    Thank you Bob! I backed my 2020 GX into my garage for the first time, not realizing the shark fin didn't have clearance of my overhead storage rack. The whole cover got knocked off! The first thing I thought of was you, and if you had a video covering a shark fin installation. It took me about an hour and a half because I had to bend the inner liner of the shark fin back into place and piece the whole antenna back together. The roof was slightly bent but I was able to level it out. I used a little clear silicone to make sure the antenna stays watertight. You are DA MAN!

      I know i said the loosening of the 10mm and disengaging the plug is done blindly, but there is enough room for you to stick your arm in there and visually see what you're doing. It was just challenging for me because of the camera angles. You will definitely have an easier removal than i did.

    This really helps me! I have a 2021 RX350. Basically the same procedure. I had one insurance estimate and it was $2500.00! They tried to tell me the whole headliner had to come down. They have to check the beam underneath for damage and then remove the roof racks so they could redo the whole area around the fin! Told my wife I’m going to do it myself. Total parts $175.00 and about 45 minutes work. The small dimple near the fin I’ll massage out with a spoon. Any possibilities of leaks will be siliconed. Crazy!

      I have a 2011 GX… Will the GFC 4Runner shark fin delete fit my rig? I want to add the front runner table to my rack and it mounts under the rack. I’m looking for a way to get it to work? I basically need to either shave the fin down or install the gfc or can I just remove it and install the MVT delete which is just a couple of washers and a nut that would keep it water tight? What exactly is in the antenna? Could I just 3m tape it up inside the headliner?

    • @GX46070
      @GX46070 Год назад

      @@PeterKinsey GFC 4 runner delete should fit your ‘11 GX, I can’t see why Toyota would have changed the fin with the facelift in 2013… That said, it takes less than 10min to pop the fin out using Bob’s method, to confirm if it’s the same as what’s in the GFC install video, and you can always put it back in. Better than destroying it to take it off.
      My use case was the same as yours, to mount my FrontRunner table under my rack. It’s worked out great.
      I still don’t know what the antenna is for, but haven’t noticed any difference after having it off for many months. (I don’t use satellite radio)

When I press down on the antenna, there is a small amount of free play. BUT there are no leaks. Would you change out the antenna just to be sure??? Or leave it as is???

    Hi, Bob, thank you so much for your video, it helps to understand how this process work! I do have a question, after you replace the antenna, can we go do car wash as normal as before? I was wondering if the water will get thru the gap of the antenna since there isn't any glue or rubber seal to secure the shark fin cover? Please be kind enough to advice. I recently had the dealership to replace for me and the advisor was saying it show be ok but won't know till it if gets thru a good rain? Your expertise is greatly appreciated. I really need to get the car washed... kinda dirty.😀

    • @GXBOB
      @GXBOB  Год назад

      Depends…why did you have it replaced? Accident backing your truck in the garage? If your antenna was struck then the contour of your roof was probably affected even though you can’t see it by the naked eye. I feel like anything that’s taken off after the manufacturer had their robots installed never really goes back the same anymore especially exterior components. I suggest you lay a bead of silicone where the antenna makes contact with the roof of your Lexus just to sleep better at night. Nothings worse than water damage.
      Rectorseal 57500 10.1-Ounce Hi-Temp 100-Percent Rtv Silicone Sealant is a good exterior sealant for water proofing on paint that’s recommended by others.

      @@GXBOB Thanks Bob for your quick reply! Yes, i did have my garage door yanked the antenna cover off. But the actual antenna was still sitting good but a bit crooked on the top. However the shark fin cover could no long letch on properly and dealer suggested to replace the whole thing, which I did. They put it back and it looks find and I did ask if they seal it up, they said it doesn't need to be sealed it is just a screw to secure it ( just like the way you show on your video). So I was wondering if i should be worrying about the water leaking in ? Maybe I m paranoid ...I should wait till it rains once to tell? Thanks a million again.

    • @GXBOB
      @GXBOB  2 года назад

      Sorry German, i own a base model and do not have the options of sport/comfort modes. I only have one mode and its spring coils with shocks. If you have the option of adjustable shocks that provide sport/comfort mode then there should be a significant difference since one is a tighter feel and one is a softer feel. If you get to the point where you can't tell the difference, you might want to check your shocks for visible leaks and change them out. I had a 2011 GX premium that had those options but rarely ever used it. I found it to be useless to me.

Reason why i ask is leather is more durable, smells better, and lasts longer, but synthetic retains its color without fading, a lot easier to clean, and takes the beating of hot climate better.
