    Hey Jay,
I used to be out in the woods most of my life in warm and 30° below stuff like your video. I was a lifetime hunter, fisherman, taxadermist and outdoor natural mountain man along with my lady Denielle. We got hit by a drunk semi driver 4 years ago and our Rangerover was no match - and neither were my beautiful Denielle or I. I'm alone now and trapped in this big house with legs that no longer work, and lost my left arm. Worst part is I was left handed but I've learned to use my right pretty good now. Just wanted to tell you how very much I enjoy your adventures and experiences. I can honestly smell the fires you build and nothing on earth is as good as a few hotdogs eaten in camp. No sir, nothin. I'm livin thru your experiences now. Me and my sweety had our time and no one can ever take that away from us - them times we're days and nights that God gave to us to keep forever and always. I'm sure Denielle is out scouting new places for us to camp out on soon as I get back in her arms.
    You're doing a good thing son - don't stop.
    God loves you.
    🤗♥️🙏✝️🎶

I have that same tent as a 5 person and it has been with me everywhere. Negative 20 F outside and 80 F inside. Insulated floor that unzips for ice fishing and zipperless front door that will never ice up. That tent is absolutely bomb proof.

When I was a a young man in my early 30’s I was working a rail gang in the mountains. 100% manual labor with rail spikes, sledge hammers, rail bars etc. I was paired with a “old” man of about 60 years. No matter how hard I worked he stayed right with me. I was completely confused. I was sweaty, tired, blistered and miserably sore. After a couple of days and getting to know him I just came out and asked him how he did it. I will never forget his response. He told me to let the tools do the work.

When you put your sausages in, add water. Enough to go about half way up the sausages. That will cook the interior of the sausage without burning the outside and drying them out. After the water cooks away, then the sausages will brown.

The red light is to protect your night vision. That's why submarines have red lights inside, so the guy going outside on watch while surfaced or using the periscope can see in the dark. Same goes with headlamps. It allows you to see things in the dark, like a trail, while retaining your night vision. I use mine when hiking sometimes.

    • @chrismaverick9828
      @chrismaverick9828 Месяц назад +28

The Red lenses were good for helping to night adapt, but they weren't 100%. The human eye can see a lot at night after about twenty minutes of adjustment to the blackness, but the least bit of direct light, like a match or white light, will wipe it out entirely. On moonless nights the blackness at sea was near total.

I assure you that your feet are the last place you want to be spraying toxic antiperspirant. Its terrible to spray on your armpits too. Toxic chemicals being absorbed into the skin, especially in sensitive areas like the armpits and feet are going to catch up to you. There are glands behind the armpits that will be exposed to those chemicals, not to mention the fact that the armpits and feet are 2 places that release toxins through sweating and to keep those toxins in your body and then add to them with a chemical spray is dangerous. You can say you dont care but everyone says that right up to the day that they start their chemo treatments. Im not busting your chops, I bring this to your attention because I want you to be healthy and disease free.

It's definitely not for everyone. You have to grow up with that kind of weather to appreciate it. In the states, I used to live in the northern plains where some winters would consistently drop to -20F (-29C) in the coldest parts of the year. The record wind chill was actually set at -70F this year in January. Super thankful I moved out of state beforehand!
Even if you grow up with that weather, there are limits to how much a normal person would expose themselves to, because in weather that cold, you could start to develop frostbite to exposed skin in as little as 5 minutes or less. Dressing in many layers, but not enough to sweat (because sweat can cause hypothermia), is the key to being comfortable. Remove/add layers as needed to control your internal temperature.
Also I would highly advise against using any clothing with "cloth" type fabric when out in these temperatures, because once that gets wet, it stays wet. Wool works fantastically as an alternative. It traps in your body heat and wicks away moisture.

Here in Finland it gets that cold sometimes too. Not as often these days though as it did before. Not in the south of Finland anyway. If you are inland where the air is dry and there's not too much wind it's actually not that bad. Extreme cold is better than extreme heat in my opinion.🥵 Just have enough layers on 😊

@@rickdiego5 To get a few inches of snow, I would have to drive about 8 hours. I used to drive up to Tennessee and North Carolina in December and it was in the teens and it would sometimes snow overnight but once the sun came out overtop, the snow would melt. The last time I saw a nice thick layer of snow was in Waukegan, Illinois. A small city about 30 miles north of Chicago. Mostly filled with neighborhoods and oversized schools. As a kid you would have to wear a outfit not so different then the younger brother in the movie The Christmas Story. Some mornings the snow was stacked so high, it would be impossible for kids to walk through without falling up till your waist. To me, snow was a lot like people seeing the ocean for the first time. Now, I live in Mikey Mouse city, while entertaining for kids and people that love parks. I always found the parks lines overbearing, even as a kid. I live 45 minutes from the ocean and about 2 hours from actual cold, which is Jacksonville. For the most part in December, it will be in the lower 50s in the morning and 80 in the afternoon, yes 80.

On every winter trip to your cabin or tent, I was concerned about your wooden matches being damp and not working. I am very glad to see that you know how to use a fero rod for starting fires! Dryer lint would also really make it much easier to start your fire with a fero rod, though some would consider that cheating lol! I'm glad to know now that you don't solely trust wooden matches and butane lighters to start a fire in those low temps! I will rest easier now. And, I expect to see BIC lighters in the cabin next video, too! LOL. Great videos every time, Jay!

I use the double sleeping bag method and under and over blankets too but it is not as cold where I camp. Still goes below zero even inside due to no heating.
The wide envelope bags allow legs to move helping avoid cramp. I make sure my legs stay warm with long johns and track suit bottoms and thick thermal socks as otherwise cramp can set in after long hard physical exercise like hiking. I make sure everything is light weight thermal material.
