  • Doing a straight forward oil change utilizing my Fumoto Oil Drain Valve and the new Lexus Oil Funnel. Two must-have accessories to make for a quick and easy oil change. The correct oil filter element part number is 04152-YZZA3...NOT the one stated in the video. But please use the 04152-YZZA3 filter when doing your oil changes.

    This is a great and informative vid. I used it to change the oil and filter on my 2016 for the first time. Here are my suggestions. Make sure the oil filter tool is well seated on there. Get a small hammer and tap around to make sure it is on evenly, and completely. I didn't do that on mine the first time. I think king kong had torqued it on there last. I was putting all my weight into it with a big 1/2" drive ratchet when the tool slipped off the oil filter housing and hit my mouth a pretty good lick. Busted my lip. I hope I don't loose a tooth. Be careful guys. Beware of what will happen if it slips off. Actually, the breaker bar is a better tool until you can keep one hand on the removal tool, and the other turning the rachet or bar. Thanks Bob!

    The only negative for the Fumoto Oil Drain Valve is that if you ever go to a dealership or somewhere else to have your oil changed, most likely they will steal the valve and put a plug back in. I confronted a dealership in AZ and they talked to the oil change guy who just threw up his hands and said "I don't know anything about a valve" Needless to say I'm not going back there but it is a real risk when you don't do your own changes.

    Nice writeup. Been using Fumoto for all of my vehicles including my GX. Had a Tundra and if you are familiar with that oil change... let's just say the Fumoto is nearly required else you have a geyser shooting into the passenger wheel. You can also switch out that plastic filter housing for the Lexus metal canister. Did that on all my 4runners. The one time I had my 4runner inspected they gave me a "free" oil changer (unknowingly I had Amsoil and just recently changed it). They cross threaded the plastic canister. Metal canister goes on much easier than the plastic one.

      Hey Bowhun2r! Thanks for the comment. I used to have the aluminum housing on all my previous GX. I actually have one installation video in my library. This one hasn't had one yet because its been holding up quite well and i find the center drain hole a redundant step i don't need to perform. My oil changes are at 5k rather than 10k. The one in the video was done at 2.5k. But i may switch it out to aluminum on my next change up. The Fumoto is a godsend!

    • @GXBOB
      @GXBOB  3 года назад +7

      That's like saying.."Why buy a power drill when you can use a screwdriver?". The valve minimizes the processes involved which translates to a cleaner drain. One lever to open and close, done. Normally you would have to unscrew the bolt and hope it doesn't fall into your drain pan, then you have to replace the crush washer each and every time, then you have to screw back your bolt and torque it to oem specs.

      Doesn’t matter. I normally changed my filter first because the load will be lighter in my oil drain pan when I move it under my oil drain bolt. Less oil sloshing around. The only excess oil that comes out of your oil filter is just what’s left from the anti drain back mechanism. Just make sure you check your oil level after and top off as necessary.

I have a 7" x 1" pipe. If the pipes they sell are too long, you can take it home and cut it to size. You can even keep a long one for when you torque your wheel lug nuts and keep a short one when you work underneath your car.

    Hey Bob silly question but I have a ton of parts coming and am going to pump the GX on to 4 jack stands next week. For the front can I jack in the middle of the cross member to jack up both front wheels at the same time? For the rear can I pump up using the rear diff? Or is it safer to just pump up one corner at a time?

    • @GXBOB
      @GXBOB  2 года назад +1

      Not a silly question at all, Yes you can jack up the front cross member and the rear differential. I do that sometimes to depending on what type of work i'm doing underneath. My issue is, i work on an inclined driveway so its more difficult for me to jack up the center and not have the vehicle teeter to one side. If you're on a flat ground, then by all means, jack up the center to left up both jacking points. Make sure you support with jackstands when done.

    Hi Bob, great video. Question on the Fumoto valve: is the length of the valve nipple short enough not to protrude past the inside of the oil pan allowing all the oil to be drained and no residue is left ? Should I get the short nipple version ? Thanks.

    • @GXBOB
      @GXBOB  3 года назад +1

      Hey Cory, you have to also account for the thickness of the oil pan when making that accessement. On top of that, you'll never get all the oil out, whatever drips you're getting at the end of the fumoto oil change is merely that, small amount of excess that 99% of the new oil will compensate for. I wouldn't think too much on the matter as long as you do regular oil changes with full synthetic, you'll be fine.

    • @JasonBentz
      @JasonBentz 3 года назад +3

      The nipple you’re referring to is on the outside of the valve, has nothing to do with the threads that go into the oil pan. They typically sell a non-nipple version, a short and a long. The short is designed to use a plastic adapter that then attaches to a hose for quick on/off, the long is designed to hook a hose directly up to it. Personally, since there is a skid plate and access hatch to get to the pan bolt, and no way to really get to the Fumoto valve lever without removing the access panel, I’d get either the non-nipple or short nipple version and not bother with the hose, since you can place the drain pan straight under it anyway.

      @@JasonBentz @GX*BOB Thanks guys for the replies. Maybe I did not make the question clear enough, I was referring to the length of the threaded nipple of the Fumoto valve that threads into the oil pan. When Bob installed the Fumoto valve in the September 2020 video, I can see the threaded length on the nipple when inserted into the Fumoto valve is shorter than the threaded length on the drain bolt, so that answered my question.

    • @JasonBentz
      @JasonBentz 3 года назад

      @@coryhoang3736 ah, gotcha! Yeah, I think the intent is that the threads aren’t quite as long as the drain bolt because obviously when draining via the drain bolt, it is not in place, where with the Fumoto valve, the threads remain while draining. I would say they probably do stick up slightly into the oil pan, but not enough to cause that much concern. Like he said, as long as you’re changing your oil regularly, it shouldn’t be an issue. I’ve used these in two vehicles for about 14 years each and never had a single issue with them. One was a Tacoma and the other was a TSX.
