+CupcakeJemma oops *thick
+CupcakeJemma by the way....absolutely love you guys!!!!
+CupcakeJemma how to make fondant? I once tried but it turned out so hard after kneading it and started cracking after putting it on the cake.
Amazing tutorials from two amazing ladies. What can I say? Thank you so much, I appreciate.
Honestly the only thing i could think while watching this was how much paper gets wasted? They could easily reuse it!
paper?
I agree! re-use the paper if it's just been used short-term between cooked layers.
Yes, that's exactly my point!! :)
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I just took a fondant class and was told it wasn't possible to get those very sharp edges. Now I can see it's very doable :) . Thx you both!
Your face Jemma! Your face very look like Pam MBO of thailand!
Hi Gemma. I love how cheery you are. You make baking videos a lot, waaay lot less boring... 😀😀😀... good job!

Sofia Rodriguez well, she's the owner of the shop. She knows everything that's going on so she talks a lot. She just needs someone to demonstrate it.
