Great video. Current owner of a ‘23 for one year, 30k miles now. Absolutely love this pig, despite my 17 smiles per gallon. Will never sell this iconic, V8 luxury off-road tank. Last of a special kind.
Funny , yes my 2017 papa pig is still giving relaxing pleasure even in horrid traffic . It’s old school driving , parking is unbelievable manoeuvrable , highway too easy to be speeding without any idea of your speed , on a cloud . Use the manual 6 speed occasionally for acceleration, and I pull a small RV on occasion very stable . Best wife simply loves it .
Here are the problems I experienced with my 2016 GX Basic. Timing chain cover leak, water pump, spark plugs at 100k. Did all the work myself. Saved money even though I replaced many other parts since it was apart.
1 year of ownership for my 17 GX luxury, bought it with about 40k miles, now have about 53k miles, zero issues, such a pleasant car to drive, yea gas mileage sucks and the cost of premium gas doesnt help but it just comes with the territory. I upgraded the infotainment with apple carplay and I am absolutely in love even more!
Premium gas isn't necessary, you're just wasting money. Thousands of owners use 86 or 87 octane for hundreds of thousands of miles without ever having a single issue. Me included.
Purchased 2017 with 45000 miles. No issues. The quality and smoothness overpass all other things. These gems are not made for people who are always concerned about the gas mileage. Best made SUV's in the world.

Great video! I snagged a 2018 with 60,000 miles for just over $30k cash last month, and absolutely love the truck so far. I feel you may have overstated the danger of the used market and the importance of warranties, as we should all keep emergency savings to maintain whatever cars we choose to own. You are right about the benefits of buying new or leasing, but my gosh you will pay for them!

I just picked up a 2023 GX listed as certified with only 10 miles on it for $55K. I don’t even have 100 miles on it yet but this is my 5th Lexus so I have high hopes.
Bought a used 2011 gx460 with 124k 1 owner southern vehicle.. Needed hood struts, inner tie rods and alignment, rotors, a radiator cap, back up lamps, and has small oil leak left valve cover. Compared to other makes of same year and mileage that come through our shop, not bad at all and I am very happy with this thing. I do notice the lean that feels almost like rear steer or bad camber on non level roads but drives straight as an arrow on level roads. 100% Would buy again. Very smooth ride. Knew I wanted one since the first time I drove one I worked on
I got a 2020 certified for $42k back in May. With taxes it was 46k. It had 47k miles at the time. I’m very happy with it. It’s basically new at the time a new one would have cost me about 62k for the aspect I wanted. The only difference I see I no car play which doesn’t really bother me. I could have probably gotten a better deal if I waited but it has only lost about 2k in value since I bought it and I have out 8k miles on it. So far no issues
Massive congrats my friend, beautiful SUV and I pray that you continue to have an excellent ownership experience with your GX. Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing!
Which gx do you own …. Cause i am planning to buy one too(the 2020 one) …. And have you offroad with it yet? And how does it drive … cause I currently own a toyota prado 2008 vx 700k km and no issues!

I have a 2016 GX that I purchased used in 2019 with 15k miles and it was a fleet vehicle at a dealership. I currently have 132k miles on her, been from California to Texas 3 times and the issues I've had have been a reoccurring alignment correction, touchscreen went out. Radiator cracked in 2023, 2024 passenger door lock actuator went out and rack & pinion replaced. My blower motor just started going out as well. In my opinion, this has been a very solid truck given its age, mileage, usage as a fleet vehicle.
09 - 0:18 If you look closely, you’ll see/notice it leans slightly towards the passenger seat. This is due to a suspension system called KDSS. If you change to larger tires or wheels, it will lean even more.
Great review, no car is perfect but the GX460 is better than most in terms of reliability. I’m averaging 18 to 20 mpg; compare that to Savage geese getting 21 mpg in the new Lexus RX. As always, try and get the latest year possible within a model run.
18 to 20 mpg is what I get on the highway with mine but in town it’s 14 MPG and 15 MPG thanks to the all-wheel-drive system. Do I care? No I don’t. I’m rich and I want value and reliability over MPG.
@@MeynMotorGroupno comparison to the RCF. Had a 2015 that was a 💩 after 40k miles. Everything went wrong with that car except the engine and transmission. Glad I unloaded that POS. Have a 2014 GX that is rock solid and just had its 120k mile service done. No issues, survived floods and a hurricane.
I bought my 2017 GX 460 at 39k miles now its got 65k i change oil religiously and put premy gas in it I do live in Fairbanks Alaska and it gets -50 and i haven't had a issue other then the cabin filter had to be replaced it stunk up the cabin other then that so far so good i only bought it it was the only 3rd row at the time here that was worth a crap yes the gas millage is gross i get 9mpg in the winter but its a sweet ride get alot of complements. its a beast of a truck in really like it over all i hope it holds up for me.
I have owned between my wife and I five Land Rover products, they don’t last and they do not hold their value. I will never own another Land Rover product ever recently bought two Lexus products GX 460, 2012 and my wife has had a 2005 RX 330 absolutely beautiful cars cannot get any better.
Be aware the 330 has a timing belt that needs changing and two small oil lines that must be upgraded. You need to make sure these two things are attended. Look it up. Save yourself a ton of grief. I own an rx 300 and a 350. Love them. I drive the hell out of them, will give to my kids soon. Buying another rx350 next year. Plenty of power and comfort.
We could not afford the LX, so we got the GX. Friggen love it. It’s our family car and very roomy. Feels a lot bigger inside then the 4Runner and so much more quite. Roadtrips are a dream.
I recently picked up a 14’ GX460 used from a local Lexus dealer with 85k miles and a 2” lift already done. Went ahead and got a warranty just in case any of these issues come up however I’m hoping I don’t need to use it. Love it so far.
That is awesome my friend massive congrats on your purchase. I pray you don't have to use it either but it certainly is nice to have that peace of mind. And if it's a pro rated warranty you can cancel anytime and get a portion of that warranty refunded back to you. Do you mind sharing with us how much you paid for the warranty?
I’m find this very interesting cuz I used to own a 2016 for 4 years it’s a luxury model and it’s a great SUV until we got reared ended upset me so much. A few years ago we bought a replacement 2019 Certified still driving everyday great SUV never had any problems.
I think it's important for everyone to understand (although I mentioned this throughout the video) that these issues don't have to happen to everyone but they CAN happen. There's plenty of people who had no issues and this goes for any car make. My master tech has two benzes with 300k miles with no issues with either one. But it's important to note that used cars really are just rolling the dice and I want to protect consumers that don't have a lot of money.
That’s true, it is good to note this and highlight issues on any used car. It’s true Scotty and others make blanket statements but i do find it funny that all of the comments on your video are people with no issues. There always are issues on every vehicle. I like that you at least provide the perspective of leasing as most financial advisors or anyone like Scotty or older people would never. Even if it is leasing through your friend, but still. Better to hear the other side too!
This is wildly incorrect. The LX's AHC compensates for softer sway bars and actively counters body roll. I owned a GX460 for 4 years and now an LX570. Virtually everything about the LX is superior, including the body roll. You put the LX in Sport+ mode and it stays almost totally flat. And, also, KDSS sucks offroad if you are in 4hi and moving quickly because it doesn't unlock. If you are traveling on a faster forest service road or dirt road, the KDSS causes the GX to ride very stiff. This is not true of the LX with AHC. Hell, even my F150 rode better on fast dirt roads. Ill take AHC all day long over KDSS.
@@Jay-me7gw the only thing that's wild around here is your misinformation and emotional bias. The LX570 handles like shit compared to the GX- it has far more body roll and doesn't stay flat on curves. Now you're talking about an F150 on leaf springs riding better than a GX- you've established you have no idea what you're talking about. You bought a new vehicle and you've come here to spout off absolutely nonsense bias- you need a hobby, because this is just pathetic.
I have a 2023 premium plus sport love it great car I’ve had five forerunners beforehand. This is my first GX. I will buy another one of this body style. I know about the coolant Gully problem or reservoir problem or whatever it is but everything else I kind of expected at some point, but They were great car.
On the fence on a 2023/24 4Runner vs GX primarily due to Premium gas requirement. Now GX has many aftermarket support and fan base to build a better off-roader with lux 50/50 still
Bought our 2021 new. Coming up on 45,000 mile service. We take it on road trips from North Idaho (CDA) to Scottsdale 3 times every year with side trips to Yellowstone,Moab, Zion, etc. 21 to 23 mpg on highways at 80mph. Replaced tires at 40,000. I have 2019 gx bought new. I had front suspension chirping noise issue turned out to be rubber stopper. Rear suspension had screeching noise turned out to be brake cable and bracket problem. The dealer did not want to investigate and spend time trying to find out cuz Lexus dealership admitted Lexus wont warranty parts for noise related issue. Thank you so VERY MUCH for all the work you put into these videos to help educate your viewers. I'm an older widow, and im working hard to educate myself on what the best vehicle will be for me to purchase. Finances require me to get a used vehicle......and i want the most reliable vehicle i can get. I sincerely appreciate these type of videos!
Coming up on 200k on our 2012 GX460. Brakes, tires, battery… if you flush the coolant you won’t get a valley leak. Old coolant becomes corrosive and is the primary cause of the coolant valley leak. Flush early and often 😂
I brought mine used 2010 @110k miles for $16k. She got a new tran replaced after 230k. Coolant leak is a common issue. Overall Gx is a good suv if you maintaining it properly.
Every vehicle on the road has its own common issues. But peculiar problems doesn't speak to frequency of issue. Which is what we all want to know. What percent of GX owners experience these things? Im still deciding if i want to pick up one of these so thats what I'd like to know.
Did u buy it? Nightfall Mica is such a great color, looks navy, looks purple at times I bought a 2018 2.5 years ago w 29k on it and I love it everytime I’m in it
Had various other cars in the past. Must say once I got a Lexus, I was filled with joy how it felt driving it. Sadly I got rear ended and now time for another Lexus .
We have a 2023 460 and it was leaning and pulling to the right, it's the crown of the road. We went to a shop familiar with this and did an alignment and reprogram for $80. No issues going straight down the road now. The alignment comes "perfect" from the manufacturer and a lot of shops will go with that spec and not account for the road crown. It's not a big deal at all but if you're taking your rig to a shop that isn't up to speed, you'll chase your tail for sure.
i've owned two MB 300SD's, a 380SL, a 460SL, a 560S Coupe, an S500 coupe, a 600SL roadster, and a ML420. I also have had to GMC full size SUV's (a Yukon and Yukon Denali), and I can tell you, none of those past vehicles can hold a candle to a Lexus GX460 or RX330.
I have one question. When Toyota released the Land Cruiser 300, it came with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Can we intall this transmission to this GX 460? Thanks.
Great informative video. I have a new 23 460 GX, bought it for its history of reliability but you educated me on some potential major issues. Are the Timing chain cover leaks, valley coolant plate leaks, and transmission issues more for earlier years and did Lexus resolve them for later years? I asked my Lexus dealer during my service what it cost for these items, and he said $3-4K. Can anyone share what they paid for the timing chain leak and valley coolant plate leaks? Also, I read the transmission solenoid codes basically means you need to replace the whole transmission, costing around 7-8K. I am hopefully a long way from any major repairs but it is good to know in advance and worth an extended warranty. Thanks
Buying a 2011 GX460 tomorrow with 180k miles lol. New tranny at 150k. My work pays for $2500 in car repair every year so I think I’ll be sitting pretty
The gx is one of the best vehicles lexus/toyota has made. Are there some issues with them of course but the overall quality is superior to many other makes. The Lexus lean is an easy fix with a shorter spring on the driver side. Regular maintenance mitigates many of the issues reported.
You make it sound like it falls apart at 200K miles. I do all the work myself and use premium fuel at all times. Please don't lump us all into the same barrel. In comparison to other luxury SUV's it is much more reliable than any Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Range Rover and others. I appreciate you mentioning the possible problem areas, but that's why you always get a knowledgeable Lexus/Toyota mechanic to give it a good inspection before buying - that is a must, and be prepared to walk away. Thanks for the video!
Would you all recommend a 2014 gx460 luxury with one owner, all maintenance done at Lexus dealership but has 180k miles. I drove it today and it drove fine and has ZERO rust. Please let me know and thanks in advance.
@@autostationfanaticI’m eyeing something similar. Meticulous maintenance. All recommended on time (some early) at a Lexus dealer. Car looks, smells, sounds, and drives like new. I think I’m gonna pull the trigger tbh. Mechanic friends have worked on some with 400k on them. Obv nothing is guaranteed, but mileage isn’t everything.
Beautiful vehicle my friend and massive congrats! Yea I believe this is worth keeping after the lease is up. I personally leased a 4Runner recently, thinking about buying that out as well since these are the last of its kind.
Water intrusion, especially into the passenger side where the ECU is mounted. Toyotas are prone to leak the AC drain and the sunroof drain into the passenger foot well, to be sure, but those are easy to detect and fix. But there's more going on than these little problems. My son's GX460 has had the corroded ECU and associated wiring replaced and the car still needs to be towed after visiting a car wash. I have a 4Runner and I'm off to Home Depot today to buy some Damp Rid to help with the musty situation.
Doing a good inspection by a pro is required to purchase gx460, but I want to put a small comparison of complaints between 2011 gx and 4runner the complaint ratio is 35 for gx and 159 for 4runner, may be because more 4 runners are sold, but gx is also as good as 4runner if not better. I feel gx is a more reliable 4runner.
I had 2015 model. After 7 years and about 50-60K miles it started leaking oil. A dealer quoted 5K repair cost. I didn't want to spend 5K to repair 7 years old car and sold it. Also the frame was rusted after 7 years. Maybe because I live close to the beach.
Please let me know your opinion. I bought a used silver 2017 Lexus GX (Luxury trim) with 36K miles. Car came with Front Runner roof rack and brand new BFG ko2 tires and sports bra on the front end. No rust, no dings or scratches. I have had it since June '23. How much should I have paid?
😅 Well my friend I understand you want to confirm you did not over pay and I understand but it's rather easy to see what the market value is by going to cargurus and searching for yourself. I just did a nationwide search for a 2016-2018 GX with under 40k miles and omitted the accident vehicles, only 15 vehicles fit that parameter. Price ranges between $36k to $40k as long as you didn't pay more than that you're fine and perhaps + $2k for accessories Even if you overpaid it doesn't matter because they're getting rid of the dollar soon so if you like what you bought, just enjoy and relax.
I’ve had minimal problems with my GX’s. I’m on my newer GX460 (2022) I had a CPO 2013 for nearly 200k miles. I had the driveline fluids minus the transmission replaced per schedule (keep this in mind as I’ll bring up more later. 100k plugs 100k transmission service 150k water pump, hoses, radiator, idler pulley, drive belt. Never had the valley plate leak nor the timing cover leak. My transmission was never serviced prior to 100k. The fluid is the Toyota WS fluid and as per lexus it’s a “lifetime” fluid. Performed a trans drain and refill @ 150k @ 195k I started getting trans solenoid codes. Dropped pan, replaced the coded solenoids, and drove to 200k. Same exact codes. Took to Lexus and recommended transmission replacement. Did it myself and a coworker bought the vehicle from me. Find a reputable Toyota/Lexus technician to regularly service your transmission in these vehicles. I’ve got nearly 200k out of mine before it showed it’s head but others have had it @ 100k. Never had the kdss lean on either of my 460s. They’ve been amazing.
I do not know. The important service at the dealership is just below $1,000. Very expensive for me. But once you have accepted that, the rate to fix most of the issues does not seem to be too bad. I guess it is just designed to be an expensive one to keep and fix.
Yeah, the one thing to note is toyota v8 are cheaper than European cars or even some american v8 trucks. But they are not cheap. This is a special warning to those who have only owned corolla or camry, that the v8 toyota cost more for everything like premium gas, parts, etc. If you cant keep up with regular maintenance, your gx/lx/land cruiser will suffer. This means doing the plugs, belts, seals, gaskets, etc.
Thank you love your video very helpful I’m gx460 2018 I too experienced pulling to the right and I had shaken in the front but after the dealer balanced the new tires I bought not from them of course no more shaking any way thank you 👏👏👏
I always love your videos. I bought brand new 2023 gx 460 from a Lexus dealership in Houston and I went in for my first oil change after hitting 5000 miles. The dealership refused to change the engine oil because they stated it can only be done at 10000 miles. Should I take it to a Toyota dealership and pay out of pocket since I don’t want wait till 10000 miles and break the engine.
Massive congrats my friend! Glad you own this SUV and last model year. Yea take it to any reputable shop you like and trust that gives you a receipt after the work is done so you can have official records of you changing oil every 5k miles in case you decide to sell in the future, next owner will love to see that.
Paying cash would be the worst move on this as you would miss out on $3,500 in incentives. Best deal to negotiate is what AC is advertising. 12% off MSRP + $3500 lease incentive. Do a one pay lease for 27 months and buy the car after 27 months in cash this way you’ve taken advantage of all the credits and one pay lease means you’ve paid practically no interest. Use the free leasing calculator that I have in the description box
@@johnandstephanie377 one pay lease is when you make all of your lease payments up front. The only reason you would want to do this is to reduce the interest rate on the lease so you’re wasting less money and building more equity. With some manufacturers or cars, even if you do a one pay lease it might not reduce the interest rate that much so it def doesn’t make sense in every situation. I wish ACs calculator would show updated interest rate for one pays. You can find out more on the leasehackr forum
@@johnandstephanie377definitely look into the full calculations as while you might have discounts by leasing, they might be offset by any interest, which would defeat any purpose. Also cars have the least problems when brand new (when leased). Lot’s of dealerships/banks in Texas have great financing options to offset the lower demand for cars in the past several months, sometimes very low interest rates. But honestly if you could just pay cash today I’ve noticed you can offer what you think it’s worth and walk away confidently knowing you’re only paying one party at one time. No complex math, just understand how much you can afford and you can get more than $3K off if you just pay what you want and get someone who’s willing.
These are potential issues my friend, not everyone has to have these problems and I pray that you will never have these issues because there are many people with high mileage GXs with no issues. These are solid high quality vehicles but I would like to protect those with low income and savings the headache and potential cost of buying a 200k or 300k mile Lexus and deal with these potential problems which can bankrupt those individuals. Thank you so much and God Bless!

While full of information, self editing would make this soooo much better. You ramble and it takes you far too long to get to the actual point of things. Well compiled and useful info. Just could be more brief.
Yea my friend some really good discounts available right now and leasing incentive jumped up from 2k to 3500 which helps. Can save 20k with CPO but new is so much nicer 😅
The two big ticket items are valley plate labor to replace a $100 gasket . A transmission if not serviced replacement from 80k to 120k. Secondary items .. Throw in timing chain gasket and radiator neck plastic leaking . Water pump . Suspension issue .

@@user-rc6kb7no4i it have a 2020 premium package. White. My father has 2015 prado and the gx a much better car. I haven’t gone off-road yet. It more of a highway cruiser for me.
Beat Sonic has a product that will allow wireless or wired car play and android auto.
Got a 23 Premium. Love this beast. Rides like a tank. Zero issue yet. A keeper for me.
Great review, no car is perfect but the GX460 is better than most in terms of reliability. I’m averaging 18 to 20 mpg; compare that to Savage geese getting 21 mpg in the new Lexus RX. As always, try and get the latest year possible within a model run.
Yea GX has to be one of the most solid I have seen in the luxury segment similar to the RC F in the sports car segment. Def quality vehicles!
I have 2019 gx and it averages 13 mpg on local roads. Only when you do a lot of freeway driving the average gets to 16mpg.
My 2018 averages about 16mpg in the city (DFW, TX)
18 to 20 mpg is what I get on the highway with mine but in town it’s 14 MPG and 15 MPG thanks to the all-wheel-drive system. Do I care? No I don’t. I’m rich and I want value and reliability over MPG.
@@MeynMotorGroupno comparison to the RCF. Had a 2015 that was a 💩 after 40k miles. Everything went wrong with that car except the engine and transmission. Glad I unloaded that POS.

Very nice my friend glad you took advantage of one of the newest model years it certainly is a special vehicle
I have owned between my wife and I five Land Rover products, they don’t last and they do not hold their value. I will never own another Land Rover product ever recently bought two Lexus products GX 460, 2012 and my wife has had a 2005 RX 330 absolutely beautiful cars cannot get any better.
Sounds like there are better cars than these Lexus. I will not import these from the states any more…..

Thank you brother I really appreciate your kind words and support! I’m just glad this content can be valuable
Do you mind sharing with us how much you paid for the warranty?
how much was the price?
GX handles a lot better than the LX and has far less body roll (KDSS)
You just made me rethink buying GX. Thanks!

I have 2019 gx bought new. I had front suspension chirping noise issue turned out to be rubber stopper. Rear suspension had screeching noise turned out to be brake cable and bracket problem.
Thanks.
Just get an old 2010, fix the valley plate coolant leak and keep hauling ass!

Glad you enjoyed it!
I haven't said anything my friend...all I did was bring up the resources and regurgitate what it had to say. God Bless.
My in laws loved theirs but hated the mpg. Would have been candidates to upgrade to an LX600 but bought a model X plaid (recent price cut).

Very detailed. Well done!
I have a 23'[black w/red interior] great truck. Thinking of keeping it after the lease.
Awh man I can only imagine how often you have hvac issues do to the beach
Price ranges between $36k to $40k as long as you didn't pay more than that you're fine and perhaps + $2k for accessories
Even if you overpaid it doesn't matter because they're getting rid of the dollar soon so if you like what you bought, just enjoy and relax.
Thank you that helps and yes that type of vehicle was scarce back then too. Ya the dollar is in trouble! Keep stacking my people. Keep stacking
I would confirm that the roof rack mounting points into the roof are properly sealed
Great work on this video. Would have been so easy to make it quick “no issues here, have a great day!” 🤣🤣

I’ve had minimal problems with my GX’s.
I’m on my newer GX460 (2022)
I had a CPO 2013 for nearly 200k miles.
I had the driveline fluids minus the transmission replaced per schedule (keep this in mind as I’ll bring up more later.
100k plugs
100k transmission service
150k water pump, hoses, radiator, idler pulley, drive belt.
Never had the valley plate leak nor the timing cover leak.
My transmission was never serviced prior to 100k. The fluid is the Toyota WS fluid and as per lexus it’s a “lifetime” fluid.
Performed a trans drain and refill @ 150k
@ 195k I started getting trans solenoid codes.
Great video... Thank you
Such a beautiful original home in Annapolis. Let’s pray it doesn’t get ruined by “motorization”..
Have the coolant valley leak flaw currently 😢 2014
I have a 2014 lexus 460 and have these and 2 transmission replacements
Yeah, the one thing to note is toyota v8 are cheaper than European cars or even some american v8 trucks. But they are not cheap. This is a special warning to those who have only owned corolla or camry, that the v8 toyota cost more for everything like premium gas, parts, etc. If you cant keep up with regular maintenance, your gx/lx/land cruiser will suffer. This means doing the plugs, belts, seals, gaskets, etc.
Thank you love your video very helpful I’m gx460 2018 I too experienced pulling to the right and I had shaken in the front but after the dealer balanced the new tires I bought not from them of course no more shaking any way thank you 👏👏👏
That is awesome my friend I’m so glad the dealer was able to fix it, these are such excellent SUVs
4Runners cost about the same. Dealers recognize the potential reliability of Toyotas and are capitalizing on it
I always love your videos.

Hi, if i want to buy cash + new what kind of discounts can i ask for? In texas. Thank you!!
What is the one pay lease? Thanks
@@MeynMotorGroup thanks. Looking here in the Houston area to find a deal on a new gx460. I’ll use the calculator for a good starting point.
