We used to go there every year. We owned a house in Spalding. Haven’t been there in years since we sold the house. Never caught a fish there on powerbait. Biggest and best fighting trout ever.
Nice catches! I was out there, fishing from the shore this past September and got skunked. Not even a bite. But I was still in the shallows, hadn't walked far enough to find deeper water I guess, maybe that's why. Looks like the Grebes were as plentiful when you were there as they were in September. They're fun to watch. Thanks for the video.
It's really shallow for a lot of the shoreline. I had to walk a fair distance to get to this spot. I remembered this deeper area from when I shot the video with my boat but I didn't recall it being this long of a walk from where I parked. It was far!
Dang now I'm really excited to go to Eagle lake. Amani you slayed it as usual. Going there soon for the first time, not sure why I have waited so long since I only live an hour and a half away. Going to try my soft plastics and see how they fair.
Right on. I'm not sure when it opens but I plan to hit it right before it closes in the cold season. Good luck when you go. I have another clip for this lake on my lakes and reservoirs playlist where I fish it from my boat if you haven't seen it and are interested.
I fished Eagle Lake the first time in 1971 . I've fished it many times since . It is the most memorable experience for steelhead like lunkers I have ever caught .
Yeah, there are some bruisers in there. The lakes in that area are solid. Almanor, Butt valley, Eagle lake, I have clips for all of them on my lakes and reservoir fishing playlist. The first time you fished Eagle Lake was when I was born!
I've got to say , 4 to six pounders were the norm for several years for me . All caught from shore near the end of season. The last 6 pounder was in 2005 .
Right! That fog wasn't moving. It wasn't great on the drive either. I can deal with some heavy fog if it ends up with a fish like this in the net. I had fun kicking back out there.
Nice! over 20" has been pretty common out there this season. If you take the right turn before you get to the marina and park by camp Ronald Mcdonald there is much deeper water on that side of the lake.
Right on. Thanks for the intel. It was really shallow near shore where I went down to the lake until I walked quite a distance. I guess that's what happens when you aren't sure where you are going in heavy fog!
It depends on how cold the water is , you want to fish shallower in the cold months , they are feeding on little orange mollusks , I’ve been fishing it since the 70’s btw when every other fish was 6lbs !!!
Yeah, they were biting so light on my powerbait. They seemed to be interested in it the most but they would pick it up and drop it a couple of times and then just go away. There was no aggression in the bite.
@@wildernesswithamani1027 my mom owns a cabin in bucks bay and lives up there year round. I get to fish it when visiting and have several times over the years. Never catch anything and if you see me out there I fish all over without an issue. I wandered onto that beach a couple weeks back and had the urge to continue but my wife and three kids were in the truck waiting on me so I had no time 😭 lol your videos give me some hope at least.
@@wildernesswithamani1027 yeah I usually just hand them a rod and tell them let's go but my youngest is two and she wasn't up for a cold trek that day 😂
That fog just wouldn't go away. I'm glad I didn't bring my boat because I would have been invisible out there to larger boats. I got a whistle but who wants to count on that!
When it's cold like this and the lakes have fully turned over my experience shows that soaking bait from shore can be tops in lakes and reservoirs. I just look for at least 10 feet of water and post up. 20 feet of water is better because then I can fish different depths but if all I can get is 10 then I'll make do. The fish were hitting really light and mostly just leaving without ever taking it fully. It was quite frustrating!
Yeah, I ate the small fish the first night and then I got into the bigger filets last night. The neighbor I give fish to wasn't home so I kept it all. After I portioned it all out and prepped it, I got 5 meals off of both of those fish. I'll walk down and knock on my neighbor's door once after I get home with a catch. If the dude doesn't answer then it's next time!
Wow I have not been to that lake in a long, long time. It would be a new adventure for me, I forgot everything about it. However I doubt I could work it as well as you did. Interesting to see the fog up there as well ….
Once I got down to that first section of shore and it was only a couple feet deep as far out as I could cast I knew I was lost! Then I was just a fool rambling through the fog with little idea over whether I was going to run into water deep enough to fish in a reasonable amount of time and distance. I discovered, after walking a really long way, that I could have parked a lot closer to where I ended up fishing. Because I got such a nice fish, I didn't feel too bad about that. Good trout in the net solves a lot of issues!
I was at Davis recently too fishing for my Patreon. It's frozen solid at the dam but If you drive back towards the boat ramp that's where the open water is. I got a nice rainbow. Went below the dam with my fly rod after that and lit up some wild rainbows.
It wasn't that cold. It was only ion the 30's during the morning but it didn't feel like it warmed up much with how damp it was on top of the lack of sun. It was weird not being able to see very far for the 3 or 4 hours I was out there though.

If you go to my fishing tips playlist I have a clip "rigging up for reservoir trout" that details my basic set up for bait fishing for trout. I also have clips for the specific hooks I use for powerbait and nightcrawlers. I have a lot of basic info on what I use in many of the videos across my channel playlists. Hope that helps. Good luck.
I use a needle file and vice grips. I have a clip on my fishing tips playlist where I do a basic demonstration of how I do it and what I use. I like to file them completely off so there is no question. There are a lot of types of needle file sets available on Amazon for under $15. Get the smaller sets. The larger needle file sets take too much hook with the barb. in each set there are about 5 files that are actually great for this purpose. The others might come in handy for other things I guess. I don't use them.

Yeah, I fished it a couple of times and got nice fish both outings. You must have loved having that house up there. Fishing all over the area.

Fightin' the fog and catchin' the hog. Nice work. That monster was beautiful.
I like your summation of events! That was the day of fishing in a nut shell.
👍👍👍👍🎣🎣🎣🎣
Right on. Good times.
check out pelican point great spot at eagle lake just past the air strip
Right on. Maybe I can get a chance to scout that out next time.
Diving Ducks are the stars in the background. They Like you!!
There were two that kept swimming all over my lines. They wouldn't leave me alone!
Armani, Eagle lake is in Lassen County😂
Oh man, Thanks. I was so tired when I got home and put this together I didn't even think about it.
To funny I always say that..”Jackson”
Right on. That fog was crazy.
Dont have the foggiest idea where i am...Thought you were going to hook Nessie!!!
Nice fish Amani !!!

We used to fish from shore by the Youth Camp. Always did good.
No matter how miserable the conditions, you always haul them in and make it all worth while. Can't wait for April opener.

I have fished that lake many times from shore but usually don’t catch anything. You made it look easy! I think the fishing improves this time of year.

Nice trout. Winter fishing is fun if not too cold or windy. Eagle lake trout are some of the best eating bows.

As long as I'm battling trout like this into the net, I'll be doing just fine!
Crap, I was just at Lake Davis...
It was frozen solid. I should have went to Eagle

Merry Christmas to all!

Yes, Merry Christmas.
Right on. I'm ready for some football today to be sure.
Good job! Don’t freeze your ass off!

you can pinch the barb down yourself.
He files them off….
