So happy you did this video. I’ve been looking to upgrade from my crappy car play screen that I attached l. Obviously we have all had the same issues as you with no tutorial install video so thanks for making one. Looking forward to your more long term review before I pull the trigger.
Wow game changer and solves for one of my hesitations to purhcase a 2023 GX460. Thank you for filming this, producing documentation, and walking us through your experience. You earned my subscribe!
Hey duckbow. Don't buy an older GX because you believe the aftermarket navi system will replace the 2023 navi unit's overall function and reliability. That will never happen. You're going to spend hours and even days trying to figure out a lot of the functions that the supplier doesn't make clear since there is no owners manual. Everything you do will be trial and error to find different settings. I am still learning every day how to do certain things for example: A maintenance screen popped up that covered the entire screen and wouldn't go away. I spent 3 days trying to figure out how to remove that warning screen. There are hidden screens and settings that you will discover by accident. Thats how i figured out how to reset the entire unit. I'll try to update my video with some findings some time in the future.
Thanks Bob. Great video. I have a 2017 GX460. I then bought a 2020 Tundra with CarPlay. CarPlay makes driving much more enjoyable and safer. Please keep us updated on the new unit performance. It looks awesome in your GX. Peace
Thank you Bob. That is lot of risks installing a aftermarket unit to replace an OEM . The difficulty and the backup camera issue and high price cost will make me keep the factory unit for now . Thank you Bob for all these GX videos

Not sure if i will keep the unit because i have more products to install which will require me to start from OEM. There may be a slight chance i might take a look at the Tesla screen unit in the near future.
I just added this to my 2014 GX using this video and your airbag and reverse camera fix vid. My degree in computer science helped LOL. This thing is nice. You should be an affiliate for this unit. My advice is to skip on the zip ties and just use electrical tape.
great DIY as always Bob! thank you for jumping on this grenade for us! I'm really happy they have updated their design and got rid of the analog clock in the middle when they first started making these
The clock was the reason why i didn't bother buying it and attempt to fix the issues people were complaining about. I didn't want to figure it out and end up looking at a crappy clock in my car.
@@GXBOB bingo! it was too goofy looking and out of place. Hopefully it works out well, I'm going to wait for your long term review before jumping on one.
I'm never going to have to do this to my GX but I love watching your videos. I have used many of your other videos to actually do stuff on mine. Things that otherwise i would have never attempted. You are a great teacher. not just because of the detail but the organized manner in which you explain things. Honestly if someone watches one of your videos and they are even a tiny bit mechanically inclined they can do all the stuff following your instruction. I have a 2022 GX 460 and while it does have apple carplay it does NOT have wireless connect so you have to plug your phone in. Off the bat the unit you installed is better. Hard to tell from a video about the screen quality but it seemed way more responsive than the screen on the 2022. I don't know if the 2023 is better or the same as the 2022 and or if the '23 has wireless connect. Thank you!!!!
@@GXBOBThank you for this excellent video! For the short amount of time you’ve had it, what are your thoughts about its performance? I’m about to pull the trigger on purchasing a unit since my current Nav screen needs a new digitizer but wanted to gauge your satisfaction.
@@mikes2582 so my only concern was the rear camera. But looks like it finally has a fix. I like it a lot but was really disappointed in the rear camera error. I learned something with Chinese vendors-when you have the entire world looking at your products reputation, they scramble to work out their quality issue. In this case, my video caught their attention and they started going to work on a resistor box in line with the canbus unit to fix the rear camera signal. They will send me the fix in the upcoming days. I can’t do anything until my car comes back from the body shop in a week or two. I’m already on my next mod video.
2023 owner. I kinda want an analog clock! The digital one on the bottom of the center console reminds me of my alarm clock from the 90’s. Nice install.
Great video as always and thank you for taking one for the team on the purchase. I have one in the cart just waiting (with bated breath) on the update from your bff at the company.
Do all of the native OEM functions still work? Navigation, climate control, satellite radio, etc? How about general settings and all of that? Maybe do a detailed tutorial on how to walk through all of the features. I'm worried about losing embedded navigation, back up camera view and shit like that.
Update: Navigation, climate control works great. No satellite radio unless you go thru an app. General settings are mostly all there such as doorlock settings, light timers, headlight adjustments, seat memory, steering wheel buttons settings, etc...
Many thanks to you, GXBOB, for making this instruction! Alas, two volume knobs is a deal-breaker for me; also, not a fan of the extra microphone. Looks like i'll just stick with the wireless carplay module and just keep things OEM otherwise. I do applaud Carlinklife for making the effort, as I understand that many people just can't tolerate the OEM screen.
This is awesome!!! Thanks so much for doing this. Im so interested in this system, but there was no way I was going drop 1300 on it without a video like this. Tell the body shop to hurry their ass up so we can get a follow up video :-) Thanks again Bob!!!!!!!!
So far what types of issues have you encountered? When i put a CD in to play burned music, i wasn't able to toggle back to the radio or bluetooth. It was stuck on CD mode. Currently trying to find the aux button to toggle back.
@@GXBOB Only issue that I have is there no AC indicators when I turn knobs but it ol for me. Also I managed to get 16:9 aspect ratio on rear view camera. All I had to do is choose toyota Prius in CAN bus menu. I don't have CD changer no more because it was built into head unit unlike on GX so I cannot say about it. I have 2015 Prado and it's a bit different from GX in terms of multimedia.
First of all, thank you for everything you do for the GX community and for this install video. I do have a couple questions though. 1.) Do the buttons illuminate at night? 2.) Do you have access to all of the factory settings such as the "unlock beep volume" and which doors unlock when you put it in park and all of that stuff? 3.) Does the Voice Assistant as well as ALL of the other steering wheel buttons still work? 4.) I've already seen your replies about installing a 360 camera system so I'll leave out that question and wait till you do a video adding that feature so I won't have to take my dash apart again. Hey, thanks! Not sure if you want overall advice from me because i am happy with the mere basics of this unit. I was looking for aesthetics, sound, climate, and carplay. As long as those work i don't really care about any other bells and whistles. I did answer some of the questions other folks asked such as OEM settings such as doorlocks, beeps, navi, illuminations, etc...I found them all. You just have to play around with the unit and find all these options within all these settings. They are there. The cons i came across were fixable such as ground noise, finding bluetooth, If you go through the comments section you'll find a wealth of knowledge because other people had their own fixes that i've learned from. Hope that helps.

Hi Bob, I'm very happy for your installation, but I have a question - why didn't you pay attention to the Teyes radio? Teyes has by far the best Qled screen and the best sound processor. Greetings from Magadan :)
Are you referring to the Tesla screen? I don't like the fact that the screen is not at eye level and i also wanted my interior to resemble more of the newer year GX's.
Great Video Bob!!!! I might try this if i keep my 2013 but i may buy 2023 so we will see. I do recommend 67 Designs 55 series rails and phone mounts. I have one in my GX. You will have to take your unit out if you want to screw the rail down i just used super adhesive indoor/outdoor 3m tape it works fine. You will be able to get different size arms to move the phone where you want but that will keep it above the screen. They are fully adjustable on 20mm balls.

Hey, thanks for reaching out. I have already played with all the settings and have worked with the supplier to come up with a fix. He sent me a fix that i will be installing soon. Just waiting for my truck to come out of the shop to start on the project, thanks!
Update: I installed the device, everything looks good but I have a few issues. Most important one is I am getting "srs airbag system malfunction" error (code B1660) and passenger airbag red signal remains ON always. Did this happen to you as well Bob? I removed the error code with my scanner but ECU writes it again. I checked socket under the passenger seat but didn't help. Now I don't know what to do 😅
Hey!!! There are no srs system that is associated with your oem radio for you to have to disengage so this is the first I’ve heard of this. My airbags warnings did not light up before, during, or after the install. Might want to check any adjacent wires or connectors that were accidentally dislodged while doing the install.
@@GXBOB Sadly it does for my car, I checked everything 10 times. It turns out to be one of the connector incompatible with my car. Interested to see the long term test results from this and how you tackle the issues that have been presented so far. (Reverse Cam, Celsius temps etc). I would LOVE to have one of these in my GX butI dont really want to deal with those kind of unpolished issues so I've been considering a beat-sonic instead. Either way, Super glad to finally have this thing in the spotlight as I've been eyeballing it for some time now.
Bob, thank you so much for all your videos! You are an excellent teacher. Any chance you’ve done a video on side mirror upgrades? I’m searching for an option to swap out my mirrors for ones with blindspot indicators.
Bob, thanks for the video. That is one of my biggest pet peeves about my 2018 GX that it's a luxury vehicle with ancient tech. I think Lexus should have the latest and greatest tech in their vehicles. Do you know if the unit you bought supports satellite radio? Or can it be added to the unit? I watched the other Tesla screen installs and they seemed lacking in areas. This unit seems to have it all except for the satellite radio. I don't like to listen to local radio with all the commercials.
just what I've been waiting for. I did this year's ago on my BMW 5series. Really looking to decide between the beatsonic and this. Beatsonic having the old screen still there removes some of the issues you have had vs having an all in one large screen that looks and behaves better along with some compromises
Hey Daniel. I agree. It really depends on what your dealbreakers are. I chose to go the large screen look as long as the basic functions that i use every day worked. The Beat-Sonic was a solid choice for me except i got tired of looking at my crappy OEM screen.

Hi Bob, first of all thanks for all the gx related vedios you have helped me out tremendously. I have purchased the new unit and had few questions regarding the installation: 1- Can we utilize the existing microphone instead of installing the one that came with the kit. 2- Could you please tell me where did you placed the GPS and the antenna units, do they need to be exposed or we can hide them inside the dashboard. Also unrelated question, I purchased my gx in 2019 sight unseen because I got a great discount on it and it is the base model. The car did not come with headed and ventilated seats, I was wondering if purchasing an OEM parts and installing them is even possible. Please advise. Respect and thanks in advance.
Hey sorry for the late reply. I was not able to test out this question for you as my truck is in the shop at the moment. The GPS/antenna units are at my passenger A pillar but it doesn't matter if they are exposed or not. The technology doesn't require you to have it exposed. As far at the heated ventilated seats go, i hear people complaining about the strength of the fans coming out of the seats and may not be worth throwing money at it to have it installed.
I understand the OEM volume/power knob. What about the OEM tuning knob? Still tunes the FM? Something else? Sorry if it was in the video and I missed it.
3 issues. 1. External mic!? (You don’t use the oem mic? The cheap external one sounds bad and has no sound isolation) 2. How bad is that glossy screen glair? Is it washed out in normal sunlight? 3. Does the screen have auto brightness? Does it dim at night and does it get brighter in direct sunlight? Bonus question: can all temp indicators be switched to Fahrenheit? This includes outside temp in top left and ac temp readout. Background info: I’ve had two of these types of screens in the past along w/ add on boxes like vline and they all have similar drawbacks (they suck). Just want to know if this unit is actually worth the money. -Thanks
@@ecdubbs Hey thanks for the questions. The answer is no, no, and no. Haven’t tried the mic. I don’t have issues with the glare. I haven’t found any settings to switch to Fahrenheit. I will check auto dim later on today.

@@GXBOB Damn. If you got AC and music working then you must've select right canbus adapter. Maybe connection on backup wire itself is loose. I tightened it rly good with some tape because it was glitching sometimes with black screen and white artifacts.
How has the CarPlay feature been the past month, laggy at all? Also, are you able to get to the vehicle maintenance section that was on the OEM screen (where you can set your oil/filter/rotation mileage)? Personally...climate control, bluetooth (carplay), and that maintenance section are the only items I interact with on my infotainment.
Carplay works fine. It took me some time to figure out how to set up and use bluetooth because every time i got out of the truck and back in, blue tooth seem to disconnect and i would have to "find" it again. With a lot of trial and error i realized the fault was with me. I didn't have the patience for the truck to turn on and bluetooth to connect which took a mere 15 seconds. The more i hit the bluetooth connect button the more bluetooth turned off and turned back on. I had no idea, but now i do. On my Honda Civic, blue tooth was immediate so i was used to that. Climate control works as it should without a flaw. Just keep in mind that i have base model without the middle row AC control unit at my center armrest so i'm not able to test that but i'm able to control rear AC with the new Navi unit. There's a lot of bells and whistles people want that came with the OEM unit, but those weren't deal breakers for me. I was not able to find the oem maintenance screen. Question to Bob why you didn’t buy the $439.99 infotainment from Carlinklife vs this one you have for $1299.99. The $439.99 retains the factory OEM look vs the $1299.99. Why made you go this route?
We can go back to the OEM look by getting rid of my front grill, roof rails, headlights, side mirrors, window visors, tail lights, all my lightbulbs, etc...So the real question is why would you want to keep the OEM look? We progress to be better not be idle with the same thing everyone else has. We custom our vehicles to our liking because its our personal taste. The price is not the issue. The OEM look is the issue. Thank God there are manufacturers out there that produce products that make our truck less boring and more newer and more exciting. But if i were to make price an issue and didn't mind the OEM look, then i would have bought the Carplay from Beat-Sonic. Its more proven and has been around for a lot longer with reputable feedback.
Looks nice. U removed the mark Levinson quality sound however if u had that option initially. Not sure if 1300 is worth it. We all use our phones for everything and thats not going to change for a while.

Can this be a fix for those with the issue of the system randomly resetting, blacking out or not booting up at all? After doing a lot of research, some say it’s an issue with the logic board inside the lower unit which I assume controls the entire system, the bottom unit and top unit that you are replacing. Can ANYONE shed some light on this issue. Only fixes known are buying a used logic board ($600), sending it in for repair (around $900-$1000) or buying a whole new unit ($2500+) or just sit in silence. If this can bypass that issue, I will definitely buy it. Seeing that the mode feasible option would be to buy a used logic board, I feel that it still leaves the possibility up in the air for the issue to happen all over again.

Crazy Bob always giving mind blowing upgrades to the GX community.
Thanks Bob. Great video. I have a 2017 GX460. I then bought a 2020 Tundra with CarPlay. CarPlay makes driving much more enjoyable and safer. Please keep us updated on the new unit performance. It looks awesome in your GX. Peace

Hard to tell from a video about the screen quality but it seemed way more responsive than the screen on the 2022. 2- Could you please tell me where did you placed the GPS and the antenna units, do they need to be exposed or we can hide them inside the dashboard.
Also unrelated question, I purchased my gx in 2019 sight unseen because I got a great discount on it and it is the base model. The car did not come with headed and ventilated seats, I was wondering if purchasing an OEM parts and installing them is even possible. Please advise.

Hey sorry for the late reply. I was not able to test out this question for you as my truck is in the shop at the moment. The GPS/antenna units are at my passenger A pillar but it doesn't matter if they are exposed or not. The technology doesn't require you to have it exposed.
@@GXBOB lmao 🤣, actually I typed my comment straight after watching the video, didn’t realise there were a plethora of comments asking about the same issue as me. No matter, all the best, we all await your next video ♥️
Hey Bob, I ended up putting a half inch ball and cellphone holder on the bottom bolt of the ohshit handle on drivers piller.
@@Loren460 I’ve seen that but it would require me to retrain my brain to use my left hand.
@@GXBOB I have, I call it the stranger.
Any feedback of how this thing performs?
@@vladlozo1111 Just when I thought I had it all figured out, I’m puzzled at how to switch my oem CD player back to the new unit since there are no aux buttons to push. I’m left stuck on oem CD player mode and can’t use my Bluetooth to play music from my cellphone. Still working out this issue as of Oct 24.
Bob thanks for the video, question are you still able to use your volume control and phone control buttons from the steering wheel with this new system?
Yes, the volume button and phone control button works fine. One thing is the volume button is default. The phone button needs to be set. There is an option screen for you to set each command for each button on the steering wheel through the navi option settings. I didn't bother because i don't use the steering wheel phone button. Never had in all my years of owning the vehicle. I tend to have girlfriends call while my wife is in the car with me and thats never a good thing. I'll keep all my phone incoming and outgoing calls using my personal cellphone detached from bluetooth.
@@GXBOB thank you.
And the backup camera works fine correct?
It's a good looking system, do you like it better than the Beat Sonics.
@@wea0323 Comparing this with Beat-Sonic is like comparing apples to oranges. Beat-Sonic is a CarPlay add on. This 12.3 screen is an upgrade to your oem head unit to resemble a 2023 GX460.
@@GXBOB Good point thank you.
@@wea0323 and yes the tenders camera works with the new fix the vendor will provide for free
Fantastic tutorial Bob, many thanks. Question. Does Sirius work on this unit? Didn't see you tune to Satellite Radio.
@@JuanGMartinez I had no idea I had that option.
@@GXBOB When you can, could you check? I sent email to Carlinklife, but no response yet. Thanks Bob

@@GXBOB Many thanks Bob, that means the unit doesn't have the capability, it has to be done through Cel Phone. That consumes a lot of Data though. But at least now we know. Much obliged for the follow up
Hi, Do you have any update with OEM reverse camera
Interested but not sure of its long term reliability. I also live in Vegas so it gets super 🔥. Do buttons illuminate at night?
I’m in Vegas too and just got this. Yes, the buttons illuminate.
Nice one Bob. How about the volume on the sterring wheel? Does it work?
@@pinoyelectriciansbayarea1608 yes it does. 👍
@@GXBOB last one reverse camera?
@@pinoyelectriciansbayarea1608 yes they are sending me a fix
Last Q How about the parking sensor when you park?
The product webpage states the following “Support factory rear view camera reverse trajector, 360 camera, door open warning.” And I know you mentioned you weren’t able to get it to work. I assume you asked them right? What’s was their explanation?
@@mroytshteyn7079 go to reverse settings and choose NTSB. They want to face time with me to walk me through the problem. They already showed me how to do auto dim and the switch to Fahrenheit. Hello GX BoB from some where unknown in Canada 😅 (joking)
I can't tell how much bad I was feeling about my GX infotainment system before watching this video (I almost ended up buying beat-sonic after market adapters but so happy now that I wait)
Just ordered 8G one right away (I'd recommend 8G to whom where asking in comments for sure)
Thanks a lot GX BoB for teaching this for most stupid of us 😅😂
Question to Bob why you didn’t buy the $439.99 infotainment from Carlinklife vs this one you have for $1299.99.
@@GXTOLX My GX is a base model. I chose a bare bone trim in order to have a platform to install aftermarket components.
This is one of my concerns. I'm not sure the ML is removed by doing this. The main head unit and the ML amp are still in the chain.
@@vincentdemarco6374 oh thanks. Good to know. By the way, the sound quality hasn’t changed since the new install.
Looking forward to feedback on this after a couple months.
Feedback will come sooner than you think. After stumbling onto my video, Carlinklife manager actually gave me his personal number to figure out what I’m doing wrong, to set auto dim, and other unanswered questions.
Do you think the Nav screen is worth the price ?
i will be doing an update fairly soon. I have mixed feelings for sure.
Hey man! Can you please do a video on headlight adjustment for a 2011 GX?
@@jackguzman7076 I already did.
@@GXBOBI’ll look. Thanks!
Also where can I get a kit is this for the upgrade?
Nice!! Now if you can only add a heated steering wheel 😊
i looked into that awhile back ago and that would be an expensive trial to take on since those steering wheels are non returnable if the test fails.
@GXBOB oh wow, I figured someone came out a Bluetooth heated steering wheel 😅
Will you do a follow up video in 30/60/90 days for updates?
@@lostinhighONER maybe sooner. Truck is currently in the body shop for the next mod.
Thank you! I am really wanting to see if you have had any issues as my wife wants one of these!
Great job👏👏
There seems to be many of these on AliExpress for around 800 to 1000, what do you think, not worth the headache, or is just the same unit for cheaper?
@@TravisChristopher I honestly don’t have an answer
@@SNR_lx or just buy a used oem unit from a used vehicle that doesn’t have that problem. My navi never encountered that problem. There are sellers parting out their vehicles that offer warranty’s.
Any eta for the follow up video?
Thanks for the product link, Bob. Would happen to still have your set of the new front light for me to purchase since you got a new set?
@@namle1753 front light? I’m not selling my front t light

will you be doing installation for anyone who is requesting for your services?
I've been asked this many many times and thought about it. Problem is...i do this for enjoyment. I also do this at random times of the day with 10 coffee breaks in between to run other errands. Once i start doing it as a job, then i'm obligated to finish the job from start to finish. I just have too many things going on right now that i can't commit to doing mobile or home installations. Thanks for asking.
